good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. >> this is abc 7 mornings. >> it's saturday, april 13, good morning and thank you very much for joining us. i'm chris newen. let's get a look at your forecast. lisa argen is tracking live doppler 7. >> hi, chris. nothing to show you on live doppler 7 and patchy low clouds along the san mateo coast and it looks pretty good. mount tam nice and clear out there and no fog in the north bay and temperatures are coolest in the mid-40s and we're looking at 50s in san jossy ande and 51 half moon bay and sutro, the beginning of the sunrise. 47 santa rosa and 44 in livermore so get set for a ton of sunshine and we'll see temperatures in many locations anywhere from 4 to 8 degrees above average. so making it into the upper 50s to upper 60s along the coast and bay throughout the noon hour and

then highs well into the mid-70s for the rest of us. so we'll talk about details, your neighborhood and the second half of the weekend? a few minutes. >> lisa, thank you. >> developing news, for the third time since february concrete has fall own the richmond, san rafael bridge. thankf thankfully no impact on this saturday morning and lanes have been closed because of the repair work. crews are predicting the upper deck will take three months and lower deck repairs will start next year. it happened at 9:30 on the eastbound lane at the high-rise. drivers alerted officials about the concrete. it is unclear if these are related to two previous incidents. just last tuesday, chunks fell to have the 31 shieding joints. traffic in the eastbound direction was stopped for several hours the next day, a separate, unrelated incident saw

concrete chunks fall on to the lower deck february 7th. >> in the east bay, a family is on edge this morning after being targeted twice this week by a suspected arsonist. the latest fire forced the mother and son to escape the berkeley apartment through their balcony and abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard has the story. >> people could have been injured and lives could have been lost. >> berkeley neighbors are fearful after a fire broke out outside this apartment on stanton street. it is now off limits. >> it was an uber driver on the corner. he saw what happened and banged on our door and told us to come outside. i initially grabbed a little fire extinguisher thinking it was something small and the guy told us it was way bigger. >> a mother and son inside the apartment were trapped by the flames and they were rescued by firefighters. >> people were brought down the back off the bcony evaluated by the medics. >> the fire department believes the fire was no accident and it was intentionally set. >> we did find what appeared to be some rags or a fabric that

had some flammable liquid on it. >> the battalion chief reported witnesses reported a man running away from the fire and on tuesday officials say a molotov cocktail was thrown at a window in the same apartment and likely missed. ashley's mom saw it land. >> i know my mom came out and put the fire out with the fear extinguisher the first time because it was really small. >> reporter: police now investigating. they don't know yet family was targeted. neighbors are now worried about their own safety. >> want them to try to catch this person because it's the least that we can do. >> i hope somebody will come out and say if they saw anything because that's somebody's life. >> authorities say there was no description on the man seen running away from the fire. mother and son were not hurt. we are told they have moved to a new apartment. in berkeley, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. a 12-year-old girl says a classmate had been bullying her for months.

suspended the principal and teacher in the classroom after dan noyes demanded answers over the handlig of the case. you will see this only on abc 7. >> reporter: what sets this attack apart from others we've seen is the teacher's response. look at the beginning of the video again that's stewart elementary 7th grade teacher jeremy cooper raising his hands and walking away. >> i was very shocked that he didn't do anything because most teachers just go and try to stop it, but he didn't do anything. >> reporter: the beating that 12-year-old valeria delao lasted 40 seconds until a p-e teacher came to her aid. >> she kaled me and told me mom, she hit me. >> valeria's mother rushed to the school, saw her daughter's bruises and took her to the hospital for evaluation. she saw the video the next day and it circulated among students and social media. >> i never thought i would see my child having to go through this. >> it made me sad that my mom

was crying. >> carla gamboa told me she first complained to the school five months ago about her daughter being bullied discussing the teasing about valeria's height, her hair, her friends and even during class. >> want to focus and i want to learn and not always hear her talking about me and saying stuff. >> the mom started keeping a list of alleged incidents and says the pressure on valeria escalated when the other students sang an obscene track posted on instagram. >> she's a ho, ho, ho, ho. >> carla gamboa wanted you to see that. she's a school bus driver herself and carla tells me after she complained to the west contra county unified school district again, the bullying stopped for a while and then came the classroom beating on march 25th and she confronted principal peter aloo. >> i said okay, now what are you going to do? i told you last time that i wanted avoid something like this to happen and it was just a matter of time. he goes, i don't know. i can't tell you what i'm going

to do, and i was, like, are you serious? >> carla kept valeria home for two weeks and the school never called to check on her daughter or to provide make-up work so i went to the school this week. >> she started beating her back and her head and pulling her head and stuff. >> and with their parents' permission spoke to students who there during the attack. >> why do you need to fight her? >> i was just trying to kind of avoid the fight, but she got beat up really bad. >> principal aloo and the teacher jeremy cooper would not come out to discuss what happened. i waited for hours and they left without my seeing them and i returned to find the principal's parking space empty and valeria returned to her school. >> was there an apology? >> definitely there was. they accepted that they dropped the ball. >> the school district told me they would e-mail a statement about the case and i went to the headquarters to press for an interview and called superintendent matt duffy coming

out of a meeting. >> we are certainly disturbed by what happened in that classroom and we've taken disciplinary action and both the teacher and principal are on administrative leave at this time which should give you some idea of how we feel the handling of the situation went. >> the family has obtained a temporary restraining order. a judge ordered the alleged bull toe have no contact with valeria and to stay three yards away from her, but they both still go to the same school. >> i've not been able to reach the other family in the story. valeria's mom has filed a police report and wants to press charges and is talking to a lawyer about suing the school. for the i-team, dan noyes, abc 7 news. >> there are resources out there if your child is being bullied. we have a page dedicated to finding your ally through various organizations. visit our website, abc 7 news.com/take action. bay area leaders reacted strongly to president trump's threat to send detained

immigrants to sanctuary cities across the country. you're looking at a map showing bay area cities and counties that have declared themselves sanctuaries. they include oakland along with alameda and santa clara counties. they urged both the president and federal lawmakers to focus reforming america's current immigration system. >> a solution does not include scaring parts of our community. it does not include dividing families at the border. it does not include punishing opponents. >> libby shaft described the president and his policies as being racist. >> this administration continues to use petty politics and really just vitriolic rhetoric to advance a racist agenda. this is not american. >> and san francisco mayor london breed issued a statement saying, quote, like so many issue, we are forced to talk

all right. time right now is 6:13. today will be an awesome day to head out and enjoy the sunshine once we finally get it. this is a live look from the golden gate bridge camera and there are changes ahead in the forecast and we'll get those from lisa coming up, but first. in the east bay police are searching for thiefs who stole a van from the concord day care center. it's the day care's second van to be stolen this week and the third stole then year. the van was taken from the parking lot on west street just after 5:30 yesterday morning. police did confirm it was not the same van stolen earlier this week. that one was recovered and it's still in the shop. >> in the north bay, part of a

massive sculpture stolen from the community center has been found. the artist's six foot tall metal hammer head was found on a sonoma county property without the handle. the 800-pound piece named the hammer was stolen back in early october. he will restore and a three-foot nail marks the spot where the hammer once stood. >> a local san francisco restaurant is not only gaining popularity for its great food, but also because of what's on the walls. the wallpaper of fiorella is becoming an instagram sensation. we spoke to the artist about his craft. >> reporter: it all started with a picture, a perfect instagram picture from foodies like this one. >> first of all, i would never post anything that i didn't really like. neighborhood restaurant and everyone on this wallpaper represented something to a specific neighborhood or a specific geography in the bay

area. >> fiorella's manager said he never thought his restaurant would be known for the wallpaper he bought last minute. >> where else would you find jod mo montana. >> we had to meet artist behind the wallpaper. meet matt richie. a group of friends asked them to draw four characters and the landmarks to make a wallpaper out of it and the rest is history. do you feel like a historian? >> i didn't at the time. that was never my intent, but now i feel like people are really responding to it, so -- and i think it generates nostalgia for them. >> it's a piece of art. it took him more than a year to finish each character more than 30 hours. in lots of research. trying to get involved in researching that individual

really made me look into the career of joe montana and piecing it together. >> recently, this restaurant opened a second location and the artist has already gotten requests to add more people to the history wall. >> i already knew i liked steph curry. luz pena, abc 7 news. >> after 18 innings, the giants finally scored to beat the rockies 3-2. the game ended at 12:50 this morning just over five and a half hours after the first pitch and it matches the longest game in oracle park history. in the 16th inning, giants mascot lucille came out dressed in his p.j.s. the team doesn't have a lot of time to rest and they're back in action this afternoon at 1:05. last night's game was the first fireworks night at oracle park and the crowd dwindled to 3,000 by the end of the game. the giants shared this video on twitter of the show and this was at 1:11 this morning. weatherwise, we are looking

ahead to the bay area and lisa argen tracking the forecast. >> hi, chris. a little bit of patchy fog off the coast and more of it down along the san mateo coast, but still clear skies overall and live doppler 7 picking up on the low cloudiness and from the officer camera. nice and clear and being look, not much in the way of wind, but the sea breeze will kick up later on this afternoon. right now 49 here. 51 in oakland as well as mountain view with 50 in san jose and half moon bay and it looks to be a bfl deautiful day 47 in santa rosa and 44 livermore and concord, 51. you'll be well into the 70s and another 26, i should say, 15 degrees of warming perhaps for some of you from the morning low. so we'll look at a beautiful day today and checking out the same

picture and sunny and mild with warm conditions and it will be mild at the coast a looking at a cooler day tomorrow and increasing clouds and showers arrive on monday and it will be cloudy and cooler for everyone even if you don't see those showers and everyone has a good chance of that. mid-60s half moon bay and 72 in santa cruz and upper 60s and monterey and 64 ocean beach and pollen count continues to grow for your grasses. here is your forecast for today. moderate to high and tomorrow even worse and we'll continue that trend into monday. we get a little more rain and getting slightly better after the rain on tuesday, but certainly the season now right on through about the next month or so. here's the trend in san jose with highs today about seven degrees above average and increasing clouds late in the day and the coolest day monday seeing a few showers late in the day and we're looking at a slow recovery. by tuesday this is cool and this is near average and the numbers come up wednesday. wednesday, look at thursday and

prosecutors in boston have sent letters to some of the adult children involved in the scheme and like their parent, they, too, may face charges. all right. time now 6:32. in san francisco lawmakers are trying to reduce the traffic on the crooked part of lombard street. he will detail legislation on monday. it will include charging drivers eeorive down the street and require them to make a reservation. the transportation authority says the average capacity on the street is 320 cars per hour. past attempts to address traffic concerns on lombard have failed. ♪ ♪ abc 7 news was in oakland when the city saluted two championship basketball teams. the girls' teams from oakland tech and oakland high both captured state championships in different divisions last month. yesterday member of the bulldogs and wild cats reflected on their accomplishments. >> i did really, really hope

central coast. sunny mild and warm, cooler with clouds tomorrow and looking at spring showers, that's right, arriving midday monday. into your sunday we start out sunny and you can see the fog around the coast and it's high, mid-level clouds approaching from the north and here is a wave that will provide the mostly cloudy conditions and the rain arriving by the afternoon for your monday. so morning is dry, but you'll notice the clouds and then the rain at 3:00 in the afternoon. it continues, a chance of it right through the evening commute and sweeps out of here through the overnight hours and by tuesday afternoon we'll see sunny conditions. temperatures will be cooler and rainfall amounts about 0.2. san francisco, this is through early tuesday morning and 0.2 in the valley. enjoy the sunshine. mid-60s half moon bay and 68 in san francisco with low to mid-70s and we shold see 67 and

experts say this could be one of the worst seasons in years. here's abc 7 news reporter, leslie brinkley. >> you look out and everything is a vibrant green which is beautiful, but now we have to be prepared for these allergies. >> into my noise and my eyes got watery and puffy. o cf1 o >> i had to take my asthma inhaler. >> the prettier the spring, the greener the spring the worse it is for seasonal allergies. right now the hills are alive with grass pollen and especially in contra costa and the trivalley area we're about to get slammed with a big tidal wave of more pollen. >> as far as i can tell, i think this is going to be the worst season in the last ten to 15 years. >> dr. josh jacobs is director of the clinical research division of the allergy and asthma medical group of the bay area. he tracks pollen and he has a forecast. >> we've had a lot of precipitation and some relatively low temperatures this year and it's led to a relatively mild tree season and

that is all going to change in a week or two. this grass is going to pollinate like crazy and we've had a lot of growth this year. it's a very powerful allergen and not only does it cause us a lot of misery with our eyes and our nose. it causes a lot of wheezing and so we tend to have a lot of visits to the emergency room. >> he says by mother's day we'll hit our grass pollen peak. he advises getting out the meds starting now. over the counter nasal sprays and eye drops can mitigate the symptoms a bit if used in advance. close windows and cars and in your home if you're allergic to grass. >> i don't want to stay outside and i'll just decide to deal with it the best i can. >> so what i'm going to do is keep up religiously with these inhalers from now on just to be on the safe side. >> it's the rain that dictates pollen and so for tree allergies it's the year before so last year made less rain and less of a tree allergy season and next
