express my thanks to everybody enough for what's happened. >> reporter: on sunday morning ibonie stood up for a denny's employee who was being harassed by a belligerent customer. the customer punched ibonie leaving him with a broken nose, palate and teeth. these are security photos of the suspect who fled the scene after attacking ibonie. ibonie's mother, paula, wants justice for her son and the community. >> that's my plea, everybody look at this picture. this guy is dangerous. >> reporter: initially it was believed the suspect was a doordash driver. tuesday morning investigators here at fremont police said there was no evidence of that. however, last night fremont police say that doordash gave them new information about a second employee who better matched the suspect description. no arrests have been made. but as soon as we learn any new information, we'll update the story. i'm kate larsen, abc 7 news. it is 4:30. good morning.

another look of your weather and traffic. we start with mike nicco. >> we'll take a different approach. live doppler 7 and how quiet it is this morning. now there are some pockets of drizzle out there. the radar tends to overshoot those because they're so close to the ground. so don't be surprised if you do run into a few wet spots during your commute. a look at the ferry building. a breeze off the ocean means temperatures won't make it back to average but fairly comfortable. mid to upper 50s. we'll stay in the 50s at the coast. hit 62 to 63 at noon for our bay and inland neighborhoods. around 61 at 4:00 and still very comfortable during the 7:00 hour. 55 to 58 degrees. so we get a little bit of a break today. tomorrow, especially friday, more chances of rain. want tt back to sue with a look at the commute. looking at road work overnight. there is some road work in the sunol grade in the northbound

direction. be aware there are some lane closures there. we'll take a look at your drive time this early wednesday morning. half an hour from tracy over the altamont. you will find some slowing there. road work there as well due to be picked up. antioch to concord west on 4 is looking good, under 15 minutes. your ride from marin all the way into san francisco from san rafael under 20 minutes. >> thank you, sue. happening today more bay area parents are charged in the college admissions cheating scandal, and they'll be in a boston courtroom. >> jobina, two parents are facing additional charges. >> reporter: good morning. the two parents are gregory and amy colburn, accused of paying for the entrance exam cheating scheme and indicted on money laundering charges. their attorney says the couple is innocent and their son took his s.a.t. test without assistance. and the parents were exam had been altered. expected in court is bruce isackson of hillsborough whose

daughter was reported as a soccer player. elizabeth and manuel henriquez should be in court today. elizabeth, her daughter and the test procter gloated about cheating and getting away with it. packaged food entrepreneur peter sartorio is accused of paying in the entrance exam cheating scheme as well for his daughter. no children have been charged. >> whether that's a policy decision or that they're using that as leverage to get their parents to plead guilty, i don't know. >> reporter: that was doug rappaport. he is not representing anyone involved in the case. actresses felicity huffman and lori loughlin as well as her husband mossimo giannulli will also be in the courtroom. new developments in one of the deadly crashes involving a boeing 737 max jetliner. investigators say ethiopian airlines pilots followed boeing's emergency procedures

before their plane crashed. however, they could not get the plane to start climbing again after shutting off an automatic flight control system. doubts about the system prompted the u.s. and other countries to ground 737 max aircraft. boeing is working on a software update to help prevent other crashes. los angeles police say rapper nipsey hussle was gunned down after an argument. the suspect, 29-year-old eric holder, is in a los angeles county jail this morning. he was arrested after a woman believed to be a getaway driver turned herself in to police. she was later released. surveillance video shows holder talking to hussle outside his store on sunday. police say he returned after the argument and then opened fire on hussle. an east bay priest accused of abusing a teenager is now charged with 30 counts of lewd acts with the child. father david mendoza-vela made his first appearance yesterday. prosecutors say the alleged abuse took place at st. john's

catholic church. he was transferred to corpus christi in 2016. he has served as a priest in alameda county since 2013. the diocese of oakland is encouraging anyone who may have been victimized to call the alameda county d.a.'s office. in the east bay a total mess at an oakland school after an act of vandalism and now the community is stepping up to pay for the cleanup. teachers and students discovered the damage when they arrived at the school yesterday morning. vandals broke windows, covered the walls in paint and smashed computers and a toilet. a librarian was one of the first to discover the destruction. >> the hallway was two feet of debris that had just been pulled off shelves. >> the vandals are still on the loose. the damage will cost thousands to repair. a go fund me account has been launched to raise the money. it's raised more than $2,000. the goal is $20,000. we have 52 in noe valley and

in sunny side up to 55 in the financial and ocean beach, the marinas, 54. we have the castro and the mission at 53. bayview at 54 right now. temperatures pretty much in the low to mid-50s everywhere. so enjoy that. and it's not nearly as wet as it has been. it's dry on the western span of the bay bridge. i'm going to say for the commute everything is good. a random shower this afternoon but it will not impact your commute like the last couple rain events did. the peninsula will be cloudy. peeks of sunshine. 53 at 7:00. near 60 at noon and hang out in the low 60s. for the east bay valley 55 this morning. we're already if the 60s at 11:00 and mid-60s for the better part of the afternoon under mostly cloudy conditions. and you're going to find the day part here for the south bay mostly cloudy starting around 53 and ending up around 62 at 3:00.

the union is fighting for better wages and housing allowances. it says the hospital has proposed cutting cafeteria privileges, resources for on-call doctors and reimbursements for certain licenses. employees will protest outside the hospital at 12:30 this afternoon. one of san francisco's busiest streets has gotten an upgrade. >> mayor london breed celebrated the completion of the skate project yesterday. it's a 1.8 mile stretch of beach and improvements include new trees, upgraded sewer and water mains. resurfaced pavement. >> i'm so excited about what it is going to do to improve public safety for each and every one of us. >> in an effort to help build a better bay area san jose state

students say parking can be hard. a new app is trying to help them by connecting drivers with private parking spaces. it's still taking time for the light. >> reporter: described as the airbnb of parking, the app allows drivers to rent private spots from 30 homeowner hosts around san jose state. >> i have missed classes because of the parking problem and also missed my exams. i wanted a solution to my own problem. >> reporter: they are promoting the app on campus and is sharing occupancy statuses at university garages. according to sjsu, 20,000 students drive to school but only about 5,500 parking spots available at the main campus, another 850 spots are available near spartan stadium. the app is causing some apprehension in the

someone's problem. 4:44 right now. let's check weather. >> i have a little bit of a solution for your wet problem the last couple of days. then that problem comes back. rid of it, we have spring warmth in the forecast to follow it. a look at 280 and 17. remember how it was raining here yesterday, looks pretty dry this morning. we just have pockets of drizzle and then maybe a random shower. for the most part mostly cloudy today. w have wet weather and breezy conditions thursday and friday and then spring warmth blooms next week. for today you can see there's a green dot in the santa cruz mountains, a few in the north bay. that's it. we may need the sunglasses more than anything else today as the sun will filter through the clouds from time to time. 60 to about 66 degrees except for half moon bay. you can see a few showers again tonight with temperatures in the mid to upper 40s in lake port, clover dale, ukiah, redwood city. the rest of us 50 to 54 degrees.

7:00 this morning, a few green specks. most of those over the ocean but see how they try to rotate towards us and kind of fall apart as we head to the lunch hour. make sure you have our app with you so you can see where the showers are going, if they do even develop. they're pretty much all gone by 7:00. as we head into the evening hours it's mainly cloudy and dry as we get a little bit of a breather before that next system rolls in. now if you get caught under one of the random showers, i started the clock at 4:00 this morning. you can see a couple hundredths of an inch of rain but not a lot of moisture with the system. a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast. more showers for thursday. so we put a one on it. friday that atmospheric river, could be up to a half inch of rain in some areas. that will stop saturday morning, so clearing saturday afternoon and then the 70s take over sunday, monday and tuesday. sue? >> excellent. all right. let's take a look outside. we're going to go to san jose,

santa anita park until more can be learned about the deaths of nearly two dozen horses. 23 horses have died since santa anita's wirn spring meet opened in late december. they recently closed. while the deaths of those horses were being investigated, the track reopens tomorrow. they will host their biggest race on saturday. a bill to help reduce the number of lost dogs and cats. micro chipping. lawmakers say lost animals that have tracking devices stand a 75% better chance of being runited with their owners. >> i could watch that all day. >> i think most shelters do. >> most do especially if you're adopting an animal. they really recommend it. a nevada teenager parted had his xbox for a worthy cause. >> he used the money to buy a

bit of drizzle. the showers increase during the morning and especially during the afternoon. we have some yellow out there. moderate downpours are possible. we're going to keep going thursday night into friday morning. a little bit of a break between systems. here we are at 7:00 friday morning and look what's coming in. more moderate rain late morning to mid-afternoon hours. guess what time the giants game is supposed to start, 1:35, right when it's raining the heaviest. the rain potential and as we head through friday getting up to about a third of an inch and that's actually down from where the models thought it would be yesterday but a third of an inch of rain right in the middle of when the game is supposed to be. they may have to postpone it or if they can push it back several hours. it depends on how well the field that's not covered, like they do the infield, will drain. temperatures that day on friday will be in the upper 50s dropping into the mid-50s. tampa bay we're opening with. sue? let's go back to berkeley.

we have this injury accident at the intersection of adeleine and fairview. so it's a pretty major intersection near the b.a.r.t. station. this happened about midnight last night. there was a pedestrian hit. that pedestrian has been taken to the hospital, but they are still doing an investigation there at that intersection. berkeley police are saying please avoid the area. elsewhere we're pretty quiet out there. just a little busy over the altamont pass and busy over the waldo, too. they had road work heading to the golden gate bridge. that should be picked up within the next few minutes. sue, thank you. speaking of traffic, traffic jams in the bay area are some of the worst in the nation. the explosion in the number of uber and lyft ride shares making the situation worse, but the problem is not just a lot of extra cars. it's also ride share drivers who ignore the law. abc 7 news anchor kristen
