dueling protests in chicago. both linked to the local prosecutor whose office dropped all charges against actor jussie smollett. the city's police union led one protest calling for cook county state attorney kim foxx to be removed from office. the reverend jesse jackson organized the other protest in support of foxx. jackson also called for the city to come together following today's mayoral runoff election. singer r. kelly's attorney has withdrawn his request that a judge allow kelly to travel for performances. during a court hearing, kelly's lawyer also said the prosecution's case against kelly has been marred by the involvement of attorney michael avenatti. he said there was a rush to prosecute r. kelly because of pressure from avenatti, who represents two of kelly's accusers. turning now to the manhunt in los angeles for a killer of a music star. >> police have identified a suspect in the killing of grammy nominated rapper nipsey hussle, a man by the name of eric

holder. it comes after at least nine were injured in a stampede near a vigil for hussle in los angeles. several people were treated by paramedics. abc's adrienne bankert was at that scene earlier and explained how hussle was being remembered. >> reporter: rapper nipsey hussle was set to meet with l.a. police to work on stopping gang violence. instead the community is mourning his passing. the artist gunned down in broad daylight in front of the clothing store he founded. ♪ >> reporter: born ermias asghedom, the 33-year-old started out selling mix tapes from his car. just this year nominated for his first grammy. >> this is my first album, so you know that's important, that's special. >> reporter: stars including rehr rihanna and john legend, steph curry paying tribute. >> obviously sending prayers to his family, his community.

the couple's marital troubles. >> what we're going to talk about is something pretty deep. i sought treatment for sex addiction at an inpatient treatment facility. >> reporter: we caught up at i heart media where they record their podcast, talking to them in their first sit-down interview since opening up about their struggle. you cheated? >> uh-huh. >> what happened? >> i can make any kind of excuse between me transitioning from the nfl into the quote-unquote normal world, feeling like i've lost my identity because i wasn't a football player anymore. i ran to women. i ran to sex. what kind of flourished, what i later found out, is an addiction. >> reporter: the retired football player revealing he spent 60 days in a residential treatment facility near nashville and has been in a 12-step program for the nearly three years since. >> sex addiction is not a very socially accepted disease. there's so much more shame around sex addiction. i love that she's speaking out about it. because i think people want to understand it more. >> sex addiction is relatively . it is absolutely not just the high-profile cases you hear about. it can afflict anybody.

patrol estimates over 100,000 migrants were stopped in the border in march, an even higher number expected in april. homeland security secretary kirstjen nielsen announcing 750 customs and border protection officers will be immediately assigned to areas dhs says there's a migrant crisis. >> the president will do everything he can. if closing the ports of entry mean that, that's exactly what he intends to do. >> reporter: chamber of commerce warning 5 million american jobs would be in immediate jeopardy. about 1.7 billion worth of commerce employees across the board every day. 40% of all fruits and vegetables that come into the u.s. are from mexico, which could mean higher prices at the grocery store. one of the places that could be hardest hit, el paso, texas, whose republican mayor says closing the border would be critical to his city. >> $103 billion just in el paso? >> just through our ports here on an annualized basis. back and forth. imports, exports. >> the white house saying it would take something dramatic for the president to not follow through on his border threat. immigration experts believe

closing official ports would send migrants looking for other ways to enter into the united states. danya bacchus, abc news, los angeles. >> our thanks to danya. as danya mentioned there, nearly half of all of the fruits and vegetables imported to the u.s. are grown in mexico. >> if the president makes good on his threat one expert estimates the u.s. would run out of avocados in three weeks. also a shortage of tomatoes, cucumbers, blackberries, raspberries, and other produce. so a big, lasting impact in lots of areas. boeing needs more time to finish its work on a software fix for a flight control system. that system is suspected of playing a role in the deadly crashes of boeing max jets in indonesia last october and ethiopia last month. boeing expected to complete its work on the system last week, but now the company and the faa says that the work will be completed in the coming weeks. then the faa says the system will be put through a rigorous safety review.

four people are dead at a business in mandan, north dakota. police are looking for a suspect but say there's no threat to public safety. suicide has been ruled out. the three men and one woman worked for the family owned property management company. there's no word of possible motive. attorney michael avenatti insists justice will be done in his own criminal cases. the lawyer best known for representing adult film star stormy daniels made a court appearance in southern california where he's charged with fraud. he's also facing separate charges in new york for trying to shake down nike. >> i am highly confident -- i am will be done. i appreciate it. >> as avenatti left that impromptu news conference, he was heckled. you probably heard some in the background. a separate unrelated civil case in california accuses avenatti of embezzling money from a client.

>> and whole paycheck coming down. >> i can't wait to talk about that, i got some things to say. >> i got some things to say. we've got a lot to get to this morning. we begin this half hour with democrats demanding answers after a white house whistle-blower voiced concern over security clearances. >> a career government employee on the job for nearly two decades say administration officials granted security clearances to more than two dozen people whose applications were initially denied. there's speculation president trump's son-in-law, jared kushner, may be among them. last night kushner brushed aside the allegations. >> over the last two years that i've been here, i've been accused of all different types of things. all those things have turned out to be false. we've had a lot of crazy accusations like that we colluded with russia. i complied with all the different investigations. >> the whistle-blower made her complaint during a private interview with the house oversight committee. abc's kyra phillips has the details. >> reporter: a whistle-blower

working inside the white house tells congress top officials authorized security clearances for at least 25 people whose applications had been denied for reasons including foreign influence, conflicts of interest, concerning personal conduct, financial problems, drug use, and criminal conduct. tricia newbold, who has worked in the white house personnel security office for 18 years, warns the situation could impact national security. she says among those 25 people, two very senior white house officials with significant disqualifying factors, including foreign influence and outside activities. a memo released from the house oversight committee doesn't name names, and earlier this year president trump denied he had overruled security officials to secure a top-secret clearance for his son-in-law, jared kushner. >> did you tell general kelly or anyone else in the white house to overrule security officials? >> no, i don't think i have the authority to do that -- i'm not sure i do -- >> you do.

>> i wouldn't do it. jared's a good -- i was -- i was never involved with his security. >> reporter: ivanka trump doubled down in this interview with "the view's" abby huntsman. >> the president had no involvement pertaining to my clearance or my husband's clearance, zero. >> reporter: but just days after that interview, "the new york times" reported the president had in fact ordered his former chief of staff, john kelly, to grant kushner that top-secret clearance. no comment from the white house, but house republicans are pushing back saying that newbold had trouble recalling specific details during her testimony. democrats are preparing to subpoena her former supervisor. kyra phillips, abc news, the white house. >> our thanks to kyra. today is the deadline house democrats have set for attorney general william barr to turn over robert mueller's full report to congress. >> barr said the report will not be available to lawmakers until mid-april. he said he's still in the process of removing grand jury

testimony and classified information. but house judiciary chairman jerry nadler wants to see the unredacted findings from the russia investigation. democrats plan to vote on wednesday to subpoena barr and several former white house officials. president trump celebrated his sweeping criminal justice overhaul at the white house joined by several former inmates. he said the bipartisan first step act will give countless current and former prisoners a second chance at life. alice marie johnson, whose sentence the president commuted following a personal appeal by kim kardashian, thanked the president and one of his favorite targets. >> i thank everyone in this room for your prayers, and i also want to thank the media for being so kind to me. because you have really -- you have really helped magnify my story. >> are you sure? >> yes, she's sure. johnson was released from prison last year. she was a first-time nonviolent drug offender who was sentenced to life in prison without parole. breaking overnight, chaos at

a vigil for slain rapper nipsey hussle. hundreds gathered outside his clothing store, the site where the hip-hop star and anti-violence activist was murdered. a number of people were injured trying to get away. the confusion came amid new details about hussle's killing. law enforcement sources tell abc news he appears to have been targeted and he likely knew his killer. police are identifying the suspect as 29-year-old l.a. resident eric holder. hussle was in a gang growing up but it's not known if the killing is gang related. people have been posting pictures on social media of other possible suspects. an emotional scene in a new york courtroom just hours ago as a suspect was found guilty of murder of a young woman. >> we, the jury, find the defendant guilty. >> that reaction from family and friend of karina vetrano who was

killed while out running near her home in the summer of 2016. chanel lewis, the man convicted, will be sentenced in two weeks. he faces life in prison without parole. lewis' defense attorney is vowing to appeal the conviction. a second woman is accusing former vice president joe biden of inappropriate behavior saying he was disrespectful of her personal boundaries. this time it's a former congressional aide who says biden touched her face and rubbed noses with her at a fund-raiser ten years ago. she's speaking out as biden faces fallout from another complaint. abc's mary bruce has more from washington. >> reporter: joe biden's would-be presidential campaign is facing a major test with two women accusing him of touching them inappropriately. amy lappos tells the hartford courant that biden touched her. describing the scene to our affiliate wtnh -- >> then he reached over and put his hands behind my head and pulled me close. and i thought, he's going to kiss me. >> reporter: former nevada lawmaker lucy flores said she
