outside where some of us are seeing fog this morning. more rain is on the way. it's monday, april 8. i have a question for mike nicco, has it rained every week since the start of the year, mike? >> has to be. >> i think one stretch we went six, almost seven days. >> wow. >> i think that happened maybe in february and again last month. i'll give you an answer coming up. >> we have fog as you saw there. one-mile visibility. socked in at the golden gate. look as it is slowly making its way blik a blob of clouds down the east bay shoreline and across san francisco from the coast and through the san bruno gap. temperatures mid to upper 50s. we jump into the upper 60s away from the coast at noon. mostly cloudy and showers are possible from 4:00 to 7:00

especially in the north bay. the rest of us most likely after the sun sets. let's talk about the commute and welcome alexis back. i have two crashes to talk about right now. one of those in the east bay here, westbound weav cfied more information. three vehicles involved total. we do have some injuries and the two left lanes of the main line are blocked. that i here to southbound 880 we do still have at least one lane blocked and that is a two-car collision so that is slow on 880 and blacking up on 238 if you're coming from castro valley as well. no problems here, just a quick look at the san mateo bridge westbound 92 filling in, starting to see some brake lights pass the toll plaza. i do have an update on ace 1. i'll talk more about that up next. a 4-year-old child was found wandering overnight. >> the search is on for the child's parents. the sheriff's office says the 4-year-old was found wandering

the streets on santa rosa and east robles avenue just outside santa rosa. the child described as hispanic with a buzz haircut and brown eyes, wearing a light blue shirt and dark gray pants. >> i'm going to interrupt because -- the child has been reunited with his parents. no longer any need to be on the lookout for them. we are happy to report that. >> great. that is good news. >> now we need to find out how he got on the street. right now he is safe. a stanford student has been expell expelled. >> amy hollyfield with what led to the university's decision. amy? >> reporter: jessica, the university says this student is no longer on campus and her credits have been vacated. the university says the student

was expelled because she faked her sailing credentials. after she was admitted there was a $500,000 contribution made to the sailing program through the coach. that coach has pleaded guilty in the scandal to one count of racketeering. he has been fired from stanford. university officials say this student, they have not released her name, she has been expelled. she is the only one involved in operation varsity blues. they say no current or newly accepted students are associated with the admissions scandal. the university also says it has made and is making changes in response t scaal and rebuilding pele's trust.reporting live from stanf amyhollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. we have much more on the college admissions scandal on our website. you can find out about the bay area parents facing charges.

developing news out of the south bay. police investigating a shooting that injured a man in san jose, happened just after 2:00 yesterday afternoon on russo drive and blossom hill road. officers arrived but did not find a victim. a short time later police say a man showed up at a hospital with at least one gunshot wound. he is expected to be okay. no suspects have yet been identified. happening tonight, the east bay says good-bye to a beloved priest. the burial mass for reverend james matthews, known as father jay, will be held at 7:00 p.m. at cathedral of christ the light in oakland. thousands of people gathered in oakland to honor father jay's legacy yesterday. in 1974 he became the first african-american ordained priest in northern california. >> father jay was the first priest i ever knew who not only valued our african culture and heritage, but he promoted it.

>> father jay was a pastor at st. benedict church before he took over as rector of the cathedral of christ the light in oakland. he died of an apparent heart attack on march 30th. he'll be interred tomorrow at st. joseph's cemetery in san pablo. now to the homeland security shake-up. u.s. customs and border protection kevin mcaleenan will take over for now. that follows kirstjen nielsen's abrupt resignation. a source tells abc news nielsen met with the president to discuss a path forward and ended up submitting her resignation. the president was said to be frustrated with her for not doing enough to curb the number crossing into the u.s. in a related note governor gavin newsom is in el salvador. >> he plans to learn about what drives people to migrate to the united states. his wife, jennifer, tweeted for their first stop they paid respects to st. oscar romero as

a reminder of their purpose, a desire for peace. governor newsom tweeted a proverb from the patron saint. he will meet with el salvador's elected leaders, marking the first time a sitting california governor has visited central america. they say it provides a political opportunity. >> for the candidates in 2020 and beyond want to frame themselves as caring, right, and so going and making those sort of photo opportunities and carving that time out of your busy schedule is a way to show that you care. >> a nonprofit organization is paying for the four-day trip. new at 6:00, san francisco city officials are reportedly supporting an extension for the needle exchange program. the program is credited with reducing the spread of hiv and hepatitis c. the contract extension is seven years and would cost more than

we're back at 6:15. a scary crash in chicago over the week. you're going to see here a car crashes right into that other two cars in the inhi wngt o surveillance. now officials say this crash happened because the driver in that car was drunk. in fact, the driver had a blood alcohol level two times eeglimit. luckily the officers weren't seriously hurt in this crash. a controversial new class at the university of kansas is igniting debate on campus and

beyond. it's called angry white male studies. the class charts, quote, the rise of anger in white men in america since the 1950s. the course will look at how dominant and subordinate masculinity is connected to modern movements of women, people of color and the lgbtq community. >> there's some value into looking things from intersectionalist view. >> creating dialogue is something we need to have, like dialogue is important, dialogue needs to be had. >> but one local congressman believes this course may divide students and create a hostile campus environment based on gender. >> well, it's an exchange of ideas on college campuses. there you go. if you haven't filed your yet, you have one week to do it. many people know how they want to spend their tax refund although i have questions. >> that deadline coming up

minutes. you're in recovery mode from an earlier crash. westbound 80 across the bay bridge in the yellow at 12 minutes. southbound 101 san francisco to sfo. you're holding on to the green at ten minutes. mass transit, i have an update here for ace 1. there was a vehicle on the tracks. that vehicle has been moved. the track inspector says everything is fine so ace 1 on the move without any restrictions there, getting out of the livermore area finally. they have about a 45-minute delay. they should be arriving in pleasanton shortly. ace 3 not impacted. they are running on time. thanks, alexis. the southern border than in many years. border patrol is amazing. country is full. a source tells abc news nielsen met with the president sunday to discuss a path forward and ended up turning in her resignation. her tenure was riddled with controversy and clashes with the president. most notably nielsen was highly criticized for carrying out the administration's zero tolerance policy which separated thousands of migrant children from their families. >> the system is full. can't take you anymore. >> reporter: sources tell abc news that trump was frustrated with nielsen for not doing more to curb the number of central american families crossing into the u.s. in march u.s. customs and border protection commissioner kevin mcaleenan spoke of the rise in apprehensions. >> these numbers reflect the highest level of illegal apprehensions of any february in over a decade. >> reporter: and just yesteray president trump tapped mcaleenan as the acting head of the

this heated debate. jobina? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and jessica. we know the district was hoping for a positive compromise here, but that is not what's happening amount human chain walkout is planned for here at the school at 8:00 this morning. to bring you up to speed of what's happening here. according to parents leading the protest, roughly 5,000 people in los altos signed a petition against closing and relocating egan junior high school. "the mercury news" reporting the school district and bullis charter school reached a tentative agreement that spans over ten years and allows bullis to have its own facility here and relocate hundreds of students currently attending egan junior high to a new facility in about four years. bullis would have to cap enrollment to roughly 1,100 between the years of 2023 and 2033 under the agreement. the two schools currently share the same campus. egan students would move to a planned building at the san antonio shopping center in downtown mountain view.

the hope is to have the plans finalized for both schools by the end of the month. both school boards have a meeting tonight for public comment. anyone that wants to have their voice heard on this should be attending or make sure you get that out there. reporting live, jobina fortson, abc 7 news. thank you, jobina. jury selection is scheduled in the ghostship warehouse fire. at least 640 prospective jurors will be available for vetting during the selection process. the prosecution and defense will each have 20 opportunities to remove a juror without giving a reason. defendants derick almena and max harris are charged with 36 counts each of involuntary manslaughter for deaths at the warehouse. lawyers claim the macaathe deadly fire because city inspectors, they say, knew about conditions at the warehouse. the man charged with killing a newman police officer in december is scheduled to return to court today in modesto. the attorney for mendoza is expected to present details about his client's mental

competency evaluation. the defense order that had evaluation in january. mendoza is accused of shooting and killing police corporal singh during a traffic stop. this morning we're learning about a crash that killed a young man and badly injured his girlfriend in so mo ma county. the truck they were in went off a dirt road near fort ross. a person died after the vehicle rolled more than 400 feet down a ravine. his girlfriend broke her leg but she managed to crawl up the embankment and waited for help. the wreck wasn't discovered until 12 hours later. it is unclear what caused the crash but it was raining and foggy at the time. in the east bay a series of side shows sprung up over the weekend. here is video from twitter that shows a large crowd gathering to watch people spin their cars. the sideshow blocked traffic at 42nd avenue and international boulevard in oakland late yesterday. opd quickly responded to break up the sideshow, but the drivers and the crowd scattered and

moved the sideshow to other streets. police made no arrests. it's the end of an era for the warriors. >> the team just played their final regular season home game at oracle arena in oakland. >> and the final regular season seconds of 47 years in this incredible building. >> yeah, what a moment. the team picked the we believe jerseys to pay homage to the 2006-2007 team that pulled off one of the greatest upsets in nba history against dallas. fans tell us saying good-bye to oracle is bittersweet. >> time brings about change. it'sot we'll go along with it. we'll go along with it and support them. i love them. >> there will still be more games at oracle starting with the first round of the playoffs. the team moves to san francisco next season.

>> just a week. >> i add the weekends, too. welcome back. we have had a few crashes but good news. a long-term blocking collision just cleared. this was on southbound 880. i you mentioned it. a crash blocking a slow lane and that did clear from the lanes. that backup starting to look better on southbound 880, still lingering on 238 coming from 580 and castro valley. hopefully that will start to improve. should be improving. it doesn't look much better here. north of the 24 sprit right around north main reports of a has been filed as well. that one no longer on the board and that is not blocking the slow lane any longer. heavy volumes through that stretch. westbound 80 to the maze still trying to bounce back from an earlier crash. 32 minutes for you. about a 15-minute drive westbound across the bay bridge and some fog settling in along that commute and san francisco to sfo.

a 1 on our scale starting tonight through tomorrow morning with a chance of slight showers. seasonal and dry. today 70s, east bay valleys, south bay from fremont southward. low 60s along the coast and mid to upper 60s elsewhere like the north bay but notice the yellows and oranges. you have the best chance during the daylight hours. notice overnight, though. we don't see much in the way of rain. quick moving, not a lot of rain producing cold front. low to mid-50s forekive in the morning, notice the cloud deck is broken. you'll need theor most of the day except for the north bay. here we are at noon. you can see light to moderate showers. northwest sonoma and up to mendocino county. and those pretty much stay to the north. by 5:00 we have some random, light showers. notice they pick up a little bit during the evening hours and overnight will be a random shower or two.
