put it in gear and take off. next thing you know, the phone is in your hand! stop! we should be holding the wheel, not holding the phone. it's a busy world out there. and we're all in it together. go safely, california. good morning, bay area. let's get up and get going. good morning and thanks for waking up with us. i'm chris nguyen. we have more on the forecast with lisa. >> not only gray, but damp in spots. we are looking at a cold front that is situated offshore. it is bringing the winds in. pretty gusty in the upper elevations. breezy around the bay. and here we're looking at some rain, look at the north bay, where novato, highway 101, san rafael, looking pretty wet, all the way up to petaluma. this will continue to sweep into the bay, pushing south and east and a few drips down through

mill valley. and even the peninsula, we've had some reports over in oklahoma, fremont, pacifica, so a breezy day out there with the thick marine layer to get going. 55 in union city. and 53 in berkeley. and we'll be looking at some partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. these winds are going to sweep the cold front through the bay area but it is brisk, and winds gusting to 36 miles an hour san francisco. and so your forecast today, calls for 50s upper 40s with that dense fog, and mist, drizzle and maybe some light rain and then we will clear out, partially, temperatures will rebound into the 60s, but it will be a windy afternoon on the coast. only in the 50s. we'll talk about a warm front for your easter and the week ahead coming up. chris? >> she is a, thank you. in san francisco, disturbing video obtained shows a woman being dragged by one of muni's new trains when her arm got stuck. the state has launched a probe into the safety of the fleet. abc 7 news reporter liz pena spoke with officials about the

incident. >> it is a horrific scene. a woman can be seen walking up to the muni train and the doors closing in and part of her hand is stuck and a muni employee speaks with her but the train pulls away. the video was obtained by the san francisco examiner. >> possibly her finger. the door closed, with less than half of an inch of space between the door and the doorjamb. when she reached her hand for the door. >> even after this, sfmta says the sliding doors in their new don't trains are safe and showed us how they work. >> there are sensitive areas in the doors that can detect when a hand or object is in the door preventing it from closing. >> what happened? >> in this case, it appears that the door had less than half of an inch to close. >> this is not the only problem with the new fleet of muni trains. a pin holding two cars together snapped in mid ride. >> we have decided not to couple the trains, with one car into a

two car train, until we get answers as to exactly what's going on with this shear pin. >> but after this incident, the california utilities commission says it's investigating, and will inspect both the pin system and the sliding doors. >> my understanding is some of the operators actually flagged that this was an issue. and they were concerned about it. >> now, it is a good reminder, the california public utility commission did inspect six months prior to approving them. happening today, crowds will be lining up across the bay area, for 4/20 day. pot smokers have deemed april 20th as a holiday to celebrate marijuana but it is sparking warnings from police. abc 7 news reporter amanda dell castillo has the story from santa cruz. >> the dispensary here has seen plenty of foot traffic ahead of the saturday 4/20 celebration. >> i think it is the biggest celebration ever. >> and not only does it fall on a weekend but the first 4/20

since recreational marijuana use was legalized in california. >> everybody can walk in the store and buy their own product and before, it was all, you know, i don't know how to say it. >> he is looking for the words illegal, or heavily regulated. at ucsc, the university has made very clear, it stands against the annual smoke-out. in years past, tens of thousands of pot enthusiasts have made a meadow on the far outskirts of campus the place to be on 4/20. >> schools stressing it is unsanctioned. stressing they don't want people to partake. they are offering alternatives. >> options that include a sober space. >> a message out to the campus community details enforcement efforts which involve uc police and chp santa cruz. laws are listed. possessing, selling, or smoking weed and even driving while high are all against the law. those we spoke with say the warning does little to stop the celebration. >> i don't think it is deterring anyone, honestly. >> the calendar might say april 20th but for marijuana advocates it is their annual chance to

gather by the thousands to smoke it. >> it's just hanging out with friends in the end. >> we've also reached out to the city of santa cruz police department who say it will be business as usual for them. the increase in patrol will come from uc police. at ucsc, abc 7 news. in san francisco, up to 20,000 people are expected to converge at golden gate park's hippy hill for a smoke-out event. street closures southeast of the park go into effect at 10:00 this morning with special shuttle buss to help alleviate traffic jams and there will also be designated areas for both uber and lyft to prevent gridlock. >> glass, drone, alcohol, pets and weapons are not allowed. a florida man has been charged with rendering east bay congressman and presidential candidate eric swalwell as well as other democrats and he called the offices and cory booker and congresswoman tlaib. and he left a voice mail at

swalwell's office saying the day you come after our guns is the day you will be dead. in the east bay, heart broken friends and family came together to remember a star high school football player. the 18-year-old disappeared after he fell off a boogie board at a beach in half moon bay on thursday. we have more from heyward. as the sun set at heyward high, teammates and friends gathered for a vigil. >> and russell winston iii has known him since grade school and says he was an ambitious young man always motivating his peers. >> he was always workinged a an preaching how important grades were and studying first. >> and he fell off a boogie board off the coast of half moon bay. due to strong currents and high waves, his friends weren't able to rescue him.

his body still hasn't been found. >> he always showed love to people around him. he wasn't afraid to be friendly to people. >> those who came out remembered memories. and the jersey will be given to his family. >> he was a great young man. he was loyal. and persevered despite circumstances in front of him. >> the coach described him as a monster on the field. he broke several school records. and he recently earned a full scholarship to play at the university of wyoming in the fall. >> he was a great football player. a great teammate. a great friend. a great captain. and it's a testament to his parents. and the job they did raising him. and the values they instilled in him. >> i spoke with family friends who say that his friends spent all day friday at the beach hoping his body may still turn up. the benicia toll plaza is two booths short this morning after a fire. a box truck caught fire

yesterday afternoon, and flames spread to tollbooths six and seven. the toll plaza is located on the martinez side of the bridge. which connects contra costa county, and solano counties. the booths are destroyed. you can see it here. thankfully no one was hurt. a chp spokesperson says they're looking into how long the repairs will take. it is not clear what caused the fire. in san francisco, crews are making progress, on repairs to the sales force transit center. officials say work on the fremont street portion will finish up this weekend. in order to remove some construction material, a section of fremont street will be closed overnight for a month this. starts tomorrow. all work on the center is expected to be done by june. but there is no set date to reopen the transit center. for those craving one last run down the slopes at tahoe, you are in luck, there is still snow up in the sierra as you can see from the video taken yesterday in south lake tahoe. several of the resorts are still open, thanks to our extremely wet winter that spilled over into spring. a few places in the mountains even saw a gusting earlier this

go in. >> reporter: last friday we introduced to you a very talkative little girl with hearing loss named alicia lyding. >> what did your phonak do? >> lets me hear. >> she uses this device in school to hear her teacher, when it was stolen, the almeda county sheriff's office surprised her at home with a visit and promise to do her best to catch the suspect. if that weren't enough, exactly one week later, another surprise was waiting at her audiologist's office. >> it allows the hearing impaired person to help pull out of that background noise what you want to listen to. >> reporter: phonak's president had seen the original story and wanted to help alicia have the best tools to learn, sent her an even better state of the art phonak than the one at school, one she could keep for herself, ad use at home. >> it will be the best day ever. >> reporter: the surprises and good news don't end here.

>> are you ready? >> reporter: they continue at the almeda county sheriff's office with alicia's favorite sergeant. >> did you make us cookies? >> reporter: sergeant kelly and team made good on the promise, helping catch the thief who stole it and who was involved in ten other burglaries and wrote a letter of apology to alicia. >> he was very sorry and would have never stole continue had he knew how important it was to you. >> reporter: in a way, as others helped alicia, she too had an impact on the suspect's life. >> he admitted to his mistakes. and so hopefully this is a turning point in his life. >> reporter: the story is one alicia won't soon forget. >> the police found the thief and saved the day. >> reporter: a story of kindness, from the community and beyond. in almeda county, dion lim, abc 7 news. >> coincidentally, alicia's school also just received a replacement phonak for the classroom. alicia says she wants to be a police girl when she grows up to

help catch the bad guys. time now is 6:14. the future of the almeda, the oakland almeda county coliseum site is coming to a head. on tuesday, the county board of supervisors will vote on the a's offer to pay $85 million to buy out the county's interest in the property, which it co-owns with the city of oklahoma. a's president says the team has big plans for the site. >> this is an important step in our process to make sure we can build a privately financed stadium at the water front and honor east oakland with a great new development in that part of the town. >> the a's coliseum development plan calls for keeping oracle arena and leaving the baseball field intact. but bringing down the stadium around it. then building housing and commercial buildings. the traditional easter ham might cost a little more this year. pork prices have gone up steadily. and hit an average of $4.31 a pound last month. that's the highest since march of 2015. part of the reason for the spike is because of a disease killing hogs in china.

shoppers have noticed but many tell us it won't stop them from making sure they have a ham on sunday. >> it was 50-something years ago, 52, 54, and now 58, for the same seven pounds. >> and now, meanwhile, the easter egg hunt could be a little cheaper. an increased supply of eggs has led to prices dropping in recent weeks. happening today in the north bay, the city of sausalito will hold its annual easter parade. it starts at 10:00 this morning at the johnson street fire station. it will make its way down caledonia street to robin sweeney park where the egg hunt will be. children nine and under can take part. also happening today, the winchester mystery house in san jose is hosting what it calls the most bizarre easter egg hunt in the world. 5 thousand eggs will be hidden in the victorian garden along with 13 golden surprise eggs. sara winchester was intrigued by the number 13 and repeated the number throughout the house. the event is free. it starts at 10:00.

weather-wise, off to a cool start to the day with some parts of the bay area also seeing some mist and drizzle. let's send it over to our meteorologist, lisa is tracking the forecast. >> live doppler 7 tracking rain, yes, we are as we are, as the cold front works its way into the bay area today, bringing gusty winds, much cooler temperatures, here's live doppler 7, with the rain showers, from east of highway 1, moving towards vallejo, and out of marin county, but you can see the front that is offshore, and this is providing some light rain from heyward to pacifica, drizzle in oakland, and mist, right along the coast. delays of 28 minutes on arriving flights at sfo, with visibility at about a mile along the coast. so it is kind of a murky start out there. here is mount tam. with all of the cloud cover. if you're headed out for a bike ride or to walk the dog, you certainly could see some drizzle out there. 53 downtown. and as well as oakland, 56 in mountain view. and sfo, some of the delays, not

too bad. but you can see how gray it is out here on the peninsula. it is going to be cool and breezy today. 54 in fairfield and the winds are gusty. through the delta, with 53 there. and 56 in concord. this is walnut creek. it looks a little bit brighter here and we will get into partly cloudy skies for everyone this afternoon. so fog and clouds, mist and drizzle to start out, even some light rain, dramatically cooler inland today. and milder for easter, much warmer by the middle of next week. here's tomorrow. where without the wind, the 60s and 70s are going to feel a lot warmer. 74 in oakland tomorrow. with mid to upper 60s around the bay. and look what happens monday, a ridge of high pressure takes control of our weather, and the winds will back off. in fact, turning offshore, allowing for 80s. and 70s around the bay and warmer tuesday. and mid-80s, it could be even warmer wednesday, and even into thursday, it's going to stay mild, to warm, around the bay, today 69 in concord and warm up significantly for your sunday. and then almost getting hot out

there with mid to upper 80s, feel can like summer. cooler by next weekend. we will look for gusty winds in the upper elevations. 28 miles an hour now. look at mount diablo. over 35 miles an hour. and also the oakland hills, so it is definitely going to be a blustery start out there. low cloud deck. that marine layer about 2,000 feet and then thins out to the southeast, that front will go, it will scour out the atmosphere, and we will get in some sun, but it will be blustery, northwesterly winds behind the system. no matter how you look at it with partly cloudy skies it is a cool afternoon, with low to mid 60s from san francisco, to the peninsula, upper 50s half moon bay, and mid 60s, to upper 60s, in san jose, and about 70 up in the north bay. japantown, cool and breezy today. low 60s. and sunny and milder tomorrow. in the mid 60s. and the accu-weather seven-day forecast, just 50s with gusty winds at the coast today, and upper 60s around the bay, and turning partly cloudy, it is going to take a while though, and then tomorrow, a warmer day, and nice and bright, for easter,

and the sun is going to stay with us all week long, the wind shift, that brings a big time warmup the middle of the week, the coast will be pleasant. but it is going to get toasty around the bay and inland, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday, still some 80s, and then we cool off by next weekend. >> glad to see some sun in the forecast for easter under. >> wild swings. >> of course. thank you, lisa. new this morning, an overload of cats is forcing one animal shelter to take action. the santa cruz animal shelt ser offering all cats at half price adoptions are usually $120 for kittens up to 12 months old and $100 for adult cats between one and six, and $55 for cats older than six. but the shelter will offer discounted rates through the end of may, and the price includes spaying or neutering, vaccinations, worm treatments, micro chip, collar, and an i.t. tag. just ahead, winter comes to the bay area. what a game of thrones star visiting the san francisco area is revealing about a key cliff hanger.

morning, earth day is monday. yosemite national park is kicking off the earth day festivities today. in honor of national park week, which also starts today, admission to the park is free. there will be music, games, and other actives at yosemite village. smokey bear will hold a meet and greet and visitors can enjoy spectacular views at yosemite. no entrance fee today but camping and other fees still apply. in contra costa county, anther earth day celebration in richmond. the ninth annual event includes several community service projects, free food, performances, a petting zoo and live music, it runs from 11:00 to 2:00 this afternoon at shields reed community park. winter is coming for "game of thrones" fans and one star from the hit show made an appearance in san francisco. abc 7 news was at the at&t store on powell street where isaac hempstead wright met with fans last night. the store was filled with propso

thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. we're waking up to some mist and drizzle across the bay area. here is our meteorologist. the current conditions where you live and you're tracking some fog for us. >> good morning. live doppler 7, where you can see the green. we also have light rain just in spots, the mist and drizzle come in with the gusty winds out there, and as we go in closer, you can see from the north bay, napa, and as we go further south, a little bit in southern marin, but reports from pacifica, over in fremont, and those gusty winds, compliments of that deep marine layer. and sfo some delay, and gusts to 36 miles an hour, and a look through the delta, and wind

gusts of 31, with an indicator of much colder air. a live look from our east bay. you can see all the fog in the upper elevations. 52 san francisco. morgan hill. 54 half moon bay. a blowy-looking mount tam. breezy, cloudy and cool. with temperatures in the mid 50s in concord. 53 in livermore. so the plan today will be the clouds, the wind, the mist and drizzle. light rain to start out. and then by the afternoon, look what happens. those gusty winds clear out the skies. but it is certainly going to be chilly. look at the north bay. low 60s, 1:00, still in the 50s with the cloud cover in the east bay, and the peninsula, and through the afternoon, it will get sunnier, but the wind will still be with us. the coolest day of the week, dropping into the 50s by 9:00 tonight. a violent storm barrelling through the south has killed an 8-year-old girl in florida. it's also threatening to bring tornadoes to the carolinas and virginia. a tree fell on to a house yesterday in woodville, florida, killing the girl and injuring a 12-year-old boy. the same storm is being blamed

for three deaths earlier this week in mississippi and alabama. the governor of mississippi has declared a state of emergency. the worst of the storm is over. but there may be flash flooding throughout the weekend. developing news, senator elizabeth warren is the first presidential candidate to call for the house of representatives to start impeachment proceedings against president trump, after a redacted robert mueller report found no trump campaign collusion with russia around the 2016 election, but mueller did find the president did make several attempts to interfere with the investigation. senator warren said it would be damaging to ignore the president's repeated efforts to obstruct an investigation into his own disploil behavior. new body cam video shows a dramatic rescue of passengers inside two burning cars in new jersey. >> come here. give me your hand. come on. >> i'm on fire. >> give me your hand. give me your hand. >> four state troopers pulled the victims out of their burning cars just seconds before they completely go up in flames. the officers were honored for their heroism for saving all

four passengers. two of those victims were badly burned. today marks the 20th anniversary of the columbine high school shooting. the attack left 13 people dead in the town of liliton colorado. there will be community service projects and a ceremony to remember the 12 students and teacher who were killed. this comes after an 18-year-old from florida who police say was obsessed with the 1999 shooting dooip died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound near the school. on a lighter note, it is not spring without some peeps. the easter treats come in all shapes and colors and at the factory in pennsylvania, they make millions every day. >> we make 5.5 million peeps per day, which is about 2 billion peeps per year. >> they're like a marshmallow on steroids. >> it is not easter without peeps. >> obviously, you weren't a very good child that year. >> it takes me back to being a kid again.

she really had coming if any. >> she says yeah, you have a check for $58,000 and i just about, my jaw just dropped, i couldn't believe it. >> we were there when julie called the fund finder back to tell him the good news. >> i have to say i thought the whole thing was a scam and i didn't think there was anything to it. i'm going to cry. so i thought i had know problem paying you your 10% so i want to pay you your 10% so i wanted to call and try to make your day. >> the fund finder declined to speak with us, saying he didn't want any publicity. julie, has sent him a check for $5800. >> it's an amazing service. and you know, it's a great opportunity. i mean more people should do it. >> i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. if you ever get a call like this, be careful. look up the phone numbers yourself. and double check the web sites referred to. and make sure they are who they claim to be. some scammers send money to unsuspecting victims, and convince them to send back money, days later the victim
