delays. there are new developments tonight. >> luz pena spoke exclusive to the president of the union for muni operators who has a strong message to workers and a proposed solution. >> reporter: delays impacted more than 100,000 riders. today the president of the operators union is going to ask operators to work with them so this doesn't happen again. a working bus is a good sight to see for many muni riders still not over friday's delays. >> yeah, sure. everybody would like it to be better. friday was a complete forgive the pun, train wreck. who knows what will happen. >> reporter: the president of the transport workers union local 258 revealed to us today he sent a message to all the muni operators urging them to prevent delays like friday's. >> we saw the amount of people

that were stranded and that's not a good feeling. we're trying to promote the usage of public transportation. in an effort, the operators are going to volunteer to work on their sixth and seventh day. >> the delays last week were caused by downed overheadlines. ryders were directed to take shuttles. due to operators turning down overtime, packed shuttles were the complaint many. supervisors are considering reinstruct touring the leadership. >> people getting hands stuck in doors, wheels getting flattened, $63 million that was denied because the light rail vehicles are not working. it's just been a horrible week. >> sole 258 says they're willing to surprise but they also want muni to acknowledge their requests. >> a decent contract for the operators, better safety and security measures for the operators, treeing operators with a little bit of respect,

lawrie kill bert kaye was killed. >> lori laying on the floor unconscious. >> police say 19-year-old john earnest was the gunman. he apparently purchased that gun an ar style rifle weeks before the attack yesterday. earnest fled while being slot by an off-duty border patrol agent attending services and arrests about a mile away. investigators are examining his social media history including an open letter posts saying he wanted to kill jews. he has been charged with murder and attempted murder. >> a woman hit and killed while walking her dogs in san and sell mo last night. tonight neighbors remember her fondly. >> we're acrossing not to identify her as police are in the process of reaching out to her family. here's kate larsson. >> reporter: the crash happened here on butterfield road. the driver arrested on suspicion of dui. neighbors point out how dark and dangerous this road is at night.

>> reporter: jason started using a type of vaporizer called a mod to quit smoking and kept a spare battery in his pocket. that's what exploded last month. >> the daniel was done and all the skin on the back of my leg was missing. so i went to the emergency room as fast as i could. >> reporter: he underwent to skin graft surgeries and while he recovers his wife is on leave from a non-profit where she helps homeless moms and kids. their lives have been changed dramatically. >> i've been home with him for about a month and we're still working it out every day. this is going to be a long process. >> reporter: jason and his wife are considering a lawsuit. their attorney. >> we have almost 100 cases. we have leads coming in almost every other day. >> reporter: some explosions caught on video. the most recent data shows from 2015 to 2017, more than 2,000e cigarette explosions sent people to emergency rooms was severe

injuries including loss of body parts, eye, tongue, teeth hole blown through the roof of mouth and burns to the face, legs and hands. in may 2018, the death of a male in his 30s. >> the way it shoots out with such force, it's almost like a gunshot. in one case it, shot, hit the wall and ricocheted back and hit our client in the arm. >> reporter: a forensic engineer tells the team e-cigarettes in which a permanent batteries are a permanent part of the device. it's the mod unit in which the batteries can be removed that's a problem. >> you charge it, put it back in, take it out. that thin plastic gets warm. now you're exposing the positive terminal to the negative terminal. >> reporter: that can lead to a short circuit and explosion if the battery comes into contact with coins or keys in a person's pocket. >> it's an unfortunate design problem that can be solved. it hasn't been addressed by everyone involved, the mod or battery manufacturers. >>reporter: the fda is in the

just hours after an cory ballantine was drafted by the giants, a shooting put him in the hospital and killed his former teammate, dwayne simmons. in a statement, new york giants called it a tragic situation and said they were in contact with ballantine. dozens of people were at the home and the chaos spilled into the streets. >> there's people running everywhere. and somebody's down in the middle of the road. bleeding pretty good. >> ballantine is expected to make a full recovery. police are interviewing witnesses tonight as they certainly for the gunman. the san mateo county sheriff's office recovered a man's body found floating in the ocean off half moon bay there morning. the remains were recovered near the ritz carlton hotel. investigators say the victim had been december ford some time. coroner officials took custody of the body and will identify the victim. >> a sheriff's sergeant wounded in the hand during a shoot-out
