good morning, bay area, let's get up and get going. >> this is "abc7 mornings." >> it is sunday, march 3rd. thank you nor being puss. i'm chris nguyen. let's look at the forecast and lisa argen is tracking live doppler 7 for us. >> hi, everyone. waking up to basically dry conditions, but we have a one on our storm impact scale because scattered showers will be with us throughout the day today. they will be light and we will see them taper throughout the afternoon. less than 0.2 is expected. and as we look at live doppler 7 right now, you can see that we are mostly cloudy. not reporting any rain, but that will change. perhaps a few showers as we get into the morning hours, but the visibility has been reduced to just a mile in livermore, two

miles half moon bay, and four miles in concord, about a mile up in santa rosa. temperatures are in the 50s due to the cloud cover. we're slightly warmer this morning, anywhere from one to about six degrees warmer across the bay. so, today just a few areas of some light rain. tomorrow we don't have a number on our storm impact scale. that changes on tuesday as we look at our next incoming system to bring us perhaps some periods of heavy rain on wednesday although the focus of that system is focusing to the south along the coast. today coming up with a few showers throughout the afternoon and then we'll look for the sun setting after 6:00 and a dry evening tonight. chris? >> lisa, thank you. happening today, oakland teachers are set to vote on a tentative agreement that would end their seven-day strike. many of these educators aren't just talking about the agreement, but also about an altercation that took place on friday where a board member put her hand on the throat of a teacher. abc7 news reporter luz pena has the story.

>> reporter: tensions were high outside of this elementary schoolnnn oakland school board member arrived. >> we had locked arms and we had gathered around to prevent her from coming in as we were instructed, and after that, it got intense very fast. >> reporter: in this video, board member jumoke hodge is seen grabbing a teacher's neck. that teacher is dernisha wright. >> first i thought it was just someone in the crowd that was just touching me, probably accidentally, because there was a lot of pushing and shoving. it was a great big rush. and then it just went on for a long time and got tight to the point that it was, you know, painful and restrictive. >> reporter: in a statement to abc7 news, the board member explained that she had been pushed by protesters. "i would never have intentionally touched another person or a sister in that way. and i regret any harm that i might have caused her. i am deeply troubled by this."

these educators want this incident behind them and are looking forward to the ratification vote on the proposal. >> this tentative agreement we are voting on tomorrow, a lot of people are not happy with it. they want to see more school nurses or better ratios of nurses to students, they want more restorative justice programs not cut. >> reporter: a tentative agreement includes an 11% salary increase over four years with a one-time 3% bonus, a decrease on class sizes and a cap on psychologists, nurses and counselors. luz pena, abc7 news. this morning residents in san anselmo are back in their homes after they were evacuated because of a day-long police standoff. members of the s.w.a.t. team went into a home on grove hill avenue yesterday afternoon to find the armed suspect dead. police say the suspect died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. officers were called to the house after someone called 911 reporting gunshots. the suspect barricaded himself inside. that prompted the evacuations.

a longtime member of the abc7 news family tells us what police told him. >> they told us that our houses would be evacuated while they looked for a suspect in a crime they have under way. >> the suspect's name is not being released yet. a person who was inside the home when the shots were fired managed to run out to safety. 5:04 is our time. in san jose, police are increasing patrols in the neighborhood where a woman was found dead in her home on thursday. we now know the identity of that woman. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has more on her and the investigation. >> reporter: sources tell abc7 san jose police have a person of interest in mind for the murder of bambi larson. the mother of two adult children was found dead inside her knollfield way home. a close friend of larson's did not want to be seen on camera. >> it's just so surreal, and i can't imagine anyone wanting to harm this lady.

she's a beautiful person. >> reporter: san jose police is upping patrols in the thousand oaks neighborhood. neighbors and friends are scared, sad, and speechless. >> it's hard not to cry. it's just so hard to face it all, you know? >> reporter: by thursday afternoon, larson still hadn't come to work, and so a co-worker got worried and called the victim's son. the two of them came here to the house, unlocked the front door and found her body in the bedroom. >> it's scary. it's scary for all of us, you know. it's a pretty safe neighborhood otherwise, you know. there's hardly any crime around. >> yeah. >> it's disturbing. >> reporter: investigators have no motive for the murder. friends, meantime, try to live with their pain, knowing a chished woman is gone. >> she was a very kind-hearted person. i'm going to miss her. >> reporter: in san jose, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news.

police say a big b.a.r.t. station was a firecracker. they say it was set off just before 7:00 last night. no one was injured and there was no damage, but the commotion caused a big response from police and fire. one station entrance was closed for a short time and the nearby mall had to be locked down. the person who set off the firework was not found. new this morning, the chp is investigating a crash involving an alameda county fire department truck and an amazon van. take a look. the van ended up on its roof after colliding with a truck in san lorenzo yesterday afternoon. the fire truck was heading to a hospital to pick up their firefighter paramedic when it hit the side of the van. thankfully, no one was hurt. in the north bay, we're getting a better picture of the destruction caused by last week's flooding of the russian river. the county of sonoma says it

suffered $155 million in damages, and an estimated 2,600 properties were inundated by flooding, including about 1,900 homes. an assistance center will open for flood victims today at the former bank of america building on main street in guerneville. 5:07 is our time. abc7 news reporter cornell barnard went to forestville where a big cleanup is now under way. >> two feet from the ceiling, about there. >> reporter: that's how high the water got at brad and crisco's house in forestville. their downstairs submerged, under six feet of floodwater. a fan is working overtime trying to dry everything out. the couple lost a lot. >> artwork that was downstairs in storage, refrigerator, freezers turned upside down, floating. >> reporter: this was the view on wednesday. high water as far as you couldy! >> reporter: friends are stopping by with food and supplies. >> we got yellow-tagged. >> reporter: that means they

spacex's crew dragon capsule has arrived at international space station. no one was aboard the capsule which launched late friday night with only a mannequin passenger. the dragon is the first american-made design for crew spacecraft. it docks by itself instead of relying on the robot arm for help. they could launch two astronauts in a dragon as early as july. the capsule is set to return to earth on friday. the district attorney of sacramento says her office will not be filing charges against the two police officers who

attorney says he ignored commands, moving toward the officers. >> we know that the body-worn camera shows that flash of light, consistent with what the officer said. they said they thought it was a muzzle flash. robin had said he believed it was light reflecting off the gun. >> reporter: the officers fired at clark 20 times but no weapon was found on clark, police finding clark's cell phone under his body. clark's mother obviously angered by the decision. >> shame on her. shame on the d.a. she does not stand for what is just and right. she is not fair. >> reporter: the attorney for clark's children releasing a statement saying "the city has once again failed stephon clark, his family, and the people of sacramento." and sacramento's mayor, darrell steinberg, says today's decision deepens his commitment to changing the long-held standard that allows police officers to shoot when objectively reasonable. he wants a clearer set of rules and standards that would require police officers to do all they

can to prevent a potentially deadly confrontation. linda lopez, abc news, new york. warriors star demarcus cousins honored stephon clark during last night's game. you can see he wrote clark's name along the bottom of each shoe. cousins played for the sacramento kings for nearly seven seasons. he and former warrior matt barnes, who was raised in sacramento, paid for clark's funeral. in response to cousins' shoes, steph curry tweeted "bigger than basketball #stephenclark. west point military academy is remembering a cadet from concord who died while skiing. west point officials say 21-year-old peter zhu died thursday of injuries suffered while skiing last weekend at a ski area on the academy grounds. he was president of the cadet medical society and was planning to attend medical school. his facebook page says he went to de la salle high school. an official from west point says the pain will befeld for a long time. the public is invited to a

memorial service tomorrow for longtime san francisco public defender jeff adachi. adachi died last friday after a medical emergency. while there are questions about the details surrounding his death, adachi's friends, family, and colleagues remembered him at a vigil last week. the memorial starts at 11:00 tomorrow morning at city hall. 5:16 is our time. in san jose's japantown, the city's oldest restaurant may have closed its doors for good. the owner hopes to eventually reopen in a new location, but what she wants to take with her is raising some concerns among those in the community. before san jose had a japantown, there was actually a chinatown, and its anchor was the wings chinese restaurant built in 1925. the beloved restaurant quietly closed its doors due to rising rent. its neon sign installed in the '40s or '50s marking the gateway to yesteryear. the restaurant owner reportedly owns the sign and would like to take it with her, yet in san jose, any exterior modifications to buildings must be approved by the planning division.

historical preservation officer juliette arroyo is reviewing the case. >> it is a character-defining feature of the building, the district, the neighborhood. so if it's removed, you're having an impact. now, that impact might be lessened if it were maybe moved down the street. >> reporter: the owner of the building says the structure needs more than $500,000 in repairs. the restaurant owner hopes to relocate her business and reinstall the sign. planning officials are expected to make a decision sometime this month. brian grayson with the preservation action council of san jose hopes the sign will stay in the city. >> people have a strong connection to the sign, just partly because it's been there for decades, but also, the connection to japantown and the history that has taken place there. >> reporter: signs like these helping to tell the story of san jose. >> it was a great night for a great cause in walnut creek. it was our own dan ashley's rock the casa charity concert at the learner center. ♪ bad to the bone

into monday night and tuesday. i should say, tuesday night will be the heavier rain. it is 55 right now in hayward, 53 in mountain view, 52 in san ramon. and as we look outside, plenty of cloud cover. visibility a bit of an issue out there. we're looking at visibility about a mile from santa rosa, right along the coast, half moon bay, and with a few showers today, we're talking maybe a couple hundredths. it will be dry tomorrow, though. we have two dry days this week to speak of, and then heavier rain arrives later on tuesday. so, today's system a two, a one on our storm impact scale. we have the two on wednesday. looking at scattered light showers, less than 0.2. and then by this afternoon we'll see partly cloudy skies. so, we look at our forecast model here at 7:30, and you notice still the focus up towards cloverdale and just a few spotty showers elsewhere along the coast. and going through the afternoon, by about 4:30, can't rule out a shower for san jose, the santa cruz mountains. oudy ski pus iro the wards the

noh tohe south. light out there, a couple hundredths, maybe 0.4 in oakland. you may not see anything at all, but don't be surprised if you have some mist and drizzle as well. in the mountains, we are looking at our winter weather advisory until 4:00 this afternoon. 4 to 8 inches of snow above 6,000 feet. and so, this still continues to allow for reduced visibility. but if you are headed up there, let's take the chair lift and see what the forecast is going to be for tomorrow, tuesday or wednesday. maybe it's spring break for you. looking at numbers in the 40s for afternoon highs. a little snow there tomorrow and then dropping off into the 20s overnight. and probably could have the place to yourself, although march is a time where a lot of staggered spring breakers definitely begin to take their vacations. 58 in fremont. it is 56 later on this afternoon in richmond. a slight chance of a shower, but overall, we will be dry for most of the day today. we're going to pick this up

tuesday afternoon, and you'll notice that still not looking at much happening here, but as we go through our later tuesday time period, this is when we will see some rain in the north bay. in fact, it could get heavy into the overnight hours. this is wednesday. your morning commute is wet as well as the afternoon, and you know we can't take much more in terms of our soil. looking at some slides all around the bay area, really, with the saturated ground. so it's going to be dicey as we get into the middle of the week. the accuweather seven-day forecast then features a one on our storm impact scale today with light scattered showers, lots of clouds tomorrow. it will be a dry day to start the workweek. then by tuesday, looking at that evening rain. it gets heavier on wednesday with the gusty winds and temperatures will be milder. so maybe some rain in the mountains by later on in the week. by thursday that system is out of here and we should hopefully see some sun by the end of the week. you can download our accuweather app if you haven't already. and some folks are getting weary, but what are you going to

special guest up on stage. that guest, the activist who was assaulted at uc berkeley. you may remember this video. it shows a man punching conservative activist haden williams last month. he was trying to recruit members for turning point usa. a suspect was arrested friday. yesterday, president trump called williams up on stage. he encouraged williams to sue the suspect and others. >> he's probably got nothing, but sue him forever. but sue the college, the university. and maybe sue the state. ladies and gentlemen, he took a hard punch in the face for all of us. remember that. >> williams also spoke. he talked about the importance of free speech on college campuses. president trump also spoke about governor newsome. he says newsom told him privately over the phone that he is a great president and

funeral expenses for their late family members has exceeded its $75,000 al.re than 2,0 people do te eli, sarah, and eva villarreal were killed when their suv slammed into the back of an illegally parked big rig thursday morning. a fourth sibling was taken to highland hospital in critical condition. the family was on their way to san francisco to see their father in the hospital. a frantic search is under way for two girls ages 8 and 5 who walked away from their home in humboldt county. sisters caroline and leia carrico are believed to have entered a wooded area near their home. they vanished on friday afternoon. a massive search party that includes teams from napa county looked for the girls yesterday. searchers found footprints and a granola bar wrapper, possible clues left by the children. a rather bizarre story is unfolding where a black activist

or something that caused it to catch fire. but what makes the story more intriguing is where the car ended up, on lake champlain. the ice is about a foot thick and the driver's working to get it removed before the ice melts. why he was out on the ice is a mystery to begin with. all right, so, more than 100 additional patients will be trans forred today to a brand-new hospital in the heart of san francisco. abc7 news was at the opening of the cpmc van ness hospital. it's already housing some patients who were moved from the pacific and california campuses. those campuses are no longer operating as in-patient facilities. the new hospital features all kinds of new technology. >> we have a patient that leaves the hospital, this machine will actually go into the room and will use ultraviolet light and it will kill every single bacteria that is in the room. so we want to make sure that each room is disinfected and clean for the next patient. >> the hospital has 274 beds and features private rooms. nurses say that's a big addition, especially for patients who are being treated

time is 5:43 on this sunday morning, and we're taking a live look outside from our san mateo bridge camera. much different compared to this time yesterday when we were seeing rain throughout the bay area. changes are the way, though. we'll get an accuweather report from lisa argen in just a little bit. first, the time is 5:44, and in sports, the sharks are in action, back in action tonight, but they may be shorthanded. brent burns is questionable for the game with the flu. he's not missed a game in five seasons. the sharks face chicago at s.a.p. center. the puck drop is 7:00 p.m. warriors will be back in action tuesday night at oracle arena against the celtics. last night they battled the 76ers in the final game of a four-game road trip. larry beil has highlights in this morning's sports report. >> good morning, everybody! yes, it was just a regular season game, but it felt a lot mre important. the warriors came back from a 12-point halftime deficit in philly to beat the sixers and put a halt to a mini losing streak at two games.

going to see perhaps a few showers as we get into the middle of the time frame here. see the dogs there? see fido? that's kind of cute, isn't he? 10:00, 54 degrees, and then really in the mid-50s with the scattered showers. and they won't mind, right? it's just fun to get out and get some exercise. as we look at our roof camera, you'll notice it's cloudy and the showers, right now they're well to the north, up north of santa rosa. but we do have the visibility an issue. and when we get a little bit of shower activity that works to improve our visibility, so between the two of them, as we zoom in north of cloverdale from lake port to upper lake, you can see maybe a few very light showers, mist and drizzle. it is drizzling in truckee. the tahoe valley airport at 34 degrees with light rain. so the snow level will continue to fluctuate between 5,000 and 6,000 feet, but we do have a winter weather advisory in effect here until 4:00 this afternoon, and that will allow for an additional 4 to 8 inches

of snow above 6,000 feet with reduced visibility. our next incoming storm system once again, snow levels fluctuating between 5,000 and 6,000 feet midweek. it is 55 this morning for you in hayward. good morning to you. 52 in santa rosa, 53 san francisco, and the fog from the north bay with a mile and a half visibility along the coast and up in santa rosa with only three-quarters of a mile in livermore. so, be careful out there. san jose, 101, the cloud cover. clouds, a few showers today. it will be dry to start the workweek tomorrow on monday and then heavier rain arrives late tuesday into wednesday. it is a one on our storm impact scale today. that will allow for the scattered showers, midmorning, midafternoon, less than 0.2. then we will see the rain tapering off through the afternoon. you can see the activity, mainly the central valley, the san joaquin valley, then well to the north here just a few light showers. i wish i could say in for the middle of the week system, but we are looking at potentially once again rainfall amounts that

could cause some problems with the rivers. as we look right now for the totals today, very little. 0.03 in oakland, 0.01 in calistoga. highs today underneath the clouds, scattered showers, 60 in concord, 62 san jose, 55 half moon bay. monday we are dry. tuesday we are dry. by the middle of the afternoon, we're looking at showers moving in, but then look what happens tuesday night. this is what i mean with the heavier rain from santa rosa north. it's with us for your wednesday morning commute, your wednesday afternoon commute, and then it finally pushes on out of here. preliminary estimates put the focus in the north bay. this certainly isn't an atmospheric river. that will be well to the south. but in terms of the bay area, most of the rain falling in the north bay with about an inch or more with perhaps a half inch in san ramon. we'll fine-tune it for you. the accuweather seven-day forecast today, just some light scattered showers from time to time. they'll become isolated late in the day. dry for your back to work on monday. download our accuweather app and you'll notice the rain arriving

good morning, bay area. let's get up and get going. >> this is "abc7 mornings." >> it's sunday, march 3rd. good morning and thank you for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a first look at the accuweather forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen, tracking live doppler 7. >> hey, chris. you see the storm impact scale here, but it is certainly drier than it was starting the weekend. we do have a one. scattered light showers will be with us throughout the middle of the day, very light amounts and they will be tapering through the later afternoon hours. so as we look at live doppler 7, you see the clouds. you see a little bit of green representing showers from upper lake to lakeport, but it's the fog from livermore to sabnta roa and half moon bay and mountain view that will cause problems if you're headed out early. 54 in hayward, 52 in santa rosa. it is slightly milder with the clouds, but we will look for not only the mild temperatures
