throughout the day mostly70land pleasant away from the bay where numbers climb through the 70s and upper 60s, but it's at the coast that you'll see the cool weather and just limited sunshine. so, temperatures still above average in some neighborhoods. we'll take a look at that in detail in just a few minutes. chris? >> thank you. developing news. a suspect is in custody after a shooting at a san diego synagogue that left one person dead and three others wounded. among those hurt a rabbi and young girl. ♪ >> reporter: community members joining together for a candlelight vigil. a show of unity hours after a deadly shooting inside the chabad of poway. >> on a religious day today the end of passover which is a very religious day and totally

targeted. i don't get it. it's very upsetting. >> reporter: family and other worshippers were attending a last day of passover celebration when authorities say the 19-year-old suspect identified as john earnestentered around 11:30 with an ar-type rifle. >> started shooting. >> hear about six or seven gunshots and a pause and i heard a male voice yelling and then i heard about another six or seven shots. >> reporter: a girl and a 34-year-old man were hospitalized with injuries caused by shrapnel. the synagogue's rabbi 57-year-old yisroel goldsteingo was wounded during the attack. he tried to calm the >> he is a very strong person and built this community since the early '80s. >> reporter: the suspect fled, but a short time later called

police and told them the was involved in a shooting at a synagogue. earnest pulled over and surrendered. >> a san diego resident and had no prior arrest record. we are in the process of reviewing to determine its authenticity. >> reporter: authorities are going over an open letter return by earnest and his posts on social media as they investigate the attack. >> it was hate in its purest form. hate can come knocking on anybody's door. but in this community, we answer it with love and coming together. >> it will not break us. it never will. >> reporter: the rabbi underwent surgery for injuries to his hands. the child and the other man injured in the shooting are in stable condition and said to be doing well. in poway, amy powell. here at home, police are on heightened alert sending extra patrols to keep an eye on synagogues.

police are upping patrols around synagogues. according to endowment fund, law enforcement paid special visits to synagogues in the bay area where phones and e-mails aren't used on the sabbath and gavin newsom took to twitter to share his views. he said, quote, an attack against any community is an attack against our entire state, who we are and what we stand for. our country has to be better than this. president trump called governor newsom to express his condolences. in san francisco, amy. the shooting comes six months to the day that 11 people were killed in pittsburgh, pennsylvania. last light residents gathered for a vigil to mark the an v anniversary and a man was arrested in the tree of life shooting and facing hate crime charges and several others. this must stop. we know first hand the fear, anguish and healing process such

suspect is accused of crashing into eight people on purpose. the san francisco field office is conducting the investigation. 34-year-old isaiah peoples is charged with eight counts of attempted murder. the crash on el camino real left a 13-year-old girl in critical condition and injured seven others. police said they found evidence that peoples may have targeted the victims based on their race and believed they were muslim. he is due back in court on may 16th. a bay area triple homicide suspect has been taken into custody near south lake tahoe. stefon jefferson was known for two shootings. authorities believe he is responsible for a third shooting in berkeley. >> reporter: the murder spree began on friday around 10:15 a.m. in oakland when stefon jefferson shot and killed marcus jackson. a victim's family friend said they are related. he also said the suspect

committed the crime right outside of histhus off camera jefferson's mom said she's grieving. >> he can do it for you. >> reporter: several hours later at 1:27 p.m. jefferson drove to san francisco and killed 49-year-old laron davis. >> he was on the job. taking the garbage out or whatever and he came right here and the guy shot him. >> reporter: police connected the oakland and san francisco shootings to jefferson on friday. ucpd berkeley revealed the department is considering jefferson the main suspect in friday's homicide in people's park. that shooting took place at 2:40 p.m. >> said something like we're not cool any more. bam. >> reporter: stephen said he had seen jefferson before. >> i recognized him as he came in the park before. put the gun in his pocket and

we're going to have another pleasant day across the bay area, little cooler than what we have been experiencing in the past week. we'll get a check of the full forecast coming up with lisa argen in just a little bit. first, in washington state investigators are trying to determine what caused a tower crane constructing a new google campus in san diego killing four people. pieces of the crane smashed into six vehicles, two people in two separate cars were killed by the impact. two workers in the crane also died. four others suffered nonlife threatening injuries. one witness heard the commotion and saw people running from the scene after the collapse. >> that could have been me. you know, i was going to go to the grocery store and i normally go up that way and that could have happened to me. >> the google project is one of seattle's largest developments. the building under construction suffered major damage when other pieces of the crane landed on the roof of the complex. hundreds of guns are off the

streets of san francisco after a buy-back event in the bay view. according to the group brothers against guns 25 guns were traded in within the first 30 minutes including an m-16 rifle. one person brought in 14 guns. the group teamed up with police to hold yesterday's event. $100 offered for handguns and 200 bucks for rifles and assault weapons. a lawyer will be reviewing elon musk's tweets as part of an adpreement he made with security regulators. the detail in court filings friday means that musk will no longer face the threat of holding in contempt. the sec claimed that musk violated a previous settlement when he tweeted that tesla would produce 500,000 vehicles this year. musk is required to get advance approval from security lawyer employed by tesla before he tweets about a range of financial topics. a judge still needs to sign off on the agreement. neighbors showed up in full force to help revitalize an east

action report calling the request a distraction. saying the request did not interfere with lives or property. the claims upset malibu's mayor who lost his home in the woolsey fire. >> it would be sad if somebody put their position above the general population. so my feeling would be you shouldn't be doing that. if you did, shame on you. my situation was different. i lost my home. and i was hospitalized during the event. >> the woolsey fire killed four people and destroyed more than 1,600 structures. a manhunt is on after an uber passenger was shot to death by a fellow passenger. this happened in houston after the driver picked up the two men at an intersection. it's not clear if the victim and shooter knew one another. the driver went a mile before pulling over in a parking lot to call 911. >> as he picked up one

individual, the individual sat in the rear passenger side of the suv and a second companion to that individual came around the driver's side around the back and immediately began open fire into the back seat where his companion was and shot him. >> the uber driver was not hurt. the ride share company has not commented on the shooting. hundreds of people are under quarantine in southern california over concerns they were exposed to measles. the focus is on cal state los angeles. the number has spiked dramatically at the cal state campusquarantined. the number has 50 so fiv confirmed cases of measles in los angeles county. last week uc berkeley encouraged its students to get vaccinated. new details now on the college admission scandal. families from china are accused

of paying the most of getting their children into schools. one chinese family is accused of paying rick singer $6.5 million to get their child into a leading school. by far the largest payment known to date among dozens of parents, some from the bay area. court documents show another chinese student's family paid $1.2 million to get her into yale university. 50 people now face charges. getting a home isn't the only struggle in the bay area, so is keeping a home. this is one of the most expensive places to live in the country. at least for now. the south bay is the first major market nationwide to see home values drop year over year according to zillow. defines the south bay as santa clara county and the median home price is currently $1.2 million. >> say the silicon valley market

shore to talk about. an area of low pressure keeping much of central and southern california on the cool side and an area of low pressure to the north that will reinforce this cool air throughout the next several days. here's a look at that tall ship. from our camera here in the city. pretty start to the day with all the gray out there, even so, partly cloudy san francisco and 52 in oakland and 53 in mountain view with 50 half moon bay and emo emoryville and 50 by the delta and sunny already and the clouds will peel back, evaporate the moisture and bring in a sunny, mid-morning for you. 52 in concorde, as well as livermore. the delays we talked about 40 minutes on the peninsula. with the coastal drizzle perhaps this morning and the clouds, it's a cool start and we will have sunshine with cool to mild conditions today. so, we're taking the warmth and the heat out of the forecast for your sunday and the week ahead where temperatures will be near or slightly below average. here's the east bay.

walnut creek the first column average highs where we should be for late april. low 70s for you in livermore and san jose. upper 60s on the peninsula, the east bay, the north bay. but as we look at the highs today, still above average for you in san jose and livermore by about 3 to 6 degrees and san rafael a little bit warmer and feels kind of cool. it did yesterday with the breeze. today we'll call it mostly sunny. along the shoreline here upper 50s to low 60s and 69 in vallejo and warriors tonight, oh, this is opening day on the bay. too excited for that with temperatures in the low 60s another cool one and tonight, yes. that's what we're excited about. this afternoon 12:30 low 60s in oakland right on through the afternoon. the accu weather seven-day forecast upper 50s coast and upper 60s bay and upper 70s inland. keep the sunny afternoons going. in fact, the marine layer will mix out come mid-week probably because that reinforcing shot of

cool air creates that, well, dissipates that inversion. we won't see it at all. by the end of the week, still not budging with the temperatures. download the app and keep track of the mild weather. >> sounds good. lisa, thank you. a construction site in downtown san francisco may yield clues to the city's past and the remanence of the gold rush water front. larry h t story. >> reporter: crews at front street and broadway are busy digging for the city's new gold. that is residential housing. but sources familiar with the construction project are also describing some smaller treasures to abc 7. gold rush era water front which has yielded buried secrets in the past. >> we were involved with the rome which turned up in the excavation for the muni -- >> reporter: he has no direct knowledge about the front street

construction project, but says the area was the site of long wharfs or piers that were built along the historical shoreline. researchers who have also mapped the location of dozens of ships that were grounded in that area. >> some of the ships were sunk as foundation for the peiers an others of the ships were pulled up on to the mud to be used as essentially buildings. >> reporter: over the decades, remnants of those ships and their cargo have been uncovered. the developer bridge housing would only say the site is being surveyed. crews have broken ground in several small sections and a source familiar with the work described finding small artifacts including finding a button from 1851 and evidence pointing to the site possibly being the location of the possible wharf. the area was devastated by fire around the same period. >> i don't recall the month, but

we're certainly going to see the sun throughout the next couple hours and the highs today, still above average a bit in santa rosa and average high 71 and then we drop off tomorrow and tuesday as cooler air moves in from a front to the north and by the end of the week, we want to see numbers and we will hopefully see numbers in the upper 70s in our inland valleys. as for the rest of us today, we're looking at the range from upper 70s coastside and 66 in livermore and fairfield with 71 in napa. the seven-day forecast. we are continuing our cool down today and cooler tomorrow and tuesday and we lose the marine layer and with a few more low clouds and fog and high pressure should build back for modest warming. maybe a few degrees. >> thank you. thanks to you for joining us on abc 7 mornings.
