the two others were taken to highland, but they would not confirm the condition of those who survived. >> we need more units out here. >> copy. can i get more units to respond to 26th and foothill? >> reporter: oakland police arrived on scene at 26th and foothill to find three people severely injured in a hit and run. one was a 7-year-old boy. >> we just saw people -- i mean, they were stopped on the ground. >> reporter: he knows the mother and young boy. he goes to school with his son. police say they were crossing the street when they were hit. the driver fled the scene. he said the family lay in the middle of the street for quite sometime before police arrived. >> there's no word to explain -- yeah, it's that.

>> they said no money in the city. we never have money for safety here. >> reporter: alma chavez also knew the family. she's lived in the neighborhood more than 23 years. cars racing down the street has always been a problem, she says, with speeds reaching over 60 miles an hour. she's even collected signatures to petition the city to put in traffic lights, but she says still no change. >> when they run, that last light on 28th, they just happen to run like crazy because the last -- the next light is on 23rd. so that's a long, long space to have lights in this boulevard. >> reporter: oakland police say they did track down a vehicle, but it was not the driver involved in this hit and run. their search continues tonight. reporting live in oakland, news. >> uncer, thank you very much. a woman was hit and derived on el camino real on shoreline boulevard just before 8:30. police say the driver remabd at the scene and is cooperating

with investigators. >> san francisco international airport is dealing with a surge in homeless, coming into its terminals, particularly late at night. airport officials believe many of them are arriving on some of the last bart trains of the evening terminating at s.f.o. that is according to the chronicle. airport statistics show contact between airport personnel and homeless people have tripled in the last two years. the city wants bart to sweep its trains for homeless before they arrive at the airport. now, the homeless seeking refuge at s.f.o. is not a new issue. in september of 2017, a san francisco police officer assigned to the airport was attacked by a knife by a transient. the officer was badsly hurt but survived the incident. they arrested 64-year-old doris johnson. at the time police told abc7 news its officers met late night bart trains at s.f.o. to turn away homeless people looking to enter the airport. >> severe weather across the south where two children were

killed by a powerful storm system, a tree fell on a car in texas, killing a 3-year-old and an 8-year-old. a man who lives nearby rushed in to try to help. >> i ran down there to see what was going on and that's when i noticed the tree had fallen on the vehicle. i saw the size of the tree and how it was on the car, so i knew it wasn't a good outcome. >> storms also hit several other states and some areas are now under a curfew. >> a powerful storm across parts of the south with millions in its path. several tornadoes touching down in texas. this large twister destroying multiple homes in the town of franklin. >> was someone in the trailer? >> reporter: ripping roofs on some homes and completely flattening others. >> we lost about half of the south side of frank lynn's totally destroyed. >> reporter: prompting officials to put a curfew in effect. >> the curfew is not to keep you from doing what you want to do. it's to protect your property.

so i need everyone to just adhere to it and wait till morning. >> reporter: in a town of alto. >> it's a tornado. >> reporter: a similar scene, several homes damaged, several power lines knocked down and roads blocked by debris. >> we're focusing on getting people out of houses and making sure everybody is safe. as soon as we get all that done, we'll start surveying the property damage. >> reporter: and in san antonio, golf ball-sized hail pounded the city. that same storm system also produced this funnel cloud in louisiana where torrential downpours left some roads under water. and as that dangerous storm continues to move east, the governor of alabama is activating the emergency operation center. abc news, new york. >> witnesses say good samaritans chased a car load of suspected burglars in san francisco's outer richmond neighborhood. that chase ended with a violent crash at the end of 40th avenue

and cabrillo street. three other cars were involved. two of them were parked. one car was pushed into the doorway of a house, damaging the home. witnesses say the people in the car being chased had just broken into at least one car. >> they were trying to take my camera. i said, you know, it's a long ride. they're working on the next car. they took everything they had, they got into the car and started running. >> san francisco police say several people were detained in the suspect's car, but others ran off and remain wanted. >> in the east bay, the warriors took care of business, defeating the los angeles clippers in game one of their first round playoff series. it was 121-104 victory. steph curry led the warriors with 34 points. fans as you can imagine were thrilled. abc7 news reporter luz pena was there as they opened their playoff run in oakland. >> reporter: the excitement was evident tonight.

inland will be hitting the low 70s instead of the low 80s. a little cooler, but at the coast, also still keeping it steady at 60 degrees. increasing clouds which hints at the return of the rain. this rainy season just will not quit. i'll tell you more about what you can expect on monday coming up. eric? >> frances, thanks a lot. east bay congressman eric swalwell will hold a campaign rally in his hometown of dublin tomorrow afternoon. swalwell announced monday on stephen colbert's show that he will run for president. the 38-year-old democrat says he intends to make gun violence a central issue in his campaign. swalwell wasted no time hitting the trail. he set out for florida, iowa and south carolina this week. tomorrow's event takes place at 2:00 at his alma mater dublin high. so far there are 18 democrats running for president. senator cory booker held his campaign kickoff event in newark, new jersey today. that's where he got his start as a council man, then mayor. he will be in iowa, nevada and

in the north bay, r r park police believe he was drunk when he drove his car. the store was forced to close until inspectrs determine it's okay to reopen. the d.u.i. suspect attends sonoma state university which is across the street from 7-eleven.

meantime another driver says a chunk of concrete fell onto their car while they crossed the richmond san rafael bridge last night. all of this on the latest mishap on the span. cal trans insists it is safe for thousands of drivers who rely on it. here's abc7 news reporter cornell barnard. >> reporter: the c.h.p. investigated another report of falling concrete on richmond bridge friday night. a woman driving eastbound said two baseball size chunks of concrete fell hitting the wintd shield. >> there is possible concrete. have them reinspect everything. >> reporter: cal trans tells abc7 news after an inspection, there was no fallen concrete. instead, it was a pothole mid span which likely kicked up debris. it's the third incident involving loose concrete on the bridge this year. in february chunks of concrete fell from the upper deck to the lower deck, damaging a passing car. weeks later, more conyeet fell

from the upper deck, leading to more lane closures and a lengthy repair job to replace 60 bridge joints. >> socal trans has told me to my face that the bridge is structurally sound. that's great. i believe the bridge is not going to fall into the bay, but the bridge is lilt rally falling into the bay. >> reporter: north bay assemblyman said the span needs to be replaced. >> we know the bridge is failing. we need to have it replaced. we need a plan to rebuild when. >> i don't want a bunch of concrete falling on me. >> reporter: drivers say the richmond san rafael bridge is their commuter life line. >> it's very concerning. i drive over it every day. i think it's probably fairly safe. >> reporter: cal trans says that bridge is safe and structurally sound. by the way, that pothole has been repaired. from in marin c c c c c c

abc7 news. >> fireworks show rattled some neighbors early this morning. the giants tweeted this video at 1:11 in the morning. you can blame extra innings for the show's late start. last night's game ended an oracle park record for the longest game with 18 innings. two fans believe the show must go on no matter how late the game ends and despite what the neighbors think. >> fans are out here expecting it to be on schedule. it is expected there is a time period when i was a kid, i remember a game in chicago going past 1:00 a.m. they did the fire works 24ethemselves there. so i'm not surprised. >> reporter: do you think it's a problem? >> it would be if it was every night. but if it's occasionally -- what's your take? >> the giants issued a statement saying, quote, we have initiated discussions to adjust our fireworks policy, particularly under circumstances where game times run longer than expected.

we sincerely apologize for the disruption and anticipate having a new policy in place before the next fireworks display. opponents of a navigation center along san francisco's embarcadero protested before this afternoon's giants game calling attention to the issue that's divided the community. opponents say the center would be a magnet for crime and the don't want it built. supporters counter it would provide badly needed shelter and resources for the homeless. their proposed center would open in this parking lot owned by the port of san francisco along the embarcadero. the center would have about 200 temporary beds and support services for homeless people living in the area. >> continuing the streak of warm weekend weather, will it happen, are we going to see a cool down >> my monday inis on the cool down because it said so a couple minutes ago. frances has the weather. >> you're paying attention. we have clear conditions over parts of the bay area and partly clouded conditions over the bay.

it's showing with live doppler 7 and the satellite image. a beautiful night out there. but you'll notice things are cooling down. here's a live shot from the roof camera looking out towards the bay bridge and the sparkling lights. here's the forecast. we can expect cooler and cloudier conditions tomorrow and that's just a preview for another system that moves in on monday. the rain returns. have the umbrellas handy. this season is not over. and then if you liked today, i think you're going to enjoy the big warm up that we're expecting late next week. so on abc7's exclusive storm impact scale, we're ranging a 1 out of 5. it's going to be light, but there will be light to moderate rain at times as the system moves through. it's a quick moving one, but we're only talking less than a quarter inch of rain for most areas. a little bit more along the coast. and then generally we'll see occasionally breezy winds. here's a look at the forecast animation. so tomorrow morning we'll see some low clouds and fog along the peninsula coast, possibly even spilling in across the bay

into parts of the east bay as well. and then we'll see breaks of sunshine, increasing clouds again sunday night as the system pushes through into monday. that's when we see clouds especially in the north bay. but dry for folks heading to school or work that day. notice we'll be dry up through ukiah. it sweeps through part of the bay area moving in around 4:00 in the afternoon along the peninsula and the east bay. and see the areas of yellow? that's the heavier moderate rain that could come through, so it will be moderate at times. by 10:00, the system kicks out of here. some spotty showers linger, and a slight chance continues into early tuesday morning. so rainfall amounts, again, generally less than a quarter of an inch, possibly a 10th of an inch in concord, fairfield, and a little bit more, up to half an inch along the coast and in some of the higher altitude areas. lows tonight will be in the 50s and 40s. san francisco 50 with the fog again creeping in overnight.

san jose 49. tomorrow's high, so we saw low 80s today. we're not going to see that tomorrow. we'll see low 70s instead in some of the inland areas like morgan hill 72. at the coast that sea breeze will keep things cool. low 60s in san francisco. 60 in half moon bay. here's a look at the week ahead. for example, in concord, our high tomorrow 71. as the rain comes in and the cold front moves through monday, we droch. temperatures tumble by 10 degrees. but then high pressure rebuilds and we will be warming up into the low to mid-'80s by thursday and friday next week. in fact, here's one of our models that just kind of gives you a preview of what friday might look like. 75 degrees possible in san francisco, mid-'80s in parts of the inland areas. possibly even upper 80s. that's just one of our models. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. increasing clouds, cooler tomorrow. rainy and much cooler on monday with our storm level 1. a chance of some sprinkles left over on tuesday, then check out

witnesses say a family was crossing the street at 25th avenue when they were hit about 7:30 last night or tonight. >> the homeless are increasingly finding refuge at san francisco international airport, especially late at night. airport officials say they are arriving on bart and the chronicle reports the number of instances where airport personnel have come into contact with homeless people increased three fold over the last two years. >> and the golden state warriors took care of business at oracle tonight defeating the l.a. clippers in game one of their first round playoff series. it was 121-104 of a victory. steph curry led the warriors with 38 points. new at 11:00 now there is no risk of a tsunami after a 5.3 magnitude quake hit the main island at hawaii. it was at 5:00 tonight. parts of the island may have experienced strong shaking, but there are no reports of injuries or major damage. >> a top democrat on capitol hill set a new deadline today for the irs to turnover

president trump's income tax returns. congressman richard neal chairs the house ways and means committee. the massachusetts lawmaker believes federal law clearly gives the congress right to see the president's tax records. the chief asked them to extend the deadline that had been set last week. the fight could end up in court. >> the country's all male historically black college will next year begin admitting transgender men. moore house college in atlanta said the move is an important step to a more inclusive campus. stungts who were born as male but identify as women cannot enroll. moore house's board of trustees a 3r0678d that policy today. it becomes the first stand alone all male college in the u.s. to adopt such a policy. >> facebook's activist shareholders will once again try to oust mark zuckerberg as chairman of the board. they're unhappy about recent scandals involving facebook, namely the spread of misinformation, privacy and other issues and they believe zuckerberg has too much power.

it is unlikely such an overthrow will succeed since zuckerberg holds more than half of the voting shares. facebook will hold shareholder meeting may 30th. >> court records indicate the suspect accused of tossing a 5-year-old boy off a balcony in the mall of america had been banned twice from the shopping center. here's abc news reporter arielle reshef. >> reporter: this stranger, emmanuel threw him from the third floor of mall of america. >> we have a report on the south side that someone just fell from the third floor to the first floor. >> pretty gut wrenching for everybody involved. >> reporter: the child plummeting 40 feet. >> he was limp and there was a pool of blood on the floor when they put him on the stretcher. it was a shock. >> reporter: the motive still a mystery 789 >> the suspect threw the child off the third floor. as to why he did that is something we're looking into and trying to figure out.

>> reporter: now disturbing new details from the suspect's past. he was arrested twice at the same mall in 2015, first for tossing an item over a railing, and then for throwing a glass at a restaurant employee. he was temporarily banned from entering the mall. >> in this case, since the incidents happened back in 2015, that trespass period has expired. >> reporter: witnesses say a rondo took off immediately after friday's terrifying incident but was quickly taken down by police. >> he's located in the transit station of mall of america. >> reporter: he's now charged with attempted homicide. arielle reshef, abc news, new york. >> survivors of a school shooting joined a local congresswoman to push for stricter gun laws across america. abc7 news was at burlingame for a town hall about a conversation of america stophe killing. congresswoman jackie spear hosted the event and two of the speakers that survived last year's massacre at marjory stoneman douglas high school in

firefighters raced to put out a fire during the first night of the coachella music and arts festival. a mobile shower unit went up in flames at 2:00 in the morning. late night festival goers took this photo and shared it on social media. the crewmanaged to put the fire out in minutes and no one was hurt. coachella takes place this weekend and next weekend drawing tens of thousands of people. >> building a better bay area sometimes begins with a choice to do so. a former san francisco giants outfielder threw the first pitch at the san jose giants home opener on thursday. >> now he's referred to as

deputy sheriff justin christian. his love for the bear led to a career in law enforcement. abc7 news reporter amanda del castillo has this story. >> reporter: back on the baseball field, but in a different uniform. former san francisco giants outfielder turned deputy sheriff justin christian took the mound at thursday night's giants game. >> some old teammates, old coaches. it brought back memories. it was fun. >> reporter: standing behind laurie smith, christian threw the first pitch. his two passions colliding. >> i wanted to get in law enforcement while i was in college. never had that opportunity because i was blessed enough to continue baseball. >> reporter: a successful baseball career that landed him back in the bay area. the former outfielder grew up in san mateo. christian took home a world series ring with the giants in 2012. in 2015 he retired from major league baseball and went through the academy a year later. his goal, to help build a better bay area. >> i wanted something that was basically going to challenge me and give me an opportunity to go
