>> reporter: that's right. this is stern hall where several students have told us they have seen, touch and disposed of several mice this school year. >> i don't hear anything right now. >> reporter: this freshman is not trying to communicate with her next door neighbor. >> in the walls. you hear little russe rustling. >> there were two behind my bed. there was another one behind her desk. four dead mice we had in the room. we had that live mouse in the trash can. others probably scampering around. >> reporter: these roommates reported the first incident to the university who placed traps several days after the first report. >> another mouse trap that had gone off that i did not know was right next to my bed and reached down to plug in my phone, i actually touched the mouse trap with the dead mouse in it.

i was disgusted. >> reporter: we contacted a university official who confirmed mouse problems are not isolated to stern hall but the building located behind it also. in a statement, uc berkeley said, we understand how distr s distressing that can be. we're working to address this issue. staff are treating, setting traps, sealing points of entry and cleaning impacted areas. mice are not the only problem. this picture at the entrance of the hall shows ants in the laundry room where there are several broken washers. this student who did not want to be identified said, she's been sick for several months and showed the mold under her bed, window and drapes. others are opting to move out. >> sometimes my friends -- i gave up and decided i will have are ve here. wondering, students pay over $17,000 to live here. some tell us they believe it's

anxious to hear about a ten-year plan that was in the process for 2 1/2 years. these students were disappointed. they are members of the student homeless alliance. the group has been pressuring the university to help homeless students, estimated to include 13% of students, in the california state university system. the president mentioned the housing problem in remarks. we asked her where it ranks in her priorities. >> clearly, this is right up there with addressing the well-being of students. they can't get a good education if they are stressed thinking about where they will be every night. >> the top third of your priorities? >> students are the top. that's part of students. it's right up there. >> reporter: the president said a student food pantry will open soon. however, critics say san jose state is slow with short-term solutions compared to cal state campuses where dorm rooms are available to homeless students on a short-term basis. >> lack of communication. lack of initiative. i think it's just a lack of -- just simply understanding that

cars participated in an illegal side show in a major intersection in the heart of oakland. >> flying around in big old circles. could you see the doughnuts, over 50 cars swinging. they were going fast, real fast. >> reporter: it went on for hours and broke up after gunshots rang out in the crowd. he did see oakland police cars sitting several blocks away. >> we cannot make any excused. >> reporter: a city councilman says the police need to intervene. >> get the national guard. i don't care who enforces it. we cannot allow it. we allow one to continue, it will grow. it will continue to grow and body es injed rorr:n oakland, a police spokesperson said the department did call in other agencies for help. but officers were dealing with multiple events. at the same time, illegal side show activity was reported throughout the city, officers continued to respond to the other locations as well as priority calls where police services were needed.

in the east bay, two adults and a 15-year-old were shot in oakland this afternoon. it was at an auto repair business at 98th avenue. police haven't released information on a suspect. no one has been arrested. we know that. this is the third shooting in east oakland since yesterday. one man was killed on davis street around 7:30 this morning and two men were killed yesterday morning at 18th and international. a 73-year-old man was killed in a house fire in oakland which broke out before dawn at a two-story victorian. when firefighters arrived, they

saw flames shooting out of a window. the victim was found dead. fivers would able to get out. on the peninsula, police say -- she shut down a street to check out a suspicious device. police shot and killed a dog during an attack on a man in daily city. neighbors called 911 this morning after hearing a 30-year-old man screaming in his backyard for his life. they say the rottweiler from the house wind his got through a hole in the fence and attacked him. >> he tried but you felt helpless. it was awful. i felt -- you felt like you couldn't do anything for him. he was literally yelling for his

he had dropped off at sfo. they had been staying on rand street. a security alarm scared wilson off. he ended up a few blocks away at this place on nash drive. >> that can help them connect the dots. there were others in that community that had the same suspect in their video. >> reporter: he shared his footage as well. it shows an intruder with bags filled with their valuables, a suitcase in this video. the owner of the airbnb identified the intruder as wilson. >> he contacted his tenants who just left and said, do you know this guy? that's our uber driver. >> reporter: they used information from the uber app to track down the driver who lived near sacramento. the couple say they are working with police to try to get their stuff back and wanted to add we did reach out to uber. they did not return calls for comment. i hope you were with us last week.

sharie ining company pinterest plans to sell 75 million shares between $15 and $17 apiece. the company hopes to raise $1.5 billion. it's expected to start trading on the new york stock exchange under the symbol pins later this month. delta is the best airline in the u.s. returning to the top spot it hasn't held since 2000. the carrier came out on top in the 29th airline quality rating. it looked at data from 2018 involving on-time performance, baggage handling and complaints. delta had ranked second the last two years. here are this year's top five. delta is first as we mentioned. jetblue moved up two spots to second. followed by southwest at number three and alaska now ranks fourth. alaska was first the past two years. hawaii runs out the top five.

service. >> the numbers of enforcement actions -- >> i want to thank the president again for the tremendous opportunity to serve this country. >> reporter: she will stay on the job through wednesday to help with the transition. another shakeup in that department. the director of the secret service who reports to the dhs secretary was fired by the president with a replacement set to take over in may. federal authorities have charged a man they believe was plotting to ram a stole truck. the u.s. attorney's office for the district of maryland charged the man with interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle. the government wants him to be detained pending trial. they see him as a flight risk and a danger to the community.

a cracked screen, a broken button, could spell the end of an expensive phone. the state wants to help you hang on to broken technology and fix it yourself. a bill called the right to repair act would require electronics manufacturing to make spare parts and manuals available to people who buy their products and to independent repair shops as well. manufacturers often control where and how property is repaired. many people end up throwing out a broken device and just buying a new one. you have probably had to do that. the bill was authored by an assemblywoman and is working its way through committees. 19 other states are working to pass similar laws. ak occccura is recalling md vehicles because the taillights can go dark. it covered 2014 through 2019 years. the company says due to a manufacturing problem, water can get into the light assembly

it's national library week. the bay area is celebrating. san francisco public library tweeted this picture of a book that's titled "the libraryibrary brook." there was a message, libraries nurture the inner innate curiosity in all of us in a way that we can appreciate. san jose library tweeted this, l libraries equal strong communities. what to do about the murals at george washington high school. >> the artwork shows the oppression of native americans and african-americans during washington's lifetime. some want it removed. others say it should remain. >> it will eventually be up to the school board to decide. >> reporter: it's important to confront history, not erase history.

john rothman is leading a campaign to save the murals at george washington high school. they were painted by a russian artist in 1936, the year of the school opened. the fresco is called life of washington. students enter the school, they come across a mural with colonizers stepping over the dead body of a native american. another shows enslaved african-americans. during the civil rights movements, some students protested. as a result, another mural was painted showing different ethnic races in a more positive light. a supervisor reinitiated the discussion a few years ago when he was a school board member. >> you shouldn't have to look up and see depictions of your ancestors being killed or enslaved. that's not the kind of supportive school environment that all of our children and their families deserve. >> reporter: rothman says the murals can be used as a way to discuss the sins of our part.

>> we have talked about all sorts of vehicles and methods to keep the murals but use them as a teaching fashion. >> reporter: a working group was formed to hear from the public. that group voted to archive and remove the entire work of art. now it's up to the superintendent to consider the best course of action before any kind of recommendation is sent to the school board. this is the school board president. >> i support the decision of the working group. i'm waiting to see what the plan of action is going to be. >> reporter: no date has been set to vote on any kind of action. rain could be on the way where you live. there's a lot of sun in the seven-day forecast. spencer has that.
