>> thank you. witnesses helped catch a murder suspect in morning in pittsburg. sky 7 was over willow pass road there was some sort of dispute between the suspect and a victim. the suspect showed up at a business to confront the suspect. there was an argument. police say posey went and got a gun and shot the man several times. witnesses kept posey from escaping until police arrived. funding for new san francisco muni trains is on hold tonight after a woman was dragged on to the tracks. this video obtained by the san francisco examiner shows the woman getting her hand caught in the door of the train earlier this month. he was dragged on to the train tracks below. abc7 news reporter chris reyes is live with why officials are still keeping those trains in service. chris? >> good afternoon. extra scrutiny now that this video shows exactly what happened to that woman. but muni officials insisting to us that these trains are safe,

despite not having that extra safety mechanism that they eventually plan to install on all the doors. now we told muni riders that, showed them the video. they weren't happy to hear about it. the security video was obtained by the san francisco examiner, clearly throwing a woman running for door, getting her hand caught, and the train keeps running. it happened april 12 at embarcadero station. >> don't really like. >> what don't you like about them? >> they don't seem safe to me at all. oh my god! well that's pretty dangerous i'd say. >> san francisco supervisor matt heaney says the board is now holding off on giving muni the $62 million they asked the city to fast track to get them 151 new trains. the seaman's made trains were first rolled out in 2017. >> of course we want to see what they're going to do to do further testing, what additional safety measures they can add to

days. i'll have the complete forecast in just a couple of minutes. >> thank you. african american activist are speaking out against a campaign ad that they say is insulting. the tv ad compares a housing bill known as sb 50 with the displacement of thousands of african americans in san francisco. state senator scott wiener authored the bill that would permit more market rate housing near transit stations and override local zoning ordinances. wiener calls the ad misleading and offensive, a sentiment echoed by african american leaders. >> we don't need anyone to pimp the african american's pain for petty political gain. >> the ad is paid for by a s activist. sb 50 will be considered by a senate committee this week. a controversial proposal for a navigation center along san francisco's embarcadero takes a big step forward tomorrow. the port commission is scheduled to vote on a resolution that would authorize a contract with the department of homelessness and supportive housing.

it recommended the approval of the center that would bring 130 beds to the lot at embarcadero and bryant street. the original proposal called for a 225 beds, but city officials revised the plan after neighbors voiced concerns. happening now, a hearing is under way in the state capital to look at charging visitors to drive down lombard street. the proposal is being considered in the transportation committee. the bill allows san francisco to charge a $5 toll and create a reservation system for cars to pass through the crooked section of lombard. the strip attract morse than two million visitors every year. in the south bay, former theranos ceo elizabeth holmes was back in court today. abc7 news was there as she arrived for a hearing in federal court in san jose. holmes is accused of falsely claiming her company had developed a high-tech blood testing method that could be done with just a single drop. prosecutors have been pushing for the judge to set a trial date. today's hearing was continued to

miles from mussel wrong. gusty winds are believed to play a role. 911 dispatchers have a new way to locate people calling from a cell phone. uber is activating a new emergency feature in san francisco that allows 911 dispatchers to automatically see key information. this includes the uber drive's name, the rider, current location, vehicle description, and even the direction of travel. the rapid sos software that makes this possible allows the dispatcher to access the phone's location much like other apps already do. we are committed to building a better bay area. >> earlier this year governor newsom cut the money for a high speed railing connecting the bay area to the central valley, leaving some people to dub it a train to nowhere. >> now some bay area leaders are questioning whether this will have a chilling affect on housing as well as jobs, why some local leaders are hopeful high speed rail will still be built.

>> in california's central valley, there is a big transportation project under way unlike any other in the country. droneview7 got this bird's-eye view of the high speed rail project under way in madera, just north of fresno along state route 99. >> this is the first high speed rail system in the nation. >> diana gomez is regional director for the high speed rail authority in fresno. she showed the massive amount of work already under way approved by voters in 2008. the original plan was to build a 520 rail line that would put los angeles and san francisco less than three hours from each other. it was estimated to cost $33 billion and be complete by 2020. that was an optimistic projection. >> currently our goal is to have a train up and running as soon as possible between the city of merced and the city of bakersfield. and we already have 119 miles under design and construction. >> the project is years behind

7 on your side's michael finney recves ll rds a deals with every one. >> he does, absolutely. michael is here now with a few of those complaints and how they were solved, michael. >> yeah, a couple of interesting ones. this first one comes from janice in redwood city who is trying to fix a hole in her roof. home depot reroofed her home 14 years ago. it came with a 20-year warranty. she called home depot, and it started the process of getting the repairs done, but she never heard back. so janice called 7 on your side. we contacted home depot, and a contractor was sent right now. the next resolve comes from dana in the east bay who mailed important documents which included her passport and greencard to the consulate of egypt down in los angeles. now she claims ups lost the package because the consulate said it never received it. with her overseas coming up,

it's a time to celebrate our planet and demonstrate support for environmental protection. the annual event started in 1970 after wisconsin senator proposed the idea as a way to educate the country about the environment. now that's also the year congress created the environmental protection agency and passed the clean air act. now there are many ways we can all reduce our energy use and help the environment. joining us now is kate brant who is the sustainability officer at google. thank you so much for coming in today. >> thank you so much for having me. >> happy earth day to you. >> absolutely. happy earth day to you. >> thank you. the earth climate we know is changing in ways that will impact everyone living on it, now as well as in the future. so really, what can we do to change that? >> absolutely. so at google, we really strive to build sustainability into everything that we do. and that both goes for how we operate as a business, but also the role that google technology can play in really enabling everyone, businesses, policymakers and individuals to drive more positive impact for our planet. so we have a great new tool that

we've launched with the california academy of sciences that's called your plan, your planet. and it really focuses on the major areas of impact that we have, which are food, energy, water, and then also how we use our stuff. so we're trying to give people science-based easy tips and tricks they can use at home. >> maybe things like sustainable seafood. >>that is a piece of it. on food what we're particularly focused on is food waste. you may know, about a third of food globally is wasted which is just terrible. and it's not just that the tomato that might be bruised or the eggs that are almost expired that you're going put in the trash. it's also all the energy and water that went into the production of that food. so one of the things that we have in our tool your plan, your planet, when you get home from , where do you put them?

and then you can have tastier, fresher food, and you can really reduce your food waste. >> make it last long sorry it doesn't go to waste. >> exactly. >> why is it so important to google? talk about the drive behind that. >> at google, our mission is to organize the world's information and make it useful for people. and what we found is that people really care about sustainability, but they don't always know where to begin. so we think it's really critical to give them easy science-based tips and tricks they can use in their daily lives. >> i think a lot of people want to help, but they don't necessarily feel like they can personally make a difference. but really everybody can in a small way, and that builds up to a great change, hopefully. >> that's exactly right. that's why we've tried to lean into the science, to give things people can do that will really have impact. another area we look at in the tool is water. what we found is the average american household uses about three olympic-sized swimming pools of water every year that adds we can reduce that, it's big impact.
