russian president vladimir putin. kim continued to push for security guarantees in order to end his nuclear program. and he accused the u.s. of acting in bad faith at the summit in hanoi. putin offered to discuss details of their talks with the u.s. baltimore's embattled mayor is facing growing calls for her resignation. that's after the fbi and irs agents raided her home and offices thursday. catherine pugh is under scrutiny for the sale of her self-published children's books to entities that do business with the hospital where she was a board member. she is on paid leave for health issues. police say a deadly crash near denver is, quote, true carnage. more than a dozen vehicles including at least three semis were involved in the fiery accident on interstate 70 in lakewood. authorities say a runaway semi slammed into stopped traffic setting off an explosion. investigators say there were multiple fatalities. at least ten other people were injured.

and this morning we're learning how a 5-year-old illinois boy died as his parents face a judge on murder charges. the coroner says that aj freund died from multiple blunt force injuries. investigators say the boy was forced into a cold shower for an extreme period of time, extended rather. his parents allegedly wrapped his body in plastic and dumped him in a shallow grave in the woods. they are each being held on a $5 million bond. time now for a look at your weather on this friday morning. good friday morning. things quieting down across the southern plains, however, more showers and storms from florida up the atlantic coast into new england. the best threat for anything severe is going to be from philly southward to myrtle beach. damaging wind gusts, flash flooding, even a few tornadoes can't be ruled out. out west it's the big-time heat, 90s in the interior desert, some spots close to 100, and as we head into friday night through saturday night, perhaps some snow from the dakotas into the great lakes.

now word that havlicek has passed away. he reportedly had parkinson's. john havlicek was 79 years old. a former florida police officer was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a black man. musician corey jones was heading home when his car broke down on a highway off-ramp in 2015. he was on phone when officer nouman raja approached. the confrontation escalated once raja noticed a weapon. he was a licensed gun owner. prosecutors say he feared raja out of uniform was a robber. a fake german heiress is facing eight years in prison. prosecutors say anna sorokin stole a quarter of a million dollars from bank, hotels and friends. it was all to fund a lavish new york lifestyle. she was acquitted of one of the most serious charges, attempting to steal more than $1 million from citi national bank. sentencing is scheduled for may 9th. sorokin is also facing deportation for overstaying her visa.

university in los angeles taking that measure over a possible exposure. abc's matt gutman has more. >> reporter: that measles scare racing through two of the biggest university systems in the country. many dozens possibly exposed to what is considered one of the world's most contagious viruses. >> we have five cases, four of which are linked as an outbreak that stem from a traveler who was unvaccinated. >> reporter: that traveler coming in from abroad apparently going through los angeles airport. one of the busiest in the world on april 1st and then going on to ucla with its 45,000 students to the psychology department on three days in early april. >> a few of the cases have been in other places attending, you know, ucla classes as well as being in the library, and as a result of that, we have a high number of contacts that may have been exposed. >> reporter: that cal state library, one of the most visited

spots on campus. >> 2,000 visitors in that library a day. most of them don't sign in or out, so we've had a lot of exposure to folks that we actually can't identify. >> reporter: over 300 students and faculty now under quarantine at the two universities with no access to public areas or dorms. >> if they are not immune to measles, then they must be kept away from others in order to not have that unintentional spread of measles should they come in contact with others who may not be immune as well. >> reporter: the measles is an exquisitely contagious virus. it can linger in the air for two hours. its incubation period is 21 days so a lot of those folks are going to be stuck in quarantine for at least a few days, and some of the older faculty may have a hard time finding their medical records showing that they've been vaccinated. they could spend up to two weeks in quarantine. matt gutman, abc news, los angeles. >> our thanks to matt. ntsb investigators will be

outside chicago today at the scene of a chemical leak that sent a toxic plume into the air sickening dozens of people. a tractor was towing two large containers of ammonia when the leak occurred. although local police are not saying exactly what caused it. people living in or driving through the area say the air was so thick and the smell was so strong that they couldn't breathe. >> we couldn't see beyond the first step here. it was that thick. we couldn't see three feet. it was heavy -- it was like a fog but it was real strong. >> went around and made sure our windows were shut and the storm windows were tight. >> first responders among the 37 people sent to the hospital. seven are in critical but stable condition. one firefighter is suffering what doctors describe as life-threatening injuries. the land of the free and the home of the brave apparently comes with a whole lot of pressure. a new gallup poll says americans are among the most stressed out people in the world. people across the globe were

winter. >> isn't it amazing when the sea breeze kicks in how drastically it changes our temperatures? let's see where we end up this afternoon. low to mid-60s into francisco, mid to upper 70s around the bay. and mainly some low 80s inland. we will hit mid-80s around concord, antioch and santa rosa. we have some fog out there. it's thicker than yesterday and more widespread. we'll take a look at that up next. first a look at the commute. we are starting off with trouble in the east bay looking live at caltrans. we've got a crash involving, i believe, three vehicles total. it sounds like one vehicle was driving recklessly and caused this collision. that first vehicle hit the barrier on the right side and then a semi swerved to avoid hitting that vehicle and hit another sedan. the three right lanes are blocked. we do have injuries and we have a backup.

it's not huge yet but getting through the short stretch from highway 4 to get past the scene that will add a few minutes to your commute. next update in a couple >> alexis, thanks. in the east bay a violent crash into an oakland daycare as dozens of children and staff were inside. this happened near 86th avenue and a street yesterday afternoon. luckily no children were hurt. police say the driver is facing carjacking and assault charges. here is ama daetz. >> reporter: kids were inside the children's center on the corner of 86th avenue and a street. a witness told abc 7 news she saw a shirtless man yelling at daycare staff after they refused to let him pick up his kids. shortly after the suspect carjacked a woman at a nearby church and rammed the daycare. >> i ran inside and everybody hid. i was in the closet with parents

and kids. everybody is crying. >> our officers were immediately on scene as he was climbing out of the car, he started to run. our officersimgalarounea no children were out there at the time. they were able to arrest him. everything happened so quickly. >> reporter: the suspect has a stayaway order from the daycare. 45 kids attend the school and 15 staff on duty. no children were hurt. one female staffer was injured and treated at the scene. >> it was so scary because you never expect something to happen like this where there's children, churches and a whole bunch going on at the time. >> reporter: ama daetz, abc 7 news. >> a wild story. glad the kids are okay. 4:30 right now. a quick update on your weather and traffic. mike? >> hi, everybody. the fog is up in the north bay, santa rosa, petaluma, and even in the south bay it's down around gilroy right now.
