loughlin have been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud. they face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. >> the man in the middle of the college admissions scandal is from sacramento. >> 59-year-old rick singer is the founder of a college prep business called the edge prep career network also called the key. >> singer said his scheme worked 800 times and he collected $25 million in bribes. he pleaded guilty to charges of racketeering, money laundering and obstruction of justice. >> one of the nine college coaches accused of accepting bribes is stanford sailing coach john vandemoer. the university fired him today before he pleaded guilty. court records show in 2017 william singer paid a total of $610,000 to stanford sailing team account to get two sailing team recruits into the school. in at least one of those cases, a false student athlete profile was created. news of the scandal left some stanford students shocked. >> honestly, i think a lot of

people expect there to be sort of a little bit of corruption in college admissions, but to have it happen here is really shocking. >> parents from the bay area were arrested in this scandal. abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow has details about those implicated. >> reporter: and according to a criminal complaint, he told a cooperating witness, you understand my daughter is not worthy to be on that team. he allegedly paid $50,000 to the nonprofit key worldwide foundation for an s.a.t. test proctor to correct his daughter's answers on her college entrance exam which she took all the way in west hollywood with a psychologist's note saying she needed extra time. the money also went to have his daughter recruited to usc as a water polo player, which she is not. when his daughter scored 1380 out of 1600, he was concerned, telling cooperating witness one, i mean, my daughter's score could have been 1550, right? later he was worried about an article coming out. quote, is there any risk that this thing blows up in my face?

hasn't in 24 years, says cooperating witness one. bruise isaac son, president of a real estate development firm in wood side also worried about press coverage. he allegedly paid more than $600,000 for the college recruitment scheme and the college entrance exam cheating scheme for two of his children. in part, by transferring shares of stock to kwf. and he allegedly took a tax writeoff for the contributions. telling cooperating witness one, quote, i can't imagine they'd go to the trouble of tapping my hone, but would they tap someone like your phones? when talking about if the irs were to call, isaac son says, quote, is this going to be the front page story? oh, my god, it would just be -- yeah, ugh. sometimes parents would get confused about which sport was part of the bribe to gain admission. like entrepreneur and investor todd blake who paid to get his daughter into usc. his wife diane is an executive at the san francisco retail merchandising firm winston

retail solutions. blake asked cooperating witness one, quote, it was basketball, wasn't it? cw-1 responds, no, it was volleyball. he later tweeted, so very excited that my daughter charlotte will be attending usc next year. #fight on #trojan family. he since deleted the sweet. often children didn't know, but manuel and elizabeth enriques's daughter did. manuel is founder and chairman of hercules capital in palo alto. according to the complaint, witness number 2 provided his daughter with answers to the s.a.t. exam while acting as a proctor. he gloated, with elizabeth enriques about their daughter about the fact they cheated and got away with it. bill mclauchlin founder of t.p.g. growth is on indefinite administrative leave for his alleged participation in the scheme. other parents charged include physician gregory colburn and wife amy. menlo park jewelry owner marjorie clapper.

as flowers rest along bambi larson's photo, her south san jose community is finally resting, too, knowing her accused killer is off the street. >> i'm just happy. i'm really happy. >> reporter: 24-year-old brutally stabbed and beat larson to death. according to investigators, he is in the country illegally and was arrested numerous times and convicted of more than ten crimes in the last three years. police say he stalked larson's neighborhood and was caught on home surveillance. daniel washer was a friend of larson's who was a mother of two and popular in the community. >> she was just such a big heart, very loving. it's hard to know that people are that -- are that wonderful. >> reporter: police linked him to her murder through dna evidence off of a piece of clothing found in a trash bin next to ron heinz's home. >> i'm surprised by the ones that get arrested and they've had a long record. how do they keep getting out? justice system sometimes i think just fails us in that respect.

streets strewn with trash, needles and worth. it's a fact of life for many who live in san francisco. for two friends, they've had enough. they are working to clean up their community and build a better bay area with a new app. the abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian tested it out. >> reporter: it's fair to say

you like clutter? >> yes. >> reporter: they created rubbish. >> we're able to tag two pieces at once. >> reporter: they launched the site and app last summer. the duo wanted a way to categorize, quantify, pick up and change the trash scene in the city. >> when we go out picking up litter, we call it a rubbish run. it's a lot like a sport. >> reporter: the rubbish runs got simpler when they created a beam that picks up crash while taking a cell phone picture which uploads to the site. >> when i clamp down, the phone takes a photo. >> reporter: then a series of categories automatically pop up on the screen. >> this would be considered "other." so i press that button and that photo, location, the time it was picked up is all recorded and put into a database. >> reporter: as part of the pilot program the rubbish team has been walking up the same corridor of polk street picking up trash three times a week and gathering data. if you're wondering what that looks like, here it is.
