white house is taking a victory lap after attorney general william barr has released the redacted version of the mueller report. >> what we've been saying for 2 1/2 years is finally totally vindicated. the president is completely exonerated. no collusion. no obstruction. >> reporter: the president is also claiming vindication. >> i'm having a good day, too. it was called no collusion, no obstruction. >> reporter: president trump defiantly tweeting, i had the right to end the whole witch hunt if i wanted. i could have fired everyone, including mueller, if i wanted. i chose not to. i had the right to use executive privilege, i didn't. the 448-page report details a 22-month investigation. special counsel robert mueller found no evidence of a criminal conspiracy between the president or his associates in russian meddling in the 2016 election. but mueller declined to clear the president of 11 possible instances of obstruction of justice. the report describes the moment the president learned that a special counsel had been appointed. the president slumped back in

his chair and said, oh, my god. this is terrible. this is the end of my presidency. i'm expletive. the report finds the president then tried to intervene in the investigation. the report says his efforts were mostly unsuccessful because the persons surrounding the president declined to carry out his orders. according to report, the president pressured the then-white house counsel don mcgahn to get mueller fired. the president called mcgahn and directed him to call the acting attorney general, rod rosenstein, and say the special counsel has conflicts of interest and must be removed. mcgahn recalled the president telling him, mueller must go. mcgahn refused, and would rather resign than trigger a saturday night massacre, a reference to the watergate scandal. at the time, the president denied he was trying to oust the special counsel. >> mr. president, have you thought about or considered leading to the dismissal of the special counsel? >> i haven't given it any thought. >> reporter: mueller wrote, if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts, that the president did

not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. legal experts say the report makes it clear there's significant evidence the president may have obstructed justice, even though it was not conclusive. >> it's hard to find obstruction of justice when you're talking about a president who has wide power and authority to fire someone. most importantly here, is they applied justice department precedent, which says that you cannot indict a sitting president. robert mueller made it clear that was very important. >> reporter: the report also finds numerous incidents where the president's aides made statements to the public that were not truthful. in may 2017, white house press secretary sarah sanders was asked about the firing of fbi director james comey, and claimed that countless members of the bureau had lost confidence in comey. but while under oath, sanders said that statement was not founded on anything. overnight, sanders responded to critics slamming her for lying to reporters. >> i acknowledged when i had a slip of the tongue when i used the word countless. it's not untrue.

a number of current and former fbi agents agreed with the president. >> so, what's next? there's already talk this morning of new subpoenas and more testimony on capitol hill. >> our serena marshall has more of what we can expect in the coming days. serena, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. while the report did not charge the president with any wrongdoing, politically, that is a different story. jim himes of krconnecticut says the report reads like "the godfather." another democrat called it a damning document that outlines misdeeds by the president. house judiciary committee chairman jerry nadler says it's now up to congress to hold the president accountable. >> the mueller report outlines disturbing evidence, that president trump engaged in obstruction of justice and other misconduct. the responsibility now falls to congress to hold the president accountable for his actions. >> does that mean impeachment? >> that's one possibility. >> reporter: and in a new statement, democratic leaders

nancy pelosi and chuck schumer say mueller's report outlines a president that has been weaving a web of deceit, ies and improper behavior. but you wouldn't know any of that because mr. barr has been so misleading. so, here's what's next -- congress gets to see a less reacted version next week. house democrats have subpoenaed to see the full report with no redactions. the attorney general william barr will face questions about the report when he testifies in front of the house and senate committees. and we could hear from robert mueller himself. democrats have asked him to testify by may 23rd. the mueller report also outlined at least 12 other cases being investigated by the department of justice and the fbi. these are cases we don't even know about. now, republicans are saying that it's time to move on. white house press secretary sarah sanders. breaking overnight, authorities near tampa, florida, are investigating a massive fire at a church in the town of brandon. one firefighter collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. the fire destroyed a building next to the main church. no word what caused the fire. meanwhile, new details about the man arrested at st. patrick's cathedral in new york with cans of gas and lighter fluid. officials say he had booked a one-way flight to rome. and earlier this week, he refused to leave a church in new jersey. they described him as emotionally disturbed. investigators in paris believe an electrical short circuit is likely the cause of the fire at notre dame. today's good friday observances will be held outside the church. wood planks are being used to support the walls and investigators have yet to get inside because of safety concerns. now, to the new trouble for facebook ceo mark zuckerberg. "the washington post" reports that federal regulators are considering whether to hold him responsible for his company's sources tell "the post," the ftc is looking into increasing

summons to three parents whose children were found unvaccinated. the city has also closed four more schools amid the current outbreak. meanwhile, in michigan, health officials confirmed they found patient zero, the unidentified man who they say spread the measles virus to dozens of people. a detroit rabbi posted this video to spread awareness. he says he recently recovered from measles after being exposed by a visitor at his synagogue. >> before we knew it, we had a first wave of 20 people in our community with measles. almost all of them between the ages of 30 and 62. >> reporter: freeman said he was shocked to learn that the vaccine he received in the 1960s no longer protects him. and he's not alone. the cdc says some people vaccinated between 1963 and 1967 should get revaccinated because it may no longer be effective. >> they had not perfected the vaccine until some times in the '70s.

after three officers shoot and kill a suspect. >> it happened just before 11:00 last night near washington hospital. that's on civic center drive and mowry avenue. reporter amy hollyfield is live near the hospital with what we know this morning. amy? >> reporter: hi, good morning. we are right in front of washington hospital. you can see police are still here on the scene, and they still have civic center blocked off. they are still here investigating. this did happen just before 11:00 last night. they tell us three officers were involved. they have confirmed that the suspect was shot and killed, but listen to the dispatch call from last night. you can hear as police talk that even after the shooting they were still on edge. they were moving in very slowly. >> the suspect has stopped moving but the firearm is under his right arm underneath his body. so we're going to have to hold here for a few.
