officer body camera captured the heroic moments when an officer in tennessee saved a man from a burning pickup truck. the pickup had just clipped a police cruiser, then slammed into a flatbed. officer gary brown got the driver out and carried him to safety just as the pickup burst into flames. it's the second time officer brown has saved someone in his two years on the force. newly released body cam video shedding new light into a fatal confrontation between a man and police in north carolina. >> the officers were responding to a call about an armed man threatening people. after repeatedly asking him to drop his gun, the man appears to pull out a weapon. abc's steve osunsami reports. >> reporter: this police body camera video is disturbing and >> reporter: that's the voice of veteran charlotte police officer wendy curl telling 27-year-old danquirs franklin to put down his gun outside a burger king on march 25th. inside the car is the manager of the restaurant. police keep telling the obviously troubled young man to

drop the gun but he doesn't. just as it appears he's going to listen and put the gun on the ground, he reaches for it by the barrel. it is pointed away from the police, but in that split second, the officer opens fire. and he dies. >> he got a gun, he got a gun. >> okay, what's he doing with the gun, is he pointing it at someone? >> reporter: minutes earlier he was behind the counter at the burger king with the gun. witnesses say it was an issue with his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend. law enforcement experts say the shooting appears justified. >> you give commands until he drops the gun. it's as simple as that. when he moves the gun in a menacing fashion, which i believe that was, it's a different story. >> reporter: but there's more to franklin's story. in 2011 he was featured in the local newspaper. how he overcame being born with drugs in his system and was now going to college. he even helped author this book on mentoring black men. this officer remains on

it's time for "this happened!" it's time for "this happened!" a couple goes out on a fishing trip, looking to have a good time, you know. they're in australia. and then this happens. their suv gets stuck in the mud. they try to dig it out. they try to get it moving by putting things under the tires but they're not having any luck. and you can see that area, but what you can't see are crocodiles. and that happens to be a crocodile-infested area. so they're scared, i'm sure. i would be. so they managed to write "help." you see that in the bottom corner. "help" and an arrow pointing to the car. and then an air rescue team located them after seeing smoke and their sign of "help" and they were rescued. >> "castaway" style.

this morning on "world news now," the french vowing notre dame will rise from the ashes. >> millions of dollars in donations are already pouring in to rebuild the historic cathedral. as the investigation into the inferno intensifies, we're learning more about the bravery to save notre dame's treasures, including the crown of thorns, the religious relic with so much meaning for christians around the world. breaking overnight, a major manhunt under way. a woman is wanted for allegedly making threats to schools in the denver area. police say she's infatuated with the 1999 columbine school shooting. they'll decide overnight what actions to take to keep students safe today. also this morning a rideshare nightmare. a woman taken home thinking she was in a rideshare. but then the man followed her inside. hear what happened next. and calling all men with beards

to rebuild notre dame in five years and the money is already pouring in. more than $700 million in donations and counting. there are 50 investigators working to find the cause. >> priceless religious relics and artwork rescued from the flames have been carted away, some sent to the iconic louvre for safekeeping. overnight parisians devastated by the blaze gathered for a solemn prayer vigil. wabc has more from paris. ♪ >> reporter: after an incomprehensible day, scores of parisians joined together near their beloved notre dame and mourned a cathedral that for the better part of a millennium has stood at the heart of this great city. new video offers a dramatic look at the apocalyptic scene that faced hundreds of first responders. couldn't save the cathedral's spire or its wood roof. >> there's no roof, part of the roof has disappeared. and some water leakages

downstairs. and -- just a nightmare. >> reporter: so what happened in notre dame? first alarm sounded when tourists were still inside at 6:20 p.m. monday. inspectors searched the building then but found nothing. then came another alarm at 6:43. this time there were flames and it was too late. that 23-minute gap is now the focus of an investigation authorities say will be long and complex. >> i haven't got a lot of words. a bit lost for words. >> reporter: so many people were speechless today. then came news as devastating as this loss, a cultural catastrophe could have been worse. the cathedral is in fact structurally intact and french president emmanuel macron says he will lead the effort to build it back in just five years. >> translator: i deeply believe we are going to change this disaster and work together and reflect deeply on what has happened, what we are and what we can do.

>> reporter: the investigation into what caused this is still under way. authorities say they have ruled out arson, leaning instead toward a restoration project that went wrong and that right now is needed more than ever. >> our thanks to our friend josh. one thing to point out in the aftermath of all of this is that we talk about this cathedral, how important it is for paris. but it really is a symbol important for christians around the world and catholics around the world. and the fact that we know that so many tourists are americans who visit that cathedral every single year. so many donate to the upkeep as well of that church. >> again, the good news in all of this, as josh said there in his piece, that the building is structurally intact. they're vowing to rebuild in about five years. and so much money already pouring in to help that effort. so we will certainly see the all right, well turning to breaking news overnight, a serious threat just days before the 20th anniversary of the

massacre at colorado's columbine high school. >> right now police are searching for a woman they say is obsessed with the tragedy and made threats against schools in the area. the fbi says she arrived in denver from miami, left the airport, and went to a store where she bought a shotgun and ammunition. >> she's 18 and wasn't even alive when the columbine murders took place. we hear from danya bacchus, more than 20 schools around denver have taken emergency measures. >> reporter: the fbi is on the hunt for this woman, 18-year-old sol pais, claiming she is armed, extremely dangerous, infatuated with the columbine school shooting. >> she made threats to commit an act of violence in this area. >> reporter: tuesday police placing columbine and 19 other schools on lockout, keeping all students inside. the threat coming just days ahead of the 20th anniversary of the columbine massacre in which 12 students and a teacher died. authorities say columbine has seen an increase in the number of threats as the anniversary nears. there's also been as many as 30 trespassers a day.

the school a target of hoaxes since the shooting massacre. danya bacchus, abc news, los angeles. >> a big thanks to danya. and the investigation has spread across the country to south florida. >> the fbi has spoken to sol pais' parents in surfside outside of miami. the father says he lost contact with his daughter sunday. he's also urging her to come home and was quoted as saying, quote, i think maybe she's got a mental problem. her parents officially reported her missing monday night. president trump's legal team is preparing a robust response to the mueller report. a redacted version of the special counsel's findings from the russia investigation will be released tomorrow, and president trump's attorney rudy giuliani says within hours they'll put out a rebuttal dozens of pages long. the president was back on twitter denying collusion and obstruction, and white house officials are echoing that sentiment. >> we have meetings on any number of issues but we're going to read the mueller report like everyone else is going to read

the mueller report. we're just again not going to see the things in there that were promised. the things that people who you take seriously, i guess, and give a lot of ink and air time to still, said days before it was released that collusion is hiding in plain sight, it's right in front of me. >> sources tell abc news the president's advisers are most concerned that the mueller report will reveal previously unknown examples of potential obstruction of justice. they're also worried about witness interviews from current and former white house officials. president trump has vetoed a resolution calling for an end to military support for saudi arabia's war in yemen. trump called the bipartisan resolution an unnecessary and dangerous attempt to weaken his authority. the u.s. is providing billions of dollars for the saudi-led coalition fighting against iran-backed rebels in yemen. critics say the saudis are targeting civilians. police in philadelphia say a man used his car to intentionally strike people he'd been fighting with. they say the 45-year-old man tried to hit a group with his buick after an altercation. six were injured, at least two critically.

the driver was hurt after the incident when he was attacked by others. he's in custody and will face assault charges. dozens of people came out in eastern ohio to help in the search for a missing 14-year-old. jonathan minort was last seen saturday evening in carroll county near canton. relatives say he was doing some work on a farm when he complained of a toothache and said he was headed home. authorities are searching abandoned cabins and sheds in the area. it's a fairly quiet night in the western half of the country but storm clouds are gathering for the second severe weather outbreak in a week. >> severe storms will stretch from the texas gulf coast to the canadian border. the greatest risks are in texas, oklahoma, also from des moines sas city. >> the primary threat is large hail but these storms will also bring heavy rain, strong winds, and possibly tornados. the heavy rain in the northern plains means renewed threat of flooding.

>> a woman thought she was in a rideshare. she made it home but police say the fake driver followed the woman into her apartment and robbed her. abc's david kerley has the story. >> reporter: this is the man police are looking for who they say possessed as a rideshare driver. that woman had ordered a car and believed he was the driver. >> the car pulls up and i get into the car. he just said, you know, your address is not registering, which should have been alarm bell number one. >> reporter: when she got home the man demanded payment, even though she said she'd paid on the app. he then follows her into her building and then into an elevator, allegedly attempting to steal her purse. frighteningly similar to another rideshare case when a 21-year-old student, samantha josephson, got into what she thought was her uber ride in south carolina last month. her body was found the next day. the man posing as the rideshare driver charged with kidnapping ntents on "good morning america" saying, we all need to ask rideshare drivers, what's my name?

cathedral this way because. so i've been using more sophisticated technology these days to try to get new answers from the buildings. >> reporter: architectural historian andrew tallon painstakingly mapped notre dame and other cathedrals using laser technology. talon's efforts will likely prove crucial to rebuilding efforts. >> andrew's major mission was to make sure that as many people as possible understood the beauty of these gothic structures. >> reporter: lindsay cook of vassar college inherited the project after talon's death. >> this is something that's becoming more and more crucial, especially after the fire at notre dame. >> our big thanks to james there. and this is the next step in this story that we'll be watching as they do work to start rebuilding the cathedral. we know windsor castle was devastated by flames, 1992. five years later, it was rebuilt. a nearly $50 million project and
