yellow already, 33 minutes. ten minutes across the bay bridge into san francisco. no delays southbound 101 san francisco to sfo. happening today the man accused of intentionally crashing into eight people in sunnyvale will make his first court appearance in santa clara county. >> anser hassan with a closer look at one of the victims. anser? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and jessica. when isaiah peoples makes his way into court today he faces eight counts of attempted murder. according to court documents he'll be charged with using his vehicle -- his car as a deadly weapon and with malice. the 34-year-old isaiah thomas is an iraq war veteran. police say peoples has shown no sign of remorse. the 13-year-old girl remains in critical condition. another victim returned to the

site. >> it was just like two seconds so i did a quick move. that's what saved my life. >> peoples' family says isaiah suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder. police say he showed no signs of a medical issue after the crash. >> thank you. and the abc 7 news i team has dug into peoples' background. his brother told us he was under intense pressure at work as an auditor for the department of defense in mountain view. he was nearing the end of his probationary period after being hired there and was an ariraq w veteran. he tried getting his degree at sacramento state after that but his family says ptsd started

causing him to act out. if police give any more updates in the coming days, we'll live stream on our website and abc 7 news app. developing news, an oakland police officer is recovering from surgery after being stabbed. it was about to enter the parking lot when officers say the suspect suddenly came up to him, stabbed him multiple times. he was dressed in plain clothes and not a uniform. the officer was stabbed in the neck. the suspect was arrested immediately and the weapon was found. new developments in the case of a gruesome san francisco murder. the friends and family members of the victim are angry and frustrated after watching the person of interest walk out of jail. kate larsen has the update. >> reporter: last august brian egg's mutilated remains were found inside his home.

on wednesday lance silva, a person of interest in the case, was released from jail. >> shock and disgust. >> reporter: scot-free lives on clara street across from egg's house. he spoke to us after learning of silva's release. he says he frequently saw silva at egg's house in the months before egg was found dead. >> he was frantically cleaning up the place. >> reporter: officers finally searched egg's home after neighbors said a crime scene cleaning crew was at the house. police found egg's body in a fish tank without a head or hands. the san francisco district attorney charged silva and another man with egg's murder but dropped the charges and on wednesday silva was released from jail in the east bay. >> i don't think the police are doing anything about it. >> reporter: he helped egg's

family file a missing person's report last summer. >> i guess i'm not angry because i expect nothing more. >> reporter: he was angry to learn of silva's release. sfpd says egg's murder is still an ongoing active investigation and that mr. silva remains a person of interest. kate larsen, abc 7 news. in the south bay a teacher has been put on leave because of suspected ties to a white nationalist group. an instructor in san jose, a watchdog group is accusing scheuerlein of being part of a group for the unite the right rally in charlottesville in 2017 where a counterprotester was killed. the school says any membership or affiliation with a racist group of any kind is not only against our conduct standards, it is in conflict with our mission.

if proven true, these allegations are not acceptable and will not be tolerated. new details in the deadly ghostship warehouse fire trial. opening statements are expected to get under way tuesday. defendants derick almena and max harris are charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter each for the fire during a music party in 2016. the they say they are being made scapegoats. the man serving a 40-year federal sentence for kidnapping denise huskins will be back in court on the state charges he faces. matthew muller's return is for a readiness conference and a trial setting. he faces state charges of kidnapping, rape, robbery, and burglary for the bizarre 2015 case. muller pled guilty on federal charges. police originally called the case a hoax.

all the way through about 6:00. the east bay will make a run into the 80s after starting off in the 50s. heading out at lunch, about 75, 76 degrees. the south bay starting off in the 50s at 7:00. we're in the mid-70s by lunch time and near 80 for the better part of the afternoon hours. heading out this evening, very comfortable. 74 degrees. take a look at the rest of the weekend in less than seven minutes. it looks like we're starting to improve with our situation in hercules. we have not gotten official word on lanes opening up. this was a three-car crash that happened a little bit after 4:00. it does look like we have a couple tow trucks on the scene. chp is still there as well and more lanes starting to open up. not as many brake lights. those volumes are moving a little bit here. westbound 80 right around pinole valley road.

morning. number one, the army veteran accused of intentionally running down people in sunnyvale is scheduled to make his first court appearance today. 34-year-old isaiah peoples was headed to bible study when police say he mowed down eight people tuesday night. an oakland police officer who had just left work is recovering from surgery after being stabbed in the neck. our media partner, the east bay times, says a woman was immediately arrested. number three, good news in the east bay, the crash in hercules westbound 80 past highway 4 cleared up. everything back open now. we do have residual delays. you can see traffic volume heavy through the area. we're at 20-minute delay. down to 10 minutes now. your utility bill is going up again. pg&e's request for a rate increase has been approved. the utility is trying to cover the cost to remove millions of dead trees in the years 2016 and 2017. >> number five, uber releasing new details about its ipo.

for some state employees. one california lawmaker introduce add the san diego area assemblyman's proposal would be a voluntary pilot program for state agencies. he does not believe it would cost taxpayers any money. a san francisco board of supervisors committee has given the thumbs up to a new bill that would ban cashless brick and mortar stores and restaurants. the proposed law exempts food trucks, pop-ups, ride shares and many professional services. backers of the proposal say cashless stores discriminate against the poor by requiring credit or debit cards that many low income residents can afford or can't get. the full board will hear the bill and a final vote is scheduled for may 7th. we're in the end game now. "avengers: endgame" officially opens today. >> fans lined up last night. many theaters are showing the movie around the clock this weekend because of the high

good look, guys. >> they're pacing themselves. more widespread low clouds and fog forming. we'll keep an eye on that. you can see the exploratorium is more indicative of some may gray or june gloom. and it's keeping us in the low to mid-50s this morning. the coast will be in the upper 50s to low 60s. just a few hints of sunshine. the rest of us will get increasing sunshine, not quite as bright as it has been. low to mid-70s at noon. 76 to 82 at 4:00 and then the nice evening right around 70 degrees. alexis? good morning, mike. taking a look at the south bay, we're cruising along okay here in san jose. northbound 101 at 880. we're filling in on the northbound side. those volumes are still fairly light at 5:31 in the morning. we do have one collision in the south bay. that is the southbound side of 101 near capitol expressway. sounds like a two-car crash.

one vehicle spun around and that is facing the wrong way blocking the left lane. no major delays through that stretch. we did have some big backups yesterday. highway 101 in san francisco is back open this morning after a cement truck overturned and caused a big mess. gravel spilled onto the highway and then it fell down on a parked car along tenth street. the driver did have minor injuries but no one else was hurt. cal trans sent inspectors to make sure it was structurally sound and opened just before 11:00 last night. developing news in oakland. an officer has undergone surgery after a woman stabbed him as he walked out of work. >> that attack happened at jefferson and sixth streets. reporter amy hollyfield in the newsroom now. >> reporter: it sounds like the officer will be okay, reggie. police haven't said why he was attacked. he had just finished his shift and walked a block east toward his car when he was stabbed.

he was dressed in plain clothes, not in uniform. he was almost to the police department's parking lot when someone suddenly came up to him and stabbed him. he was stabbed in the neck. we're told he's in stable condition. the stabbing shook up do this j where we are responding to an incident where somebody has been shot or stabbed or a violent crime has occurred. when it happens to one of your own, a family member, one of your team, as you know, law enforcement is very close family, it's disturbing and upsetting. >> reporter: police arrest add woman for the stabbing, and the weapon was found. fellow officers put the injured officer in a patrol car. they rushed him to highland hospital. we can see several officers were there at the hospital waiting together, wait to ing to see th officer, waiting to see his family. they were there for hours.

the chief of police was also there sitting with the officer's family. we wish him well. we are hearing that he is recovering and is in stable condition. live in the newsroom, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. we do wish him well. amy, thank you. the army veteran accused of intentionally running down people in sunnyvale is scheduled to make his first court appearance. >> isaiah peoples was head to go bible study when he mowed down eight people tuesday night, ages range from 9 to 52. they say peoples has not shown any remorse. the motive of the crash remains unclear, and he faces eight counts of attempted murder. in the east bay a violent crash into an oakland daycare as dozens of children and staff were inside. this happened near 86th avenue and a street at the highland children's center yesterday afternoon. a witness tells abc 7 news she saw a shirtless man yelling at the staff after they refused to let him pick up his kids. shortly after the man carjacked a woman at a nearby church and

rammed the daycare. >> i just ran inside and told everybody so everybody hid. i was in the closet with parents and kids, everybody is quiet. i didn't go outside until the police came and they got him. >> the suspect has a stay away order from the daycare. no children were hurt. one staffer was injured and treated. he faces carjacking and assault charges. if you ride muni you may have noticed late buses and slow service. now we're learning the reason for the problem. muni drivers are refusing to work overtime. "the examiner" says it's a bid to put pressure at the bargaining table. wait times extended past 20 and even 40 minutes. they are offering a 99 cent an hour pay raise but the union says that's not enough. they are legally barred from striking but can't be forced to work overtime. >> your utility bill is going up

again. pg&e's request for a rate increase has been approved. the utility wants to cover the mopey spent in 2016 to 2017 removing millions of trees that died during california's drought. the puc approved the request but ruled pg&e has to raise the rates over time. they can't just do one bulk increase. how much and when they're going to do it we still don't know. the decision outraged the utility reform network. >> even if this money was devoted to safety, that doesn't mean they did it right because they certainly haven't done things right in the past. >> pg&e says it spent in 2016 and 2017 will be audited to determine if the costs were reasonable. coming up on 5:37, somewhere within that seven-minute window, let's talk temperatures. dress for 49 in daly city, pacifica. across the bay 55 in oakland.
