for a proposed navigation center on the embarcadero. >> thousands of dollars being raised on two go fund me pages. one is for the homeless center. the other one against it. abc 7 news reporter jobina fortson is live in the newsroom with the latest. jobina? >> reporter: good morning. these two go fund me accounts caught the attention of mayor london breed. for the first time she said she's willing to reconsider her proposal for the center. the initial plan called for 225 beds and a parking lot. on one page called safe embarcadero more than $80,000 raised by more than 200 people willing to pay for an attorney to fight the navigation center proposal. >> for the program i think the shelters themselves are great but the location of a shelter in this neighborhood does not take into consideration the dynamics of our neighborhood here. >> i do understand that people are upset. they want assurances that it's not going to affect, you know,

graduate and start his life, and it's too soon for any young person to be taken off this earth. >> investigators are trying to figure out how the bridge carried an electrical current. this week our building a better bay area series is focused on the ride sharing industry and drivers face risks on the job every day. now the family of one uber driver is suffering after he was killed on the job. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard reconnected with the loved ones left behind. i know a lot of people are praying for us. >> reporter: sadat barakzi is missing his friend waheed etimad. he worked as a translate for for u.s. troops. during that time he was shot and wounded by the taliban. >> in a sense he's an american hero. he served the american people. >> reporter: etimad started driving for uber. but on february 3rd, he was

killed on the job in a horrific head-on crash on highway 101 in san francisco caused by a wrongway driver. >> my mom remembers my dad e dae day and she cries for him. >> reporter: 14-year-old yahya is stepping up to help his siblings. a go fund me account has now raised $327,000 for family. >> our main purpose is to get them a house. >> reporter: the family is still waiting to hear from uber about what can of financial help they may be entitled to. uber offers additional driver injury protection at a cost of about 4 cents per mile offering survivor benefits for families up to $150,000 if you are killed. it's unclear if waheed etimad was enrolled. >> they have been in contact with us. >> reporter: this was a horribly tragic incident and our hearts continue to be with the driver's

federal court to answer charges in the nationwide college admissions cheating scandal. >> two actresses, felicity huffman and lori loughlin will also go before a judge in boston, accused in operation varsity blues, too. prosecutors say loughlin and her husband paid $500,000 to have their daughters labelled as recruits for the crew team at the university of southern california. all of the parents charged with conspiring with the admissions consultant to get their children admitted to elite schools. b.a.r.t. police chief rojas will step down may 6th. he announced plans to retire yesterday. rojas has led the department for nearly two tu mumultuous years. a man was stabbed at fruitvale. and last year wilson and her sister were stabbed. nia died while her sister survived. >> if things were being done right, there wouldn't be so many

charges. their attorney says the couple's son took his s.a.t. without help and the parents were unaware it had been altered. the daughter was reported as a soccer player is also expected in court today. so is elizabeth and manuel henriquez. elizabeth, her daughter and the test procter gloated about cheating and getting away with it. packaged food entrepreneur peter sartorio of menlo park accused of paying for the college entrance exam cheating scheme for his daughter. a criminal attorney doug rappaport provided legal analysis of this case and says people who plead guilty generally receive lesser sentences. >> my guess is a judge will be sentencing parents somewhere between six months and probably two years depending on the extent of the conduct. >> reporter: prosecutors have not charged any children in the

i can't express my thanks. >> police have shared images of the man accused of beating ibonie. new developments in one of the deadly crashes involving a boeing 737 max jetliner. investigators say ethiopian airlines pilots followed boeing's emergency procedures before their plane crashed, but they could not get the plane to start climbing again after shutting off an automatic flight control system. it promptd them to ground 737 aircraft. boeing is working on a software update. police say nipsey hussle was gunned down after an argument. 29-year-old eric holder is in an l.a. county jail this morning arrest arrested. a woman was later released. surveillance video shows holder talking to hussle outside of his store sunday. police say he returned and then opened fire on hussle. an east bay priest accused

of harming a teenager is charged with 30 counts of lewd acts on a child. father david mendoza-vela made his first appearance yesterday. prosecutors say the alleged abuse took place at st. john's in san lorenzo. he was transferred to corpus christi church in fremont in 2016. mendoza-vela has served as a priest in alameda county since the year 2013. the diocese of oakland is now encouraging anyone who may have been victimized to call the alameda county d.a.'s office. in the east bay a total mess at an oakland school after an act of vandalism. and now the community is stepping in to help pay for the cleanup. teachers and students discovered the damage when they arrived at manzanita yesterday morning. windows broken, they smashed computers and also broke up a toilet. the librarian was one of the first to discover the destruction. >> the hallway was two feet of debris pulled off shelves.

make polk street safer for bicyclists. a bill to allow homeless to sleep in their cars is being pitched and made it out of committee. a recent survey showed one in five community college students in california have been homeless within the past year. how depressing is that. we are spotlighting transportation in the south bay. >> finding parking around school is difficult and a new app is connecting drivers with private parking spaces. about 20,000 san jose state students drive to school but sjsu only has about 5,000 parking spaces on its main campus. that led to the park stash app. think airbnb for parking. it matches commuters with people who rent out their driveways.

>> william also did some yard work for the woman to earn the car for his mom. what a kid. >> oh, amazing. every parent wants someone that thoughtful as a child. a look at thursday, 4:00 in the morning. you can see some drizzle and random showers and they just increase as we head through the morning. and then we have just some random light showers and drizzle for friday morning. friday, heavier rain comes in. guess what time the game is supposed to be, the home opener for the giants on friday. after we look at the rain potential, i'll show you a third of an inch in the san francisco area. the game is supposed to start at 1:35 when it's raining heaviest. i don't know if they can postpone it, how soggy the outfield will be with a third to possibly half an inch or push it off until saturday when it's going to be drier. either way the game is going to be threatened with wet weather.

take a look at the san mateo bridge if you're headed to foster city, the flat section. you're looking at about an 18-minute drive from 880 to 101. let's head down to the south bay, highway 87 past the s.a.p. center. the taillights are headed north to san jose and the airport. ominous looking skies. we do have this accident in milpitas. it is still out there. behind that southbound 880 before highway 237 we have reports of an accident there as well. you make your way to san jose. netflix is sending emails to customers. did you get one? i did this week, reminding you they are increasing their prices and they take effect this month. netflix announced the price hikes in january. the price of the basic plan is going up to $9 a month.

so few that it really doesn't show up on live doppler 7 because it's so close to the ground. a look at san jose at 87. look how much drier than this time yesterday. no rain being reported down there. so we'll keep drizzle in the forecast through 7:00. temperatures, mild once again. 54 to 57. we'll hang out in the upper 50s at the coast most of the day. low to mid-60s for our bay and inland neighborhoods, under a mostly cloudy sky and because it's just so humid out there we could have a random shower or two. i wouldn't plan on getting wet if i was most of you. now tomorrow and friday that's a whole different scene. we'll talk about that coming up. first want to get sue in here and talk about the commute. good morning to you and good morning to you at home. we have some good conditions. those taillights headed to highway 24. further to the north the connector there is a stall blocking that connector ramp backing into fairfield on 80.
