like this for one who wasn't a pole vaulter or one like this who didn't really play water polo. later on this week, more parents and former coaches are expected to appear before a judge here. and then next week, actresses lori loughlin and felicity huffman are due in court. michael. >> all right, thank you so much, linsey. now to a startling new study about marijuana. researchers in colorado finding that consuming marijuana in an edible form is leading to a spike in emergency room visits. abc's clayton sandell has more in denver. good morning, clayton. >> reporter: hey, good morning, michael. you know, recreational weed has been legal here in colorado since to 2014. but now, researchers here at the university of colorado hospital say it's not smoking pot but edible marijuana, things like pot-infused brownies, candy and drinks causing the spike in visits to the emergency room. even though edibles make up only 0.3% of all pot sales, they're linked to more than 10% of all

e.r. visits, that is 33 times higher than expected. and the symptoms are serious. they range from hallucinations and panic attacks, to irregular heart beats and even heart attacks. researchers say one of the reasons this is happening is when you smoke marijuana you feel the effects immediately. but when you eat a marijuana product, the high could take three hours to reach its peak. and because it takes so long to kick in, people think the edible isn't working. so they mistakenly take more and more of it and that can lead to an overdose, michael. >> and clayton, what is the marijuana industry saying about this study? >> reporter: well, the industry has long urged people to follow the directions and take the proper dosages and especially when it comes to those candies and cookies, keep them out of the reach of children, michael. >> all right, thank you so much, clayton sandell. robin. now to that spring break brawl that was caught on camera. a masked gunman approaching a group at a gas station in florida, and they fought right back. gio benitez is here with that story. good morning, gio.

>> reporter: hey, robin, good morning. those spring breakers turning the tables on that armed robber early sunday morning in oakland park, florida. incredibly nobody was hurt. caught on camera, spring breakers fighting back. this massive brawl erupting at a florida gas station. a group of cousins from indiana on vacation in south beach turning the tables on a would-be robber. it started when the men stopped for gas after a night of partying. they're then approached by a robber in a mask, pointing a gun. but the friends decided not to cooperate and put the man in a headlock. >> my cousin jacob gets on top of him. i'm in there trying to wrestle around for the gun. >> reporter: the cousins tackling the man, struggling for the weapon. >> at any time it could have gone off. >> reporter: then the robber's accomplice rushes in, trying to break up the fight. but one of the friends manages to grab the loaded gun, pointing it back at his attackers. the brawl finally ending with the suspects fleeing the scene and luckily no one was hurt. >> it turned out the best way possible for us. >> reporter: yeah, and while it worked out for this group, law enforcement experts insist that you should not confront an armed robber.

the streaming service will cost. and the first-ever all-female space walk was supposed to take place this friday. you know what? it's been put on hold after nasa realized they don't have enough suits in the right size to fit the astronauts. >> really? >> they won't be able to make them in time. they both wear a size medium. you cannot make this stuff up. >> yeah, that's -- wow. >> a strange one. we're going to move on to new trouble for michael avenatti. he is the lawyer who became famous for taking on president trump by representing porn star stormy daniels. he's withxt ica, nk and wire fraud in another. pretty dramatic fall. paula faris is here with the details. good morning, paula. >> reporter: good morning, george. good morning, everyone. two separate cases. one here in new york. another in california. both carry severe penalties and decades of jail time if convicted. overnight, michael avenatti defiant.

>> i am highly confident that when all of the evidence is laid bare in connection with these cases, when it is all known, when due process occurs, that i will be fully exonerated and justice will be done. >> reporter: the celebrity attorney speaking after appearing in federal court facing charges of trying to extort nike for millions. >> the charges are based on avenatti's scheme to extract more than $20 million in payments from a public company. >> reporter: prosecutors say it happened quickly. last week, avenatti brazenly confronted nike lawyers after a client of his, an amateur basketball coach, lost a contract with the company. >> avenatti repeatedly pressured the company to agree to pay or risk having avenatti hold a press conference that he claimed would dramatically drive down the stock price of the company and its market value. >> reporter: authorities say, avenatti intended to divulge what he called damaging information, claiming that nike illegally paid high school

basketball players and their families. in a wiretapped call avenatti warning nike, i'm not expletive around adding, i'm not continuing to play games. you guys know enough now to know you've got a serious problem. and it's worth more in exposure to me to just blow the lid on this thing. the tough-talking attorney rose to public consciousness as stormy daniels' crusader against donald trump. and at one point, he even planned on running for president. a meteoric rise and potential fall. the alleged co-conspirator in this case is reported to be another big-time hollywood attorney, mark geragos, who has defended the likes of michael jackson to jussie smollett, and has represented nike's brand ambassador colin kaepernick. geragos was not indicted and has not been charged. on monday, avenatti announcing, he would hold a press conference, tweeting that he would soon expose a basketball scandal perpetrated by nike. just 15 minutes after that

tweet, he was arrested. and this is not the extent of his troubles. in california, avenatti faces charges of bank and wire fraud, prosecutors saying he embezzled a client's money in order to pay his own expenses and debts. now, avenatti was released on $300,000 bond. this morning, he is tweeting that the public will learn about nike's cover-up and crimes and that he never attempted to extort the company. but you guys, prosecutors have avenatti on a wiretap threatening to take $10 billion off nike's market cap. and, again, if convicted serious trouble. the fraud charges carry a max of 50 years, here in new york, 47 years for the extortion charges. >> a long time. let's bring in dan abrams for more on this. now, the nike case more sensational, but it's actually the california fraud case that could cause more trouble. >> he has a more obvious defense which is i'm just talking the way tough lawyers do. we make threats, we say you don't settle and you'll get this or that, et cetera, not saying

it's a winning defense but it's a defense. it is much harder to defend against things like wire fraud and bank fraud, tax issues. why? because they have documents. they have paperwork. and as a result, it's not a sort of ambiguity as to what did i say versus what didn't i say. so, if i'm michael avenatti right now, i'm much more concerned about the california case right now than i am about the new york case. >> you say lawyers talk tough all the time. where do you think he crossed the line in the nike case? >> it comes to the nuance. says know, you should hire myself and it appears mark geragos to do an internal investigation for $15-plus million. and they say, well, we've never heard of anyone doing an investigation for over $10 million and he says, well, you know, fine, let's just call it, 22.5 million and call it a day. and so really what prosecutors are saying is that was all a charade. he wasn't really talking about the need to do an investigation. he was talking about a payoff. and it's that follow-up

conversation, the prosecutors will say, adds validity to their argument. >> you mentioned mark geragos, of course, we have seen him on this program many times. unnamed co-conspirator but not charged. >> right. and this is just with regard to the new york case. you have to wonder, is he cooperating? do they not have enough evidence against him? what is the issue there but he definitely has not been charged. >> dan abrams, thanks very much. michael. all right, george, now to that missing dog mystery. a prize-winning show dog named gale vanished after being checked into a flight and steve osunsami is there in atlanta and, steve, they're still searching for gale this morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, michael. at one point, people here searching for the dog thought that they spotted it. but then it ran away. and while this airport, more than 4700 acres of it is certainly people secure, it's not dog secure. 22-month-old gale has a number of people on her tail this morning. two wildlife biologists, atlanta airport staffers, even people from the faa and customs and border protection are all trying

to find the missing show dog. she somehow escaped her crate saturday as she was being loaded on to a klm flight. to amsterdam. her owner speaking to us from the netherlands in a panic. >> we're 8 hours and about 8,000 miles away. there's a sense of hopelessness and powerlessness because there's nothing you can do. >> reporter: the dog, a pedigree american stafford terrier was in atlanta over the weekend competing at a show. >> it's horrific. we're really missing a family m. we don't have any children. the dogs are our children. >> reporter: in a statement the airline who lost the dog says it expresses its sincerest regrets and is actively working with the atlanta airport to search for the dog. the dog could be anywhere. the airport is gigantic and often the busiest in the world. and airport authorities can't rule out that the dog has escaped the campus. >> our poor wildlife biologist has been out all day yelling and screaming. i talked to him late today. he's lost his voice. our deputy general manager was driving around the airfield all day.

back now with that warning after an instagram star suffered a stroke while doing a yoga move. now she's sharing her story and amy is here with those details. good morning, amy. >> hey, good morning, robin. rebecca leigh is a social media star and she was recording a yoga session for her fans when something went terribly wrong when she pushed herself too far. she's a yoga enthusiast inspiring her more than 26,000 followers on instagram with poses like these. but 40-year-old rebecca leigh is also a survivor. in 2017 surviving a stroke after filming a particularly difficult handstand for her fans. that move landing her in the hospital. at the time writing on instagram, i had an awful headache. i had some strange visual issues and felt a lot of pain in my neck and head. i tried to put my hair in a ponytail and my left arm was numb.

i physically could not get my brain to tell my arm what i wanted it to do. adding, no pose or picture worth what i have been going through. don't be so tempted to push over your limits. leigh learned that she had torn a major blood vessel in her neck and that tear, causing a clot to go to her brain. and this morning, she's sharing her story in the hopes of warning others. in a new interview with media outlet swns, leigh says she suffered from neck pain and migraines in the past but knew this was different. it was terrifying. she says it was like a curtain coming down all around me. my pupils were different sizes. i knew something was very, very wrong. that's when she and her husband, kevin, went to the emergency room, and an mri scan revealed the shocking news. i couldn't believe it. there was no way that someone my age in my health could have a stroke. it's not just yoga. it can occur when the neck is put in extreme positions.

it wasn't a yoga move but an appointment with a chiropractor that led to the sudden death of 34-year-old playboy model katie may in 2016. the coroner finding neck manipulation tore one of her arteries and just like leigh cut off blood flow to her brain. she died a few days later in the hospital. this morning, both cases acting as stark warnings of how sensitive our bodies can be at any age. it is some frightening stuff there. rebecca, by the way, was back on the yoga mat a month after the stroke. saying, if she didn't start again as soon as she could, she never would because that fear is crippling. when you do yoga you feel the pressure in your head and neck but you don't know what's too far sometimes. >> you really don't. thank you, amy. dr. jen ashton will talk more about this. tell us more. >> so two important causes of stroke that people need to understand. it can be caused by hemorrhage or bleeding or it can be caused by a clot.

good morning again, david. >> reporter: morning, robin. coming out of those tests from the weekend, some pilots were surprised how aggressive the nose action down was on this anti-stall system which boeing is rushing a software fix which they plan to reveal tomorrow. this morning, a row of southwest airlines boeing 737 maxes parked in the california desert. and hundreds of others around the world costing millions of dollars each day. boeing's software update expected to be certified by the faa in hours, will be rolled out to customers at a big seattle meeting tomorrow to change the way an automated safety system experienced it in as. simulator days ago were surprised how aggressively that anti-stall system pushed the jet's nose down. one pilot telling "the new york times" pilots would have just 40

seconds to take corrective action before possibly crashing. we know in the first crash lion air, pilots battled that automation right at takeoff for 12 minutes before losing the battle. the ethiopian jet was in the air for six minutes but officials have not said if the anti-stall system was activated. >> the forces of the stick may have surprised the pilots, been stronger than they had anticipated. and this may have confused them and led them to make false moves in the cockpit. >> reporter: now, we've learned that the ethiopians finally shared the data from the black boxes over the weekend with the americans and europeans who were investigating that crash. but nobody has said what has happened in the second crash. ethiopia says they'll hold some kind of news conference later in the week. but boeing's moving ahead tomorrow with all these customers coming to seattle to learn about this software update. boeing trying to get the fleet back up in the air, robin. >> as you said in the first hour it's protocol waiting on the ethiopians to reveal the data? >> reporter: to tell us what happened one way or the other, what the cause is. but boeing's moving ahead and it appears that the faa is going to certify this

software and the fix is coming. >> good. all right, thank you, david. we turn to two big headlines out of washington. the fallout of the mueller report. and president trump taking aim at the democrats and investigators. and democrats demanding to see the full document. the other, the trump administration taking aim at obamacare in court. that could affect health care for millions of americans and our senior congressional correspondent mary bruce on capitol hill with the latest. good morning, mary. >> reporter: good morning, george. democrats here on the hill are upping the pressure, thaw are demanding to see the full mueller report by next week and if not, they are likely to subpoena. while democrats and republicans are both calling for the attorney general to testify here on the report sometime soon, while republicans are now on the offense. they are calling to investigate the investigation. that is something that's likely to come up here as the president has lunch with senate republicans. george, he's bringing his victory lap here to the hill. and this morning, there is another battle brewing over obamacare. the trump administration is now recommending that the entire affordable care act be struck down. and if the courts agree, well,

now to our "gma" cover story. pop superstar justin bieber revealing he is now sleeping in an oxygen chamber as he faces what he calls deep-rooted issues. so can it help? dr. jen is back in a moment. but first, here's diane macedo. ♪ perfect >> reporter: this morning, another clue to pop star justin bieber's state of mind. in his latest instagram post the singer admits he was unhappy during his last tour and is now, quote, very focused on repairing some of the deep-rooted issues that i have so that i don't fall apart. this on the heels of another instagram post where he describes feeling super disconnected and weird. bieber's also sharing images on instagram of himself inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. fans are wondering if he's using the chamber to improve his mental health. >> there's a good feeling and uplifting of the mood because it increases serotonin and you feel energized. pain is decreased. you feel good afterwards.

>> reporter: hyperbaric chambers typically treat carbon monoxide poisoning, to vision loss. but studies show it can improve mental health. bieber hasn't said why he's use the chamber. experts warn the device may not be for everyone. >> it can be used for depression and anxiety but that's a less common use of it. >> reporter: ultimately bieber says whatever is going on, he wants to get better, writing, music is very important to me but nothing comes before my family and my health. for "good morning america," diane macedo, abc news, new york. >> our thanks to diane. and dr. jen isback sols ho >> this is basically pressurized oxygen, robin. we know that hyperbaric therapy is used for wound healing, scuba accidents. carbon monoxide poisoning, some

al illwe should use them all, which means talk therapy, fda-approved medications. cognitive behavioral therapy. certain complementary therapies. even if they vice president been fully borne out, if they're low risk and offer benefit like yoga, acupuncture, then it's okay but any time you're talking about a major risk with something that is not fda cleared or approved, you really need to proceed with caution and in medicine just like in life, robin, just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should. >> well put, all right, jen, thanks so much. george. we turn to a big win for a mother who's been fighting for child support from her ex-husband for 50 years. >> that's right. she is 74 years old. her daughter is 52 and toni an's ex- f canada back in the '70s. but when she found out that he is nowiving in discovered a way to finally get him to pay up. for single mom toni anderson

raising her daughter lane on her own wasn't easy. >> i struggled a lot. i lived from paycheck to paycheck. and i had to take a couple jobs. and it was a detriment to my daughter, because i really wasn't there for her. >> reporter: she divorced her husband back in 1970 when lane was just 3 years old. toni says her ex-husband took off and went to canada leaving them behind in california. >> he made the first payment, $160. i was so excited. i never will forget and i deposited it in my account. and it bounced. >> reporter: for 49 years anderson says her ex-husband failed to make his monthly child support payments including $210 per month for a period of 30 months and thereafter child support payments of $160 per month until the child reached the age of 21. >> it was a challenge for me because mom was always working, always had to support us, so she was never around. and that was hard. >> reporter: but last year anderson said she realized there's no statute of limitations for unpaid child

support in california and decided to take her ex, donald allen lenhart, now living in oregon, to court. according to the lawsuit, anderson's ex-husband owed over $153,000. that includes back child support with interest and attorney fees. the statute of limitations law for child support debt vary widely from state to state. in some cases a parent has ten years to file a complaint. in others, there's though deadline. >> hopefully, it will motivate individuals who owe the child support to come forward and pay that child support so they're not hauled into court. >> reporter: her ex-husband releasing a statement saying we had an informal agreement that i was operating off of after our divorce. but when ms. anderson filed her motion in 2018 to collect the $35,000 in principal plus interest, i hired a private investigator to locate her so i could offer her payment. and he did pay. anderson says she wants other single parents to know their rights. and that this might be an

♪ welcome back to "gma." and we're excited because it is day two of our "veep" week. all week long we're talking to cast members from the hit hbo show. and this morning, we've got three characters or three actors, and they are characters who have been part of the "veep" family from the very beginning. please welcome tony hale, matt walsh, and timothy simons. [ cheers and applause ] ♪ >> hey, robin. nice to see you. >> big drink of water. hello, hey, tim. >> pleasure to meet you. >> you guys. you just make us happy. >> oh, thank you for having us. >> oh, man. >> so excited. >> cozy couch. >> the sock game. >> thank you. >> let me see your socks. >> yeah, tony has a good sock. >> i got a strong sock.

>> everybody got one. >> it's just fine. >> but you know what, seven seasons. >> i know. >> the final season is in the can. you guys are done filming it already. but it premiers pretty soon. but have you guys adjusted to post-"veep" life yet? >> well, we still live at julia's house. [ laughter ] >> i sleep on the couch. >> like all of our families are there. the kids are around. it's great. >> it's like one big commune. >> we have not let go. we have not let go. >> we act out scenes with each other. >> just for kicks. >> i do think -- i was going to say i do think there might be like a football player overlap in that it's not going to be till next fall when we would have gone back to filming. right now, it's all still normal. we're on hiatus. >> the routine won't be there, yeah. >> it was sad. when we finished in december there was a lot of crying. >> a lot of tears. >> we all gathered around the

monitor every time someone finished their last scene. >> julia said you were the biggest cry baby. >> she called me a cry baby? >> a bunch of faces where she was like, woo, woo. it was insulting. it was insulting. no, i'm 100% -- i think -- i wasn't -- maybe i was the biggest cry baby. i was certainly the first cry baby. it came out hard and fast. >> right. >> we all went -- >> it was a lot of tears. it was a whole week of tears. >> we like each other a lot. >> from the table read all the way through. >> yeah, yeah and the wrap-outs, if somebody had their last scene, everybody would come to the set and they would be therea >> i almost cried right now. >> tears, tears, tears. >> what are each of you going to miss most about your character? i mean you, tony, just by selina's side constantly. >> i think i'm going to miss kind of the organized chaos that

the show sort of does. it sometimes chaotic but it becomes its own choreography like me kind of putting on her bracelet and her shoes and, you know, and while she's doing lines. and it's just this kind of comic dance that we do. i'm going to really miss that. >> and tim, you play jonah ryan. but you were white house aide then you were a congressman and now you're a presidential candidate. >> running for president. >> so what are you going to miss most about your character jonah? >> i think the thing i'll miss about him is that he wakes up every single day and without considering any of the evidence, thinks that he's going to do a [ eat job. >> like politics. >> he has no -- he has no discernible skill, talent, char he's like, you know what? today's going to go great. >> today is the day. >> very entitled. >> matt, what about you, your character mike, you were selina's spokesman until you got fired. >> correct. thanks for bringing that up. thank you.

you celebrated that. >> i did say a little too much excitement. you got fired. you got fired. what are you going to miss most about mike? >> well, in terms of the big show i'll miss those table reads because that's the only time we get to see the script for the first time and everybody is around the table. so it's like play practice. and then, as far as my character, i think i'll miss how unbelievably dumb mike can be. like i love pushing the stupidity of that character and i love like spilling things on myself, which i actually do in real life a little bit. and eating in every scene. every time there is a food scene i'll tell the prop guy, bring that food a little closer because mike always eat. >> that's it. that's it. >> it's a simple one. >> i couldn't imagine gary ever being fired. what would gary do if he were not with selina? >> maybe he'll go on like match.com and just find another mother figure to carry around her purse. [ applause ] >> yeah.

>> baby bjorn. >> just carry around her target bag. >> we'll take a look at a clip of your great work. so here we go. here's "veep." >> there it is. >> hey. is kim here? >> no. she got fired for sleeping with you. buzzfeed runs a tight ship. i should probably thank you. you are looking at the new deputy senior editor. they're putting me up and all i gotta do is sit on some page for new media innovators. >> what do you know about that, mike 53729 @aol.com. >> i got hacked, mike 53729 -- >> still at aol? >> yeah. >> you going to tell him? >> aol. >> full disclosure, my only email is aol. i've had the same e-mail for to years. >> life imitates art. >> you may be the only person with aol. >> aol is just counting on that walsh money every year. >> i still pay $50 a month, right? >> that's good.

>> but your character, you're not working for selina anymore. we already established you were fired. >> yes. >> what would season one mike tell season seven mike? >> i think he would say, mike, there will be a new thing called social media so learn how to type and learn how to use a mouse. >> yeah. >> and take photos on your phone. >> yeah, yeah, yeah. >> all the schism things. >> tim, your character, boy, the insults are just hurled your way and i understand that when you're out in real life out walking the streets that some people actually shout some of those names to you? >> they do. not a single one of them is really appropriate for morning television. which also means they're not really appropriate for the grocery store. but it still happens. but there was one that is actually somewhat appropriate but i was -- i remember i was moving a bunch of stuff out of the garage at my house. and a car passed by my house, turned around, came back, the window rolled down, and they went, hey, jonad. and the car just drove away.

they turned around and drove off. >> my other favorite is when someone just said to him, you have the wrong shape. >> that's just my body. that's just what my body looks like. and they're like, sometimes his head is too big for his body. and then sometimes his body is too big for his head. i'm like, guys, that's just me. >> there's a real person here. >> you know, when julia was here yesterday we had an interesting question. if you three were on the ticket who would be the president, vice president and campaign manager and her first word was, well, we'd all be screwed. >> that's exactly what she said? >> those were her first words. >> she said matt would be president. >> oh. >> tony, tony would be vice prt. >> o campaign mager. >> that's dangerous. >> so matt, being that you are president, what would be your campaign slogan? food. >> well done. >> are you guys hungry? >> yes. >> america, are you hungry?

[ applause ] >> i believe the name of that band was boy zone. >> slow encroachment of judgment in the room. nothing wrong with boy bands. yeah, boy zone, i was dancing on a dance floor as one does when i was 17. and louis walsh came up to me and said he was going to get a band together. it's going to be huge. would i like to be part of it. i said sure because i would have done anything and they made me sing "careless whisper." you wouldn't have been saying that if they heard me sing it. and they made me sipg it a second time because i was so bad. >> are you talking about this "careless whisper." >> no. >> by george michael. >> oh, yeah. ♪ waste the chance that i've been given ♪ >> sit bringing back memories -- >> it's bringing back those moments of glory with that dead

[ applause ] and we all start somewhere. but look at you now. >> yeah, yeah, yeah. i mean this is the fallback career i'm doing now. >> so it's working out okay. >> not bad for plan b. >> i love "dumbo." it's one of the classic 1941 -- >> yeah. >> really one of the most iconic of the disney films. and a big undertaking to try to do it live-action. what was it about the role that you said yeah? >> it wasn't so much the role, the undertaking to take this story chrks is probably about 30%, or 40% a remake. in our version, because the original story dip hadn't have h human component. it was all about the animals and there was some kind of inappropriate stuff as sweet as it was but this was tim burton making about 70% a new film, a family trying to find their way back to each other all set to the backdrop of the circus. not so much the role as working

with tim on a story that is essentially about inclusion and celebrating difference and that we all have some kind of inherent magic. it's just a matter of, in life, finding out what that is. >> great messages. >> lovely. timely messages forever. we do need to be reminded as human beings to treat each other with compassion and not look for an outsider to exclude and make ourselves feel better. and that's what, "dumb beau" is essentially about. >> we want to see. let's take a look. >> don't be scared. don't be scared. now your mama's right outside. oh. whoa!
