"abc7 news" starts right now. live where you live, this is "abc7 news." tonight, stunning new details in a just-released internal report on the oscar grant shooting. it focuses on two officers. >> the one who shot grant and a second officer, who was described as out of control in a chaotic situation. where are we just now seeing this? >> reporter: good evening. this report was released because

ate's new ill 1421, that is the th allows for us, members of the public, to view internal documents regarding certain forms of police misconduct. oscar grant's uncle tells me if this existed in 2009, his nephew could still be alive. we're getting a more complete look the night that oscar grant was shot and killed by officer msserly and the report from b.a.r.t. >> the things that happened that night at the b.a.r.t. station should be studied by not just b.a.r.t. itself, but many other agencies across the country. >> reporter: grant's uncle pored over the report, which debunks the officer's report. investigators say officer mehserle attempted to draw his gun twice and on the final

attempt can be seen looking down to watch the gun come out. grant's family says this report solidifies what they will you view, especially this part, that says officer mehserle reported six use of force incidents in 2008, more than any other officer on the platform and more than other b.a.r.t. police officers that year. the report says another officer contributed substantially to the atmosphere on the platform. a witness referred to him as the crazy cop who screamed "get the expletive off my train. don't think i don't see you and repeated a racial slur. investigators believe his actions played a critical role leading to grant's death. b.a.r.t. released a statement that reads in part, they worked to ensure that officers receive the proper training, support and oversight necessary to respond appropriately and effectively to challenging situations. investigators say deadly force was not justified under the

circumstances. officer mehserle was convicted in oscar grant's case. the other officer was fired. we do have the full report available for you to read on our websi website, abc7news.com. jobina fortson, "abc7 news." in the east bay, a defense attorney laid out his case of day two of the ghostship fire. they claimed someone used molotov cocktails that set the fire that killed 36 people. defense attorneys chaim no one from the fire or police department ever issued a warning about any kind of fire hazard. new details out of charlotte, north carolina, where the skyline is awash in green, a color of the university of north carolina at charlotte. tonight, it's a sign of support for six people shot on campus. two of the students died. and we're learning more about the heroic last moments for one of them. ♪

>> grief, for this senseless loss of young life. >> people packed the stadium to remember the victims of tuesday's shooting, include 2g 1-year-old riley howell now considered a hero. howell had nowhere to run or hide, so he fought back. >> for his work, the assailant may not have been disarmed, but unfortunately he gave his life in the process. >> howell was shot trying to take down the shooter, who police identify as a former student, tristan terrell. >> bang, bang, bang. >> terrell's family says he dreamed of becoming a firefighter or serving in the military. >> i just -- i'm going to miss that kid. he was a good boy, a good man.

a good person. >> incredibly brave. tristan terrell is scheduled for his first court appearance tomorrow. that's also when classes will resume. a cruise ship docked in the eastern caribbean island of st. lucia is quarantined after one confirmed case of measles. there's about 300 passengers and crew, now forced to stay on the ship. medical officials say it's likely that others have now been exposed to the measles. the chief medical officer has not named the boat or said where it came from. avengers fans may have been exposed to measles in southern california. orange county health officials say a woman went to the movie on thursday. doctors say the woman had traveled to vietnam, an area of widespread measles activity, but was fully vaccinated, make thing a rare case. a couple pleaded guilty

today in the college bribery scandal in the boston court. they are the first parents in the scandal to formaly enter guilty pleas. in exchange for cooperating, prosecutors said they would not face further criminal charges and are recommending sentencing at the low end of the guidelines. in new developments, a chinese student has been expelled from stanford after her parents paid $6.5 million to get her into the school. it says that she no longer has a profile in the online student directory. school officials can't confirm an expulsion. san francisco b.a.r.t. stations were packed with commuters trying to get home to the east bay. a series of problems started around 5:30. a b.a.r.t. spokesperson says a train at the powell street station had to be taken out of service because it had a problem with one of the doors. a train behind that one was put
