by noontime, upper 60s in the inner valleys around danville, and around the bay, we're looking at emeryville. sea breeze around 20 miles an hour, so still cool there, but look at the numbers inland. upper 70s by 4:00 and low 70s bayside. we'll talk about the big warm-up underway tomorrow. chris? pope francis celebrated mass at st. peters basilica in the vatican this morning. ♪ >> tens of thousands of people filled the square for easter mass. in his "to the city and the world" speech, the pope offered a pardon for sins and a reflection on the world's war-ravaged areas. he also showed faith to the catholics who pray with

teddy roosevelt. >> his face will light up at 6:00 a.m. for the easter service when he talks about his love. >> i was married here to my wife kathleen so it's near and dear to my heart. i live in the neighborhood and it doesn't get any better than this. >> reporter: but what is a love story without some turmoil? this cross had its fights. in 1991, several organizations sued the city of san francisco for owning a cross in what was then public land. >> the city worked out a plan whereby they would auction off the top part of the land here, thereby separating church and state, so this part of the top of the mountain is owned by the council armenian organizations of northern california. >> reporter: as part of the deal with the city, the cross can only be lit on april 24th, armenian remembrance day, and on easter. elizabeth and james perez are looking forward to it. >> an annual easter hike up here to see the cross. >> reporter: how many years have you been doing that for?

>> probably about five years. >> reporter: during world war ii, more than 50,000 people gathered together at san francisco's highest peak. this year they're expecting 500. >> it looks like the weather is going to be nice so it should be a good turnout. we've got great music, we've got salvation army brass ensemble, we've got bagpipes at dawn. >> reporter: this will be the annual 7th non-denominational sunrise service where the cross is seen by many as a landmark and others as a religious symbol will still be hard to miss. in san francisco, luce pena, abc 7 news. >> in san francisco, glide memorial church is holding an all-day easter event. today's message is about liberation and redemption with two services. there will be a hot breakfast served this morning and a fried chicken meal for lunch. the church serves those who might not have a place to go on the holiday. the glide church has provided meals and health care for those

in need for more than five decades. an emergency task force is on the lookout this weekend and they'll be cracking down. here's more on their strategy. >> we will be beefing up our personnel within the city and joining forces with the oakland police department. >> reporter: the crackdown is on these side shows plaguing east oakland. just last sunday, an ac transit bus and a big rig were set on fire. the truck driver was then carjacked. >> we were dealing with vehicles set on fire and trying to help navigate the oakland fire departnt to deal with what was going on. >> reporter: in other words, the police were understaffed and overwhelmed. this time they promise things will be very different. >> if we find you and we catch you, we're taking you to jail. >> reporter: cat brooks is a community organizer.

she worries what the crackdown will mean for minority youth. >> if you do actually apprehend people involved in side shows, what are the alternatives to incarceration we can offer our young people? >> reporter: still, many believe the side shows are getting more violent and scaring young people. they want to heavily fine participants, impound their cars for a month, and make even driving and watching a side show a crime. the mayor co-sponsors the bill and wants police to do more. >> i am paying their salaries to protect my neighborhoods and they need to deliver. >> reporter: they will have a meeting about the side shows on tuesday. in oakland, abc 7 news. it turned into a rescue effort to save a 7-year-old girl on a floating unicorn. she was blown halfway across the lake. kayakers saw her and brought her

to the shore of the big island. she was wearing appropriate flotation devices during all this, as you can see with the deputy who helped with the rescue. a body pulled from the bay friday night has been identified as a missing man from merced county. 28-year-old tyler collins was recovered about nine miles north of where he vanished. collins first disappeared march 26 while swimming at rockaway beach. they searched for 15 hours before the search was called off. his family told merced sun star they hired a helicopter and boat to keep looking. in the east bay, a car wash fundraiser raised money for the oakland family involved in a deadly hit and run last wednesday. family members along with the fire department department 55 took part in the fundraiser. they were killed when a car hit

them at 26th avenue. bo the boy's uncle was also hit and is in critical condition. the money raised will help the family. >> anyone who wants to give, we're just there to support. people from other cities around have been here to support the family. >> police have identified the driver as oc allen. he has not been located. they have already repainted the crosswalk where the accident happened and will make a new pedestrian island this week. what ipos in san francisco-based companies could mean for the city's really market. they published new data from a software engineer who combed through real estate records. he found more than a thousand workers expected to hold ipos this year, just 37 bought houses in 2018. with a possible influx of cash from the ipos, many more workers

random strangers in the park. >> reporter: city rec and park officials are trying to prevent what happened at last year's 4/20. >> about a dozen people ate fentanyl-laced marijuana edibles and they had to be revived with narcan and taken to the hospital. >> reporter: later in the day, check out how long this line was to get into 4/20. end -- mendocino pot f f f f f f balboa was here. >> it's everything and more. the flower brings beautiful people together. medics took two people to the hospital. officials said those injuries were not related to fentanyl. the wind may have been too much for trees yesterday. this tree snapped off and crashed down to the sidewalk yesterday afternoon. the public was asked to avoid

the area while crews worked to clear the debris. just down the street a huge tree came down on fillmore. the tree blocked both lanes on the street for a short period. weatherwise, there are changes ahead for the work week. we'll get to those in just a little bit, but lisa argen is tracking the doppler for this week. >> the fog on the san mateo coast over into the east bay. it will be compressed because high pressure is building. it is certainly cooler in spots. as much as 11 degrees cooler. 49 here in oakland, 47 mountain view. it's 48 in san jose with 47 in morgan hill. half moon bay 48. mt. tam looks nice and still. 45 up in santa rosa, but the cool spot in napa, 44 by the delta and the wind yesterday was howling 20 to 25 miles an hour

through the delta. that's always an indicator of a cooling trend. 50 in concord, livermore 47 degrees. with the light winds, the clear sky, the cooler morning in san jose with 11 degrees, maximum cooling in napa. just a few areas of fog floating around here in the distance, but plenty of sunshine on the way, bringing us up to milder conditions in the city. getting on the warmer side in the city, so we'll be in livermore, concord, danville, also up in napa and much warmer for everyone beginning tomorrow. in fact, we'll see temperatures hot. the good thing, though, it is still early in the season and we will cool off for the overnight lows. we won't hold onto that heat, and it will be cooler by the weekend. let's jump ahead and see what we can expect. as soon as tomorrow the 80s arrive, indicated by red in the inland valleys. getting warm close by the bay. mid to upper 60s. warmer than today, obviously,

and then into tuesday with that offshore flow, that sea breeze s cut off. we're well into the 80s in san jose and concord. look at clear lake, 88 degrees. maximum heating on wednesday where numbers will be even warmer, flirting with 90 degrees in some spots. near 80 in oakland, near 70s in san francisco and the cooling only getting underway at the coast on thursday. here's a look at napa. upper 70s today. the average high 69 and look at the next three days, monday, tuesday, wednesday, well into the 80s. that is several degrees above average. almost 20 in spots if we get even higher, and then looking at really not much of a cooldown on thursday. you're going to be right at the shoreline to notice that. it's friday and saturday when that trough will move in. in the south bay today, 74 in santa clara, look for 67 in san mateo. downtown a beautiful afternoon. it's 65 degrees. north bay numbers in the mid to upper 70s.

the president is calling the special counsel highly conflicted. he's also lashing out against aides who gave statements to the team. he said the investigation itself should never have been authorized. following the public release to the mueller report, counselor to the president, kellyanne conway, and adam schiff, with george stephanopolous this week. 20 years since the massacre at columbine high school. 12 students and one teacher died in the mass shooting. it wasn't the first school shooting, but two decades ago it signalled a cycle of deadly and tragic incidents including sandy hook and parkland, florida. students say this year's remembrance hit them harder. >> this year for some reason is a lot harder. i don't know if it's all the media outpouring that it's 20

years. >> the massacre prompted many schools to write crisis plans and hold active shooter drills. a search is on in riverside county for a woman caught on security cameras throwing seven newborn puppies into a garbage heap. this is video from a napa auto parts store in coachella. the woman drives up to a dumpster, peeks inside and then puts the puppies inside. a good samaritan spotted the woman and brings the puppies in to animal services. the puppies are only three days old. the woman could face animal cruelty charges if caught. also in california, riverside place found one of the largest marijuana farms ever in the community. police raided a property saturday the size of a city block. they found 40,000 marijuana plants growing inside a large greenhouse. its estimated street value, $20 million. no arrests have been made. neighbors said the land was sold

six months ago and the new owner put up a fence, then the strong permanent odor started coming from it. he assumed police would have been alerted to the growth site from the smell. street closures in staff sapphire due to repairs being made at the center.nter the closure began last night. this will impact a one-block stretch of fremont between howard and mission. track steel beams forced the center to close back in september. repair work is expected to be done by june but there is no reopening date set for the center. the second episode of the final season for the cultural phenomenon "game of thrones" is tonight. the hit show has a big bay area connection. a cal grad actually created the languages in the show. kate larson explains. >> reporter: we're a long way from westeros on the uc berkeley

in san jose, two entrepreneurs have their sights set at the "shark tank." no, not the hockey rink, but the booming business show "shark tank." we learned how much the two sisters put into preparing their pitch. >> megan's creamery is a small business with big plans. sisters gwen and christine nguyen knew nothing about baking when they started, but they created a special sandwich dessert between two macaroons. they auditioned for and got selected for abc's "shark tank." >> we're from san jose, california and we're seeking 40,000 in exchange for 10% of our booming business.
