dueling protests in chicago. both linked to the local prosecutor whose office dropped all charges against actor jussie smollett. the city's police union led one protest calling for cook county state attorney kim foxx to be removed from office. the reverend jesse jackson organized the other protest in support of foxx. jackson also called for the city to come together following today's mayoral runoff election. singer r. kelly's attorney has withdrawn his request that a judge allow kelly to travel for performances. during a court hearing, kelly's lawyer also said the prosecution's case against kelly has been marred by the involvement of attorney michael avenatti. he said there was a rush to prosecute r. kelly because of pressure from avenatti, who represents two of kelly's accusers. turning now to the manhunt in los angeles for a killer of a music star. >> police have identified a suspect in the killing of grammy nominated rapper nipsey hussle, a man by the name of eric

holder. it comes after at least nine were injured in a stampede near a vigil for hussle in los angeles. several people were treated by paramedics. abc's adrienne bankert was at that scene earlier and explained how hussle was being remembered. >> reporter: rapper nipsey hussle was set to meet with l.a. police to work on stopping gang violence. instead the community is mourning his passing. the artist gunned down in broad daylight in front of the clothing store he founded. ♪ >> reporter: born ermias asghedom, the 33-year-old started out selling mix tapes from his car. just this year nominated for his first grammy. >> this is my first album, so you know that's important, that's special. >> reporter: stars including rehr rihanna and john legend, steph curry paying tribute. >> obviously sending prayers to his family, his community.

>> reporter: the young tear father with admitted ties to an l.a. gang remembered most as an entrepreneur, activist, and advocate. >> he called for peace. he called for justice. we're calling upon whoever killed nipsey to turn yourself in. >> reporter: adrienne bankert, abc news, los angeles. >> our thanks to adrienne. so the murder of nipsey hussle has just had people up in arms over the last couple of days. it's hard for i know a lot of people at home to wrap their mind around because they hadn't heard of him. he was, as adrienne mentioned, first nominated for a grammy last year. he's not a newcomer, he's not up and coming. he's been around for a long time and doing amazing things for his community out there in l.a. building a s.t.e.m. center. things like this that are hugely impactful to the community. he was largely impactful to a young man we covered in black history month in february. so doing incredible things, trying to help the community. to see him taken at just 33 years old, awful. it's heartbreaking. your heart aches for his family. >> people hear the word gang and immediately think a certain way, and think it was gang related. police said he was set to meet

>> this morning we're hearing from one celebrity couple who are just now opening up about their struggle. here's abc's marci gonzalez. >> reporter: actress jana kramer and former nfl player mike caussin seem to have it all. the hollywood couple all smiles on the red carpet and social media. those beaming photos showing their loving and growing family. but behind that public image is a deeply personal battle the couple is now sharing for the first time. >> we're not hash tag relationship goals in the way that everything is perfect because it's not. we've had more downs, lows than highs. >> yeah. >> we're fighting through those things. >> reporter: the most daunting of those lows, mike's struggle with sex addiction. >> yeah, i mean, it manifests in different ways for different people. it doesn't come from me wanting to have sex or anything. that is me feeling a certain way. for my entire life, looking back, i used sex as my escape from that. >> reporter: last week on their podcast, the former jaguars tight end candidly spoke about

the couple's marital troubles. >> what we're going to talk about is something pretty deep. i sought treatment for sex addiction at an inpatient treatment facility. >> reporter: we caught up at i heart media where they record their podcast, talking to them in their first sit-down interview since opening up about their struggle. you cheated? >> uh-huh. >> what happened? >> i can make any kind of excuse between me transitioning from the nfl into the quote-unquote normal world, feeling like i've lost my identity because i wasn't a football player anymore. i ran to women. i ran to sex. what kind of flourished, what i later found out, is an addiction. >> reporter: the retired football player revealing he spent 60 days in a residential treatment facility near nashville and has been in a 12-step program for the nearly three years since. >> sex addiction is not a very socially accepted disease. there's so much more shame around sex addiction. i love that she's speaking out about it. because i think people want to understand it more. >> sex addiction is relatively . it is absolutely not just the high-profile cases you hear about. it can afflict anybody.

and it's particularly increasingly common amongst young people. >> reporter: dr. drew pinsky works with the addicted. >> people come to treatment because they have run-ins with the law, their spouse, their employer, and they are brought into treatment and they can't stop and they're in pain. >> reporter: mike admits since leaving rehab, he's had relapses. but this week mike hit a major milestone. you're one year sober? >> yes. >> what does that mean to you? for for me it's hard, honestly, to accept. only because there still is so much pain and shame behind my actions, that i don't want kudos, i don't want a pat on the back for behaving the way i should behave. ♪ love is just blind >> reporter: jana's turning to music to help with her healing and to inspire others. recently releasing a song called "beautiful lies." ♪ tell me beautiful lies >> i want to explain how this made me feel when i first found

out to be false. we've had a lot of crazy accusations, like that we colluded with russia. i complied with all the different investigations. >> republicans have dismissed the whistle-blower's allegations as overblown. democrats plan to subpoena her former supervisor as early as today. president trump is reportedly bringing in an immigration czar to coordinate the administration's policy against several agencies as migrants continue to head to the u.s. in droves. the president is again threatening to close the entire border as early as this week. but no plan has been revealed. abc's danya bacchus has the details. >> reporter: president trump insisting he will shut down the border as soon as this week if mexico doesn't stop the flood of asylum seekers heading to the u.s. >> if they don't stop them, we're closing the border. they'll close it, and we'll keep it closed for a long time. i'm not playing games. >> reporter: customs and border

patrol estimates over 100,000 migrants were stopped in the border in march, an even higher number expected in april. homeland security secretary kirstjen nielsen announcing 750 customs and border protection officers will be immediately assigned to areas dhs says there's a migrant crisis. >> the president will do everything he can. if closing the ports of entry mean that, that's exactly what he intends to do. >> reporter: chamber of commerce warning 5 million american jobs would be in immediate jeopardy. about 1.7 billion worth of commerce employees across the board every day. 40% of all fruits and vegetables that come into the u.s. are from mexico, which could mean higher prices at the grocery store. one of the places that could be hardest hit, el paso, texas, whose republican mayor says closing the border would be critical to his city. >> $103 billion just in el paso? >> just through our ports here on an annualized basis. back and forth. imports, exports. >> the white house saying it would take something dramatic for the president to not follow through on his border threat. immigration experts believe

closing official ports would send migrants looking for other ways to enter into the united states. danya bacchus, abc news, los angeles. >> our thanks to danya. as danya mentioned there, nearly half of all of the fruits and vegetables imported to the u.s. are grown in mexico. >> if the president makes good on his threat one expert estimates the u.s. would run out of avocados in three weeks. also a shortage of tomatoes, cucumbers, blackberries, raspberries, and other produce. so a big, lasting impact in lots of areas. boeing needs more time to finish its work on a software fix for a flight control system. that system is suspected of playing a role in the deadly crashes of boeing max jets in indonesia last october and ethiopia last month. boeing expected to complete its work on the system last week, but now the company and the faa says that the work will be completed in the coming weeks. then the faa says the system will be put through a rigorous safety review.

four people are dead at a business in mandan, north dakota. police are looking for a suspect but say there's no threat to public safety. suicide has been ruled out. the three men and one woman worked for the family owned property management company. there's no word of possible motive. attorney michael avenatti insists justice will be done in his own criminal cases. the lawyer best known for representing adult film star stormy daniels made a court appearance in southern california where he's charged with fraud. he's also facing separate charges in new york for trying to shake down nike. >> i am highly confident -- i am will be done. i appreciate it. >> as avenatti left that impromptu news conference, he was heckled. you probably heard some in the background. a separate unrelated civil case in california accuses avenatti of embezzling money from a client.

spell. police believe she may have run away with her 47-year-old maybe. they fear she may have dyed her hair in disguise. the missing teen was last spotted thursday getting off her school bus. spell's family telling abc news the teenager was a babysitter for the man's kids seen here smiling in a selfie with the 47-year-old. they claim they alerted police after seeing numerous texts to their daughter. police are not commenting. authorities have put out a call for the public, friends, classmates to come forward with any information on where these two might be. marcus moore, abc news, houston. >> our thanks to marcus. a san diego-area hospital is accused of secretly recording patients in its women's health center. >> the lawsuit alleges the motion-activated cameras captured obstetric and gynecological procedures, but also the women undressing. this allegedly happened in 2012 and 2013 and involved 1,800 patients. >> according to court documents, sharp grossmont hospital claims the recordings were part of an investigation into employee drug theft.

working inside the white house tells congress top officials authorized security clearances for at least 25 people whose applications had been denied for reasons including foreign influence, conflicts of interest, concerning personal conduct, financial problems, drug use, and criminal conduct. tricia newbold, who has worked in the white house personnel security office for 18 years, warns the situation could impact national security. she says among those 25 people, two very senior white house officials with significant disqualifying factors, including foreign influence and outside activities. a memo released from the house oversight committee doesn't name names, and earlier this year president trump denied he had overruled security officials to secure a top-secret clearance for his son-in-law, jared kushner. >> did you tell general kelly or anyone else in the white house to overrule security officials? >> no, i don't think i have the authority to do that -- i'm not sure i do -- >> you do.

a vigil for slain rapper nipsey hussle. hundreds gathered outside his clothing store, the site where the hip-hop star and anti-violence activist was murdered. a number of people were injured trying to get away. the confusion came amid new details about hussle's killing. law enforcement sources tell abc news he appears to have been targeted and he likely knew his killer. police are identifying the suspect as 29-year-old l.a. resident eric holder. hussle was in a gang growing up but it's not known if the killing is gang related. people have been posting pictures on social media of other possible suspects. an emotional scene in a new york courtroom just hours ago as a suspect was found guilty of murder of a young woman. >> we, the jury, find the defendant guilty. >> that reaction from family and friend of karina vetrano who was
