inside of the russian river area. in guerneville it is two weeks since it crested above flood stage and today is the first day for curb side trash removal and residents made piles of water damaged furniture. supervisors set aside $2.5 million for flood clean-up but they're hoping fema will help with the amount of waste. >> it is unbelievable how much stuff there is in the street. we do believe it is a record-breaker in terms of the amount of debris removed. >> transportation and public works crews have been working over time to deal with the debris and yesterday was the first day off. officials say it could be more than two weeks before the streets are cleared. >> and today we got weather we're accustomed to this time of the year. sunshine. but the question is how long will it hang around. >> because march is really a rainy month. let's get to spencer christian. >> this is what i like to call mr. roger's weather. a beautiful day in the

that two of the eight americans killed in yesterday's deadly plane crash in ethiopia were brothers from northern california, melvin and bennett live in redding and they were on vacation before going to ethiopia where the crash happened and raising concerns over the plane that went down, the boeing 737 max 8. >> melanie woodrow joins us from san francisco international airport with reaction from travelers. melanie? >> reporter: ama and dan, we spoke with passengers who were arriving here on an air canada flight. they were concerned and so are people online. airline passengers are frustrating that normal rebooking policies are in place for airlines with the boeing 737 max 8 in the fleet after two fatal crashes in less than five months. thect sunday when an ethiopian airlines max 8 crashed killing 157 people including eight americans.

they have said they have extensive analytical data supporting the safety of the aircraft. the union representing america airlines flight attendants issued a bulletin said if they feel unsafe to work the 737 max, they will not be forced to fly it and some are cautioning members against speculation. if you want to check what type of aircraft you'll be flying on, you should be able to click on the flight number or the word details when you book your reservation or afterwards then you could see the type of aircraft. at sfo melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. >> any word on why international carriers have grounded the boeing 737 max 8 but not north american carriers? >> reporter: well, the exact reason has not been shared clearly, but the aircraft, the max is not as much of a part of the fleet of those international airlines. it is a bigger part of the fleet of the airlines here in the united states. now that being said, all of the airlines here are saying they

stand by the safety of the aircraft and that their following faa regulations. but certainly if there were to be a grounding here in the united states, it would likely have a larger impact on service. >> melanie woodrow, thank you. the latest crash sent boeing stock tumbling down $22 a share a drop of more than 5% of the value, at one point down 13% before a late rally. b.a.r.t. is looking into what caused a computer crash that created a systemwide shutdown on saturday morning. a software failure the a specific network switch locked up the complex computer system that routes trains. it delayed the start of the saturday b servicey three hours and everything wasn't back to normal operation until 11:00 a.m. b.a.r.t. hired cisco to find out what caused the glitch. >> they're doing the comprehensive forensic analysis to tell us what went wrong and what do we feed to do to make sure it doesn't happen again.

>> b.a.r.t. said there have been no problems since workers re-set the system saturday morning. tesla is putting its plan to close stores in reverse. but to keep them open, the electric carmaker will raise the prices of the vehicles. all models will go up by 3% next monday except for the model 3 with a starting price of $35,000. tesla did close 10% of the stores but in a blog post said those locations would have closed any way. you may recall at end of the last month tesla is shifting to an online only model to reduce the prices of the vehicles. a chp officer was injured in a crash on highway 101 in san mateo. sky 7 was over the scene. you could see the huge response by other officers. the chp said the officer who was on a motorcycle collided with a volkswagen golf just south of third avenue, just a little after 10:00 a.m. it was about 10:20. we've highlighted the bike on the video for you. abc 7 news has learned the officer has a broken arm and his

injuries are not the driver of the vw is cooperating with investigators. a man who said he was on a cross country trip to confront google was arrested in mountain view yesterday. police first got word of 33-year-old maine resident kyle long from iowa state patrol when he told troopers during a stop he was going to meet with google because his youtube channel had been shut down. mountain view police say they found three baseball bats in his car. last april one person shot and injured three people at the youtube campus in san bruno before killing herself. she had threatened youtube for changes she felt were decreasing her video views. san francisco has a new public defender, mayor london breed appointed manu raju after the death of jeff adachi, they will elect a new public defender. abc 7 news spoke with him after the announcement about his priorities. >> diversity issues are important. we'll look into the gang

ways to build a better bay area and a valley woman is making the neighborhood a safer blase after her grandmother was beaten and left for dead at a san francisco park. >> dion lim has been working with the family of the 89-year-old in a story only on abc 7. >> we were praying that she can talk to us again. >> reporter: we visited 89-year-old woman in the hospital for the first time since her brutal beating on january 8th. where she was left for dead and in a coma. >> no one should suffer from violence from hatred. >> reporter: today there are miraculous signs of improvement. wong could open her eyes and point to a piece of paper on the wall to express what she needs. >> this has ignited in all of us

die. >> unfortunately there is nothing we can treat effectively. >> reporter: prognosis that would have been difficult to accept under any circumstance, became even more painful for the quintana family of fremont when the doctor used a robot to deliver the bad news. >> the doctor said that there was no lungs left, and that he was ready -- he was needing to have comfort care. and that that would entail a morphine drip until he died. >> at the time katherine quintana's daughter was the only family member in the hospital room. quintana left her daughter behind after the doctor assigned to her father in the icu explained she would give the family the final results next morning, instead a different doctor rolled in via video. >> so we never heard from the doctor, you heard it from your daughter? >> yes. because we couldn't understand the man. he couldn't hear them. and the robot couldn't come all the way in the room. it could only come so far. because it is a big machine.

it couldn't come close enough to my dad. >> so there was no bedside manner. there was no compassion. he was reading a script. >> reporter: 78-year-old earnest quintana days a day after the news that his lungs were failing. >> my dad's reaction was to my daughter, well, i guess i'm going to go quickly then. and he put his head down. down.. >> that was it. >> reporter: kaiser perm yenty confirmed it is part of the policy a nurse or doctor is always in the room. in a statement to abc 7 news, kaiser said in part the evening video conversation was a follow-up to earlier in person physician visits and was not used in the delivery the initial diagnosis. and added, we regret that the use of a video call did not meet the quintana's family expectation of passionate experience. >> they didn't brother to call

us. they just did this to him. >> reporter: the family's hope the policy of the hospital will change and allow patients choose whether they want to have a doctor or a video. luz pena, abc 7 news. the number of measles cases keeps going up. we already know of at least two this month in the bay area and both people on the same international flight that arrived at sfo. one person is from san francisco, the other from santa clara county. this is the first case since 2013. centers for disease control said nationwide 228 cases have been reported. washington state and new york have reported the largest outbreaks. on the peninsula the surf is up at mavericks in san mateo. sky 7 went up to see boards in the water, waitingor aice set tool in. not bad. the swells are expected to be quite large today. as well as wednesday. but the legendary surf contest has not yet been called. still on the fence about it. a quick check online showed the deadline to hold it went from

well the rainy days have outnumbered dry days in san francisco by 38 to -- 32, in oakland and 44 to only 26 dry days and in san jose the rainy days have outnumbered the dry days 47 to 23. so you have the picture. it is a rainy year so far. a live view of blue skies over the bay. looking from the east bay hills camera, these are the forecast features. clear and chilly overnight. windy tomorrow with a few passing clouds. spring like warm-up starts later this week,overnight look for low temperatures under mainly clear skies dropping into the mid to upper 30s in the north bay valleys. upper 30s to low 40s in the inland east bay and the south bay but around the coast in the mid-40s and tomorrow high temperatures under windy conditions will rise to only upper 50s on the coast. but we'll see a few low 60s around the bay and inland as well. the forecast animation. a cold front dropping down from the norm west that will produce

call saying we're showing up. >> reporter: one month later, the delivery service did show up, but without the new dishwasher. >> they were supposed to deliver a new one but they said no, we're only scheduled to come bic up the broken one. >> reporter: by now marina is getting used to cleaning dishes the old-fashioned way, by hand and her husband took time off work for these deliveries and both are getting frustrated. >> six times they scheduled appointments and six times i didn't get a dishwasher. >> reporter: her boss suggested she contact me. so she did. four days later, she heard from costco. >> by tuesday costco.com called me, offered me a full refund. by thursday i had the full refund. >> reporter: she has since bought a new dishwasher from elsewhere and received it five days after she ordered it. >> it was the best customer service experience we've had and considering what we went through it was just such a delight. >> costco.com did not respond to our request for comment. however, it did offer her an
