view. we're dry tonight, 6:00, 50s and 60s. leave the rain gear at home, it will not be raining. but this time sunday night or i should say sunday morning into sunday night we'll be tracking our next system. i'll time it out the next time we see you. >> thank you, lisa. we have some stunning information about jeff adachi. we know a deadly combination of cocaine, alcohol and a bad heart killed adachi. dan noyes dug into the newly released autopsy and toxicology reports. >> reporter: one month ago on a friday night, paramedics found san francisco public defender jeff adachi unresponsive on the floor of this telegraph hill apartment. tey shocked him and got a pulse for a few seconds before it was lost. he was transferred to california pacific medical center where a doctor pronounced him dead. a woman listed as catalina told investigators she spent the day with adachi at some point, had some cannabis edibles, a glass

or two of champagne with dinner in her words and that he ate well before complaining of severe stomach pain, so they went back to that apartment. witnesses told paramedics and fire department personnel that the subject had been acting strange and unlike himself and grinding his teeth before collapsing. catalina called 911 and adachi friend, susie kertz, using his phone. i said what's wrong with jeff? she said, he said he had stomach pains and heartburn. she said but he's not doing well now, can you please hurry and come here. >> reporter: kertz is a realtor who let adachi use that apartment on telegraph place for two days. the autopsy concluded the cause of death is acute mixed drug toxicity with cocaine and ethanol, with hypertensive arthrosclerotic cardiovascular disease as a contributor. at some point most likely during the dinner his heart could no longer sustain the stress and became ischemic with death

resulting a few hours later. the report also said the syringes found at the scene were consistent with medical therapy. his death has been ruled an accident. we reached out to the new public defender, manu raju. his office said he would have no comment out of respect for the family. he leaves behind a wife and daughter. for the i-team, dan noyes, abc 7 news. developing news, after nearly two years special counsel robert mueller has completed his investigation into russia meddling in the 2016 election. abc 7 news reporter mona kosar abdi has the story from washington. >> reporter: right now special counsel robert mueller's highly anticipated report is in the hands of attorney general william barr. the 22-month investigation has produced 37 indictments and guilty pleas from seven individuals, including members of president trump's inner circle. barr tells congress he is, quote, committed to as much transparency as possible. he pledged to consult with mueller, who he has known for decades, to determine what other

information from the report can be released to congress and the public. but democrats are demanding barr release the full report to the american people. >> it's imperative for mr. barr to make the full report public and provide its underlying documentation and findings to congress. >> reporter: the final decision is up to barr. >> it's in the hands of the attorney general to decide whether, a, it's in the public interest and then, b, are there any legal hurdles to overcome here. >> reporter: president trump also has the power to authorize the release of the report, including classified information. just this week he said he's on board to do that. >> i don't mind. i mean frankly i told the house if you want let them see it. let it come out. let people see it. >> reporter: the contents of the report so guarded even the president is in the dark. >> it's going to be very interesting, but we'll see what happens. there was no collusion. >> reporter: the justice department says mueller is not recommending any more indictments. on capitol hill, senate

democrats already calling for both mueller and barr to testify in front of congress. as for the president, he says he's glad the investigation is over. mona kosar adbi, abc news, washington. happening today, democratic presidential candidate senator bernie sanders will visit the islamic center of southern california. he will join interfaith leaders in los angeles to discuss and reflect on the new zealand shooting and the need to come together to address gun violence in america. senator sanders will be here in san francisco tomorrow for a rally. that starts at 12:30 at great meadow park at ft. mason. doors open at 11:00. in the south bay there's growing concern after someone shot at a car in san jose's willow glen neighborhood. it happened near west alma avenue and belmont way. amanda del castillo has the details. >> reporter: the drive from this texaco on west alma just before minnesota avenue to ryan la fountain's willow glen home

shouldn't take more than a few minutes, moments that turned dangerous thursday afternoon. >> as soon as it hit the car, it was very loud, obvious that we had been hit by something. >> reporter: he was behind the wheel, his girlfriend in the passenger seat when the acura mdx was hit. whatever struck the vehicle left this bullet hole behind. >> it could have been a pellet gun. some people said a small firearm. so it's not fun to think about that. >> my husband thought maybe it was a .22 caliber bullet. >> reporter: teresa didn't want to go on camera, but after seeing the damage done to her son's car, she fears for the safety of others. located along the same stretch of road are homes, businesses and a brand new preschool. >> so imagine all the parents picking kids up with their windows rolled down on a hot day and that happening. >> reporter: ryan la fountain wants the person responsible caught. until then he's counting his blessings. >> i'm just happy that it didn't actually go through one of the windows. so very close. it was a few inches off. i'm just fortunate for that much. >> reporter: la fountain has

filed a police report. the san jose police department says it has not received any other calls regarding similar incidents in that area. in san jose, i'm amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. pinterest is on its way to an ipo. the san francisco startup is joining the wave of tech companies going public this year. as luz pena reports, the company is banking on this being the right time to do it. >> reporter: pinterest has over 200 million monthly active users. lauren and paul are definitely part of that group. >> show me your board. >> oh, no. >> do it. don't be ashamed. >> mine are so disorganized. >> paul got a bit competitive and talked about his dream house. of course he has a board for it. >> i like to group things like kitchens. that's a cool kitchen look and then a bathroom. the bathroom, it's all about that. >> reporter: lauren has over 100 of these boards. >> so like personal boards, i have like 50. and then for my wedding planning business, each client of mine

>> we asked that he come back and pay attention to what we're going through in lake county and today he proved he's a man of his word and followed through on that. >> reporter: when the governor did return he brought a proclamation of emergency. he has ordered fire prevention measures statewide. they bypass bureaucracy and waive environmental rules that would slow down the process. >> some of these projects quite literally not figuratively could take two years to get done, or we could get them done in the next two months. >> reporter: the executive order will speed tree clearing and forest management in 35 areas in and around some 2.2 million homes in communities bordering wildlands. the bay area will have four of the projects totaling about 3,000 acres in the east bay, peninsula and santa clara county. the largest is the north orinda fuel break. cal fire says it will protect 62,000 people from berkeley through orinda and lafayette to pleasant hill and walnut creek. sky 7 uses sky map 7 to show us what that area looks like

centered along bear creek road. cruise will clear brush and expand existing fire trails to slow the spread of any big fire and make it easier for residents to evacuate. in san mateo county, the kings mountain roadside project will clear trees infected with sudden oak death syndrome. cal fire will protect homes in highway 35 in the woodside area. the el granada quarry park area is full of unhealthy eucalyptus threatening hundreds of homes. in the south bay, the highway 17 fuel break will clear flammable brush and protect the towns of saratoga, los gatos, and scots valley. >> of the 35, every one is seen as equally important and we'll take action on every single one of them immediately. >> 2017 was the worst fire season in california's history until 2018. we can't allow 2019 to maintain that status. we've got to do more.

we've got to be better. i get it. and what we're trying to do today is tell you we want to get it done. >> reporter: when cal fire says they want to begin this work immediately, they mean as soon as monday. they hope to have it finished within two months. in sonoma county, wayne freedman, abc 7 news. we are getting a new in-depth look inside chase center in san francisco. the soon-to-be home of the golden state warriors. cornell bernard tagged along with draymond green who saw his new workplace for the first time. >> reporter: we needed a hard hat and safety vest to venture into the new $1.8 billion chase center still under construction. warriors president rick weltz and player draymond green led the way. draymond seemed blown away. >> i'm kind of at a loss for words. i don't know if you can tell or not, but it's amazing. >> reporter: check out the view from where the court will be. all 18,000 seats seem close to the action. oracle arena had more seats, 19,500, but chase will have

celebrated 35 years of granting wishes for children in san francisco last night. abc 7 news anchor ama daetz was the emcee once again at the special event called the evening of wishes which happened at the ritz-carlt ritz-carlton. it included a reception, dinner and auction to raise money to grant more wishes for critically ill children. some of the auction items included a day with the giants and a private movie screening. larkin street youth services held its paving the way gala last night. the goal, to raise $1 million for programs for homeless young people. larkin street works with 2200 people each year to put a roof over their heads, provide education, employment and health services. weatherwise we've kind of seen it all overnight. we've seen rain, it's been cold. lisa, now, it's looking sunny and clear out there. >> isn't that nice? got rid of the rain as you were sleeping. live doppler 7 confirms that. the san joaquin valley looking pretty soggy and the bay area

plenty of clouds. there's the system moving through the northern portion of the state. we get a break for the weekend. late sunday here comes the next system. so two more systems to arrive next week, but they're going to spread out over a four-daytime period. so unfortunately more rainy days in the seven-day outlook. right now it is freezing in the sierra nevada with a winter weather advisory through 5:00. temperatures are right around 32 degrees. we'll be looking at a couple more inches there. 2 to 4 inches. but you know that system wednesday and thursday, 1 to 3 feet expected above 5,000 feet. several more feet here by the end of the week. it's unbelievable. the view here looking at the fog that is settling into some of the valleys here. so do be careful if you're headed out early. 51 degrees in san francisco as well as half moon bay. 23 oakland and mountain view and a little breezy downtown. we have a mixture of clouds and sun. cooler in the north bay. the rain ended about 2:00 up in

santa rosa but since it was raining all day yesterday, some areas picked up 2 inches of rain. in the mountains, we have got a little bit of light snow, but certainly some treacherous conditions getting up there today, not a great idea. but that winter weather advisory expiring at 5:00. a few lirngering showers not ou of the question. dry tomorrow, increasing clouds and our next storm arrives late sunday just in time for your monday morning commute. so enjoy that sun today. low 60s for you out in the east bay for livermore, 63 in fremont, 58 san francisco, 63 santa rosa, 60 in santa cruz. this is what it's going to look like monday morning for your commute, 6:00. here we go again. it's going to be a level 1 because it will move out of here rather quickly. your monday evening commute looks on the dry side. we have a break on tuesday. then tuesday night the next system comes just in time for

been tracking our weekend forecast. i see some clouds behind you. >> that's right. we have some clouds from mt. tam. the rain has ended here for the past several hours but also some sunshine. it's going to be a cool day, but we'll take it. a nice break from the showers. 51 in san francisco, 52 in san jose, 52 mountain view and oakland. from our exploratorium camera, brilliant sunshine, mid-40s santa rosa. with the lack of clouds there since early this morning, you have cooled off this morning. 51 in livermore. and finally throughout the rest of the day we'll look for partly cloudy skies. temperatures will be ranging from the low to mid-60s for highs, but getting there we will be cool by noon time, low 50s. by about 4:00 we'll see more mid and upper 50s to near 60. tonight it's dry, you just need the jacket. it will be a cool evening. numbers dropping into the 40s and 30s. we'll plan out your sunday in the next few minutes. >> thanks so much, lisa. well, spring is of course here, but it's hard to forget

our wet winter which contributed to some major erosion along our coast. one particular area, poplar beach in half moon bay has seen two times the rate of erosion. lyanne melendez went there to find out why. >> reporter: people in half moon bay have long made the coastline a favorite place to unwind, but this slice of heaven is in jeopardy as the erosion here threatens the local coastline. >> there's been times where we couldn't even get down this way because it's eroded. they have done maintenance work over the years, but i'm worried it will be gone completely before we know it. >> reporter: the erosion here is happening at a much faster rate than anticipated. >> so there's the impact from the ocean behind us, there's storm water runoff from the surface. >> reporter: the winds this year and the previous two years have also accelerated the erosion. the city is now installing

safety fencing along the bluff at five locations. >> the city is concerned with the safety of the general public. >> reporter: another reason for putting up the fencing is to slow down any further erosion. >> you know some warning signs could be helpful, if that's affordable, to say please avoid contact with the cliffs, beware at your own risk. it is really your own risk if you go out there. >> reporter: the city has some signs up and will add more. >> i'm living in cape cod right now so it's something that communities on the coast are talking about a lot and trying to develop resiliency plans. >> reporter: a more permanent fix such as boulders is not economically practical. >> the funding required to armor all of it would be beyond anything that any jurisdiction can come up with. >> reporter: regardless, mother nature will always have the upper hand. >> so we do want to protect not only the bay, but the families who live here. it's a beautiful place. >> reporter: a great view, even though for the time being we may have to admire its beauty

through fences. another question is what to do with this trail, so close to the bluff. should they move it in the future? yet another consideration for the city of half moon bay. lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. in the east bay a memorial service will be held today for the son of an oakland city council member who was murdered this month. 21-year-old victor mcelhaney was shot and killed during a robbery near the usc campus on march 10th. he was a student at usc studying music. no arrests have been made. he is the son of lynette gibson mcelhaney. today's service starts at noon at the temple hill auditorium in oakland. an alert on your phone will soon warn you are potentially dangerous vibrations underneath your feet. the california office of emergency services and usgs will conduct a test for sending early earthquake warning alerts to phones next week. the shake alert will go out to people in oakland on wednesday at 11:00 in the morning. it will be sent to everyone

inside a 60-square block area east of lake merritt. some people outside the area might receive the alert. we have a link with more information on our website, abc7news.com. in the north bay a thief hit a santa rosa homeowner's yard snatching mannequins. we first showed you the yard earlier this week. jason windes installed the mannequins after the city hit him with a zoning violation because his fence is too high. this is what the yard looked like before the theft. he said thieves had access to the mannequins because his fence is now too low. he says he's installed this guard in the yard, but it doesn't seem to have helped. windes says his fence was originally high to keep his dog safe. the city of santa rosa has not commented on the display. today is a great day, it's national puppy day. yesterday we got a head start celebrating here at abc 7. abc 7 holds an annual adoption drive with our perfect pet partners to celebrate the day.

i'm larry beil. all right. so it was a dark and rainy friday, but lisa argen is here with our saturday forecast, which i'm thinking is filled with a little more sunshine. >> that's right, bringing on the sun for you today. good morning, everyone. a live look outside san francisco where you can see it is a little bit hazy. boy, we picked up about a half inch of rain from yesterday to today. and we are looking at a dry saturday, a dry sunday until about 9:00. so early morning risers, this bodes well for the marathon. you'll be running and running in oakland where temperatures will be very comfortable in the 40s to start out, then mid-50s. keep on going, temperatures near 60 degrees by noon time. so if you want to wash the car, i would hold off because we do have more rain in the forecast. some surfers out there enjoying the swell in santa cruz where it is cloudy, temperatures in the low 60s with sun coming out

later on. and from live doppler 7, the front quickly moved through while you were sleeping, up to a half inch on the peninsula and parts of the south bay a third to 0.4 of an inch. so here's the first system, the system that is clearing out of our area. you'll see the sunshine there throughout most of the bay area. a nice break over the weekend. and then sunday night this is what's headed our way. another system that's going to bring at least a half inch of rain right on through tuesday and then there's another one after that. 32 degrees in the sierra nevada. it is still snowing in spots and that's why the national weather service has our winter weather advisory until 5:00 tonight. 2 to 4 inches of snow. up to 8 inches over the highest peaks so slick out there. even though our rain has ended, it's wet out there so slick roadways locally. sfo, nice and sunny. it is 51 in san francisco, 53 in mountain view, 52 in san jose and san rafael right now with

rid of a prohibited item. they eventually found that person and that item was apparently several rounds of ammunition in his carry-on luggage. tsa and law enforcement are interviewing that passenger right now. now to a fresno state professor who has more than a million followers on instagram. he has no pictures of pretty people, places or food. instead it's all physics experiments. take a look. >> somebody started following me. suddenly i got a big spike in followers. it was elon musk. he since deleted his instagram accounts. that's kind of sad. fun is in the title, physics fun. i put the two words together because usually people don't associate those two words together, but i want them to. i want them to realize physics is amazing. the tag line is physics is the real magic of the universe. i had a few things posted. i woke up one day and there was like 4,000 people following me. i thought that was interesting. i started to post a little more often.

suddenly i had 20,000 followers. then i started posting on a daily basis. there's enough people that feel passionate as i do that i have a million people that decided to follow me. i wouldn't have guessed that. this is a coil of wire and the coil is hooked up to some l.e.d.s. if i spin this rapidly, you see that it generates electricity. if you can spin this thing on its side, it will actually flip up. if i spin it -- some of the comments are i didn't know this was physics. or physics really is fun. or just people are surprised. i've even had people write me and say they started their own collection of these kind of things. it's really rewarding just to see the response. it kind of looks -- if i turn it around here it will always hop up onto its stem like so. strange physics interacting with the tabletop. everything i post, i want them to see something that they might not have seen before and realize this is part of our natural

world. you'll see here i look smarter every day, i just made a post, that's kind of fun. if i look to my likes, it will update. so most people if i just swipe, you'll see here's three more likes and a follow just happened. if i swipe again, four more likes just happened. i spend a lot of time in here with the students. my favorite thing is when an engineering major decides to become a physics major. they just find the material so amazing they change their life and go for a different career path. we have a leaf blower where we blow like a beach ball and it stays suspended in air. i set it back on the table, it's still winding down. as i'm walking over to look at my notes again, it fell over and blew all my notes into this big cloud of notes like feathers being blown all over the room.

a lot of people eagerly awaiting tonight's powerball jackpot. lottery officials estimate a winning ticket would bring in a cool $625 million bucks. that would be the seventh largest in u.s. history with a lump sum payout of about $380 million before taxes. but, lisa, at 1 in 292 million, the odds are pretty low. i have a feeling the odds are a little bit better of more rain in this week's forecast. >> you're absolutely right about that but we'll enjoy today where the sun is winning out. the rain is over. 61 in oakland, 60 in san rafael, 63 in fremont.
