that churned. notre dame in the heart of paris. >> i never thought i would cry over a building. it was so surreal. >> new images show the devastation inside. the sun shining right through gaping holes in the centuries old roof. >> it is a nightmare. >> they watched in horror. >> a huge amount of smoke pouring up. i said what on earth is that? >> hundreds of firefighters worked all night battling the blaze. they could not protect the iconic spire which toppled. >> oh! >> the smell of the old wood burning. and you could feel the heatoff. the two towers are still standing of priceless artifacts saved by a human chain, as debris fell upon them including the crown of thorns said to be worn by jesus at his

crucifixion. last thursday, four evangelists were removed as part of ongoing restoration work. and the gold cross is still standing over the altar where the faithful would have flocked this sunday of. >> they believe hit to do with the restoration in the first place. it would have taken 20 years. president macron now says he wants to rebuild all of it in five years. ab abc7. >> it is hard to imagine paris without that as a police for tourists to see. have you heard of anything that was not able to be saved? >> we have heard of tremendous damage.

we've heard of artifacts and ancient ancient wood carving that's would date to the middle ages. we have not gotten an estimate of what might not have made it out. you did see there was a human chain of people, rescue workers and first responders that pulled out a lot of artifacts. we actually watched work orders a cherry picker go up to the way top of the side of one of the sides of the cathedral and shore up the carvings. so they're not necessarily out of woods but we're hoping for ar so. >> all right. thank you for reporting live from paris. >> and we're getting a look at the conditions the firefighters were facing. it shows how they used a drone to monitor the fire. this provides one of the first aerial looks that we are getting of that fire.

thanks from the community, they have been pouring in of the french interior minister showed him with firefighters. >> and pledges of money to rebuild notre dame are pouring in today. the university of notre dame in indiana is donating $100,000. the apple ceo tim cook announced the company is donating but he did not specify how much. perhaps they're still determining that. as of today, beauty, energy and finance companies have chipped in. the pledges for most companies have reached close to $675 million. one luxury company pledged $100 million. another, a competitor. something like $200 million. now, fear notre dame's famous pipe organ might have been lost in the fire really triggered anxiety worldwide. >> absolutely priceless. one musician who shared that concern is a bay area organist

gun shows at the cow palace said they may sue after the arena's board of directors voted to sto next year organizers have said there have been no known incidents but it pleased gun control activists. richard's brother was killed on this day in 1995. he's been protesting the shows of the daly city venue ever since. it is a sad day but a happy day. it's been 24 years. scott introduced legislation in february to transfer control from the state to a local agency and develop the hand for housing and mixed use development.

and their own study shows about 33% of all the traffic congestion in that area around the arena is caused by people circling around. they hope it will help ease construction. not only for those drivers sitting in the grid lock but also the neighborhood residents. >> by the way, there is a consideration to double the number scooters on the streets but there is a catch. they talked about the plan but did not vote. they have manslaughter to increase the numbers on the streets. they say they'll double the numbers if they can get people to sign up for discounted payment plans. and they found most people with scooter memberships were wealthy white men.

here are the stories making headlines at 4:30. another dead whale has turned up in the bay. sky 7 spotted this whale on a beach off richmond. at least three dead whales have shown up in the past three weeks. cow palace will officially be banning gun shows. abc7 news reporter vic lee sent out this picture on the chase center. it is adding parking control officers to enforce the rules on game days. to paris, another vigil thomas france deals with the devastating fire at the notre dame cathedral.

it will be clear overnight. upper 40s near the bay and coast. tomorrow's highs under sunny skies. a bit higher than today. look for mid 70s inland. mid 60s on the coast tomorrow. it will be a bit breezy. we've got a nice little warming trend. thursday and friday, inland highs in the low to mid 80s. up to nearly 80 along the bay shoreline. we'll see 70 degrees in the post on thursday. then it will be a pretty sharp cooldown as a few clouds come in. nice and pleasant, sunny and dry easter sunday. not very warm but the warming trend will start building. by next tuesday, we'll see temperatures in the low 80s in our inland areas. >> sunday will be a great day for going outside. >> that's exactly right. the measles outbreak is not going away.

place here. the $12 million makeover that includes a huge new clubhouse, garden terraces and for the first ever, lighted courts. a major transformation for the site that has been this since the 1990s. the park director said the aging facilities are showing their wear. >> it's time. it's time to think about the next generation and the next century. >> reporter: at a party inside the old clubhouse, some long time members expressed mixed feelings about the clubhouse which they say will close the courts for a 84 and a half. >> the city could have done a great job renovating all these courts. it would have taken roughly two to three months. we wouldn't have lost a court. we don't need this. it is being done by the wealthy people in san francisco. >> reporter: supporters raised over three quarters of the costs itill becing for ar and they
