resignation of kirstjen nielsen. >> we're hearing that the president held nielsen personally responsible in the sharp increase of migrants crosses the border. >> reporter: good morning, kenneth. good morning, stephanie. secretary nielsen was by the president's side on frizz when he visited the california/mexico border. when she returned to the nation's capital, she was out of a job. this morning, a shakeup. kirsten neels season out. two days after nielsen joined him op a visit to the border. he then went on to tweet, quote, more apprehensions, captures at the sourp border than in my years. border patrol is amazing. country is full. nielsen met with the president sunday to does a path forward and ended up turning in her resignation. appointed in 2017, her tenure

we're learning more about the man accused of assaulting bret "the hitman" hart. he was tackled there giving his hall of fame acceptance speech there in brooklyn. hart is okay. the suspect, jachry madsen is an aspiring mixed martial arts fighter. motel 6 won't be leaving the light on for immigration agents without a warrant. the low cost chain was accused by the state of washington of giving its guest list to immigration agents. motel 6 settled that lawsuit for

devastating scene out of phoenix. that fire truck, you see it there, ended up on its side after colliding with a pickup truck. two all three were killed. three firefighters were also injured. they were rushing to the scene of a fire at the time. and we turn now to an abc news exclusive. a south carolina family is demanding answers nearly two weeks after the death of their 10-year-old girl. >> the fifth grader died after fighting with a classmate. but no one has said why. and her loved ones are growing more frustrated. here's zachary kiesch. >> reporter: the mother of the 10-year-old south carolina girl who died after an altercation in her classroom speaking out for the first time. >> i had to sleep by my baby the night before she passed. that was the hardest thing i ever had to do in my life. it was just hard. raniya was involved in a fight with another fifth grade girl. raniya's condition so severe,

she was unresponsive when she was taken to a charleston hospital, where she died two days later. what did the nurse say. >> she said, i want to let you know raniya been in an accident today. a fight. is she okay? yeah, she's okay. she phrased it as she's okay. if you want to come up here. she's complaining about disneyness and headache. >> reporter: the exact call use the little girl's death are unclear. there was a physical altercation? >> yes, this was a fight in between them. >> reporter: her family and concerned parents have raised questions about the way the independence dent was handled. >> the other kids said that she was on her phone. >> the school failed. they don't want to admit. they don't want to own up to what is going on right now. but you can't just take everything and sweep it beneath the rug. you're talking about a 10-year-old girl. >> reporter: the school district saying we realize and appreciate

>> families from across the los altos school district are protesting the relocation of a middle school. reporter jobina fortson is live for us there at the school with more on the heated debate. jobina? >> reporter: good morning, jessica and reggie. a human chain walkout is planned right here for 8:00 this morning. according to the parents that have organized this protest roughly 5,000 people in los altos have signed a petition. they're reporting that millions of dollars has been spent on legal battles and passionate negotiations have gone on for a decade over this. los altos school district and bullis charter school allowing the school to have its own facility here and relocate hundreds of students attending egan junior high school in about four years. two schools share the same
