police say the man behind the wheel tuesday night was headed to bible study. tonight we're hearing from his church for the first time. in san francisco, hundreds of muni riders were stuck this morning. we'll tell you what happened. in hayward, one of the most brazen crimes we've seen caught on camera. >> you've got a giant love for avengers but a tiny bladder? when you should go. abc 7 news starts right now. police across the bay area are searching for one man wanted for two murders today. one in oakland on market street, the other hours later in san francisco's bay view district. >> they are warning you this man is armed and dangerous. police say this is their suspect, stefan jefferson. oakland police released a photo

of him and san francisco police released these images. >> the first shooting 10:15 this morning in oakland, a man was shot several times, pronounced dead at the scene. >> the shooting in san francisco happened around 1:30 to aurelius walker drive. witnesses told officers they heard a pop and saw a man lying on the ground. he died at the hospital. >> police also released this image of the car they believe the suspect, stefan jefferson, is driving. the license plate is 7wvy390. late tonight police agencies corrected the reports to say they're looking for a toyota camera, not a corolla. >> san francisco police did confirm they are working with oakland police as they investigate. if you see the car or jefferson, call police immediately. a suspect is also on the loose after another deadly shooting today in the east bay. this one in berkeley. san francisco police say they're aware of it but are not working with police there. a man was shot in people's park around 2:45 this afternoon. he died later at the hospital.

police say it was not a random act. in the south bay, the man accused of intentionally running down eight pedestrians in sunnyvale made his first court appearance. afterward investigators dropped a bombshell. >> based on our investigation, new evidence shows that the defendant intentionally targeted the victims based on their race and his belief that they were of the muslim faith. >> 34-year-old isaiah peoples didn't enter a plea. his arraignment was postponed until may 16th. amanda del castillo is live at hall of justice with the latest. >> reporter: isaiah peoples was arraigned on eight counts of attempted murder. four of those carry enhancements for causing great bodily injury. that 13-year-old girl, she's still in critical condition. a bombshell statement from the sunnyvale department of public safety. the chief says tuesday's crash

could have been racially motivated. >> new evidence shows that the defendant intentionally targeted the victims based on their race and his belief that they were of the muslim faith. >> reporter: the council on american islamic relations says many muslims already question safety at mosques or in head scarves, adding tuesday's crash brings that concern to city streets. >> people may not realize this but the victims were not muslim. they were mistaken for muslim by the assailant. >> reporter: police say peoples was on his way to bible study. his family and friends describe him as a religious man. we connected with his congregation, renewal church in sunnyvale. lead pastor ulysses wang shared this statement. peoples first came to our church roughly one year ago. we've never witnessed any behavior from him that would lead to us suspect that he could do something like this.

want muni to make permanent changes so this doesn't affect them again. it's been one thing after another for muni from manpower shortage to equipment failures today. muni riders say they're glad the week is over. >> i got on it, did not move for a while, got off it. >> reporter: the problem started when an overhead wire splice failed and the train ended up pulling down 1,000 feet of wire and hardware. >> downed overhead loins in the subway between powell and civic center stations. so immediately we stopped subway service and ran bus shuttles. >> reporter: sky 7 got footage of dozens of riders waiting for the shuttle. this shuttle was the next option for everyone that was stuck. we're here with rosa. >> i work in west portal. i live downtown. i had to take an uber. >> reporter: 5:30 p.m., 11 hours later, confused were still confused and waiting. >> it is true the n and the j are not coming.

we had after seeing this video posted to youtube. a car stops in the middle of a hayward street. a passenger gets out of the back seat and steals this cut saw from sean wood's construction crew and gets back into the>>s go. just grab and go. >> reporter: in the video, dated april 22nd, you can hear the disbelief of the driver in the car behind at what's unfolding before his very eyes. >> it was unbelievable. >> because these tools are industrial strength, they're valued way higher than the average consumer-grade model. this can go over $1,000, making it an easy target. >> it's pretty common. a lot of commercial landscapers have people following th, d ste ironically, east bay lawnmower, which has been selling chainsaws and cut saws since before the 1970s, was across the street from where this caught on camera moment happened. >> it was pretty spectacular that somebody would stop traffic just to take something out of somebody else's truck. >> reporter: while hayward police work on identifying the

person in this video and who the car belongs to, sean plans to keep an eye out too. >> just part of the game. part of the industry. >> you've got to deal with it. >> yeah, got to be more careful. lock your tools up. on the peninsula, authorities are investigating a report of a car off a cliff in san mateo count on the coastline near montara. crews searched after a driver reported seeing a red sedan going off the clive. while crews were searching, san jose police informed them a man reported missing was last seen in a red toyota camry and may be near montara. in the east bay for a second weekend oakland police are promising to crack down on illegal sideshows this saturday and saturday, dedicating a quote large contingency of officers specifically to sideshows. it's promising to issue

new details on a wildfire that ravaged lake county last year. cal fire says the pawnee fire was sparked by target shooting. the fire broke out on june 24th. it had destroyed 10 homes and burned more than 15,000 acres. the lake county "record bee" reports the case is in the hands of the district attorney's office but it's not clear if someone will face criminal fire. uc berkeley offered free measles vaccinations today as 1,000 students and staff from two southern california universities have been ordered
