weeks. we do know p study with his cla. one of the victims returned to the site yesterday. he talk about what he heard after the crash. >> he started yelling, thank you, god, for giving me this opportunity. i love you, jesus, over and over again. it just got me mad. i was like, what opportunity are you talking about? the opportunity that you almost killed people? >> reporter: police say peoples has shown no sign of remorse. his family says he suffered from ptsd. reporting live, anser hassan, abc 7 news. the i-team has dug into peoples' background. his brother told us peoples was under intense pressure at work as an auditor for the department of defense in mountain view. he was nearing the end of his probationary period after being hired, and peoples also was an iraq war veteran.

he was discharged as private first class in the army reserve. he tried getting his degree at sacramento state after that, but his family says ptsd started causing him to act out. we've been updating the story or our website. if police give any more updates in the coming days we'll live stream on the website and our abc 7 news app. developing news, an oakland police officer is recovering after surgery after being stabbed. the officer had just finished his shift about to enter the parking lot when officers say a suspect suddenly came up to him and stabbed him multiple times. he was dressed in plain clothes. he was not in uniform. our media partner the east bay times says the officer was stabbed in the neck. the suspect was arrested immediately and the weapon was found. new developments, a person of interest in the gruesome murder of a san francisco man has been released from jail. last august brian egg's mutilated remains were found inside his south market home.

police released lance silv t se. he was serving time in jail for an unrelated parole violation. police say silva used egg's debit card to pay cang crew to clean egg's home. the d.a. initially charged him and another man with murder but then dropped the charges. a friend of the victim tells abc 7 news he does not expect the police to take action. >> i'm not angry because expect nothing more. >> police tell us this is an ongoing investigation. developing news, facebook is facing three separate investigations over its privacy practices. looking into the breach of hundreds of millions of pass words stored as plain text. a second investigation claims facebook broke canadian privacy laws after the cambridge analytica scandal.

a look at the weekend forecast for our beaches, low to mid-60s and a lot of cloud cover especially in the morning. 68 to 72 santa cruz. temperatures about a degree cooler except for the north bay. we'll see more sunshine sunday. happening today the sharks will take on the colorado avalanche at the s.a.p. center in game one of the second round of the stanley cup playoffs. tickets are still available on the sharks website for tonight's 7:00 p.m. game. according to espn two nhl referees will not be working the second round of the playoffs after a controversial call in the sharks' first-round series finale. they gave the sharks a five-minute power play after san jose captain joe pavelski was checked and fell onto the ice. san jose trailed las vegas 3-0 at the time.

and go. let me get this camera flips so you can see the traffic we are stuck in. this is highway 24 in orinda. we are approaching that orinda exit heading toward san francisco so we are westbound, and we are crawling along. number one and number two lane are blocked because of an overturned chevy. chp says there were major injuries in this crash. this happened at 5:39 this morning. so an hour has passed by, an hour of traffic has backed up. so you want to be aware of this if you're heading into the city from the east bay this morning. this is going to slow down your commute significantly. we did hear reports that the tow truck was getting close. these a good sign this could be opening up soon. when i did ask the chp officer for an estimated time of reopening, he said none has been given. they're not even estimating yet when they'll get this cleared up. just keep this in mind if you can find another way to get to

work, maybe hop on b.a.r.t., delay your departure time. just plan accordingly. there's a major slowdown here. we are crawling along right now. we're not even going 5 miles per hour as we approach this accident. reporting live from highway 24 in orinda, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you for the update. we want to go to developing news now in oakland. an officer has undergone surgery after a woman stabbed him as he walked out of work. police have not said why he was attacked. just after 5:30 yesterday evening at jefferson and sixth streets. he had just finished his shift, was walking to his car when he was stabbed. the officer was dressed in plain clothes, not in uniform. he was also leaving work and he was in the police department's parking lot when someone suddenly came up to him and stabbed him in the neck. the officer is in stable condition this morning. the attack has shaken up the police department.

>> we do this job every day where we are responding to an incident where somebody has been shot or stabbed or a violent crime occurred. when it happens to one of your own, a family member, one of your team, as you know law enforcement is a very close family. it's very disturbing and upsetting. >> police arreste a woman for the stabbing and the weapon was found. in the east bay a violent crash into an oakland daycare as dozens of children and staff were inside. this happened near 86 avenue and a street at the highland children's center yesterday afternoon. a witness tells abc 7 news she saw a shirtless man yelling at the staff after they refused to let him pick up his kids. shortly after the suspect carjacked the woman at a nearby church and rammed the daycare. just run inside and i told everybody. everybody hid. i was in the closet with parent

like so crazy. and then i didn't go outside until the police came and they got him. >> the suspect has a stay away order from the daycare. no children were hurt. one staffer was injured and treated. the driver faces carjacking and assault charges. pay pal is facing a gender discrimination lawsuit over an alleged bromance. our media partner "the mercury news" claims a vice president denied her a promotion because he gave the job to a less qualified man that he had a, quote, bromance with, and that he showed favoritism to male workers. she says she was fired for pushing back against the discrimination. pay pal says it's reviewing the lawsuit. if you ride muni, you may have noticed late buses and slow service. the reason drivers are refuse to go work overtime. "the examiner" says wait times

extended past 20, even 40 minutes for some buses. the city is offering operators a 99 cent per hour pay raise. the union said that's not enough. drivers are legally barred from striking but can't be forced to work overtime. >> your utility bill is going up again. the public utilities commission has approved pg&e's request for a rate increase. the utility wants customers to cover the $373 million it spent in 2016 and 2017 for removing millions of trees that died during california's drought. the puc approved the request but it ruled pg&e has to raise rates over time instead of making one big increase. the when and how of all of this, that hasn't been determined. the decision outraged a group called turn which is the utility reform network. >> even if it was devoted to safety, it doesn't mean they did it right because they certainly haven't in the past. >> what pg&e says it spent in

sure enough, nope, no delays. good news there. a look from mt. tam. this is something you're used to seeing all summer, the sun above the marine layer. mostly sunny away from the coast and cooler by the afternoon hours. highs will remain above average until next week. we'll have more sunshine and temperatures back in the 60s and 70s. we still have a few 80s hanging on in the south bay. low 80s there. 82 santa cruz. mid to upper 70s for most of the peninsula. the closer you get to millbrae, san bruno, hillsborough, those areas, you're going to be a little bit cooler in the low 70s. low to mid-60s with a few peeks of sunshine along the coast. more sunshine downtown, south san francisco, sausalito, pretty comfortable. we have upper 70s in the north bay, but the farther north you go you start to hit mid to uer 80s around santa rosa, calistoga. 73 to about 78 along the east bay shore. orinda, 80. hercules at 75. low to mid-80s in our valleys. if you're going to the game,

that did make it to 680, unfortunately. some better news in the south bay, northbound 85 before winchester, sounds like that turned out to be a three-car crash and that one has cleared to the side as well, although residual delays remain there, too. a quick check of drive times, 28 minutes westbound 80 and highway 4 to the maze. no delays across the bridge or to sfo. a family in placer county wanted to get a closer look at grazing shem but the animals had other ideas. >> this is a huge mistake. >> you're looking at a stampede that invaded a home after the man opened the backyard gates. they tried to get the flock back to the grass lands. the mom jumped on a trampoline while playing a tambourine. >> yes. now jump up and down. yes!
