shootings resulting from the cow palace. in the east bay, rental car companies agreed to pay nearly $5 million to settle a lawsuit with alameda county. the suit claimed that e-z rental cars overcharged customers for repairs. they did not admit guilt but agreed to pay $4.6 million. about 500,000 of that will go to customers for refunds. the alameda district attorney said they've changed their practices and no longer violate state law. another settlement to tell you about. between apple and the mobile chip maker qualcomm. it is for technology used in iphones. it was, they claimed they charged an unfair amount for the patents. it includes an unspecified

abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley is live at the walnut creek b.a.r.t. station with the latest on the reaction to the ambassadors program idea. >> reporter: that's right. when we brought up this subject on abc7 news, we got a lot of responses from some very opinionated viewers and b.a.r.t. riders. of course, there were those who want more b.a.r.t. police officers, period, to improve safety. and there were others who seemed to love a less than intimidating option. what they see as less than intimidating. using ambassadors. >> reporter: they are actively launching a program for so-called ambassadors. potentially training new hires who may have formerly dealt with homelessness or addiction and having monitors trained to supplement b.a.r.t. police to improve safety. isaiah wrote, an ambassador cannot detain a suspect who
