>> the bay area council economic institute has put a staggering price tag on the solution. 12$12.7 billion. it estimates for each of the 20,000 residents recorded as homeless. >> at a roundtable, those working on finding a fix saw the problem first hand as the oakland mayor began her remarks. a man who once lived on the streets came up and asked for a hug. the mayor was clearly moved. >> i'm sorry. >> another big takeaway from the report was the number of people physically living on the streets. 67% are in tents, a car, or someplace out in the open. >> the study found 70% of the bay area's homeless live in three counties. santa clara, san francisco, and alameda. 70% in those three counties. sometimes we find solutions are not always working and that may be the case in one bay area community. there is a site that is really

closures. the soonist it could reopen was in june. we got a first hand look at how engineers will reinforce the cracked beams. crews will use a total of 16 steel plates. two per beam. >> 224 bolts for this exact location will be installed with the two plates. one on top. one in the bottom. that will be the reinforcement for these girders. >> it is expected to be finished in june. the fix will undergo an independent review before the center can reopen. >> on the peninsula, smash and grab thieves got away with $12,000 of products from the apple store. the police were alerted to the burglary by someone walking by the store around 1:00 this morning who noticed the front glass door were shattered. officers recovered two laptops on the sidewalk. seven others were missing. >> it is not the first time the burglars targeted the apple

store. a team of thieves drove an suv through store front window. up to ten people stole a large number of items. >> in the north bay, the all clear has been given for the water on sonoma state campus. it passed a second round of testing and all restrictions have been lift. the water pressure dropped. people were alerted to use bottled water. also, an on campus housing project for santa rosa junior college is moving forward. the $42 million project was approved by the trustees. it would house up to 360 students. rent would start at 750 a month. it is estimated only one in four community colleges offer housing. a concord daycare center has its van back. the surveillance shows the
