have deliberately plowed into a group of pedestrians. >> police arrested the driver. a live look this morning, nearly 11 hours after the crash it is still blocked off in the area on el camino real and sunnyvale saratoga road at 6:40 last night. police say eight people were standing on the sidewalk when the car drove into them. the front of the car mangled. the victims were taken to the hospital, some with serious injuries. the car was seen speeding through the busy intersection before plowing through the group. police say sunnyvale between el camino real will be closed until 8:00 this morning. anser hassan is at the scene and will give us a live update in the next half hour. we've learned a skateboarder killed in a crash in san francisco may have been holding on to a truck at the time. that is according to some people who saw the crash along seventh

the ferry building. this is such a controversial topic that people spoke out during the public comment section during the meeting for four hours. supporters say they need to do what they can to get people off the street and point out there are 1,000 people on the waiting list to get a sheller bet. critics say it will bring crime and other issues to the area. >> people who are drug addicts allowed to live there. drugs are not allowed within the center itself. where do you think they're going to be doing it? outside in the neighborhood itself. >> this is a good, temporary solution to provide a respite from the street and a platform to be able to move beyond homelessness. >> reporter: the city of san francisco currently has six navigation centers. they're different than a typical homeless shelter. pets are allowed. people don't have to leave right away in the mornings, and they get connected to various services to help get them back on their feet.

the port commission voted unanimously to allow a center here but neighbors promised to fight and say they are considering filing a lawsuit to stop this. reporting live, amy hollyfield, san francisco news. san francisco's board of supervisors approved a pilot program to help people who are living in their cars or rvs. "the chronicle" reports the overnight safe parking pilot program will create a triage center where those people living in their vehicles can park overnight and have access to showers and bathrooms. mayor london breed has committed $1 million to fund the program. the city will need to propose a site within three months. we want to hear your ideas about building a better bay area. join our group on facebook. new this morning parents in lafayette can expect to see more police around they say someone tried to lure a

jessica? a man and woman will not face child endangerment charges after police found their children locked in what they thought were cages. the district attorney says the kids were inside cribs modified to be stacked on top of each other. the parents say they did it to keep the 3-year-old from dangerous objects inside the home. although the endangerment charges are dropped the couple faces misdemeanor charges of meth possession. there's a new effort to improve nail salons in the south bay. a campaign today calling it glam it up right. the county supervisors want nail salons to use nail polish removers and thinners without toxic substances promoting those with good ventilation and nail tech who is wear gloves and masks. at least 120 have passed and are called healthy nail salons. >> 19 hours down and 40 more to go. >> i have so many questions.
