case involving excessive force. former deputies michelle broussard and alana simpson hogan were fired on valentine's day 2017. investigators found broussard used excessive force in a 2015 fight with an inmate. simpson hogan was found to have covered up the abuse. sheriff lori smith declined to comment to the mercury news. the san mateo county board of supervisors approved funding to help rebuild the millbrae community center which burned down in 2016. investigators determined that the four-alarm fire at the facility on lincoln circle was arson and two teenage boys were arrested for allegedly starting it. on tuesday, the board of supervisors approved the disbursement of $500,000 for the new facility. but much more funding is still needed. the millbrae city council selected a tentative design in february with an estimated cost of $31 million.

rudy meredith was a key player in the investigation into the school admissions scandal. meredith began cooperating with the federal authorities last year after investigators set up a sting in a boston hotel room and caught him soliciting a $450,000 bribe from the parent. he led authorities to rick singer, the consultant at the center of the scheme who later agreed to work with investigators and record his conversation with parents. an abc 7 news i-team reporter melanie woodrow will be in a boston federal courtroom for the upcoming hearing for some of the parents accused of varsity blues scandal. our coverage begins right here on abc 7 news. first people were trampling the super bloom in southern california. now this. that's a helicopter landing right on top of the sensitive flowers. everything bad. >> also up ahead, on the road, one of b.a.r.t.'s new trains headed for the bay area. where it was just spotted. jessica, this one is for you.

welcome back in this next story. it has us shaking our heads. authorities in southern california want to find the people who brazenly landed a helicopter to see the poppy super bloom happening in antelope valley. look at this. this is such a disregard for mother nature. the instagram group landed their private helicopter on top of the field of poppies in lancaster. a couple hopped out, began hiking the field. when authorities started going after them, they jumped back in the chopper and took off. huge crowds flocked to the field to catch a glimpse of the orange poppy super bloom. >> please do not doom the bloom. stay on the designated trails within the reserve. do not trample the flowers. >> don't trample the flowers orland a helicopter. a private october hohelicopter the flowers and go for a hike.

arrival delays into sfo. oakland, san jose doing okay. want to zoom in on this big storm over fremont. fremont boulevard. 680, 880 the cut through between the two. could be ponding on the roadways there as the rain is falling at a clip of nearly 2/3 of an inch per hour. it's not moving very quickly either. the north bay, scattered lighter showers for you. here's a look at our highs. not too bad. still cooler than average. tonight the cooling trend continues with low to upper 40s in most neighborhoods. future radar, 7:00. you could see plenty of showers still out there. running through the lunch-hour. even yellows. possibility of some heavier rain, maybe each a thunderstorm with small hail. 6:00, it's still out there. by the overnight hours, there's still random showers. if there's any showers tomorrow after 9:00 in the morning, it's going to be mainly in the north bay and northern sonoma and lake and mendocino counties. the rest of us will be okay. as far as tahoe, we have snow showers.

the heaviest of the snow is over. temperatures will reach 50 by sunday. rain monday. and then more snow tuesday. our seven day forecast thoes shows, yes, drier weather for friday. more chances of light storms monday, tuesday, wednesday. let's talk about the snow with alexis. >> the toyota tahoe report. conditions, boy, i feel like the last couple of weeks, we've been just cruising to get to the sierra. not going to be the case today. we have chain requirements on every route to lake tahoe and all of these resorts. i did put up state route 89 in the red here. there are a few portions of will 89 that are closed due to snow. chains for 80 and 50. all these drive times are definitely longer than they have been the last couple of weeks. certainly pad your drive time and plan on that. base totals very healthy here. sugar bowl, 142 to 215-inch base. again, chains required no matter what resort you're heading to

stretch. live doppler 7 on top of the traffic maps. the fremont area and 880 doing okay as it 680 into free memorial hospital as well and 84. however, 880 is slow north of there, hayward into fremont. southbound 680, leaving the dublin pleasanton area, heading south, 24 miles per hour, 27 miles per hour. not terrible. we'll see if those speeds go down even more once that heavier pocket of rain reaches you. emeryville, westbound 80. looking okay here. definitely have heavy steady traffic as you approach either the maze or head into downtown oakland. no major blocking issues still this morning. >> thank you, alexis. we start with a heartbreaking story. a 4-year-old oakland boy fight to go survive a gunshot wound to the head. after an apparent accidental shooting. >> his name is nevon jackson. a family member shared a photo with us. he's in critical condition.

it happened inside a home near bancroft avenue. sky 7 shows us oakland police responding to the scene. officers took a man and a woman into custody. family members tell us the boy was playing when he found the unlocked gun under a bed. >> a baby got ahold of a gun. we got to be more responsible. >> family members tell us the boy does not live at that house. >> breaking news overnight. icelandic low-cost carrier, airline, wow air says it stopped flying and is now out of business. it has left thousands of travelers stranded around the world. this is a message wow air posted online overnight. it tells stranded flyers to arrange travel from other airlines. the carrier struggled to find funding after failed acquisition talks with iceland air and an airline ownership group. wow offered flights as low as 99 bucks one way to its hub in

madison bum gardener will take the mound at 1:10 this morning. the giants home opener happens nxt friday, april 5th. this morning, pg&e creditors are proposing a $35 billion plan that would allow the utility to exit bankruptcy within a year. bloomberg news reports the plan would establish a $14 billion trust to pay claims from deadly wildfires in 2017 and 2018, including the north bay and paradise wildfires. pg&e is facing liabilities that could exceed $30 billion because its equipment may have started those fires. a new development in the jussie smollett case. the fbi is looking into why chicago prosecutors dropped criminal charges against the actor. abc news reports that at this point the fbi is just conducting a review. this is not an investigation. here's what abc news chief legal analyst dan abrams had to say about the new development on gma. >> they're looking to see if there was any corruption involved. i don't know that they're going to be able to find corruption as

opposed to ineptitude. >> there's so many questions. >> that's what people are saying. >> i don't think people should lose faith in the system. this doesn't always happen. >> wow. president trump now weighing in. he tweets, fbi and doj to review the outrageous jussie smollett case in chicago. it is an embarrassment to our nation. >> speaking of president trump, he is making a rare visit to california. he's set to headline a campaign fundraiser next week. it will happen april 5th in los angeles. tickets start at $15,000. they go as high as $150,000 a head. a san francisco jury has delivered an $80 million verdict against the maker of the weed killer roundup for causing a bay area man's cancer. >> it's the second ruling against monsanto, the maker of roundup in less than a year. a federal court jury awarded bay area resident ed hardeman $80 million in damages after it determined the weed killer he

used was responsible for causing his nonhodgkin's lymphoma. hardeman is now in remission. >> like many people, he went into the local hardware store, bought a bottle of roundup concentrate, mixed it himself and used it for over 26 years. >> monsanto's parent company disagrees with the decision and will appeal the verdict. let's take a look at what's going on. you can see that rain has overspread pleasanton and dublin and over towards livermore heading out towards the altamont pass. we've got more showers in the santa cruz mountains that will slip into the south bay through the morning commute. that's where our best radar returns are. low to mid-50s in san francisco right now. very mild there. most of us in the mid-40s to mid-50s. cooler than it was yesterday. here's a look at san mateo bridge. you can see it's wet from leftover showers during the overnight hours. mass transit, driving ferry ride. any time today is could be wet and breezy. peninsula, your best chance of rain, you really don't have one.

trust me, a shower or two will find you. temperatures will top out in e ththe upper 50s this afternoon. best chance at 11:00 and 7:00, a random shower could hit anywhere at any time as we top out in the low 60s. in the south bay, other than this morning, you've got a pretty good chance of avoiding showers for the rest of the day. not saying completely. but you have the best chance. temperatures in the low 60s. got a couple of dry days and warm spring weather. but since it is spring, the seesaw will swing us back through wet weather next week. i'll show you that in the accuweather seven-day forecast. >> we're looking at heavy traffic on the richmond side of the richmond-san rafael bridge. let's look at that now. inl we've got road roadwork. i don't think it's officially reported. they've been working on this area for several days here. unfortunately, it's causing a 15-minute delay. we can flip over on the traffic
