>> good morning, mike. not likely to be an easy commute for you here this morning. we've had plenty of issues on the board. we're getting improvement northbound 880 near 98th avenue. started off as a disabled vehicle and turned into a two-vehicle collision. one lane was blocked and everything cleared a few moments ago. obviously heavy delays up from hayward into the san leandro stretch. hopefully that thins out soon. drive times, westbound 80. highway 4 to the maze. here in the yellow at 36 minutes of we have a crash blocking the left lane at gilman. westbound 80 across the bay bridge, about 14 minutes for you. a couple disabled vehicles reported along there. southbound 101, san francisco to sfo, you're holding on to the green at ten minutes. thanks, alexis. this level 2 storm on the storm impact scale i for c trans to postpone criticalreirs amy? >> reporter: hi jessica. yeah. they were going to work on this richmond bridge.

remember when the chunks of concrete fell on to afi lt mont? they were going to be working on that. they decided to postpone it because of all of this rain. they can't get enough of a dry spell to get their work done. that has been put on hold. here's a look at the rain that booef experienced this morning. it's been quite a downpour all morning long along with gusts of winds. novato police put out word that there's minor flooding happening on the streets there, which is exactly what they were expecting. listen to this prediction made yesterday. just before all of this rain moved in. >> i think it's likely that we could see some more flooding. we've experienced flooding in isolated areas throughout the city in the last few events. there's too much rain and not enough place for it too,unrtel atmoing.beglanes. it was taken last month when

flooding and storm damage impacted more than 2500 homes and businesses along the russian river. the county is asking residents to place their household hazardous waste on their property near the road. trained staff started collection yesterday for disposal. a special collection is going to happen on saturday. >> in an unexpected turn of events, the man impersonating a federal officer pulled over an off-duty agent and tried to give her a ticket. authorities have now arrested 49-year-old alex taylor of san jose. he is accused of making at least two unauthorized traffic stops on south bay highways while pretending to be a drug enforcement agent. in december he pulled over an off-duty agent and claimed to be a dea agent and wore a fake badge. investigators say that he pulled over a tow truck on highway 17. we apologize for that wrong video. the man tried to pull over cars on 280 as well as highway 85 last weekend.

as a result, police were outside his home. they eventually saw him wearing a fake badge. they were able to arrest him the next day. >> in an unexpected turn of events -- >> that's the same story we just read. all right. we're moving on here. going to move on to r. kelly directly addressing sexual abuse allegations against them in his first interview since his indictment. this was pretty wild. he was arrested on charges involving four women. three were underage at the time of the alda bus. in an emotional interview, kelly refuted the rumors that he held women against their will. >> four or five, six, 50, you said. how stupid would i be to do that? >> i didn't say you were -- >> that's stupid, guys is this camera on me. that's stupid. use your common sense. quit playing. i didn't do this stuff. this is not me. arly t decades of y [ bleep ]ne

allegations an hwas acquitted in the child pornography case in 2008. a documentary series about the allegations called surviving r. kelly was released on lifetime earlier this year. happening today, san ramon unified school district's board of education are hopeful the two sides reach a tentative agreement during scheduled negotiationsment representatives from both sides met to discuss and develop a framework to get back to the negotiation table. last week, 98% of san ramon valley unified teachers voted in favor of authorizing a strike if necessary. sticking points have been reduced class sizes and teacher pay. today is ash wednesday. this is video of the service at the vatican last year. the tradition began in the sixth century as a way for christians to prepare for easter. you see ashes marked in the shape of a cross on foreheads.

seen a few reports of trees down. it continues to be possible above 1,000 feet in the areas you see shaded in yellow here. that's where we have the wind advisory for gusts out of the south up to 45 miles per hour through 4:00 this afternoon. so even when the heaviest rain leaves us in the next hour or two, we have to deal with the winds at least at higher elevations. in the last 24 hours, more than an inch of rain at sfo. we'll have delays. heaviest rain out there now. it will turn to showers as we head into the latter parts of the morning.

new developments in the deadly self-driving uber crash in arizona last year. dashcam video from the suv shows the driver looking down in the moments before the crash that killed a woman walking a bicycle across a street. it's not clear if prosecutors are considering charges against the driver. new this morning, san francisco's only fortune cookie factory is facing an uncertain future. the golden gate fortune cookie factory was recently featured on localish. according to the chronicle, the tiny store was dealing with a huge rent increase. it was about 1400. now the representative is almost

$6,000. kevin chan said his mother for factory in 1962. he's unsure how long he'll be able to keep the company running. >> sorry to hear that. in the north bay, a former sheriff's deputy reunited with a young man he rescued from a car crash in 2007. retired deputy christopher thorpe was getting his tires rotated in santa rosa on monday. he noticed a young man who looked familiar. he pulled then 4-year-old christian flores from a car in a tragic crash that killed christian's family. flores was the only survivor. thorpe was so shaken by this chance encounter, he gave christian the medal of valor that he received for saving him more than a decade ago. >> he deserves that far better than anybody else. he earned that. and it just felt that i was giving it to the rightful owner.

with patchy fog. 6:18. you have a shower moving in to napa right now. it's a lighter shower. it's moving right into the heart of the city along 29. that extends all the way down to about san rafael. that's going to continue marching off towards the east. right now, antioch, we have a heavier cell right there on san jose drive nearing west tenth street. watch out for puddles and uptick in side ways rain there. you can see the steadiest and haviest rain in the east bay across the dumbarton bridge and southward with scattered showers already showing up. the transition is taking place. here we are at 7:00 with the future radar. this is when the cold front comes through. this is the last push of widespread and heavy showers. by noon, you can see there are barely any out there. they're all green. heading into the 4:00 hour, here's the area of low pressure, the parent low and the energy. uptick in coverage and also we start to see yellows and oranges. that's when we have our best

big storm hit and the ship was leaving new york onsunday. they fought 115 mile per hour winds. it tilted the ship to a 40-degree angle. at least eight people were taken to the hospital. all of them have been released. there was no actual damage to the ship but what a scary experience. this morning, we're learning about a major medical breakthrough. the fda approved a nasal spray to treat specific types of depression. it uses the mind altering drug as ketamine, known as the party drug special k. thewooups, gege, i'm atment inb interested in, it carries a pregnancy category c. it could be used in pregnant women and being studied for patients acutelyrea w desperately need better treatment. this drug works as quickly as two days. >> how long does it last? >> they need to be treated every two weeks and boosters as

good morning. it's wednesday, march 6th. thanks for joining us. >> yes. you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. here's mike nicco. >> let me reset it for everybody rejoining us. for the rest of the commute will feature heavy rain, gusty winds, standing water. thunderstorms the better chance of that is going to be this afternoon and evening. winds above 1,000 feet are where we find them blowing fastest. more tree damage is possible through 4:00 this afternoon. here's a look at san rafael, where an inch and 2/3 of rain already racked up in the rain gauge. you can see a moderate shower there on 101 with heavier showers over the san pablo bay. those are heading up towards american canyon and napa. you can see the altamont pass getting hit with a moderate shower. the water there just must be incredible. roof camera, about .8 of an inch

of rain in san francisco. the heaviest rain tapering at 7:00. lighter and widespread showers at noon with mid to upper 50s. same temperature at 4:00. that's when the showers become more numerous and also the better chance of thunderstorms as we head towards 7:00. let's talk about driving through rivers this morning. alexis? >> not a fun commute for any of us here in the studio and probably not going to be for you either. we're looking live at the bay bridge toll plaza where the metering lights have been on since 4:51 this morning due to an early morning crash. that's long gone. residual delays through the maze. hearing about a new crash. a sig-alert in caldecott tunnel. one lane of number 3 is blocked. more on that coming up. right now, i want to head back to san jose. this is where we just showed you a problem, serious collision on berryessa road at morrill avenue. they were able to open up one lane of berryessa road. other than that, that roadway is blocked. let's get to reporter matt keller live at the scene for us.

matt, what can you tell us? >> reporter: good morning, alexis. we've got a light rain right now in san jose. but check out this mess. look at this car on its roof. this is a sedan that got tangled up with this truck that is now being towed away over there. the tow truck just arrived and they're taking away the truck. they still have to get the sedan overturned and taken away. it was raining at the time of the crash. we're not sure how much weather was a factor. one of the drivers tried to run from the scene. that person was caught. one was arrested for trying to flee the scene and suspicion of driving under the influence. get this, the reason why the westbound lanes were blocked off and they're opening up another lane here. ian, we'll walk over here and show them what's going on. you've got the officers, they've got brooms out and shovels out. this isn't normally part of their job. they're doing it to open up the lanes. check out what's in my hand. this is what spilled from all of the trucks from that back of

not to charge the police officers in the death of stephon clark. >> last night, police took out their batons when confronting protesters at a city council meeting. >> please, please put your batons down. you are traumatizing -- >> public comment quickly devolved into chaos at the meeting. the outcry has been ongoing since saturday when the sacramento district attorney cleared two officers who shot and killed stephon clark last march. much of that outrage was over sacramento police arresting them monday night. >> we have to do better than this. >> do it in such a way that removes the officers who still remain on duty in our communities. we don't want to be policed by those officers. >> sacramento's mayor called for an investigation into the police response to monday's protest saying he wants to guarantee the

region's rising cost of living and they can't afford to live in san mateo county anymore. meanwhi meanwhile, the county intends to provide most services during this strike. but a handful of health clinics will be closed. all right. never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. here's a look at 280 at 17 in san jose. another .15 of an inch of rain. grab your rain gear and it's not only wet but breezy out on the open water of the bay. a small craft advisory. it will be breezy through 9:00. american canyon, vallejo, flagship drive, another round of light to moderate rain that will clip the benicia and the carquinez bridges adding more standing water. some of the better radar returns in the santa cruz mountains spilling into the south bay where they become lighter as we saw on the picture. the east bay valleys, a lull as we head towards 8:00. scattered showers possible at 10:00 and again during the

evening hours. for the south bay, we're going to see this round dry up a little bit by 8:00. there's a slight chance, better chance at 10:00. noon and again from 6:00 on. here's a look at san francisco. we have a chance of wet weather. just about any time after we get through the noon hour. for the north bay, look at this. we're starting to see a transition over to scattered showers already. that will continue through 6:00. we've got two more areas, the east bay, chance of showers now and again at 10:00 and again this evening. and then we'll end up down on the peninsula where at 10:00 today, another round of showers and at 4:00 on, there's a chance. it's when we get to the afternoon hours that we have a better chance of thunderstorms. won't be as widespread as this morning. they could be locally heavy with more ponding on the roadways. that's what we've been talking about all morning. just the trouble driving on the streets because of all that water. >> not a fun commute. it's proven to be that here this morning. we've had a lot of issues. let's take you back to san jose

where we have this serious crash. rollover, obviously this vehicle on its roof right now. sjpd trying to get this cleaned up much there's a lot of debris that spilled from the white puckup that was involved in the collision. a lot of screws and looks like, some type of tools and debris like that. matt keller just told us. going to be a while before eastbound berryessa is back open at morrill avenue. the westbound side is back open so that's the good news. that's improving and that is the direction that everyone trying to get to 680 is taking. there we go. a turn lane is closed. but the two lanes on the westbound side are back open. so that is quite a bit better. want to flip over to the traffic maps. i have an update. we briefly had a sig-alert inside caldecott tunnel. westbound 24. we had a crash blocking one lane. it's cleared. however, you're basically a parking lot into orinda. wanted to check drive times. heavy trace toy dublin. 580. same thing on 4. antioch to concord.

in a row. they're going to put it off for a few more weeks. the bridge won't be getting that attention right now. that is highway 37 in novato. it's a hotspot for flooding. you can see from the video that was taken last month when the lanes had to be closed because of water. now that it is raining again, officials will be watching this spot again. novato city leaders say cal trans has put measures in place to try and keep this n. from happening. >> got about six large pumps deployed to move water out. again, when you get too much rain and not enough place for it to go, obviously, they're going to have to close it down if it floods for public safety. >> reporter: it is open right now. we have been checking. here is this morning's rain, though that the area is dealing w heavy downpour overnight. the very early morning hours. we experienced this between 3:00 and 5:00 this morning. probably while a lot of you were sleeping. it was coming down pretty good.

the possibility of thunderstorms. outside the north bay, we have scattered light showers. no yellows or oranges or reds. low to mid-40s up here with fog. the rest of us in the upper 40s. heaviest rain right now just moved through livermore, dublin and pleasanton and it's heading up towards byron and brentwood in the next five to ten minutes. bethel island, it's moving out to central valley. here's a look at the cold front. our last round of widespread showers this morning. once we get behind that, that's when they become more scattered. future radar 7:00 to 9:00 picking up that. after about 10:00 to noon, you can see how much quieter it's going to be if you head out for lunch. borrow the sunglasses. by 4:00, the next round moves in. widespread and heavier. saw yellows showing up towards the end of the commute. during the evening hours, we have our best chance of thunderstorms. so my storm concerns still revolve around the morning commute and the ponding that's still on the roadways.
