it's thursday, february 28th. 4:59 a.m. never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. >> mike nicco continues to look at the russian river and napa river. exactly. there is no rain up there. in the east, foothills and also in the santa cruz mountains and that's where it's been all night. there's been a few scattered showers elsewhere. nothing to aggravate this situation. we still have a flood warning for the russian river until at least saturday evening the way it goes right now. let me give you the latest i've put together. 45.11 inches. major flooding now. major flooding until noon today. and then we'll drop down to moderate flooding at 1:00. minor flooding at 7:00 and then no more flooding after midnight tonight. now, for the napa river, we're doing great. we crested yesterday evening at 26.45. we're going to keep falling all the way down to near flooding at 4:45 or we did last night. there's no flooding at all. there's still creeks and urban

areas flooding in sonoma county until about 7:45 and solano county until 11:15 this evening. we have rain for the weekend and a potential atmospheric river for next week. we'll talk about that coming up in the next half hour. first want to bring in alexis to talk about the morning commute. >> we've had a lot happening already today. we've got a couple serious issues to talk about. the first one, we had a triple fatality overnight in the berkeley curve. it was westbound 80 past the 580 split. seeing backup filled in here. that's our typical delay. we have been clear for 30 minutes now. that investigation is complete. they got that done before we went on the air at 4:30 this morning. i am start to go see a backup for a second major issue ts morning.0,roth other fatal th two are blocked thatinvestigation. emergency crews are there. so yeah, a couple of very serious issues on the roads already today. westbound 580, tracy to dublin

in the yellow. no delays for westbound 4, antioch to concord. >> alexis, thank you. in sonoma county, the russian river should start receding soon. the amount of damage done is hard to cover him. >> at least 2,000 homes and other buildings are flooded. thousands of people are unable to get to their towns. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in forestville for us this morning. amy? >> reporter: good morning, squl jessica. consider this one the farmhouse. they had to evacuate their guests and one guest as they tried to leave. got their rental car stuck in the driveway and had to leave it because it's too deep to tow. the inn is empty. they're losing business. this is eight miles outside of guerneville. that town is completely flooded. the view from sky 7 shows how the streets are just full of water there. an estimated 2,000 homes and buildings have flooded in the

area. there is no way in or out of guerneville except by boat. it is surrounded by water. for those who did not evacuate, officials say it's too late now. >> stay put. don't try to leave at this point. because the roads are pretty much closed. the river is still rising even as we speak. >> reporter: and those who did evacuate are not being allowed back in. in some places the water is 8 feet deep. the river has crested. it will now start receding. it isn't expected to settle back into its banks until late tonight and then officials can start talking about the cleanup and recovery. reporting live in forestville, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you, amy. the nearby town of mont a rio is an island also. all roads leading in and out are under floodwaters. wayne freedman talked to residents whose only mode of

see how much that water has impacted the town. and now the entire town covered in water. you can see more of the view of the flooding on abc7news.com and on the app. customize the forecast to get information where you live and get breaking news as it happens. namly and friends will honor a danville businessman tonight. 76-year-old john moore was shot and killed on sunday. yesterday, sheriff deputies in illinois found the body of the man suspected in the murder. investigators tell abc 7 news mark sippen shot himself in the head when he saw deputies outside his parents' house. the victim's family received the news they've been waiting to hear. >> it was thank gods. >> i'm happy he's no longer walking the earth and stalking anybody else. >> john moore's family said they had a hostile past with sippen.

the family had a restraining order against him. a candlelight vigil for moore will be held at the crow canyon medical center at 6:00 tonight. it was a passionate crowd gathering to remember long-time san francisco public defender jeff adachi. while there are questions about his death, his friends, family and colleagues focus on his pursuit of justice last night. mario woods mother spoke to adachi's widow who watched with tears in her eyes. a civil trial is set in a case later this year. >> there's not going to be another one like your husband to speak for the voiceless. black, brown and poor communities. black, brown, men and women. >> adachi died friday evening after a medical emergency. a public memorial is set for monday. never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. we have flooding on some creeks. mark west, green valley, laguna

de santa rosa, santa rosa creek and clear lake. all of them are starting to recede and should be finished flooding by noon today. temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. 51 in concord. the warm spot. also that in oakland and hayward warmer at 52. mountain view at 50. 39 at santa rosa. everybody else in the mid to upper 40s. here's a look from tam. it's definitely cleaner and drier this morning. there's a few sprinkles out there. they won't pass the morning commute. we'll say things are getting better whether you're out and about, exercising. there will be times when you need the sunglasses. the sun tries to breakthrough the clouds from time to time. that will help push us in the 50s. not quite as muggy nor as mild as yesterday. low 50s by 7:00. here's a look at the east bay where we have 50 at 8:00. 57 at 4:00. down to 52. so kien of a narrow range today because of the cloud cover.

direction. westbound 37 closed in novato between atherton and 101 due to flooding. no estimate on when it reopens much the eastbound side of the roadway reopened that water. really subsided there yesterday. >> the bay bridge toll plaza getting busy here. no word on metering lights. alexis, thank you. snowy, stormy conditions causing problems in the sierra. i-80 remains closed between colfax and the state line. cal trans sent out this video showing a better look at the conditions in a less-plowed area. i-80 has been closed more than a day because of the heavy snow. the frequent flyer program that was just ranked number one. also, a scooter ban at a local university. why campus police say they had to take action. is it love or something else? lady gaga addresses romance rumors following the oscars performance. a live look outside at

first look. this morning, the dramatic dive. the last seconds of the wide body 767 that fell out of the sky near houston. this video captured by a school security camera, just a few of the final seconds of the the amazon flight. it slammed into trinity bay, demolished, small pieces of debris left. the ntsb has a longer clearer video from the county jail which the chairman of the investigative board has seen. >> it goes down and then you just see this mud rising up. so you know what's happened there. that's devastating. >> while the videos offer clues, more will be needed to determine why. the critical black boxes may be buried in the bay's mud which could mask their transmitting beacons. investigators will dredge the bay if necessary to get the search at 7:00 a.m. with your gma first look, i'm kenneth moton, abc news, new york. san jose state is banning

electric scooters even a lot of students think they're a good way to get around. more than 140 lime and bird scooters were confiscated. they took action after receiving more than 100 scooter-related complaints, including from students crashing into each other. the university says students can use e-scotters to get to campus. then they have to be parked in a designated zone. bay area is a great place to be a foodie. more than two dozen local restaurants are nominated for this year's james beard strunt and chef awards. the semi finalists were announced yesterday. abc 7 spoke with some of the nominees who feel honored. >> this is a little organization called james beard. i guess nominated for us for otstanding baker. >> nice news to get this morning. i was a little crabby. my hair wasn't coming out how i wanted. then i got a text from a friend. that was nice, she got to deliver the good news. >> finalists will be announced next month and the winners will

sunshine and temperatures around 55 to 59 degrees. we're below average once again. here you can see the clouds are thinner. that's the gray or the lack thereof across the north bay at 7:00. it tries to push into all of the bay by noon and then more high clouds come in. we'll have diffused sunshine during the afternoon hours. you will need the sunglasses. towards the overnight hours, it becomes cloudy again except for across parts of the north bay where you'll be cooler tonight. ukiah, napa, the rest of the inland valleys, low to mid-40s and pretty much the same around the bay and towards the coast. >> during the day tomorrow, it's going to be dry. if you're one of those that stays out late fridays, we head towards midnight. the rain rolls in overnight through saturday. wet and breezy. lingering showers sunday. those are all 1s, light. mostly cloudy monday and then a 2, moderate and a 1, light for tuesday and wednesday. alexis.

>> major issues this morning. fatal crash an investigation under way on eastbound 580 and oakland. this is around 98th avenue. a sig-alert is in place. the two right lanes are blocked and still a backup approaching that scene as well. since it is counter commute direction, i was thinking it would thin out once they stopped with the traffic breaks. it's adding about ten minutes to your commute right now. you can use surface streets to get around it. walnut creek, southbound 680. looking at dry traffic cameras. certainly a nice change from the last couple of days. things are starting to fill in. our drive times, overall looking good this morning. westbound 80, highway 4 to the maze. 16 minutes. 11 across the bay bridge and southbound 101, san francisco to sfo in the green at nine minutes. southwest will start flying to hawaii soon. the faa just gave the approval. southwest will begin with flights from oakland, san jose,

caused the crash. number 4, another serious collision. a fatality investigation under way in oakland right now. eastbound 580 around 98th avenue. sig-alert in place. the two right lanes blocked. has it down to 25 miles an hour. >> number 5, president trump and north korean's kim jong-un completed a second summit in an apparent stalemate. they walked away over the insistence that they should shod president trump's former attorney michael cohen will be back on capitol hill for a third and final hearing. yesterday cohen testified that he's aware of another illegal act by the president. trump criticized cohen's testimony and accused him of quote, lying a lot. a lot of you dog owners understand this. new research shows that dogs have personalities that are gradually shaped for better or worse, by how their owners treat them. we'll have more details in that

how it's not raining up there. it's not raining in many areas this morning. we have the flooding on the russian river. that could hang around at least this morning until 8:33 saturday. i've got a time frame that's faster from the river forecast center. we're at major flooding right now. 45.11. we'll stay in major flooding through noon and then above flood stage until midnight tonight. after that, we start to drop below flood stage. here's a look at the napa river. we crested last evening with moderate or should say yesterday morning but now we're down to 15.8. we've dropped nearly ten feet since we crested. we still have flooding on creeks and streams. you can see there in sonoma county. that's why we have the flood warning in effect until about 7:45 this morning. fingers crossed because everything is decreasing in height on our creeks and streams xtde like it had been.

rig. four people were in that ford escape. three of them died. the driver was taken to the hospital and he is in critical condition. police are investigating the cause of the crash. they do not think that weather was a factor. right now, we're looking at that flooding disaster in sonoma county. >> the russian river is expected to start receding soon. but right now thousands of people are out of their homes. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in forestville with a look at what it's like this morning. amy? >> reporter: hi, jessica. this business is flooded. its driveway is. this is a farmhouse. one of the guests here got their rental car stuck in the driveway. the farmhouse inn is not doing any business. this is eight miles outside of guerneville. that is the town most hard hit fom the russian river. look at the view from sky 7. the streets are underwater. you can't get in or out. cornell barnard spoke with one

resident by facetime who is trapped. >> it's scary. >> were you told to evacuate? >> well, they said everybody on the russian river. but this house we live in has never flooded before. we knew that the floods only last a couple of days at most before it recedes. so we just -- we didn't evacuate along with a lot of other people. >> >> reporter: the river has crested. it should now start receding. expected to return to its banks by late tonight. that's when residents really start assessing the damage and trying to recover from this flood the worst here in 25 years. live in forestville, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank you. many schools in sonoma county are closed again today because of flooding and stornl-related issues. >> 13 school districts and charter schools canceled classes.

sick-out today. pnntt rly in oa. organizers say this action is a response to a call for a mass movement of solidarity from the rank and file members of the oakland education association. teachers and students from berkeley, san francisco, albany and san lorenzo are planning. this comes after a marathon bargaining session on tuesday. >> we're hoping to come to an agreement. this has gone on certainly longer than most people hoped it would. a lot of families and students want to get back to class. >> i can say that we are still really excited for the cause. but some of us are feeling a little weary. but we're ready to go as long as it takes. >> reporter: the district's offer remains at 8.5% raise over four years. the teachers want 12% over three years. this is day six of the strike. reporting live, matt keller, abc 7 news.

the weather looks like with mike nicco. >> updating the russian river. it is falling. look at this. down to 44.61. it's not falling a lot. but at least it's not trending the way it was yesterday when it was rising nearly a foot an hour. it is cooler up in the bay. look at the 30s. clear lake. calistoga, rohnert park and sebastop sebastopol. until american canyon and vallejo, 47 and 48. temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s in the bay shore and to the south bay. upper 40s in the east bay valleys. it's cooler this morning. up to 12 degrees cooler in some neighborhoods. here's a look at a dry 101 looking south from san rafael. the roads, there's a few damp spots sillowers. ssns lg cooler than yesterday. just a random shower this morning. for most part, dry and pretty calm. here's a look from sutro tower. it's not bouncing around like
