into pedestrians. the suspect, isaiah peoples, was booked into the santa clara county main jail yesterday. a jail source tells abc 7 news because of the crime it's likely peoples will be put into a dorm for the severely mentally ill or undergo a psych evaluation. dps says it hasn't uncovered a motive but maintains this was no accident. >> we are recommending eight counts of attempted murder based on evidence obtained from the scene. a 13-year-old girl remains in critical condition. she is one of eight injures. anser hassan will have much more on the suspect including what his shocked family says about him. b.a.r.t. is trying again to record your license plates. >> its previous attempts failed. what's changed?

amy hollyfield with our answer. amy? >> in this proposal they are setting limits on how long they keep your information and who they share it with. the idea is to put these cameras at the b.a.r.t. parking lots and they would capture license plate and images for every car that comes into a b.a.r.t. parking lot. the hope is this would help cut down on crime and help riders feel safer. it says the license plate information cannot be shared with i.c.e., or any agency, conducting immigration enforcement. the first rider we talked to about it this morning says she is okay with the idea. >> i don't think it's a bad idea. there's a lot of crime on b.a.r.t. and i'm afraid every day. >> reporter: here is a look at the problem that b.a.r.t. is trying to address.

doing. isaiah was a government audit contractor for the department of defense living in sunnyvale. he went to james logan high school in union city and graduated from sacramento state in 2012 with a degree in accounting. in iraq, isaiah was a gunner. when he got back, according to his family, that's when he started to show signs of posttraumatic stress disorder. his mother says her son has a clean record, but the family says four y iiaas treated in a mental hospitl for a few months after lapsing on medication. >> he has never been ihe's neve. he's never been to jail. he would wake up singing church songs. >> reporter: the family says he didn't drink or use drugs. police say he did not show any signs of medical issues when he was arrested.

stakes summit on nuclear weapons between russian president vladimir tu putin and kim jong-un. they came face-to-face for the first time ever in russia this morning. putin says he supports kim's efforts to normalize north korea's relations with the united states. putin also says the talks should help better understand what russia could do to support those negotiations. pg&e wants to raise electricity bill. that proposal will be up for discussion. recent wildfire disasters recently drove them into bankruptcy. today the california public utilities economic will review two be possie outcomes. the first would deny pg&e's plan to hike rates for the time being. the second would be to grant part of pg&e's request but cap the rate increase at $373 million. the warriors have to head back after failing to close out the

look what's back. you see the cloud cover hovering? yep. it's going to cool us off today. these areas that haven't hit 90, going to have to wait for another day. look at the drop in temperatures today. we're anywhere from five to ten degrees cooler, and the closer you are to san francisco the more likely a ten-degree drop. and tomorrow we'll be pretty much the same temperatures with 70s around the bay, 80s inland and 60s as we head to saturday, maybe a couple degrees cooler along the coast into san francisco and sunday temperatures in the 60s and 70s. most of the 80s gone by then. so we're getting closer and closer back to spring. all right. we do have a traffic alert here this morning. sky 7 almost to the scene. we have some low clouds and some fog that are really just delaying that view for us this morning. i'll show you on our traffic maps instead. a sig alert northbound 101
