drivers protested outside of the omni hotel in san francisco where executive and potential investors were supposed to meet for lyft's ipo. >> there is about to be some new potential millionaires in this city. they've forgotten about the people that are doing the work for them, that are out there every single day risking their lives. there is a crisis going on in san francisco right now. >> one of those drivers is steve. he made $1500 a week three years ago, but those days are over. >> i work generally 50 plus hours a week in the hopes of having $700 after gas. >> he lives in antioch, and now has to drive over 12 hours a day to break even. >> what hurts the most? i don't know. i just think fair is fair. and human beings shouldn'te -- uber and lyft pay them an hourly rate. benefits and workers and transparency when it comes to deactivations and fares. >> they charge the passenger 78, and they give me only 36 with a

tip. >> i think they should that they pay the drivers 30%, and they take 70%. >> lyft, lyft, you can't hide, we can see your greedy side. >> workers organized the protest. were you hoping to speak to one of the investors? what were you hoping? >> i think drivers were hoping to send a message to investors that lyft is not treating drivers well, and they shouldn't invest in the company until drivers are treated with dignity and respect. >> uber declined to comment about this protest and their future ipo, and lyft has not responded to our request. about that meeting with investors. we later found out that lyft changed the location of the meeting. luz pena, abc 7 news. >> all right, luz, thank you. well, the family of indicka steinle cannot sue the city of

san francisco for negligence. >> appeals dismissed the case that the sheriff should have notified federal authorities of the release of undocumented immigrant jose garcia zehr zerate. >> it does not require jail to share with i.c.e. right now police are searching for a shooter in san francisco's mission district. it happened just before 4:00 this afternoon in a california department of corrections building. but police say it does not involve staff. officers found man in the lobby with a shotgun wound. he is at the hospital right now. his injuries are not -- are life-threatening. they are in fact life-threatening. police have not released more details, but we will keep you posted here and on our abc 7 news app as well. police are searching for two spchts who mugged and shot a man in downtown walnut creek. it happened just before 10:00 in the union bank parking lot at

mt. diablo boulevard and locust street. the victim was treated and released from the hospital today. berkeley police want to know if anyone recognizes this man. he is wanted for sexual battery. we slowed down the video for you to get a better look. you can see him touching a woman inappropriately against her will. she then pushes him away. this happened on university avenue near west street. although the attack occurred february 22nd, police released the video today in an effort to help them find the man. well, the rainy season that won't stop continues. here is a live picture as our photographer dean drives back to the station on highway 24 in oakland. still so messy out there. the rain is making the roads slippery and a bit tricky. here is a lock at how fast the windshield wipers are going and folks with their umbrellas as well. this was the scene in san francisco. everyone as you saw a moment ago had their umbrellas out. so far this march, we've seen only nine days of sun. that's the yellow on this calendar that we showed you a moment ago. put another way, we've seen rain

>> sandhya, thanks very much. a still unknown hacker tried to gain access to contra costa election office internet system last week, and now both the state and the federal government are investigating. abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley has the very latest developments now from martinez. >> act hacking attempt appeared to have patterns that matched prior attempts at other government offices across the country. so the incident moved on up to the department of homeland security. it happened last thursday. a single e-mail from a known sender was opened by an employee here. that triggered a cyber security alert that the underlying ip address was not from the known source it professed to be from, and that locked the system down. >> we decided to get the cyber security task force from the secretary of state's office involved, and they've since also involved homeland security. >> what are the possibilities of what they could have been trying to do?

>> they could have done anything from planting fishing software to ransom ware to anything else that most people are subject to getting in their home systems these days. >> election officials have been trying to beef up cyber security since the 2016 election, with reports of possible russian hacking. and here is an instance where that extra security paid off. a new state-of-the-art voting system was never vulnerable in the first place since it's not connected to the internet. >> you know, unfortunately, it's easy to ghost ip addresses. it will take a while for them to figure out exactly where this originated from. if it's too early to really say what the motivation was. >> no other election offices in california have reported a similar hacking attempt. in martinez, i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. apple revealed details about its new video streaming service

today, taking on netflix. the two companies' headquarters only about eight miles from each other. so there is now apple tv plus and netflix. there is amazon prime, hulu, and coming soon, disney plus, the new streaming service from our parent company. and some time next year, nbcuniversal is supposed to jump into the streaming business. all this on top of regular cable. so what will apple offer that the others won't? here is abc news reporter david louie. >> the red carpet was missing, but apple didn't miss a chance to show off its star power. star power using to launch and attract subscribers to the new apple plus streaming service. >> a new service unlike anything that's been done before. >> producer steven spielberg is producing amazing stories, part of a tradition to bring back great storytelling and programs that inspire. apple has forged a partnership with oprah to produce

with love, california. another sign of the outrage is the housing market in san francisco. an overgrown empty lot about the size of a tennis court is selling for $1.8 million. just the lot. sky 7 was over the lot today, located in the city's glen park neighborhood that price is more than the median price of a single-family home in the city. more now from abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez. >> three years ago, this empty lot in glen park sold for $950,000. since then, the price has

doubled. asking price, $1.85 million. >> it seems like a lot of money, but when it's all said and done, a 4,000-square-foot house that's really close to restaurants, you can walk around the corner and go to a french restaurant, a sushi restaurant, it's a great little spot. >> real estate agents like pete branagan jokingly call this area the tip of silicon valley. the bart station and the entrance to interstate 280 are just two blocks away. and those company buses stop here all the time. >> this is a rendering here. >> but the main selling point are the site plans that already exist. the owner of the property, whose an architect, spent the last three years going through the approval process. here is a rendering of what could be built. a 4,000-square-foot home with four bedrooms and 5 1/2 bathrooms. >> if you had an approved site plan set, i would think that would make the property a little more valuable than if you did

bravocado. wash them with a produce brush before cutting them to avoid listeria contamination. the recalled avocados were shipped to california and other states after being packed at several distribution centers. we now know one center is in milpitas. check your refrigerator and countertop. make sure you don't have those. a warning about a disease affecting poultry too. the linsey wildlife hospital has stopped taking in injured wild turkeys after one was infected with newcastle disease in redwood city. the virus is highly contagious among poultry. the animals experience respiratory and neurological problems before they die. this strain is not affecting other types of wild birds. newcastle disease is transmitted through fecal material. >> proteocols to protect not ony our patients, but any animals people might have at home. so we're asking people to change their clothes and change their

shoes before coming in and after leaving. >> the stanislaus county fair has canceled all poultry shows since newcastle disease was detected. the virus is not considered a threat to people. researchers in spain say people keep making new brain cells well into our 90s. that's the red you see in this image. the idea has been debated for a long time. doctors used to think we were born with all the brain cells we will ever have. so it was a set number they thought. but scientists at the university of madrid say the process of generating neurons happens every second of our lives. new number trails off with age and falls dramatically in the early stages of alzheimer's disease. >> interesting. a judge has awarded a san diego mother the overdue child support money that she was owed when her ex-husband fled to canada and never paid up. here is the kicker. this happened nearly 50 years ago, and she is just now seeing the cash. reporter jim patton has the story. >> i kind of put it on the back

burner and forgot about it over the years. >> at 74, toni anderson might not strike you as someone needing to collect back child support for their daughter, who is now in her 50s. >> i'm not negating the fact that i was able to send my daughter to college, paris, and we traveled and had a good time. but the money runs out. >> anderson says she rents her part of the house. and now that she is retired, money is tight. it then dawned on her. >> and i realized the middle of the night one night last year, hey, there is no statute of limitations on child support. >> anderson is now in the middle of negotiations with her ex-husband to get the child support she and her attorney say he was ordered to pay more than a half century ago. >> he was only supposed to give me $160 a month. that was 50 years ago. that today is a lot more money. >> with accrued interest of 10% a year, what would have been a total payment of some $30,000 is now more than 170,000. >> i don't think enough women get this. and i think they're afraid.

>> along with getting what she's due, anderson wants to spread the word to other single parents in california. you can still collect. and to those who skip out, watch out. >> i think he is a little bit panicked, and i'm very happy because i was panicked all these years. now it's his turn. >> well, jim patton was reporting. by the way, 2011 report by the census bureau found that moms were owed more than $12 billion in overdue child support. >> and single moms who are owed support outnumber dads, are you ready for this, nine to one. >> it's good for her to get that victory, even though she had to wait a while. let's get the accuweather forecast from sandhya patel, wondering how much more rain might be copping our way. >> we have several more days. take a look at live view from our golden gate bridge camera. notice how murky it is. visibility is low. we do have some fog out there. down to about a mile and a quarter in san carlos. drive carefully if you have to step out. hayward just over two mile

visibility. if you're in san jose, you're probably wondering where is the rain. not everybody is seeing the rain. from the mount tam cam we do have some rain falling right now. so let's get you in with live doppler 7 to street level radar. very light showers right now from san francisco's mission street, daly city, heading into brisbane across highway 101. look at the heavier rain, though, that is falling in the east bay, from hayward to castro valley. we are picking up some rainfall rates that are about .4 an hour. be careful out there. as we track this batch of moisture going towards blackhawk at 5:33 this evening. we have light to moderate rain on the peninsula from belmont al way to woodside, portola road. you will notice half moon bay, fairway drive, we're tracking the system that is producing spottier showers in the north bay from mill valley to larkspur area. temperatures right now 50s, 60s. it may feel a bit muggy in mountain view and san jose. tomorrow scattered showers.

up to a quarter inch of rain with this system. wind gusts 15 to 30 miles an hour. so hour-by-hour we go. 6:00 tonight, going into 10:00 p.m. still looking at some light rain. i think this model is definitely underdoing it. 4:00 a.m. seeing a few more showers going into the morning commute as well. and then look what happens. that next round comes in tomorrow afternoon, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. i think it's going to get wetter across the bay area. the intensity of the rain will continue to pick up as we go into wednesday. above 6,000 feet we have a winter weather advisory 7:00 p.m. tonight until 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. it turns into a winter storm warning. 11:00 tomorrow night until 5:00 a.m. thursday. two to three feet of snow expected above 5,000 feet. the highest peaks, yeah, it's spring, up to 4 feet. some of the resorts have extended their ski season going into late may. so some of you who love to ski, to go boarding, well, you'll be happy to hear that some telephone resorts are going to stay open even longer. 40s, 50s first thing tomorrow morning.

watch out for that fog. tomorrow afternoon, we're going to see that rain beginning to redevelop again. but for the early part of the afternoon, upper 50s to the mid-60s. just a few showers out there for your tuesday. but hang on to the rain gear. as you take a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast, you will notice what's coming. a few showers for the first part of tomorrow. a light level 1 system. tomorrow night into wednesday, the rainfall will pick up in intensity. it will get gusty on wednesday. slight possibility of thunder. and then we have another level 1 system, creating a wet day on thursday. certainly cooler weather around the bay and inland. and then just to please everyone, i know this rain isn't for everyone. friday, saturday, we're going go brighter, milder, and then sunday there is a chance of a few showers in the north bay, even though the temperatures are going to be in the low 70s around the bay. low 60s coast side. mostly cloudy monday. one model is still hinting at the possibility of a few showers. rainfall, we're about 100 to 128% of average in the statewide snowpack. 155% of where we should be for

airlines are still shuffling flights around due to the grounded boeing 737 max aircraft. american airlines has 24737 max aircraft in their fleet. they announced they'll cancel 90 flights per day as a result. southwest has 34 of them. they are making cancellations five days in advance for an average of 130 per day. airlines advise travelers to keep an eye on e-mail and airline apps. they will contact you directly in case of a change. a british airways flight

seemed just fine today until passengers realized their plane had landed in both the wrong city and on the wrong country. >> what? >> i know, right? an incorrect flight plan was inadvertently filed. the flight from london was supposed to head up to dusseldorf but ended up in edinburgh, scotland. the flight refuel and flew to dusseldorf a little later than planned. everyone was at the right place in the right time in austria. skiers could not believe what they were seeing while skiing. what looked like an avalanche about to fall on a big group of skiers. fortunately, everybody is okay. the snow actually fell into a basin that was created to handle excess snow during high risk avalanche periods. i know take a look at what was caught on video in nebraska near the border with iowa. a huge gathering of wild geese taking flight. a resident there took these pictures and said he had never seen anything like this before.
