ncht it's sunday, april 14th. good morning and thanks so much for joining us. let's start with the first look at the accuweather forecast. hi, lisa. >> hey, chris. if you're an early rider rider r you've been in the city or coast, you know with have some patchy wind. you saw this picture from mt. tam. we have cooler ocean temperatures and a front that's coming in tomorrow. numbers are in the 50s. that will be the order of the day. partly cloudy skies. right now we have 48 in santa rosa. 56. we've had the sunshine all morning in concord. elsewhe elsewhere, not a big change.

from san francisco we'll have a partly cloudy day. the fog stacked up along the coast. by noontime, cool at the waters edge. if you're headed to the coast it will be brisk with the northwesterly winds and we'll talk about a cold front on the way. that will bring rain and we'll do a 180 by the end of the week. i'll explain in a few minutes. dozens of people including infants, children and adults became sick after being exposed to pepper stray pray in concord. police were sent to an indoor play place called the jungle after 7:00 last night. the pepper spray was used during a fight involving five to ten young people. about 25 to 30 people became sick. some vomited. others had difficulty breathing. medics treated and released every one who received medical attention. in east oakland two people are dead after a hit and run crash.

abc 7 spoke to some witnesses and filed this report. >> we're starting cpr. we need more units out here. >> copy. >> reporter: oakland police arrived on scene at 25th and foothill to find three people severely injured in a hit and run. one was a 7-year-old boy. >> we just saw people, they is stuff on the ground. >> reporter: he goes to school with his son. police say they were crossing the street when they were hit. the driver fled the sustain. the family lay in the middle of the street for quite some time before police arrived. >> there's no word to explain it's sad. >> we never have money for safety here. >> reporter: she has lived in the neighborhood for more than 23 years. cars racing down the street has always been a problem with speeds reaching over 60 miles an hour. she's even collected signatures to petition the city to put in traffic lights but she says

still no change. >> when they run that last light on 28th, they just run like crazy. the next light is on 23rd. that's a long, long space to have lights. a woman was also hit and killed by a driver in mountain view. it happened near shoreline boulevard around 8:30 last night. the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. time now is 9:04. san francisco international airport is dealing with a surge in homeless coming into its terminals late at night. airport officials believe many of them are arriving on some of the last bart trains of the evening. airport statistics show contacts between airport personnel and homeless people have tripled. the city wants bart to sweep i wants trains for the homeless before they arrive at the

airport. in september 2017, a san francisco police officer assigned to the airport was attacked with a knife by a transient. police arrested the suspect, 64-year-old doris johnston. the officers met some of the late night bart trains arriving at sfo to turn away homeless people looking to enter the airport. ncht severe weather continues across the south. a powerful storm system killed two children this texas after a tree fell onto a car killing a 3-year-old and 8-year-old. a man who lives close by ran over to help. >> i ran to see what was going on and i noticed the tree had fallen on their vehicle. i saw the size of the tree and how it was on the car, i knew it wasn't a good out come. >> there's an enhanced risk for severe weather for several states today. marcus moore has the latest. >> reporter: overnight a tornado out break in the south. >> it's a big one.

>> reporter: in mississippi the severe weather turning deadly with two people dead in monroe county. destructive winds blowing out car windows and bringing down power lines. more than 150,000 people in the dark this morning. s >> just got a report of tornado on the ground. >> reporter: the tornado causing massive destruction tearing through this business, tossing items outside and peeling off the roof. just outside jackson, strong winds causing the gas station canopy to come crashing down trapping multiple cars. mississippi state university on lock down as the campus sends out a tornado warning. down trees near the campus making the roads impassable. watch as this woman and a girl are carried away by first responders after the suv got stuck inside a flooded ditch. in louisiana this school engulfed in flames. officials say the out of control fire may have been started by a lightning strike. luckily no one was injured. in texas the effort to recover

under way after a powerful ef-3 tornado with winds up to 140 miles an hour tore through the town of franklin. the damage wide spread. homes flattened. others left in shreds. roofs completely ripped off and debris scattered everywhere. the violent wind toppling trees. the severe weather out break claiming two young lives. an 8-year-old and 3-year-old killed. in cherokee county, texas damaging winds cutting short an annual celebration. at least 16 people hurt. some air lifted by helicopters from the scene. >> i've seen tornadoes but nothing like this. in san francisco, witnesses say good samaritans chased down a carload of suspected burglars in the outer richmond. that chase ended with a violent crash at the intersection of 4th avenue. three other cars were involved. two of them were parked. one car was pushed into the doorway of a house damaging the

them reinspect everything. >> reporter: after an inspection, there was no falling concrete. it was a pothole that likely kicked up debris. >> they have told me the bridge is sound. that's great. i believe the bridge is not going to fall into the bay but the bridge is literally falling into the bay. >> reporter: north bay assembly men says the 63-year-old span needs to be replaced. >> we know the bridge is failing. we need to have a new bridge in place. we need plan now to build a new plan when the toll available. >> i don't think about it but i should. i don't want a bunch of concrete falling on me.

>> reporter: it's their compumur lifeline. >> it's very concerning. i think it's probably fairly safe. >> reporter: the bridge is safe and structurally sound. the pothole has been repaired. the giants tweeted this video after 1:11 saturday morning. you can blame extra innings for the show's late start. we spoke to a couple of fans who says the show must go on despite what the neighbors think. >> it's on a schedule. it's expectexpected. there was a time period when i was a kid going past 1:00 a.m.

have about 200 support centers. we're also looking at a warm end of the workweek. if you're not too excited about the rain, we have a lot ahead in the next seven days. take it wi you can see the fog filling into the coast and also parts of the bay here. that's due to a couple of reasons. past couple of days we had low sea surface temperatures and also some breezy winds on the way out ahead of front. here is the goellden gate bridg. oakland with low 50s from half-moon bay. san jose 54. you had a lot of sun there. with about 54 napa and vacaville had gusty winds. we're in the 20s and 30s in parts of lake tahoe.

a high in the 50s. you'll have showers at lake level tomorrow but at about 5500 feet, maybe 6,000 feet, maybe getting a few inches of snow as the system coming out of the north. cooler with the clouds today. rain returns tomorrow. the big warm up. the warmest day of the week will be thursday and friday. we'll begin warming up on wednesday. let's get right to that warm up. on thursday we'll have widespread 70s. even upper 70s inland. perhaps friday the warmest day as an offshore wind takes over and that will allow for even warm weather at the coast with mid-70s in san francisco but don don't get too used to it. we have the cool down on tap for next weekend. tomorrow we have a one on our storm impact scale. light to moderate rain. the latest forecast models are bumping up the precip. it was about a quarter of an inch. we could see a half inch in some

spots. it's a quick mover. you'll note we'll have some cloud cover. no not totally. as we get through the later part of the afternoon, increasing clouds. we have a dry, monday morning commute. that's always a good thing. the first half of the morning gets progressively wet in the north bay. by 1:30, it's rainy from santa rosa to marin into the east bay slipping into the peninsula. this is your evening commute where we're looking at moderate rain. it will end upbringing down anywhere from about a quarter of an inch to half inch. if you believe this model, there's another model that looks to bring in heftier totals. 70 in napa. 72 in morgan hill. looking at the increasing clouds.

islands around 5:00 local time. people reported strong shaking on some parts of the island. the quake caused rock falls. three aftershocks were recorded within an hour of the quake including one magnitude 3.0. there's no reports of injuries or major damage. a top democrat on capitol hill set a new deadline for to turn over the president's tax returns. the massachusetts lawmaker believes federal law clearly gives congress a right to see the president's tax records. this follows the chief of the irs asking to extend a deadline that had been set last week. the fight may end up in court. the 2020 presidential race is heating up and in just a few hours democrat pete buttijieg is expected to kick off the campaign.

of the week, this is what it will look like. a lot of is up shine asunshine warmer temperatures. a cold front moves in. temperatures will plummet into the 50s with brisk winds and we'll look for that rebound on tuesday. numbers will top out by about thursday all over the bay area into the 80s. it will be a warm end of the week. we're looking at a cloudy start here in santa cruz where temperatures are about 50 degrees going into the mid to upper 60s today with a bit of wind and a little bit of sun. we'll call it partly cloudy there. cooler and cloudier today. we're looking at the rain returning tomorrow and a big warm up in store. starting on wednesday but the warmest days will be thursday and friday depending on where you live. look how the fog has come back into play. higher elevations. our cameras you can see it and also mt. tam and the winds are quite gusty. here is a look at walnut creek where it's clear.
