indicates this was an intentional act. >> the driver purposely sped up. purposy tried to hit the pedestrian. >> i need units out here. >> a short time ago, police confirm a driver deliberately plowed into a group of people in sunnyvale last night. police are asking the public to pray for one of the youngest victims so isaiah peoples as the driver. they say drove that car intentionally into a group of pedestrians. >> eight people were hurt. one is in critical condition. a 13-year-old girl. police say this does not appear tonight an act of terrorism. >> people is facing eight charges of attempted murder. let's begin with abc7 news reporter chris reyes who talked to people who saw what happened.

>> reporter: good afternoon. well, the crash scene has been cheered now at this busy intersection surrounded by shops, restaurants, and apartment buildings. last night the witness we spoke to was standing right on that street waiting for the light the turn green when this unfolded before his very eyes. >> i stopped waiting for the light the change. this car came through really fast. and really close to me. he went right through the crosswalk. i saw bodies flying. i saw this one bott body, i'll never forget this image. this woman was thrown into the airtion flipped upside down, her feet straight up, and she fell right in front of my car. almost hitting my car. >> reporter: he was at this intersection of sunnyvale and saratoga when it happened. >> i was enraged. i got out of my car and i ran after the driver. when i got to the car, which was smashed up, as you see in the picture, steam coming out. and the door was open and i said

to the, i yelled at the driver, what the hell are you doing? what is the matter with you? and he was sitting there and he was saying, over and over again, thank you, jesus, thank you, jesus. thank you, jesus. it was clear. it was not slurred speech and there was no accent. completely unaccented. so at that point i went and i called 911. >> draper took thissing that of the alleged driver who ended up outside of his car face down on the ground. he said the driver continued to say, thank you jesus. >> never made eye contact. he seemed to be in a strange state of some kind. >> was there any indication at all that this driver knew anybody? >> no. no indication. i saw no indication.

haze on the atmosphere and that's what we see when air quality dechines across the region. soot is a biproduct of combusti combustion. think about your fire place burning. the chemicals that exit your car. even the black ash left over from your fireplace. these teeny soot particles, they can linger in our atmosphere.atp when they accumulate, they affect the air quality. they can exacerbate the problem by tracking the soot near the surface. it is one of the reasons we're asked to car pool, walk or bike. when you add in either fog or even some teeny water particles in the atmosphere, that can trap the soot. we call that combination smog. you have likely mattered word a lot in the summertime. smog creates hazy skies in the summer months. they can linger for days.

capitol to make it harder for parents to opt out of vaccines for their children. a new bill to approve all medical exemptions and create a database. supporters say some doctors are simply selling vaccination exemptions to parent. >> we have schools that are no longer safe because they have so many medical exemptions, they cannot protect the children who attend that school from the outbreak of disease. that's why we have to step in. >> parents who oppose the bill say it will make it harder for medical special i haves to protect children and provide needed medical exemptions. the centers for disease control says as of today, there are 695 cases of measles reported in 22 states. the highest amount, the highest number in 25 years. stay with us. the warriors gear up for what they hope is their last game against the clippers.

see the heel. >> just get it done tonight. thank you. another problem for san francisco's shuttered transit center, the roof top needs to be replaced. after months of repeatedly patching it up, authorities have determined it is beyond repair. replacing it could cost more than $1 million. the pathway began falling apart even before the transit center opened in august. the discovery of crack steel beams shut down the center six weeks later. and crews finished fixing the beams above fremont street. now they're working on taking down the temporary shoring system that has been helping to hold up the central ever since it closed in late september. all repairs are scheduled to be done by june 1st. no date has been set to reopen the central. and hoping for donations after thethe, the the the the tt converters were stolen. style over the being, the
