good morning, bay area. let's get up and get going. >> this is abc 7 mornings. it's saturday, april 6th. good morning. thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a preview of the accuweather forecast. lisa argen is tracking the forecast. hi, lisa. >> we have the storm impact scale with us with number one on it here which means light activity, about a tenth o an inch throughout the morning hours, a little breezy and look at the light rain falling in the north bay. we'll go in closer around jenner, dylan beach and marshall west marin highway 1 and also up towards yountville, napa and fairfield. the rest of you not seeing the

rain showers, not likely you will get wet and a whole lot of clouds and 56 in hayward and it is 54 in santa rosa with mid-50s in mountain view. we will go with the showers this morning and the surf are sun coming up featuring more clouds and mid to upper 60s and a dry afternoon and we'll look for a partly cloudy evening, setsing up for a pretty good looking sunday, but can it last? i'll let you know in a few minutes, chris? >> thank you. all lanes of the benicia bridge are back open after a bomb scare. the southbound lanes were shut down for several hours because a man stopped in the middle of the bridge and said he had a bomb. officers took him into custody, but the bomb squad had to examine a suspicious package left in the truck. nothing dangerous was found. all lanes re-opened around 11:30. the suspect is identified as 54-year-old rodney brinker hoff. he is expected to face multiple

charges. repairs are under way on the richmond-san rafael bridge after chunks of concrete fell once again. it happened on the west end of the span. back in early february it was the east end. lu luis luz pena has more. >> sky 7 caught the moment the concrete fell on the eastbound lanes backing up traffic for two hours. >> it's basically reaching the end of its life and they've been patching it for years. >> reporter: he says this bridge needs to be replaced and the cal trans director says that's the plan. >> developing a study for the beach replacement and this year we'll be requesting the sums to do that study. >> a piece of concrete fell and this incident was not the same. they were doing demolition work on some of the sliding plate expansion joint and some of the concretes fell on that barrier system.

>> there were no injuries today and they were planning to avoid this bridge. >> i'm worried of something dropping on me. >> ironically, richmond's mayor joked about it closing on april 15th. >> i didn't mean for it to be a prediction. i meant for it to be a joke. >> caltrans did confirm the bridge is safe for drivers. luz pen a abc 7 news. a teenager is recovering after a car drove into an apartment building in santa rosa. police say a woman left her 16-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old family friend inside the car when she went inside. the car was left running so the 14-year-old boy got into the driver's seat. the girl was outside the car apparently teaching the boy about the car's controls and that's when the boy somehow the car into gear and hit the gas. the girl was dragged until the car dragged into the building and however she is expected to be okay. time now is 6:03. dozens of student, family

attorney just released. the shooting happened early christmas morning. officers misidentified officers in another shooting. she threatened officers after a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle. four officers hit vasquez 14 times after repeatedly warning her to stop. the d.a. found her behavior made the officers after she was the wrong suspect. >> the uber was trying to make a left turn on to sacramento street from mississippi when a black kia hit him. the saps ran from the screen. vallejo police are looking at surveillance video from a nearby home hoping to identify them. the uber driver and passenger were not seriously hurt. as part of our efforts at abc 7 news to build a better bay area, we've been digging into ride share realities this past week. we looked at the advantages and challenges of uber and lift.

those have included a commute challenge on monday as a ride share or cab faster. we looked at uber and lyft's safety policies and how some cities including san francisco are working to accommodate the influx in ride sharing. we also got a first-hand look at what it's leak to be a driver. wayne freedman, this is what happened. >> take a look at our car. we rented it from lyft and now we're going to hit the streets of san francisco. so welcome to the fray. it's slow moving much of the time on the big city. you are watching the man casting himself to the whims of passengers he'll know only on a first-name bizziasis, but not f long. >> you must be amanda. >> yes. >> you're karen. >> and here's hamid who was happy to talk as long as we didn't show his face. >> we know how to get to the airport.

we've done this before, but never professionally. >> what's the feature story? >> i just want to know what it's like to be a lyft driver. >> oh. >> so i signed up. it's not that hard to sign up. it is all online and answer a few questions and give them a license number, social security. the hardest part for me was figuring out what picture to use. >> would you ride with that man? >> no. >> are you trained to be a slightly scary picture? >> a scary picture might be appropriate when dealing with downtown traffic. >> we'll make another right on harrison. >> okay. shush your mouth. >> one learns quickly out here that civilians rarely give rideshare drivers any kind of break. are you kidding? i'm working, man! >> the lyft app is actually pretty simple and effective. it connects you with passengers and shows you the best route for getting them where they want to go and you have to -- john. we're on a first-name basis.

at disneyland resort good morning, everyone. time right now is 6:14 and we're taking a live shot along the embarcadero. you can see it's windy out there with that flag flapping around. we do have some changes in the forecast. we'll get a check of the full accuweather report lisa argen coming up in just a little bit, but first. a mother and her young son have major injuries after three dog attacked them in the backyard of a vallejo home. officers arrived to look ut drive last night to find the pit bull ter dwreriers attacking th victims. police say the dogs were under the victim's care at the time. the woman and the boy were taken to a trauma center. solano county animal control seized the animals. >> for the second year in a row, california ranks number one in the country for dog-related

injury claims. state farm claims $18 million for dog bite claims last year. experts say never leave a baby or small child alone with the dog even if it's a family pet. walk your dog on a leash and if a stranger wants to pet your dog make sure the dog is comfortable. in the east bay the ground is sinking in downtown moraga and it's not the first time and the problem is near the ream valley shopping center. this was the view from drone view 7 back in 2016. a sink hole in the same area swallowed an entire intersection and traffic signal. repairs three years ago cost nearly $3 million. officials say it could cost as much as three times as much now. the town needs storm drain funds to deal with the storm drain system or the system is aging and it's at 60 years old. things are failing now. >> if the depression does grow, the problem could affect the entire storm drain system. time now is 6:15 and taking a live look at san jose.

online food, travel and entertainment website thrillist says it may be one of the most underappreciated cities in the country. abc 7 news reporteder amanda del castillo has the story. >> reporter: silicon valley, the global center for tech and innovation. across the country, most associate the high-tech hub with another booming city. >> san francisco is the place they know. to get technical about the tech capital it's san jose. travel and entertainment website, thrillist touted san jose as one of the most underappreciated cities in north america. >> i agree with it. >> residents note the city's value and the mystique of the house and the details and murals across downtown san jose and the bold installations at the institute of contemporary art and the culture. >> we have the largest vietnamese population right outside of vietnam. that's huge. >> tough to miss japan town and other international enclaves around the city. >> you almost don't have to leave country. you can get everything you want

area is seeing rain and lisa argen is tracking the forecast. hi, lisa. >> good morning to you. we're looking at the north bay and in san francisco. live doppler 7 showing you the rain in lima this morning. if you're headed out to the coast you will definitely run into some wet weather? slick roads and also out towards fairfield. elsewhere, not a whole lot happening, but we are looking at the precip offshore and this will continue to rotate in throughout the morning hours and as far south as the santa cruz mountains and we do dry out in the latter part of the afternoon and check out the eastern pacific and we still have plenty of clouds and this mid-latitude flow allowing for higher relative humidity and lots of clouds out there and moisture at times. in the south bay, we're in the mid 50s with sunnyvale and cupertino. not much change elsewhere along the bay with the low 50s and lafayette and el cerrito. as we look at san jose, we could

see the clouds stacked up and showers right through 12:00 and this afternoon with the dry conditions and not a whole lot of sun out there and it will be a lot of clouds and tomorrow looking at a bit more sun and especially for the north bay and our next system arrives monday night very weak into tuesday. >> beach hazard statement from sonoma all of the way down to santa cruz with 6 foot heights down around monterey and seven feet in san francisco. as we look at our high temperatures tomorrow we bring out a little sun and the temperatures go up into the low 70s for concord and livermore. 66 in rich mopd and 65 in santa rosa. for monday, a little bit of rain headed your way and cooling things off into the 60s and we are still mild in the east bay and south bay and behind that system it's cooler, it's breezier and we'll look for numbers in the low 60s to perhaps near 70 degrees as we go

through the morning hours and here is the rain. it's light and along the coast in the shoreline in the north bay. not likely reaching the inland valleys and perhaps an oakland through san jose into the early afternoon. amounts, as we talked about, very light about a couple of hundreds to 0.04 in hayward if anything at all. looking at temperatures in the mid-60s in oakland and 64 in napa and 67 in palo alto. we need a big ridge of high pressure to dry us out and it doesn't look like it will happen and we'll have a brief break into tomorrow with a little bit more sunshine. so in san francisco, waking up to 50s and cloud cover tomorrow for the rock 'n' roll marathon series and 11:00 near 60 degrees and here's the accuweather seven-day forecast with those nuisance showers in the morning hours mainly along the coast and the coastal hills and the north

wall. the president greeted by protesters with the call to shut down the entire border with mexico. trump walking back that threat. now saying if mexico doesn't stop the flow of migrants or illegal drugs a year from now he can shut the border. >> we will shut it down if we have to and we'll tariff the cars coming if we have to. >> reporter: while officials say the number of undocumented migrants could swell to 1 million by the end of the year. mexico has ramped up their enforcement efforts. >> mexico's been doing a great job. i want to thank the president of mexico. >> mexico saying there's been no change in policy. it was tied to pressure he was facing from business groups and fellow republicans. >> closing down the border would have catastrophic, economic impact on our country. >> reporter: but president trump said national security should come before trade. he is putting a tear identify mexican-made cars coming into the u.s. if the border situation

doesn't improve. as trump arrived in calexico to tour the fencing that is taller and stronger than the one before it. those on the u.s. side say the only thing they want is to talk to the president about the real isues they are facing. >> we will not talk about a fake crisis. we will talk about what we need here. >> >> a tattoo shop is offering a special deal with all of the money going to one of his favorite charities. the rapper was murdered last weekend and police say he got into a fight with eric holder outside of hussle's store on friday holder came back with a gun and pleading not guilty to murder charges. holder is being held on $5 million bail. boeing is cutting back production on the 737 max and the move is only temporary. boeing says it will reduce the output from 52 to 42 planes

every month. the 737 max is being scrutinized after more than 300 people died in two crashes. a preliminary report of last month's crash in ethiopia appeared to point to a possible problem with the plane's anti-stall system. all of boeing's 737 max jets have been grounded since that crash. the coast guard has seized more than 7 tons of cocaine withed group based in alameda. six suspected smuggling vessels were intercepted in international waters off the coast of mexico and central and south america. they were off loaded in san diego yesterday. the drugs are worth more than $190 million. the operation is part of the coast guard strategy that focuses onning someli smuggling the eastern pacific and caribbean. one county is suing the state to tristrike down deliberations. the cities argue the rule conflicts with another one that

gives them control over how they choose to deal with legal marijuana. the local communities suing are santa cruz county, vacaville and the city of san pablo. they've come up with a solution to ease downtown traffic. officials there have been quietly piloting a free valet service and so far it's been a success. >> in mountain view this isn't your ordinary downtown parking lot. >> good morning, ma'am. free valet service for you. this has been great. they take the car and it doesn't cost anything and it's been real easy for us. >> a pilot program now under way offering free valet during peak hours. dozens of drivers making use of the city-provided service on villa and franklin. on average, 30% of terrific are people circling for parking and using existing space without having to create additional infrastructure. >> for example, a restriking of

a parking lot or building a parking structure because that takes time and coordination where this program they've been able to ramp up with a short amount of time. >> the chamber of commerce says the program has been beneficial for everyone. >> the more people that have the opportunity to come downtown and do their shopping or have a drink, get some food, bring your family is better for us as a community. >> funded by the downtown parking district, the pilot operates between 11:00 in the morning and tuesday through saturday. this june, the program will expand starting at 11:00 and go until 10:00 at night on the same days. >> i look for two or three different parking spots and went bu two separate lots and this has been my savior so far. >> a potential solution for other bay area cities to consider. >> i think any pilot program like this is a great experiment to try to find better ways to

are taking a life look outside from the emreville camera pointing at the bay bridge this morning and we are off to a dreary start throughout the bay area. we'll get a check of the full accuweather report and lisa will let us know when we can expect a break in the rain coming up. first, a herd of goats wandered on to private property on los altos hill. and that was the santa clara property. the goat-to guys. it estimates 50 goats were roaming in the area thursday night and with the help of animal control and the sheepdog they were able to herd the goats back to their owner. a rare sighting in monterey bay. these are killer whales. the last confirmed sighting was in 2011. they're usually seen in pugit sound in washington and usually people in the seattle area were wondering why so many were missing. so here's answer. they've been hanging out here in monterey bay. time now is 6:39.
