promise to focus on privacy. he's calling it a pr stunt. roger mcnamee is an outspoken critic of the social network. mcnamee called out facebook at south by southwest in austin, texas. he said zuckerberg's commitment to privacy makes him appear noble but ignores the bigger problem. the business model relies on tracking what they do. mcnamee is currently promoting his book, waking up to the facebook catastrophe. new details about a dangerous situation at oakland international airport. a man is in custody after deputies say he showed up at the airport with a knife yesterday morning. they say 27-year-old ruiz planned to stab an officer and then wantedieto shoot and kill him. a deputy approached ruiz after airport surveillance workers found him acting suspiciously.

the founder of a music vein sue has died. jeannie patterson ran sweetwater in mill valley from 1979 through 1998. this video is from a sammy hagar concert. it became a hotspot attracting some of the biggest names in music, carlos santana, john lee hooker, bonnie raitt. patter died in her home in southern california.

tributes pouring for the son oakland city council woman. >> he was shot and killed in los angeles near usc where he was going to school. amy hollyfield is in the newsroom with more. amy? >> his mother says victor mcelhaney has a son of oakland. he was born and raised there. as a musician, he drew inspiration from the beat of the town. victor's mother is city council member lynette gibson mcelhaney. she said in a statement, i miss my baby. he was studying music at usc. those who knew him in high school remember him as being passionate and dedicated. >> victor was a special human being. that's very real. of course, it hurts when one of ourou ppls e victim of this horrible gun violence that we're dealing with right now. 21-year-old victor was approached by a group of men and shot about a mile from campus.

157 people were killed, including eight americans. the jet was practically brand new. it was delivered to the airline in november. and the crash occurred just six minutes after taking off from the country's capital city. the flight was bound for kenya. the ntsb is sending a team of investigators to help figure out why the plane crashed. and this morning, indonesia has announced it's grounding all boeing 737 max 8s for inspection. it follows china's move to ground the same planes operating there. cayman airways will take its max 8s out of service immediately. but the faa has not issued a similar order for u.s. carriers. southwest, american and united use the jets. should the planes be grounded? >> there's no evidence right ec airplanes. again, getting to the black boxes, finding if there's something about a problem with the airplane. but i think in talking to friends who are pilots at both

bay, sonoma county will begin curbside pickup of debris in the russian river flood zones. garbage trucks will begin going door to door to pick up debris on the side of the road in the hard hit areas of western sonoma county. the work could take days given the magnitude of the flooding damage. the county has set up dumpsters at collection spots for residents to leave their garbage. supervisors voted unanimously last tweak approve a local health emergency because of the hazardous materials in those floodwaters. the wild weather is over here in the bay area. we don't expect to see hail and snow like we saw yesterday. thunder brought rain and later hail to driveways, sidewalks, streets covered with hail in parts of oakland. rain soaked the grounds, toppling trees. david rhymer says large trees may be unstable after recent

happening today, san francisco mayor london breed is hosting her first town hall meeting. it's tonight at the lgbt center on market street at 6:00. the mayor's office will hold regular office hours throughout the city. mayor breed says she wants to make it easier for people to have direct access to her office and get help navigating city government. the northern california 4h volunteer credited with teaching survival lessons to two humboldt county girls will head to washington to be honored. the girls used what they were taught to survive two days alone in rural humboldt county. justin leonard spoke about the life-saving lessons that he taught the 5 and 8-year-olds. they were found 44 hours alive and well thanks to leonard's lessons on how to survive in the wilderness. >> they're very strong girls and they stayed calm. >> the national 4h organization plans to have leonard consult
