today, this afternoon. >> okay. thank you. >> you know the bay area's struggle with homelessness. it has been a focus of abc7's reporting as we work toward building a better bay area. now a report finds the crisis is so massive, it will will will wl overhaul to solve. they say it will take $13 billion to house the homeless residents in the bay area. and at the current rate of housing development, it would take until 2037 to house every homeless person. 28,000 to date. it finds that the bay area is one of the highest levels of unsheltered homeless in the country. 67% are people forced to live out on the streets in tents, cars, or someplace else out in the open. the oakland mayor will he bey schaaf says the seclusion is simple. >> the solution is simple.

aspects, there are inflows and there are exits. they're doing a good job moving them from tents to shelters and units. but then someone takes their place every day. it is showing off the inflows is the most cost effective step. >> we look at the big numbers. how many years it would take to get there. how do we make the small steps and make it more manageable. >> the city by city or county by county basis. we need more innovation. it can happen here. we haven't necessarily innovated on homelessness. we're thinking of better solutions and getting experiments done to see what works and doesn't work. >> here's a basic fundamental question. it is so bad here.

will face the death penalty if convict convicted. prosecutors made the announcement during the latest court appearance. the 73-year-old is the suspect in at least 13 murders and dozens of rapes in six california counties, including santa clara and contra costa. they've agreed to combine it together in one trial. last month the governor impose ad moratorium on current death row inmates. now last times says newsom is considering stopping local prosecutors from seeking any new death penalty sentences but that hasn't happened quite yet. in the east bay, a concord daycare central has its van back. early saturday morning, thieves took off with the van. the video captures two people hanging out in front of the center just before police found the van in a parking lot.
