border. mr. trump wants all illegal immigration halted by mexico. he says if they do not comply, he will shut down either the entire border or large portions of it next week. there's strong reaction to the president's demands. we have reactions on both sides. cornell? >> president trump says if the system at the border isn't fixed soon he will close it. some here in the bay area are hoping that doesn't happen, but others believe it's the only solution. the trump administration calls it a cascading crisis at the u.s. southern border. a surge of migrants into the u.s., creating a humanitarian crisis. >> i think that the president is entirely misguided. >> sultani immigrated to the u.s. with his family. he is a director for the aclu which celebrated its birthday. he believes president trump is

wrong. >> the border is the port of entry for commerce, for people. and shutting the border is a misguided attempt by the president. >> jackie speier is feeling a bit of deja vu. she doesn't know what to make of the president's threat. >> i think better minds will attend to his effort to always try to do something that's hyperbolic. >> but leo lakhaio says shut it down. he supports president trump's idea to calm the border crisis >> what american can be against securing or borders? would you let everybody into your house? i don't think so. >> if president trump makes good on his threat and shuts the border down, the aclu plans to get involved with court action opposing the move. the threat to shut down the border is raising red flags for businesses.

of thousands to get his daughter into usc. the press democrat reports he's passed responsibilities onto his father. it is a strategic move because a criminal conviction could jeopardize the winery's license. a father who jumped into the san joaquin river to save his son remains missing. the family had been on a fishing bat when the boy went overboard. the 41-year-old father went into the water to rye try to infant. the young daughter called 911. the infant is recovering but the father has not been located. we have followed the flight of the residents of hope village. now the clock is ticking on residents to place to live. we are joined from san jose

where the dead lean line is fas approaching. >> reporter: you can see behind me the last of the 17 residents are packing up th packing up thh this was a fully-functioning tent city. they had their own showers, a kitchen, even trash pickup. now there are empty squares everywhere, showing where tents used to be. the majority of people who have moved out have gone to two motels here locally. they have vouchers for 30 days. after that, many think they'll be out on the streets, near the river or in a shelter again, but monday of those places they say. >> safety, you know. and i don't know where i'm going to be next, but i'm not a strong street person. i know a lot of rules now, unfortunately, unfortunately i had to learn.

are your the reason this place is closing, they needed the village it to move because it's unfit for because of the noise. the founder of the village thinks it's personal that the city didn't want to find anywhere else for these people to locate to. he expects many to return to the streets once motel vouchers run out. abc 7 news. lyft's debut on the stock market is hailed as a success. it saw its shares pop as much as 21% at the closing bell. lyft stock was up nearly 9%. some of its drivers are going to be cashing in as well. depending on their history, they could earn from $1,000 up to $10,000. lyft also plans to invest ann l annually in transportation

rolling stones fans are going to have to wait for the band to return to the bay area. it is postponing its tour so mick jagger can get medical treatment. it's not clear what medical challenges he's facing. fans are encouraged to hang onto their tickets, because the

stones plan to reschedule their concerts. they came here in 2013 for their 50th anniversary tour. researchers met with dozens of families around the world today to help put an end to life-altering diseases. abc 7 was in burlingame where a research conference was held on jordan's syndrome. today 50 families traveled from 22 countries to meet with columbia and uc davis researchers who have isolated that gene and linked it to other conditions. >> as a linkage to epilepsy. the more the research happens the more they find out the mutation has linkages to a number of diseases and have clues on how o deto deal with t. >> it has also been linked to

well, get ready for free park fridays in the east bay to celebrate the 85th anniversary, the regional park district is going to waive entry and other fees starting every friday in april. it does not apply to state fees like fishing licenses and boat inspections. there are plans for free events
