moni monica pier, even houses of worship. this army vet who fought against terrorism in afghanistan is being accused of planning multiple mass casualty attacks in california. >> the terror plot culminated with plans to bomb innocent people, causing dozens of deaths and serious injuries. >> reporter: according to the affidavit, mark steven domingo allegedly expressed support for violent jihad, searching for pressure cooker bombs to use at a white nationalist rally in long beach, california, this past weekend. officials say his planning only started last month online. he allegedly wrote, there must be retribution for the massacre of worshippers at a new zealand mosque, allegedly writing america needs another vegas event to give the country a taste of the terror they gladly spread all over the world. the department of justice alleging that domingo would swear allegiance to isis if it came to the u.s. >> our biggest fear is this was a rapid what we call radicalization immobilization to violence. >> reporter: the affidavit says the 26-year-old also told an

informant he wanted to target police officers, a military facility and the santa monica pier. he talked of a drive-by shooting with an ak-47-style rifle. the suspect's brother hinting domingo had been troubled and became hopeful when he had recently converted to islam. >> i don't want to assume a thing when someone joins a new religion. if anything, i thought it was a good thing. i thought maybe my brother finally found some sort of guidance in this world. >> reporter: domingo was also looking into targeting jews. that alleged plot coming to light just days after an attack left one dead and three wounded in the san diego synagogue. at an emotional funeral service monday, family members honored 60-year-old lori kaye. her daughter just feet away when her mother was shot. >> there are many forms of hatred that brought this man to do what he did, but his hatred does not shadow the love of my mother and the love of the community she was a part of. >> reporter: the suspect in that synagogue shooting is a

19-year-old nursing student. he's going to be arraigned later today. he faces charges of murder, attempted murder and arson, and if convicted, would spend the rest of his life behind bars. cecilia? >> leaving a community there reeling. okay, matt, thank you. we are now going to turn to that severe weather threat. 20 million americans in the storm zone this morning from texas to illinois on alert for flooding, possible tornadoes and even snow. ginger tracking it all. good morning, ginger. >> hey, good morning to you, cecilia. and good morning, everybody else. check this out, eureka, kansas. these pictures are always a precursor to tell you what is to come. nearly 70-mile-per-hour winds with, that and look at that. the hail, look at it covering the roads in wink, texas. the hail was actually as large as an egg, so egg-size or larger possible today in this region. we start with the flood alerts from, say, iowa city down through st. louis and kansas city. a quick look into oklahoma city and all the flood alerts for up to 5 inches of rain, but real quick if max could hit this, i need to share this enhanced risk area. oklahoma city, norman, we have enough of a low level jet and

court in 1991. biden presided over the confirmation hearing and has been criticized for how anita hill was treated. >> in moving forward and deciding to run, you reached out to anita hill. she has recently said when asked if she felt it was an apology that you had extended, she said, no. she said, i cannot be satisfied by simply saying i'm sorry for what happened to you. i will be satisfied when i know there is real change and real accountability and real purpose. >> i was grateful she took the call. i don't want to get into our private conversation, but the point is that, look, i was chairman of the committee. >> professor, do you swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you god? >> i do. >> i believed her from the very beginning, but i was chairman. she did not get a fair hearing. she did not get treated well. that's my responsibility and i committed that i am determined to continue the fight to see to it that we basically change the culture in this country where a

woman is put in a position where she is disbelieved. as the committee chairman i take responsibility that she did not get treated well. i take responsibility for that. >> i hear what they're saying. i understand it and i'll be much more mindful. that's my responsibility. my responsibility and i'll meet it. >> you put out the video and it was a very powerful video right after these accusations from women who said that you made them feel uncomfortable. >> and i get it. i get it. >> but then shortly thereafter you're addressing a group, mainly men, and you make light of it. >> i just want you to know i had permission to hug lonnie. i had permission. >> and some people were wondering do you really get it? >> i really do. i've learned -- here's the deal. i've always thought that part of leadership, part of politics was listening to people, hearing them, making them feel comfortable, getting them -- letting them know i hear them

and i empathize with them. whenever they have a problem. it's my responsibility to be more sensitive to whether or not someone wants me to reassure them or wants to say hello or wants to show affection and support, and that's my responsibility. >> but, robin, i think what you don't realize is how many people approach joe. men and women looking for comfort, but going forward, i think he's going to have to judge, be a better judge of when people approach him, how he's going to react, that he maybe shouldn't approach them. >> how did you react when those first accusations were made? > you know, i've known joe for 44 years and one of the things i've always admired about him is the way he does connect with people, and in 44 years i -- you know, i hadn't heard negative comments, but now is a different time. women, men are in a different place now and so we have to

honor that. >> have you ever experienced a similar situation when a man made you feel uncomfortable by their actions or inappropriate language of any sort? has that ever happened to you? >> yes, it's happened to me. and i have come home and i've told joe about it. >> she'd never tell me the names, though. >> but, yes, i've felt that, you know, men were in my space. >> and how did you handle it? >> you know, it was -- i just sort of stepped aside. i didn't address it. like you said, i mean, things have changed. there was a time when women were afraid to speak out and i can remember specifically it was in a job interview and -- and, you know -- and so that's where we've moved from now if that same thing happened today i'd turn around and say what do you think you're doing? so i think it's totally different.

>> the president has a motto, make america great again. do you have one? >> make america moral again. make america return to the essence of who we are, the dignity of the country, the dignity and treating our people with dignity and this god awful deliberate division that's being taken in order to separate people to aggrandize his own power. >> he's making the differences between the two. pennsylvania, yesterday, iowa today, hitting all the stops. >> looks like they're going at this as a team. >> very much so. dr. biden will be here next week. she's written a book but very much by his side and the entire family. they said they got together with the grandkids, everyone. they're fully behind him running for a third time and will talk to him more about that in our next half hour. to the white house where president trump, his family and the trump organization is suing two of his longtime banks to prevent them from complying with demands from congress for trump records. it's a dramatic escalation in the showdown between trump and democrats in congress.

let's bring in our chief white house correspondent jon karl and, jon, this is a long shot for the president. >> reporter: it's certainly unusual, george, and democrats say the trump lawyers know full well that even if this lawsuit loses, it could succeed in delaying their investigation. so we have a statement, a joint statement from the chairs of the financial services and intelligence committee calling this a meritless lawsuit, another demonstration of the depths to which president trump will go to obstruct congress' constitutional investigative authority. george, these committees subpoenaed deutsche bank and capital one for a long list of records related to their business with the trump organization as part of an investigation into foreign influence in the trump organization. the trump legal team says that the subpoenas are, quote, unlawful and illegitimate, every citizen should be concerned about the sweeping lawless invasion of privacy and, george, -- >> one of the most wanted

men has resurfaced. it's the first video of al baghda baghdadi. he was vowing the terror group will keep fighting. this is despite being announced defeated by president trump. we have martha raddatz from washington. good morning, martha. >> reporter: good morning. there is a $25 million price tag on al baghdadi's head. he is the number one isis target in the world, but this morning, it appears he is alive even after the relentless pounding the u.s. and others have conducted on isis. in the 18-minute video from the images are taken, the man identified as al baghdadi acknowledges of the loss in syria, and he goes on praising the sri lanka attackers. the last time he was seen in public was five years ago in a mosul mosque.

this new tape clearly an effort to say isis can pose a serious threat anywhere in the world. robin? >> all right, martha. thank you. now to the frightening measles outbreak growing nationwide. the cdc just released new numbers. there are now a record 704 cases across 22 states, the most in 25 years. hundreds are quarantined at two universities in california and this morning adrienne bankert has the latest. >> reporter: this morning the measles outbreak in the u.s. is at a 25-year high. the cdc announcing it has identified more than 700 cases in 22 states since the beginning of this year, an increase of 78 cases in the last week alone. the cdc says 89% of those cases have been found in people who are not vaccinated. the cdc's director exclusively tells abc's dr. jen ashton he fears for the worst. >> you can anticipate that it won't be surprising if, unfortunately, we do see a death. >> reporter: last week in l.a. ucla and cal state los angeles

put more than 1,000 students and staff members in quarantine last week after possibly being exposed on campus. this morning more than 200 remain quarantined, meaning that the university's barred students and staff until the health department verifies they are vaccinated and virus-free. >> there are a few of my colleagues who are still under quarantine. i would imagine they are scared as well because an outbreak like this, it's easy -- it's easy to be worried over. >> reporter: and here at cal state, l.a., some students and staff have been quarantined up to three weeks waiting to get that all clear from doctors. the cdc says in a third of the cases we're seeing nationwide, they are children under the age of 5 years old. they are saying they want everyone to get into the doctor and get vaccinated as soon as possible. george, back to you. >> how many times can you say, you have got to get the vaccine. adrienne, thanks very much. we have breaking news. let's go to tom llamas. >> reporter: george, we're monitoring an escalating

former police officer amber guyger calling 911 after shooting 26-year-old botham jean inside his own home. >> we have help on the way. >> i know, but i'm -- i'm going to lose my job. i thought it was my apartment. >> reporter: 19 times she tells the dispatcher she thought john was in her i sat down with daryl washington, the attorney representing jean's family in the separate civil trial. he is hearing the tape for the first time. >> when i listen to that call, not one time did i hear amber guyger say she was in fear of her life. >> reporter: after days of protest authorities charged guyger with murder in jean's death. an arrest affidavit says jean disobeyed guyger's commands and she opened fire. we reached out to her attorneys for this recording, but they couldn't comment because this is under a gag order. they did say in a statement, quote, when we get to a fair

>> yes, we are. >> he's the youngest director ever nominated for an oscar for the groundbreaking ho hood." singleton died after suffering a stroke being remembered across hollywood, samuel l. jackson, ava duvernay and barbra streisand and so many more paying tribute, and we have a look back at his career, good morning, chris. >> it comes one month after luke perry died of a stroke at age 52. the film world is remembering how the career of john singleton opened doors for so many african-americans in hollywood while his movies opened eyes to realities that had long been ignored. >> reporter: this morning, hollywood is grieving the loss of writer/director jo john singleton. the 51-year-old passing away after suffering a stroke. >> either they don't know, don't show or don't care about what's going on in the hood. >> reporter: the trailblazing director was just 23 in 1991

when his debut film "boyz n the hood" sparked a national conversation. the cast that included cuba gooding jr. and regina king and in a star-making performance ice cube. singleton gave names, faces and deep emotion to the life and death struggles of the inner city. >> someone tries to make a film about black folks and they're not from the culture, how are they going to know what's up? >> reporter: he became the first african-american ever to be nominated for a best director academy award and the youngest person ever. >> any person who has passion about something and wants respect for whatever he or she does, it's nice to be getting depth. >> reporter: he paired janet jackson and tupac shakur for "poetic justice." he directed samuel l. jackson in a reboot of "shaft." and helmed "too fast too furious."

his success opened doors for his african-american casts and for black filmmakers who had been shut out of hollywood for so many years. tributes from across the industry pouring in on social media. samuel l. jackson tweeting in part, he blazed the trail for many young filmmakers, always remaining true to who he was and where he came from. from oscar winner jordan peele, john was a brave artist and true inspiration. his vision changed everything. john singleton died on monday after suffering a stroke at the age of 51. >> i'm not going to do anything i don't have my heart in. i have to do something i can look at ten years later and say, yes, i did that and i'm proud of it. >> just a massive loss. a statement from singleton's family stated he had quietly struggled with hyper tension adding more than 40% of african-american men and women have high blood pressure and urging all to please recognize the symptoms by going to

heart.org. >> chris, thanks very much. let's talk about that now with dr. carolyn brockington from mt. sinai hospital in new york. john singleton, 51. luke perry, 52. is it this common? >> we keep hearing about this over and over again and everybody is asking what's going on but really the truth is that stroke can occur at any age, right? we know the incidence increases as people get older but doesn't mean because you're young you can't have a stroke and emphasizes everybody should know their risk factors, the symptoms and what to do. >> well, let us know. what are the risk factors? what are the symptoms? what should we look for? >> a good question but a lot of risk factors we know. medical conditions that increases someone's increase of stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, smoking, inactivity, all those things are risk factors so it's time to partner with your doctor to figure out, hey, do i have any of these risk factors because really the good news is 80% of strokes we think can be prevented but you have to identify what your risk factor is and modify it appropriately.

if you have blood pressure, maybe have to diet and exercise and take medicine but if you control it you can reduce the chance of stroke and other conditions that happen from high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, et cetera, it's just prevention, prevention is key. easier to deal with something before it happens than after. >> you just mentioned it. this is the bottom line. we can't say it enough. things you should be on the lookout for, if you are trying to reduce this risk. >> the thing about stroke is that it happens suddenly, right? it's not going to happen over weeks and months but seconds and minutes. >> you got to act fast. >> act fast is the key because we want people to realize if they have symptoms right away it's not time to figure this out on the phone and ask somebody but go to the emergency room right away. we know that time is brain. the longer the time the brain isn't getting enough blood flow, the more likely you'll have permanent injuries. if you come right away, people do well. >> remind me what the symptoms are. >> if you think of act fast, face, if your face is drooping.

>> if i could jump in here, the one thing i think that does differentiate you is his experience. i mean, he doesn't need any on the job training. he jumps right in. he's been vice president. so from day one, joe can take everything. >> you also have referred to yourself as an obama/biden democrat. people look at that and say, are you running for a third obama term? how would your presidency be substantially different? >> i'm really proud of serving with barack, with the president. but look. it's a new time, a new day. we're moving on to deal with the things that are in our grasp. i have worked my whole life. finishing the job for equality for women and in terms of what we're going to do about the environment, make bold, new steps forward. >> what would you say to the trump voter, the trump supporter who looks at the economy and sees very strong numbers? here in pennsylvania where the unemployment is at a record low of 3.9%.

>> well, what i'd say is did you get any benefit from the tax cut? have your wages really gone up? do you think like you deserve? do your employers treat you with any more respect and dignity than they did before? what's the story? ask these folks. ask the folks in this state. i know this state pretty well and the fact of the matter is they're not getting their fair share. the american people, the people who built this country are ordinary americans who have done extraordinary things from neighborhoods like we come from and this president does not show a great deal of respect and he continues to divide the country. for example, ask him how hard it is to get their kid to college. six in ten jobs require a high school degree. ask him how easy it is to afford it. why do we give a tax break to wall street but we don't give a tax break for -- significant tax break for day care or for child care? why don't we do that? >> is it hard to get that message across when people look at their bottom line, and it's better than it was two, four

years ago? >> but the bottom line for the vast majority of working class and middle class people is not significantly better. it's not significantly better. and, they know they're not being treated very well. this is about restoring the dignity, the dignity of work and it's not happening right now. >> the mueller report, what was your initial reaction to the findings? >> one, there was russian interference without any question, russian interference, number one. number two, there are elements of the report in the second fade of the report, about seven or eight things that are left undone. the congress is attempting to take that up, and what they should do, and they are doing is investigate that, and if, in fact, they block the investigation, they have no alternative to go to other than impeachment. in the meantime, is make sure he's not back as president of the united states of america. >> donald trump is very confident that should you win the nomination he can beat you

to islam just recently, and converted himself to violent jihad, and he started to plan large scale attacks that could have left hundreds of people dead now. he allegedly told an fbi informant that he wanted to attack police stations, military bare racks and set up bombs here at a white nationalist rally in long beach. that informant apparently got him these bombs, but they were plants, fake fbi bombs and when he took possession of them, the fbi moved in, arrested him. if convicted, he faces 15 years in prison. >> such great work by the fbi. okay, matt. thank you. we're going to turn to that severe weather threat bringing hail, heavy rain and widespread flood alerts. 20 million americans in the storm zone this morning. let's go back over to ginger tracking it all. hey, ginger. >> hey there, cecilia. we wanted to start with snow because these images are always tough to see the day before may unless you're in grand marais,

minnesota. more than a foot of snow, nothing new for them there. 15 1/2 inches and more snow with the storms but most will be in the elevated areas. the part that will be dangerous will be hail, damaging winds and tornadoes possible today. you had eureka, kansas showing you images of the up to 70-mile-per-hour winds that were recorded. quick look at the hail too, hen egg size, so two plus inches. i think we're going to do that again today. flood alerts from oklahoma and texas into illinois because of those couple of lows. they'll slide along. you have enough of what we call a low level jet stream so a lot of moisture and one wind direction at the surface and then a cooler drier wind direction above. that means wind shear and means in that elevated area you see, tulsa, oklahoma city and joplin, tornadoes possible and large hail too. george. >> okay, ginger, thanks very much. we turn to that headline about energy drink dangers. a new study finds that young adults are consuming more than ever and mixing them with alcohol, and dr. jen ashton here to talk more about that. give us the details. >> george, this is the actual study, and it was done over a

13-year period, and looked at three groups of americans, teens, young adults, aged 20 to 39, and middle-aged adults. in general the trend regarding energy drinks up in all those groups but most in the young adult age range and so we have to ask why are they drinking so much? how much are they drinking and the long-term effects of this in our diet are really still unknown. >> and mixing them with alcohol. >> exactly, not a good thing. so let's go over some of the risks because we know these are loaded with caffeine. they're loaded with other stimulants like some amino acids. they are incredibly high in sugar and empty calories and when you add that to what it's doing to our health, elevating heart rate and blood pressure, increasing the risk for weight gain which is tied to type 2 diabetes and insomnia. i want to be crystal clear, as a doctor and nutritionist once in a while, fine. every day, multiple times a day, probably not the best for our health. our body is two-thirds water. it's not two-thirds energy drinks. >> stay away from them. >> how about the mom in you?

statements released leading fans and performers to wonder what's going on. the music festival, set to mark the half century anniversary of the 1960 summer of love festival being funded by a network, released a statement to billboard saying in part they don't believe the production can be executed as an event worthy of the woodstock brand and as a result have decided to cancel. however, woodstock co-founder michele lang has also written a statement saying the show will go on writing in part, although our financial partner is withdrawing -- i'm sorry. i'm just being told michael lang, not michele. thank you, control room. michael lang from the festival says it will go on. the festival will happen, writing in part, that they will bring in new partners and make it happen. woodstock 50 is supposed to take place august 16th to 18th with a myriad, santana, jay-z, miley cyrus, imagine dragon, halsey.

today at 54 years young returning to the magazine that helped launch her kraer, career, proving there is beauty at every age. we'll chat live right here in a moment but first here's a look at her story. >> reporter: often called the face of the '80s, paulina porizkova has been gracing magazine covers for four decades. the czech born beauty has done it all appearing in music videos. ♪ when you break >> reporter: starring in films. >> it was the dog from the neighbor's. it jumped up at me. >> reporter: but the supermodel with those killer cheekbones might be best known for heating up the pages of "sports illustrated's" swimsuit issue including her first "s.i." cover 35 years ago. paulina made her debut in the magazine in 1983 and now at 54, she is set to make her tenth appearance in the annual issue. >> the minute you point a camera at me, i was like, you look gorgeous, you look beautiful. i was like, boom. >> reporter: in the upcoming

edition, the stunner writing frankly about modeling with women decades younger and embracing the opportunity. >> she's outspoken and honest and she really is an advocate for ageism which i think is a really important topic to address because beauty doesn't end at 30. beauty doesn't end at 40. >> reporter: so great to have paulina porizkova with us live. thank you for being here. >> yeah, i hate to do this to you guys but that picture was taken five years ago. >> you know, it's funny. if i don't have a comparison, if i just look at a picture of myself now like from the "sports illustrated" shoot when m.j. sent me the pictures and she was like we're not going to do any retouching, just on the minor thing like moles and stuff and i was like, gulp. it's like, well, i look good for 54. >> yeah. [ applause ] >> thank you, thank you. thank you. but you ladies know that looking good at 54 is not the same as just looking good, right? it's like the compliment where you get, oh, you still look great. >> i know. i don't like that. can we make a promise not to do that? >> can you just say you look great. >> you still look so good is not a compliment. you look good. you look great. >> thank you. i love you. >> how has the definition of beauty changed since you started modelling? >> you know what, i actually think -- and i'm going to give -- i don't need to but i'm going to give a lot of credit to m.j. day from "sports

illustrated." because -- yeah, actually, seriously. >> that's a surprising answer because some people might not -- >> i'm not actually -- like i'm not big on like, you know, making things up. i'm usually pretty honest. unfiltered they call me. i think it is a compliment. but m.j., when she got into her position, she really started expanding the notion in "sports illustrated," which is like that's where people go to see beautiful young women, right? and she really started expanding the idea that it's not just, you know, models size 2 to 4 that are pretty but, hey, you know what, they could be size 10, they could be size 20 and all of a sudden at first when she started doing it i remember people going, ooh, god, and now -- big girls in "sports illustrated." >> very accepted and loved actually. >> the cover of the very beautiful -- her name is -- >> i know who you're talking about. >> laura.

photographers, and it goes on and on and learn about being a champion in life, just not on the ice. >> a great role model in you, my friend. >> very kind of you to say. [ applause ] go back to windsor for a closer look at prince harry and duchess meghan's life in that village as they wait for the royal baby. amy and will there. we'll call it a working vacation. >> this is what we call a workcation. it's lovely here in windsor, a wonderful place to raise a family, i think we can both confirm. there's no word if there's going to be any official royal baby memorabilia released like we saw for the cambridge children, in fact, the royal collection told us that they have no official plans as of yet but we'll have to wait and see because those collects came after those babies were born. i've done some shopping in and around town but i understand you've done the same. yours is more official. mine was more personal. >> i went out and i -- it's a

great town here. you can see why we're here and why harry and meghan want to make their home here and figured while i was out i would stop in and get the baby some gifts. so little onesie here. i think unisex and then you can take that and then got a little hat to match and i figured we could give that to harry and meghan when they want. >> sounds gooed. >> that's not all, though. it wasn't just baby shopping that i did when i went and took a look around windsor. ♪ i've arrived at the central station in windsor just in time for the big arrival, the child of those two, harry and meghan, baby sussex on its way but before we get to that we got to get to see the town that harry and meghan are calling home. it was here almost a year ago hundreds of thousands of adoring fans lined the streets to get a glimpse of harry and meghan as they said their royal vows.

this quaint but busy tourist town located about 25 miles from london in the english countryside now home to harry and meghan who moved into the newly renovated frogmore cottage, a stone's throw away from the queen's castle where she lives on the weekends and where harry grew up visiting his granny. there are plenty of opportunities to get in on the royal baby excitement like right at this souvenir shop where there's memorabilia for the baby right in the middle of the action. downtown windsor right here across from where else windsor castle. in windsor harry and meghan are near their friends george and amal clooney. it's also where harry plays polo and where he went to high school just across the rivers thames same as his brother will. will and kate famously shopped here. that caused quite a commotion, and maybe meghan and harry will do the same. whatever they do, if they do it here, everyone in windsor will be very excited.

no sightings of the sussexs at this location just yet, but the town is getting excited with the newest royal on the way. here at the mcdonald windsor hotel guests can play a guessing game about baby sussex and have to pick the gender, date of birth and time of birth and whoever guesses the closest to what actually happens gets a free night at the hotel. so i think that it's going to be a boy born today fingers crossed and why wouldn't you name it william, amy? >> all right, fair enough. i think it's going to be a girl named diana and i think she's coming tomorrow or friday. >> to stay as long as you want. >> just make it the whole week. it's so obvious. >> i love it. thank you guys. talk to you again real soon. today, of course -- >> no shame. i love it. >> we're jealous. today is a special holiday as you might have heard. anybody know what it is? wait, just listen.

joins us now. >> thank you, george. >> you covered 9/11 for "the boston globe" and in so many ways it's kind of the defining event of our time yet more distant now. >> exactly. that's the reason for the book. we have an entire generation with no independent memory of these events. you were there. you were in the subway. i was there at "the boston globe" writing that day. the planes took off a mile from me but we have all these people for whom this story is falling into history and at the same time because of the length of time there are a lot of stories that people have never been -- >> wanted to get them down. >> exactly. so that's the idea here. >> and it is i guess the second draft of history. >> yes. >> but what you're really trying to do is to give a panorama of what was happening that day and in the moments before and right after. >> that's exactly right. by telling the story through individuals who went through it and to capture them on september 10th with their normal hopes and dreams of -- the kids' homework done? am i going to get into school or

whatever, and then to see this before and after moment because, frankly, for our entire culture, there is that before and after demarcation. >> there's so many thousands of stories here. let's just talk about one. ron clifford. >> sure. ron clifford is a guy, he's not even supposed to be at the towers that day. his business meeting gets changed and finds himself in the marriott between the two twin towers. the first plane goes in and ron sees a terribly burned woman walking toward him. other people are ignoring her. and ron goes to her and he gets her down on the marble floor of the marriott hotel and he is comforting her and actually saying the lord's prayer with her when the second plane goes in right above them and he literally feels the vibrations through the building through the floor of the marriott not knowing that his sister ruth and his niece julianna are on that plane. he continues with jenny, and gets her to an ambulance, and he gets himself to sort of a little

hidy hole he calls it, to survive. those are the kinds of stories that we have to tell because that's -- or ee the story gets lost. >> so many of us in those immediate days and weeks afterwards thought it's never going to be the same here again. that feels a little bit far away right now. what is the lingering thing you take away? >> i think we're stronger than we realize. i think in many ways this is a hard story to tell but again and again i was impressed by the strength of people. there is a reason we call it fall and rise. there is an after. we are stronger in the broken places and i think as a culture and as a community, as a country, i think a lot of the lessons as hard as they were to learn i think we benefited. >> i wish we could bring back the unity america felt in the wake of that attack. >> i do as well and i think that -- i think it's not impossible but i think when we talk about 9/11, we need to be sure to have the reverence and the respect for the individuals, the families, the survivors and the victims and i think that's
