g tacked.y ty,ay o abc7 news. in the east bay, a 73-year-old man died in a house fire in oakland. the fire broke out about 5:45 this morning at a two-story victorian home near 16th and inden streets. near 16th and when firefighters arrived a the scene, they saw flames shooting out of a window on the second floor. the victim was later found dead in an upstairs room. five other people were able to get out safely. a former "playboy" model accused of killing a salinas psychiatrist was in a stockton courtroom today for an extradition hearing. kelsey turner will be sent to las vegas by friday. turner is accused of killing thomas brouchd. today's hearing had been delayed because she is apparently pregnant. ifts unclear how they knew each

bart's general manager wants to add 19 new police officer positions. in addition, the agency says it is working on combatting evaders by retrofitting fare gates with higher railings and alarms. turning to our weather because, you guessed it, more rain is on the way this week. >> after the sunny day. you're looking live at our mount tam and exploratorium towercams are. spencer christian is here with the forecast. say it ain't so. >> it's only a little bit of rain that, you don't have to worry about it. here is a look at live doppler 7. we have light, very light scours mainly into sonoma county. you see the areas where it's a little bit damp, but these showers, again, are pretty light. the satellite composite shows a cold front sweeping down from our northwest. that's what's pushing the showers into our area. the storm ranks one on the storm impact scale, a storm of light intensi intensity. so for tonight and early early tomorrow morning, we may see a few more scattered light showers. less than a tenth of an inch in most areas and then breezy. going into the evening hours,

we'll see a couple more batches of light showers moving not only into the north bay, but the peninsula coastline as well. during the overnight hours, we'll see the showers tapering off, giving hope for dry pavement for morning commuters. i'll give you a closer look at that, and a dryer week ahead in a few minutes. dan and ama? >> thank you so much, spencer. now to breaking news out of pictures from where there has been a triple shooting. you see the emergency responders near 98 avenue on e street. the police activity is centered at an auto shop called best tires and auto repair. all police are saying is that it is an active scene. you can see them there. there is no word yet on if will is a search for a suspect or if anyone is in custody, and police haven't released information on how badly those victims were hurt. the uc berkeley mascot of course is the bears. but these days students are talking about a much smaller animal. >> mice have become a big problem at stern hall on campus.

had reached down to plug in my phone, i actually touched the mousetrap with the dead mouse in it. >> what went through your head? >> i was disgusted. >> on a university web group, the roommates met other students who also complained to the university about the mouse, but not this time at stern hall, also foothill hall. >> had to get rid of them myself because it was getting really bad. there were mouse crawling up my curtains, snacking away on my own snacks. >> han is paying more than $17,000 a year for her dorm, yet opted for sleeping in another building to avoid the mice. >> they were literally everywhere. i could not go to my room for so long because i was terrified. sometimes my friend's room. but eventually i gave up and decided i'm going to have to live in this mouse hole. >> in a statement to berkeley responded, we understand how distressing that can be. we're working to address this issue and pest control are treating, setting traps, sealing

points of entry and cleaning impacted areas. several students that we spoke to today said that mice are not only the problem in this building. they also said that mold is covering several areas in this hall. live here in berkeley, luz pena, abc7 news. >> luz, have any students gotten sick because of this? >> that's a great question, dan. we did speak to a student that said yeah, mice are not the issue why some of theme feel they're getting sick. mold is the main issue we're going to be talking about at 6:00 p.m. one of the students we spoke to did not want to be on camera, but did tell us she has been going to several doctors and getting blood work done to see why she has been feeling sick for several months and believes the mold is the reason. >> mold is no joke. thanks, luz, very much. heated public hearings are expected tonight over a tentative agreement to relocate a los altos junior high school. parents and students staged a protest this morning outside egan junior high on portola

apiece. the company hopes to raise $1.5 billion. pinterest is expected to start trading on the stock exchange under the symbol pins, p pins, p later this month. and here to talk with us about the pinterest ipo, ian, thanks for coming in. >> i hope you find it pinteresting. >> very good. all right. we're out of time! [ laughter ] what can you tell us about that price range? the ipo is valued below its previous priced market value. whats the deal? >> it's hard to tell what's going on, right? they're going to be going on what's called a road show where they're going to talk to a lot of potential investors on wall street and what not. we'll probably hear a little bit about it then. but pinterest has always been this company that has flown under the radar a little bit. you think of facebook and twitter and all of these companies that have their ceos on the glossy magazine covers. pinterest doesn't play that

game. they're very quiet. they stay subdued. in a lot of way, this is not surprising. they're trying to make a big blowout start for their time on wall street, and maybe the shares will go up. maybe they'll go down. but they're not being aggressive with their pricing. >> okay. pinterest, like a lot of these companies, are really losing money. lift last week, it's never made any money. how is that attractive to investors? what's the lure that this money, this infusion of cash will turn it around? >> the bet is the future, right? it's always about what's going to happen at some point down the line. that's what everyone said when amazon was losing money left and right. eventually it will make money. facebook will take a while. twitter eventually made money. so that's part of the bet here. what's interesting about pinterest is they're losing a lot less money than people like lyft or uber. we're talking about hundreds of millions being lost by them. pinterest only lost a little less than 100 last year, and it actually is less than they lost the year before. so they're showing that they're growing the number of users they have, and they're also paring

back losses. in a lot of ways, this is a very not typical ipo from the tech industry. >> it's been quiet for a number of years in terms of the ipo frenzy that we had many years ago, and now it's picking back up again. what's going on? what in the landscape has changed? >> a lot of it has been watching people like lyft go public. and the sense that, well, maybe there is a fervor out there for tech. it's all an expectations game. so future them, if pinterest can go public, and they can get that money from investors, and they can also kind of have a good debut on the stock exchange, which of course has its own politics and everything, then things are good for them. you don't want to do it when things are bad, when the economy pours or whatever else, right now things are good. the economy is going strong. we've seen numbers coming out of stuff like the reports of unemployment and all that are positive. so it's a good time for them to do this if they're going do it. >> there has been sort of an uptick in the number of ipos.

lyft last week, it may ultimately be a successful initial public offering. >> they dipped below their number right now,willay. buwetmohs. expt from uber's initial public offering? >> so far it look likes it's going to be the largest in history. $120 billion evaluation, compared to pinterest which is only 11, it's a whole different ball game. trust me, when uber starts going ipo, you're going to hear about it on front pages everywhere. this is one of the largest companies to do something like this. it's going to be fascinating to see whether wall street is willing to gobble up shares from a company that has been losing a lot of money, but promises to be the future of how we transport. >> kind of a bellwether. >> although it's pretty late to the game. that's tech in general. all these tech companies have been waiting a decade to go public. it's reallying the this time. >> thanks very much, ian. >> sure. >> always great to have you was. and you were pinteresting.

changing our lives every day. >> chang says she's seen some progress in the tech industry in the year since her book came out thanks in part to the me too movement. but she says bringing more women into the tech industry will take time. and once it does, women must be among those making key decisions. >> interesting book. okay. let's turn our attention to the weather forecast. after a sparkling day today and yesterday, a little change. >> spencer here with the latest. >> the sparkle has diminished a bit. it will be back. we have mainly cloudy skies developing right now, and some light widely scattered showers up in the north bay. not amounting to much yet. but they are present. here is a live view of clouds over san jose, like you can almost reach out and touch them they look so close. here is look at current temperature readings. 66 degrees in san francisco. oakland, 69. low 70s at mountain view, san jose and morgan hill. and 63 at half moon bay. this is the view from emeryville.

looking at dark clouds getting lower over the bay. napa 65. petaluma, 62. 69 at livermore. and we see low clouds descending on the golden gate, and these are our forecast features. we'll see spotty light showers overnight into the very early morning hours. it will be mostly sunny and breezy the next few days, once these clouds move out midday tomorrow, and this dry pattern that we're moving into will last us through the weekend. but the approaching system, such as it is, ranks 1 on the storm impact scale. a storm of light intensity. it will produce light scattered showers tonight and in the early morning hours, less than a tenth of an inch for most areas. it's going to become breezy. quite windy in some spots tomorrow behind the frontal system that's sweeping through. overnight lows under breezy aiy upper upper valleys. here is the forecast animation taking us into the evening hours. 7:30 we'll see the front beginning to sweep down into northern sonoma county. it will start to push farther

south. it will continue pushing farther south in the late night hours. and behind that we get a blast of strong gusty wind. ahead of the front there will be light scattered showers. perhaps a few wet spots on the roadways in the early morning hours as commuters venture out. but we don't expect any widespread rainfall at this time. we will be drying out as the morning commute begins. and it will get mostly sunny and windy by afternoon. here is a look at the wind gust animation. 5:00 tomorrow morning as the commute gets under way, it will be breezy in most spots. downright windy on the coastline where gusts will exceed 25 miles per hour. as we get into the afternoon and evening showers, look for gusts over 40 miles per hour on the coast and around the bay and other inland location, gusts between 20 and 30 miles per hour. highs tomorrow will be generally in the low to mid 60s to the coast. mid to upper 60s around the bay shoreline and upper 60s to about 70 degrees in our inland areas, and here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. so we have some sparkle in the forecast tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, even saturday, we'll see sunny skies, dry

breaking news. another democrat has thrown his hat into the ring for president. congressman eric swalwell, who represents much of the eastern san francisco bay area made that

announcement today. he's launched this website with the slogan, go big, be bold and do good. swalwell is the 18th democrat to join the crowded primary field. astronauts aboard the international space station completed their third spacewalk in less than three weeks nasa astronaut mclane and canadian david st. jock installed new cabling that will provide a backup power circuit for the station's robot arm and expand wireless communications. the next spacewalk will be next month by two russians on board. >> very good. back here on earth, actor ryan reynolds is adding game show producer to his resume. he is involved in a new abc show called "don't." each episode will feature one family taking on physical and mental challenges for a cash prize. but during each challenge, the family will be told something like don't slip or or don't scream. an air date for the show has not been announced but it looks like it will be fun.

afghanistan. abc world news will have all the details on the victims, including three others wounded. that's coming up at 5:30. there is new information in the college admissions scandal. 13 parents and one university athletic coach will plead guilty to charges. among the parents, actress felicity huffman, who in a statement today said she has, quote, deep regret and shame. abc7 news i-team melanie woodrow has been covering the story since the beginning and is live in the newsroom with the latest on the bay area parents also pleading guilty. melanie? >> ama, of those parents who intend to plead guilty, five of them are from the bay area. parents charged with paying big bucks to help their children lie and cheat their way into top universities, now admitting their guilty. bruce and davina isackson of hillsboro intend to plead guilty to commit mail fraud. they paid rick singer their daughter lauren was a

purported ucla soccer recruit. bruce isackson will plead guilty to one count of moneylaundering conspiracy and one count of conspiracy to defraud the irs after taking a tax deduction for the bribe. in a statement writing our duty as parents was to set a good example for our children, and instead we have harmed and embarrassed them by our misguided decisions. augustine of san francisco also pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. a purporte wri word would get meant by marjie clapper of face? pleading guilty to commit mail fraud. she paid $15,000 for the college entrance exam cheating scheme. peter sartorio pleading guilty to mail fraud. he paid $15,000 for the college entrance cheating squeal for his

daughter. actress felicity huffman pleading guilty to the same charges. in a statement writing, quote, my daughter knew absolutely nothing about my actions, and in my misguided and profoundly wrong way i have betrayed her. michael center, the former head coach at the university of texas austin will also plead guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. in the newsroom for the i-team, melanie woodrow, abc7 news. >> melanie, what kind of sentences can we be talking about for these parents? >> ama, the maximum is quite a bit. conspiracy to commit mail fraud, honest services mail fraud and conspiracy to commit moneylaundering all have a max of 20 years in prison along with three years of supervised release. conspiracy to defraud the united states, that's that isackson extra charge has a max of five of the charges also carry fines ranging from 250 to $500,000. all of that being said, it's not likely that these parents will get those max sentences.

carrying passports and a cash i hotel rooms. she is charged with making false statements to a federal officer and entering a restricted area. a southern california woman who was kidnapped while on a safari in africa has been freed, but just how is a mystery. an official with wild frontiers uganda safaris says a ransom was paid to win the release of kim endicott of costa mesa she and her partner were kidnapped an taken across the border to congo. the police said no ransom was paid for endicott, who is expected to be turned over to the u.s. ambassador today. investigators near seattle are looking at surveillance video today to figure out it happened during the evening rush hour friday in tukwila. one of the poles impaled this suv, trapping a couple inside. tom and linda cook were rushed to the hospital with fortunately just cuts and bruises.

that seems wasteful. so this little piece here, one of the first things we noticed is there is this little knock on bottom. it's the letter p. and the p stands for philadelphia, because this is where it was made. and there are only 19 surviving pieces from this factory up until this point. they are chamber pots. they are literally the pots that you would do your business in the middle of the night. >> these are some knives that we found under here, and the handles are actually scrim shaw bone. >> there is they're the middle. there is air in that air bubble that is from the 1700s, because this was hand blown. our options are find a private collector or even a museum who mighnt t pch some of our artifacts, or we could potentially donate some of our artifacts to a museum and get a tax break.
