burglary and attempted murder of a police officer. police say the suspects were trying to break into a storage area at the genesis company. officers say the men intentionally rammed into a police car injuring an officer. police opened fire as two suspects ran away. a thi on a car chase into brisbane. all three were caught and arrested. the injured officer was not seriously hurt. happening right now, officers are cracking down on illegal side shows in east oakland. >> oakland police and alameda county sheriff's offices are joining forces to beef up personnel. just last sunday, ac transit bus and big rig were set on fire during a side show. the truck driver was carjacked. police were understaffed and overwhelmed but this time they promise things will be different. >> if we find you and catch you, we're taking you to jail. >> some worry about the impact incarceration could have on minority youth, in oakland say the side shows need to to be dealt with. a crash involving a fire

in the north bay two kayakers stranded for more than two hours in frigid waters after capsizing are safe today. 21-year-old kayakers called 911 after capsizing near the richmond san rafel bridge after 8:00 p.m. last night. the coast guard, chp and four different fire agencies launched search and rescue teams. a helicopterer found the kayakers two and a half miles away. rescue crews say the life jackets they were wearing likely saved their lives. abc 7 news is committed to covering issues that affect us all as we continue to build a better bay area. just in time for earth day, an

east bay county is launching a pilot project to end illegal dumping on streets. they will spend two hours gathering trash tomorrow morning in oakland. then, at 11:30, details of the program will be released alongside oakland mayor and other community leaders. the pilot program includes neighborhood surveys that will be used to bay area, an event in the east bay today that celebrated easter, earth day and the effort to make sure no one goes hungry. the guild track held its people usually show up for the event. there was an easter egg hunt for the kids and the event also featured a workshop from farmers discussing climate change and food justice. >> right nowhungry. we're trying to change that. >> the farm manager says since it began in 2014 it has grown over 80,000 pounds of produce, mostly given away to people in the community who don't usually have access to healthy food. now we do want to heard your
