i'm amanda del castillo. from hostage to hero. >> once i started driving, they were screaming at me to go faster, my exclusive interview with ups driver mitch ellerd. >> it's not just for dispensaries anymore. cvs about to take cbd mainstream. i'm cornell bernard. we'll have reaction. and an arsonist on the loose on the peninsula. abc 7 news starts right now. >> live where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> tonight fear and worry on the peninsula after two arsonists were caught on security video setting fires, one so bad a business had to close. >> three were set within 30 minutes of each other, just blocks apart in downtown san mateo. lisa amin gulezian is live in one of the damaged areas.

>> the damage is here. take a look. this wall is charred. it's on the back side of the building and there is also damage on the inside. san mateo police are looking for these men. you see them standing behind vitalent, rummaging through the trash, taking something out of the garbage bins and lighting it on fire. the window melted. the wall is burnt and the sprinklers went off inside, forcing the business to close today. thinking could have been worse. this could have really caught fire that entire building. it could have spread. >> peninsula family service is right next door, and just a few yards away from another trash can fire the arsonists set in this parking garage. >> it's right in our backyard. and this is where our staff are. so we're concerned. >> people who park in the garage on second avenue are scared. >> the cars, there could be an explosion, there is pedestrian, there is kids. there is a day care next to us. many things could happen where

we're worried what's going on. >> investigators believe the arsonist left second and walked down three blocks to third and ellsworth, where they set a trash can in front of joseph a. banks on fire. >> i'm really worried. >> kind of surprising and a little bit concerning. generally my feeling about this area that it is very safe. >> while word of the arson spread throughout downtown, heather is sure of one thing. >> i'm concerned, certainly it won't be -- i won't sleep as well tonight as i did last night. >> and san mateo police have upped patrols and promised to be out 24/7 until these arsonists are caught. in san mateo, lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. get ready for rain tomorrow starting during the morning commute. good evening, everyone. here is a look at live doppler 7. while you're not seeing rain right now, it's going to be changing quite rapidly. take a look at the storm. it's a light level one storm arriving tomorrow.

admitted laura isackson through a special process, touting her achievements playing for a soccer team that never existed in her age group. only on 7, the ups driver who survived a hijacking is sharing what life is like now. >> we first introduce you'd to mitch ellerd in our exclusive story last night. he was taken at gunpot by two suspects and forced to drive for miles with police chasing behind. >> in the end, one suspect surrendered. the other was shot and killed by police. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo sat down with mitch and his wife michelle for an exclusive interview. >> mitch ellerd's story doesn't end with his release. he can recall each moment of that monumental day in detail, including his final interaction with suspect mark morasky. >> i looked back in, and he had his head down, and he was crying. and i just reached in and patted him on his chest twice, and i said you'll be all right, guy. >> ellerd then exited the ups truck and walked to safety. suspect morasky later ran from the truck with a gun in hand and

was shot dead by an officer. while a nation watched developments unfold on tv, ellerd's family was only beginning to tune in, his wife unaware of the situation her husband survived. >> i turned on the news. it was right as everything was ending, but i still wasn't able to get through to him on the phone. so i didn't know what has happened until right at the very end. >> the very end. a moment ellerd wasn't sure would come. >> when you have all these officers come up to you, and in that kind of a scenario, it was such a comforting, you know what i mean? you knew you were okay. >> i have to know, does any part of you feel for the suspect? >> you know, my wife and have i talked than a lot. and i knew you'd ask me that question. i'm not going to paint him out to be a monster. >> ellerd quickly went from hostage to hero. his calmness and critical

a popular young actress on "game of thrones" is revealing a terrifying health battle tonight.

emilia clarke says she has suffered two brain aneurysms since the first season of the show. abc reporter tells us what happened to her and what she is doing about it now. >> you may recognize her as dedenarys. but she suffered from two life-threatening brain an lymphs in her 20s. the first happening after wrapping the first season of the show. >> and i suddenly get this unbelievable pain that felt very much like an elastic band around my brain. >> clarke was at the gym when she got an agonizing headache. an artery had ruptured. while recovering from the first of what would be two surgeries, the nurse asked her name. she couldn't remember it. >> it was the scariest thing i ever experienced in my life. it was in that moment i asked them to let me die, literally. >> the second aneurysm happen affidavit the third season and required a more invasive surgery that left her looking like she had been through a war more

a horrific tragedy that everyone would have liked to have done something to prevent. >> 59-year-old larson was killed in her south san jose home on february 28th. 24-year-old carlos carranza has been charged with her murder. the undocumented immigrant was deported once, arrested multiple times and released from county jail twice without i.c.e. being notified. abc 7 news is bringing you stories of people trying to build a better bay area, and food can bring people together. tonight in san jose, to help bridge the gap between generations. >> abc 7 news was at the mayfair community center. that's where mayor sam liccardo and councilwoman magdalena carrasco hosted a cooking class. they believe cooking together can build meaningful relationships between senior citizens and children. . >> there is at least 40% of our older seniors who are suffering from isolation, and we also know that our younger generations are starting to lose some very significant relationships with

weekend trend. so for saturday, clearing skies, mid-50s to mid-60s. we're always looking into the weekend. sunday, late-night chance of few showers. low to upper 60s. a live picture right now from our exploratorium camera. you can see a few clouds. just drifting across the skies here in san francisco in the city. 40s, 50s on the temps now. clouds are holding those numbers up. and a lovely view from our emeryville camera. rain arrives tomorrow. mainly dry over the weekend, and a wet pattern is setting up again early next week. it's a level 1 on our abc 7 news storm impact scale. tomorrow expect those morning showers. heavier in the afternoon and evening. rainfall from a third of an inch to an inch plus in the hills. that's where it's going to be the gustiest. hour-by-hour, 5:00 a.m., north bay is starting to see some wet weather. look at what happens bile 8:00 a.m. you're seeing the showers, 9:00 a.m. going into the south bay. inland east bay. noontime, we start to see moderate rain picking up in the north bay. we have to wait. there is going to be a little lull before the main energy
