there. there's a couple low spots. >> this view from sky 7 is truly the only way to show how widespread flood something in guerneville. water was up to the roofs of some homes. there was flooding in the safeway parking lot and a few kayakers were navigating the streets there too. this fire crew decided it was too risky to launch their zodiac. kim and her boyfriend decided not to evacuate. for now, their home is safe. >> still isolating. we really are trapped. >> as the russian river crests, officials warn residents to stay in their homes. >> stay put. don't try to leave at this point because the roads are pretty much closed. the river is still rising even as we speak. >> many who live on the river say they know the risks. but many can't remember seeing flooding like this. >> it's exciting but scary. we'll see how much damage it will cause a lot of people. >> no telling what the damage estimate may be.

the county officials say it may be another 24 hours before floodwaters recede and roads are drivable once again. in sonoma county, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. many schools in sonoma county are closed again today because of flooding. >> as of last night, 13 school districts and charter schools have canceled classes. you see the list on your screen. the sonoma county office of education says any additional closures will be announced at 6:00 this morning. you can also find the latest closures on the ticker on the bottom of the screen and on abc7news.com. the napa river also flooded. sky 7 shows water surrounding two homes near silverado trail and oak knoll avenue. the same small lake is covering nearby vineyards and creeping on to the roads. >> in marin county, part of westbound highway 37 will remain closed until at least this morning. abc 7 was in novato while cal trans crews pumped water from the roadway. westbound drivers have to exit highway 37 at atherton avenue.

morning. that's urban and small stream flooding. as far as napa, it crested last night at 8:45. it rapidly dropped back below. we don't have to worry about any more napa river flooding. >> alexis? >> mike, we have another serious collision, just got fatality confirmed for a second crash this morning in the east bay. this one is right around the oakland zoo. eastbound 580 near 98th avenue. sounds like a jeep went off the roadway, crashed into bushes, caught fire and they're call for a coroner to the scene now. just the right shoulder, i believe, is blocked. i'm not seeing any backup through the area. i will keep an eye on that. we're pretty quiet at the moment. starting to fill in through the central valley. 33 minutes on 580, trace toy dublin. 15 minutes dublin to mission boulevard. northbound 85, 101 to cupertino, should take about 16 minutes.

little weary. but we're ready to go as long as it ta the district's offer rema 8.5% raise over four years, the teachers want 12%. in san lorenzo, matt keller, abc 7 news. okay. thank you, matt. let's take a look at what's going on with your weather. we'll start with temperatures around san francisco. hovering around 48 to 52 degrees. so a little bit cooler than yesterday. you can see temperatures elsewhere are a little bit more on the cool side compared to yesterday, especially in the north bay. 40 in healdsburg. 42 in petaluma. the rest of us 47 to 50 degrees. these are anywhere from 3 to 12 degrees cooler. you need a heavier coat this morning. look how dry it is on the bay bridge as we look at the western span from south bay. we have damp spots out there. there's a few lingering light showers and drizzle through the morning commute. that's about it for today.

cooler all day if you're taking mass transit. just that random rain on the bay if you're taking a ferry. here's a look at the camera on the embarcadero. mid to upper 40s by noon. a little bit of sunshine today. 52 to 54. 53 to 56 at 4:00. at 7:00, 50 to 52 degrees. but it will be dry. the east bay valleys, 47 today at 8:00. you can see around the upper 50s from 2:00 to 4:00. heading into the north bay, we'll stay in the 40s through 10:00. we'll return to the 40s at 6:00 this evening. low to mid-50s in between. for san francisco, 49 this morning. we'll warm up to 54. so it's not going to be nearly as mild, nor as muggy as it was yesterday. that's why we're going to be significantly drier. turn it over to alexis and sad news early this morning. >> we've got a couple of serious collisions here today. so two fatal crashes. one in emeryville has cleared. that was westbound 80 past the

closures due to flooding in novato. however, things have improved a bit over the last 24 hours. westbound 37 is still closed from atherton to 101. they were able to reopen the eastbound side of the roadway and according to chp, they said yeah, there's still a lot of water there. we showed you video from sky 7 a few minutes ago. no telling on when the lanes will reopen. as soon as we get official word, we'll pass that along to you. walnut creek to dublin in the green at 14 minutes. well under an hour southbound 101 santa rosa to san francisco and looking good for the santa cruz mountains. northbound 17 highway 1 to los gatos. should take about 24 minutes. the group considered by some as the most influential latin rock band is coming to san francisco area. >> but first they made a stop on jimmy kimmel live ♪>> ty' s goo. mana performed on jimmy kimmel

here we are at 7:00. all is quiet but pretty gray out there. as we head towards midnight, the next system comes from the south. light to moderate rain. it's going to rain during overnight hours up until 8:00 in the the morning. then it becomes less intense and starts to move off during the evening hours saturday. it's a pretty quick hitter. that storm is. there's another one behind it for sunday. i wanted to focus on this one u

since this is coming from the south, you'll get more this time. fingers crossed that maybe you'll get up to an inch and won't cause flooding and only a third to half an inch in the north bay, which should if we stay at these levels, not aggravate the flooding situation. >> more on the commute from alexis. >> we have a serious situation in the east bay. right now on eastbound 580, this is before 98th avenue. we've got a fatal collision, just one vehicle involved. but it is a sig-alert. so an investigation is under way. the two right lanes are blocked. not sure how long that will be the case. these tend to take several hours. not much of a backup. as we get further into the morning, i'll keep updating you on that situation. >> richmond side of the richmond-san rafael bridge, we're finally dry. a stray puddle or two left here. very light volumes as you can see. no significant issues across the rest of bay. federal investigators have released a preliminary report about this gas line explosion in

san francisco. it confirms some of what we already knew. a third party contractor working on a telecommunications project damaged a pg&e natural gas line. in this new pg&e photo of the gas main, you can see a gaping hole. the report explains how pg&e turned off the gas. but it makes no assessment if it was done fast enough. investigators say that will happen in the next step of the investigation. new this morning, the milpitas library is back open after it was treated for bedbugs. the library closed unexpectedly friday when they reported a bedbug victim. an inspection had evidence of bedbug activity but not an infestati infestation. the library has now been treated. the warriors back in action tonight looking to rebound from hosted three marjorie stoneman douglas students. it was highlighted by steph

it's thursday, february 28th. 4:59 a.m. never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. >> mike nicco continues to look at the russian river and napa river. exactly. there is no rain up there. in the east, foothills and also in the santa cruz mountains and that's where it's been all night. there's been a few scattered showers elsewhere. nothing to aggravate this situation. we still have a flood warning for the russian river until at least saturday evening the way it goes right now. let me give you the latest i've put together. 45.11 inches. major flooding now. major flooding until noon today. and then we'll drop down to moderate flooding at 1:00. minor flooding at 7:00 and then no more flooding after midnight tonight. now, for the napa river, we're doing great. we crested yesterday evening at 26.45. we're going to keep falling all the way down to near flooding at 4:45 or we did last night. there's no flooding at all. there's still
