red and orange or orange and yellow and light green rain falling along 580 and 680. our storm impact scale ranks it as one, light. scattered showers less than one-third. i wanted to mention that. you can see this live shot, the roads are wet and we'll be dealing with scattered showers. temperatures in the 40s. by this afternoon, a little bit of the break. the spotty showers will be around and some areas will be dry and a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. and then i'll talk about when we will warm up this week. chris? >> frances, thank you. breaking news, ethiopiaen airlines say all passengers on board died. there was 157 people and eight crew members. the plane was headed to kenya. family members are at the airport trying to get answers. the plane went down six minutes

after take off from the eat otha capital. the boeing was delivered in november and it was new. the cause is under investigation. this morning, we're getting the first look at body cam video worn by san jose state university police as they tased, shot and killed a man. we have the video but igt evt m be disturbing to some. [ gunshots ]. >> get on the ground. >> shoot him! [ gunshots ]. >> reporter: san jose state police released this video. >> i'm glad but mad. >> reporter: laurie valdez was his common law wife. they share a young son together. she wanted more than just this video clip to be released blike the dispatch tapes and videotapes from other officers present. >> i see officers who were the

perpetrators. they were the perpetrators. antonio is the victim because antonio was not aggressive, did not do what they were saying. >> reporter: investigators, the d.a. and two federal judges say the tasing and shooting were justified after officers found lopez walking near campus with some sort of a blade. >> put that on the floor. put it on the ground right now! >> take your taser out. >> put it on the ground. >> taser. taser, taser. >> you can see lopez is tazed and starts running. >> shoot him! >> reporter: the 38-year-old was shot twice in the back and died at the hospital. officers insist lopez was a threat. >> when i saw it the first time, it baffled me why they found it necessarily to shoot and kill him. >> now that the body cam video is available to the public, anyone can watch it and come to their own conclusion. >> it's like still not called for to shoot him.

>> you're innocent until proven guilty. >> reporter: lopez' partner says she isn't done fighting. she wants his case reopened and wants a prosecutor to be assigned. bart trains are back in operation but early yesterday morning the entire system came to a screeching halt. riders showed up wondering why everything was closed and were left out in the cold and looking for other transportation. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard has the story. >> once again, we're currently not running any train. >> reporter: not the news bart riders want to hear on a saturday morning. no trains running anywhere, not one. mostly was trying to get to school in hayward. >> what time are you supposed to be there? >> supposed to be there at 10:00. i'll probably be late. >> reporter: the closure was announced at 5:45 a.m. by 9:00. >> back in service. >> reporter: we were there when the gates rolled up in oakland but there was only limited service available. no trains running between daily

city and sfo and that was a huge problem for maria that works for virgin atlantic airlines. >> right now, we're waiting for the bart bus. this will take us to sfo. we're still waiting. >> reporter: frustrating. >> frustrating. >> i have to go to some room and take a bus from there. >> reporter: many complained there weren't enough buses available. >> do you have any idea when one will come? >> not sure, sir. >> reporter: many riders were frant frantic, especially those who had flights to catch. >> it doesn't matter for me, my flight five hours delayed. >> does anybody want to share a ride to the airport. >> reporter: some grabbed a taxi. >> take uber. >> reporter: bart says two of the critical computers failed overnight. >> so one literally powers the train and the other tells it where to go. without those two working in harmony, we could not work with them. >> reporter: the cause a mystery

and no bart service put in their cars. all trains were rolling by 11:00 and rides were free for a time because the computer glitch prevented fair gates from closing. bart is conducting a full forensic analysis to find the cause and make sure things are running smoothly. >> we started sending out alerts about the computer problems early yesterday morning through the abc 7 news app. it's one way to stay on top of the breaking news. the app is free in the app store. enable push alerts to receive the latest updates. you may remember last month we spent an entire week looking at the issues bart and riders are facing as part of the commitment to building a better bay area. we saw ferry evaders and complaints of dirty stations to what the future holds. this includes bringing service to the south bay and upgrading to a more modern fleet but the main focus was the complaints we heard from you about the train system and it's current form.

>> do you want riders to complain? >> of course. that's how you fix it. >> we've been answering your questions they come in but not all bad. we're also looking at some of the things you tell us bart is doing well. we want to hear your thought what is we can do to build a better bay area. head to abc7news.com and search better bay suggestions. on facebook we'd love for you to join the group. cleanup from the devastating campfire has been halted in paradise because of the weather. the hills around the city are saturated and state officials are worried they could give way and cause a mudslide. work is on hold until march 19th. in november, the campfire destroyed a huge portion of the butte county town killing 85. it is expected to take a year to remove all of that debris. there are about 11,000 properties scheduled for cleanup. the sacramento bee reports over

200 have been fully cleaned. last year was california's worst year for wildfires and recorded history. a federal report says a half million more than 2017. a pair of fires burn in lake counties. it set a record as the largest complex fire in state history. more than 100 people died. the bulk of the deaths were in the campfire. in the north bay, people gathered in yonkville to remember three women killed by a gunman at the veteran's home of california. the three women were killed one year ago yesterday. the gunman, oca former resident was found dead after a stand off. the attack happened in the pathway home, a residential therapy program at the veteran's home. >> people wanted to come together and commemorate to

remember the women and work and think about the people that survived and think about how important it is to continue working with these vets who are coming back from deployments with physical and mental health issues. >> the pathway home has been closed since the shooting and will not reopen. take a lack at the upper deck of the bay bridge from our south beach camera last night. that is an suv facing eastbound in the westbound lanes. chp officers say the driver, a woman believed to be in her 60s drove the wrong way from the harrison street off ramp in san francisco. she drove about a mile and a half before pulling onto the shoulder. it happened around 7:00 p.m. her suv did not hit any other vehicles but chp had to shut down two lanes of the freeway to remove the suv. emergency crews took the wan to the hospital. police in san francisco are investigating the cause of a crash that left one person with minor injuries. a car slammed into other parked vehicles pushing one car into the garage of a building on

>> we are. >> here is a live look at doppler seven as it loops around. you see this counter clock weis flow. the center of the storm is off the coast sliding south and as it does throughout the day, it will continue to bring us the chance of showers. we're seeing heavier rainfall now through the lose altos hills, you can see that in yellow and orange along 280 there and as we move through parts of the east bay, light rain falling through the crockett, martinez area and also heading towards highway 4 in hercules and as we check out the live shot, look how clear it's looking. a little break from the east bay looking out towards san francisco and the bay bridge. so we'll get breaks in the rainfall today. but we can still expect scattered showers throughout the day. temperatures are in the 40s and check out san francisco 46, san jose 46 and half moon bay at 49.

this time we're looking in the south bay and see breaks in the cloud cover there. and later on as we get a little bit of sunshine, the breaks in the clouds will let us warm up but also give us a chance of a thunderstorm. temperatures in the 40s, looking at 45 in santa rosa and concord at 47. this time we're looking out towards downtown san francisco, so we got some gray clouds out there and we'll still see showers throughout the day. scattered showers, chance of thunderstorms and then with daylight saving in effect, the sunrise is at 7:28 this morning and sunset at 7:12 tonight. and if you want a break from the rain, the dry and warm pattern starts tomorrow and continues through the week. on our storm impact scale today's storm is ranked one. it's going to be light. scattered showers less than .3. there is some spots that will get trace amounts and still keeping a track of the chance of thunderstorms. it's a slight chance but i did want to mention it.

during the 7:00 hour, we'll see some of the rainfall through parts of the north bay near clover dale and santa rosa and parts of the east bay never livermore and the south bay. by about lunchtime, just spotty showers. so lots of cloud cover but we'll see some hit and miss conditions. looks like most areas will be dry so enjoy that little bit of a break because in the evening as the system slides south, we'll see the last push of showers and mainly hitting the south bay through san jose and also in gilroy and by 11:00 tonight, clearer skies and dry out through the week. rainfall less than one-third of an inch and we could see more in redwood city and livermore but notice areas trace amounts possible in san francisco only .5 of an inch. highs today in the mid 50s to upper 50s, breezy conditions as well near the coast and overnight lows pretty chilly in the north bay with clear skies dropping into the mid 30s for santa rosa, low to mid 40s

around the bay. here is the seven-day forecast. one last day of rain scattered showers, the sunshine returns tomorrow. it will be pretty breezy on tuesday as the system moves to our north but looks like it's not going to bring us any rain. high pressure builds, lots of sunshine into the weekend where we will warm up and we will hit the low 70s. so that's quite a change from today. that's up by 15 degrees and dry. >> feels like forever ago where we saw a string of sunny days on that seven-day forecast. >> it's been awhile. >> frances, thanks. localish is sharing stories of inspiration in a series called "more in common." this week meet the pilots giving free flights to kids and teens to promote sky verdiversity in aviation. >> left. >> cool.

see you soon. a south bay teenager is using her love of fashion to raise awareness of a problem half way around the world. abc 7 news reporter explains. >> reporter: this bay area teen is in business to save the elephants. angelina lu started her clothing company ivory tees when he was in eighth grade. two and a half years later, her cause continues on a bigger platform. >> what most impacted me was the fact they experience the same emotions like we do. >> reporter: elephants being pushed to the brink of extinction. researchers estimate roughly 100 african elephants are killed each day by poachers. during a 2018 talk, lu put that number into perspective. >> that's one elephant every 15 minutes. >> reporter: one major reason she created her clothing store and built her social media following.

slight chance of a thunderstorm. here is a look at the wet pavement in front of pier 15 and could be breezy throughout the day near the coast. you can see the winds blowing. scattered showers throughout the day. spotty during the midday. so we could get nice breaks. chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening as the showers mover towards the south bay and eventually leave our system and then we're talking about a warmup and i'll let you know when you can expect. chris? >> frances, thank you. some democratic presidential hopefuls are attending the south by southwest conference in austin, texas pushing back on big tech in a city where google and apple have big footprints. massachusetts senator elizabeth warren defended her call to break up tech giants to 2020 presidential contender said they have too much power over our economy, society and democracy. warren is proposing legislation targeting tech companies with an annual revenue of $25 billion or more to limit their ability to expand and break up andy

competitive mergers like instagram and acrequisition of whole foods. minnesota senator amy klobuchar said she wants to investigate if breaking up tech industry giants is the right solution. her number one concern is privacy. >> for so long these companies are said we got your back, well, that's just not true and they have somehow equated a free and open internet, which we all support, net neutrality, this idea that you should be able to, everyone should have access to it. that's true. but that doesn't mean that we just say okay, so just take all my data and i trust you. i'm a commodity to you. you make money on me. >> klobuchar said she has a bipartisan bill on privacy legislation. she also floated the idea of taxing social media companies when they sell personal data. >> as north korea restarts activity at a missile site, white house national security advisor john bolton will appear on "this week."

you can watch the full interview at 8:00 right here on abc 7. time right now is 6:32. there is a massive search underway for a missing marine corps lieutenant. lieutenant matthew craft was supposed to return home from a hiking and skiing trip last week. friday night search and rescue teams found his vehicle above independence in the same area where officials say his cell phone was last active. officials say winter storms have made search activiies extremely difficult. lieutenant craft is based at camp pendleton. >> to developing news from chicago where r and b singer r. kelly is out of jail after the child support he owed to his ex-wife was paid but kelly still facing charges of sexual abuse. we have the latest. >> r. kelly released from jail saturday after posting $161,000 in back child support owed to his ex-wife. >> i promise you, we going to straighten this stuff out. that's all i can say now, i

promise. >> reporter: kelly charged with ten counts of aggravated sexual abuse pertaining to four women including three that said they were minors at the time of the assault. last month kelly spent three days in jail before being released on $1 million bond but a family court judge ordering him locked up until the child support was paid. the embattled singer denying the sexual misconduct allegations against him. >> i didn't do this stuff. this is not me. >> have you ever had sex with anyone under the age of 17. >> no. >> his attorney addressing questions why he agreed to the interview. >> he sat for that interview. he wanted to sit for that interview. he's not hiding. it doesn't help his case. it doesn't hurt his case. we are going to try this case in a courtroom. >> reporter: now another woman has come forward accusing the singer of sexual abusing her when she was 13 years old releasing a statement through her attorney that red in part la listening to r. kelly's denial

was hurtful. he needs to tell the truth and needs to stop playing the victim. he was the adult and i was the child. that woman says she is willing to testify against kelly under oath. kelly due backn court on wednesday for the child support issue. his next appearance for the sexual abuse case is march 22nd. abc news, new york. an unvaccinated boy in 57 days in the hospital racking up more than $800,000 in medical bills. >> i'm sure you have a calf cramp, imagine every muscle in your body cramping at once and never stopping. that's what tetanus is. >> how long? >> days and days if it doesn't kill you. >> the cdc says despite extensive review of the risk and

in the forecast. the animation shows some rain falling throughout the south bay during the 8:00 hour but notice we'll get dry spots, as well. as this system wraps around and slides south, it brings the chances of rain farther south, as well and notice during the noon hour we'll see only just a few spots of showers around the bay area. cloudy conditions so a little dry for most everyone and then 6:30 tonight if you're having dinner plans, it's going to be looking pretty dry in the north bay but again, the showers, the best chances of them will be in the south bay and the east bay this evening then by 11:00, we really start to dry things out. we say good-bye to the rain. so rainfall amounts will be a little bit higher in a few areas up to a third of an inch in redwood city and notice in some spots in the north bay, it's hit and miss showers there. so just a few hundredths of an inch and santa rosa got an inch yesterday. highs today in the mid to upper 50s. breezy along the coast. san francisco 55 and oakland 58.
