home to my left suffered catastrophic damage. you can see where the piers are actually pulling away from the hillside. the foundation is crumbling. it's an image that's only gotten worse over the past three years. >> it baffles me there is no possible explanation why it's taken three years. >> it's like time stood still for the moraga homeowner, at least that's the way it looked at his home in moraga, one seriously damaged by a landslide more than three years ago. all the property is owned by east bay mud. >> the creek down here suffered a slide in january of 2016. >> the attorney for the homeowners, bill weisberg says a key piece of evidence in the case will be an outside engineer's report, and internal east bay mud emails that indicate the utility was aware the hillside was susceptible to a catastrophic failure two months prior to the massive

slide in 2016. abc7 news contained a copy of the consultant's report from january 2016. in it an engineer writes the toe of the landslide is being actively undercut by moraga creek and additional and potentially more significant movements could occur if the landslide is not stabilized. internal emails from east bay mud also indicate concern within the utility. one engineer writing, quote, we suggest that the landslide be repaired. there are residences upslope of this landslide area. >> certainly after january 2016, they certainly knew that this type of slide was imminent if it wasn't addressed, and they never addressed it then and they have no plans to address it now. >> did anybody warn you that your home was at risk, that this hillside might fail? >> we have absolutely no information to my message to whatsoever. >> reporter: east bay mud provided only a written statement, quote, the moraga landslide is in litigation with

an upcoming trial date. we trust in the legal process and hope for a fair regulation. resolution. east bay mud has maintained from day one that this happened because of circumstances well beyond their control. nothing has been done here in three years because of all this litigation. it's a case that is finally going to court. the trial is set to begin on you know 10th, and it will be up to a jury to decide who's ultimately responsible. in moraga, laura anthony, abc7 news. >> what long process there. laura, thank you. now to the north bay, which has seen a lot of progress in the year and a half since the north bay wildfires. check out a side by side comparison of santa rosa's coffey park. sky 7 flew over the neighborhood in 2017 on the left. again, a few weeks ago, the new video is on the right. and you can see a lot of houses, more, anyway, clear signs of recovery here, but not everywhere. wayne freedman revisited santa rosa today and found out some

fire survivors are facing a deadline that's just days away. >> to be blunt, this is a limbo zone, a place with all the comforts of home they can muster, the sonoma county fairgrounds where if a trailer has a redwood staircase, it belonged to fema, and the people inside, your last remaining victims of the sonoma county firestorm. whose fault is it that you're still here? stacey gonzalez and her daughter angela perez. >> she is getting older, and i can't have her on the streets. >> but that is a possibility now, because after extending deadlines, fema has set may 10th as the end of assistance. the former renters who remain in trailer parks like these may need it the most. stacey says she can't work because of child care while living on $500 a month of tribal assistance. >> i'm trying to help her look for a place that she can afford. >> amy jacobs --

million fund. this fund will provide relief for people who lost property in fires likely started by pg&e equipment. the utility filed for bankruptcy in january, but money from this fund could be available to victims soon after the court approves it. not every natural disaster is sudden. some, of course, slowly. local experts say a rise in sea level will put many bay area neighborhoods under water, and could cause $100 billion worth of damage over decades, but there is a solution. abc7 news anchor eric thomas explains as part of our focus on efforts to build a better, safer, and more sustainable bay area. >> from the time we have to act has grown shorter and shorter. >> this map shows where flooding would hit hardest as the bay starts to rise. first, 0.8 inches then 1.6 feet higher, then five feet higher, affecting every county that touches the bay. >> we see examples of that with highway 37 was closed for six

weeks. this is only a harbinger of what's to come. >> julie beagle of the san francisco estuary institute in richmond helped co-author the report with the san francisco urban planning institute. it showed studies that shows thousands of homes would be flooded, affecting 400,000 people and causing $1 billion in property damage. the study also says the solution will require cooperation and collaboration between all local city and county governments. >> as it currently stands, if each city, each county, each landowner goes it alone, tries to solve the problem individually, we're going to wind up with a piecemeal approach. >> they also have to convince homeowners like tom and sheryl heimri heimrich, whose home rests on piers over the worried in richmond, that the problem is urgent. >> there has been no evidence so far. interstate 80 is going to be under water. 101 is going to be under water. everything on the coast is going to be under water. it hasn't happend yet. >> the city of richmond didn't

provide us with an on-camera interview, but referred us to the master plan 2030 which, quote, calls for the city to develop a shoreline protection system that is initially built to accommodate a midterm rise in sea level of 16 inches. the estuary institute says a plan must include natural solutions. >> we can use the natural systems like marshes, wetlands, beaches and hybrid approaches like horizontal levees which are long sloping levees. >> and she says a plan must be in place by 2030 or it may be too late. in richmond, eric thomas, abc7 news. new at 6:00, new warnings from the uc berkeley police department following two armed robberies overnight. one happened shortly after midnight in front of the delta chi fraternity. a man stole cell phones and took off in a red dodge. the other happened 1:30 in the morning blocks away on dwight way near people's park. two suspects, one armed with a

begun stole student's wallet and then got away in a black sedan. a terrifying stooint incident on highway 37 in solano county yesterday. look at this. the chp sent out this picture of an suv that was impaled by a guardrail. the suv had veered on to the shoulder. a passenger had major injuries. several law enforcement agencies responded to a home in san carlos because of suspected radioactive material inside. sky 7 was over the home on cedar drive near burton park. within the last 30 minutes, officials say the material was contained and does not present a threat to the public. the san mateo county sheriff's office says a team from the state has come to collect that material. no radiation has been detected outside the structure. happening now, the san francisco police department is hosting a ceremony to remember and honor officers killed in the line of duty. tonight's honored guests will include families of fallen sfpd officers. 108 san francisco police officers have died in the line

of duty dating back to 1877. abc7 news was inside san francisco city hall when leaders -- when elected leaders joined clergy members to lead ceremonies marking holocaust remembrance day. an israeli diplomat along with a woman who survived the holocaust after her family was exiled from germany 80 years ago. >> the ss officers with the black uniform, with the black boots and they're dragged my father out his -- practically out of the house. >> our jewish tradition calls to remember and face death with prayers of praise. >> the portraits of dozens of bay area holocaust survivors are now on display in civic center plaza called lest we forget. a verdict is expected soon.

24-year-old jesse vierra is accused of attacking a security guard. that assault caused the removal of part of his brain. >> 57-year-old security guard dan jansen can be seen on the surveillance camera last november setting up barricades around the old bank of america building at 555 california street to keep skateboarders away. signs around the building clearly state it's not allowed. but you can see skaters trying to move them, and then things escalate. >> we've just always been really close. and i can't imagine this horrific thing happening to him because he is such a nice guy. >> investigators say jansen was sworn by the skaters and assaulted by jesse vierra. abc7 news was the only crew on the scene as first responders rushed jansen to the hospital. brain swelling forced doctors the remove part of his skull. vierra is a sponsored star skater with features in publations like thrasher magazine. throughout the trial, the defense has claimed that jansen

hit vierra first, going for the smallest guy in the group. the state describes the encounter as a brutal attack. jansen's family tells abc7 news he is in an assisted living facility and the once avid fisherman can't walk and is just now beginning to recognize his family. vierra is facing three charges, including assault with a deadly weapon. the jury has gone home for the day and will pick up back here on monday. reporting in san francisco, jobina fortson abc7 news. facebook is banning several well-known people, including nation of islam leader louis farrakhan and alex jones. facebook say they violated its policies on hate speech and promoting violence. there is no immediate reaction from those banned, but in the past they have accused facebac of colluding to oppress conservative opinion. coming up next on abc7 news here at 6:00, the difference between value and cost. >> yes.

jose, this old supermarket has been vacant for more than a decade. but instead of a new one copping in -- >> the city is pretty much cramming all these projects in our neighborhood when homelessness is a bay area problem. >> neighbors were surprised to learn of the possibility of something else being built. >> i'm really shocked by it. so i hope we will have a chance to have a voice in this. >> people assisting the homeless, or path for short is in talks to build the new housing project for the homeless. official says it could be four stories tall and include up to 100 units with supportive services on-site. >> we do create housing opportunities for people in need. some of those individuals might struggle with mental health challenges and substances. the reality is our homeless neighbors are living with these challenges every day on our streets. they are our neighbors today and they will be our neighbors tomorrow. >> across the street, francisras song has been the popular of the hunan taste restaurant since

these are forecast features that will be mild to warm again tomorrow. perhaps a degree or two warmer in some location nears the bay and inland. but a cooling trend moves in over the weekend. sharply cool bir sunday, and there a chance of light showers sunday night into early monday morning. but a very slight chance at the moment. overnight, look for mainly clear skies, a few thin high clouds will remain with us. perhaps a patch or two of coastal fog. overnight lows will range from upper 40s from the bay shoreline to upper 40s inland in most locations, except the inland north bay where it will be cooler. lows in the low 40s. tomorrow's highs about 61 at half moon bay with breezy conditions once again, especially along the coast. right around the bay shoreline, 72, oakland. 75 fremont. inland highs about 80 degrees tomorrow at antioch, livermore and cloverdale. and on we go to a look at our pollen count. it's not looking good over the next few days. tomorrow it will be moderately high. even higher across the bay area on saturday and sunday. and then monday we'll see pollen count coming down just a bit.

but still, it will be in the moderate range. it's not going to be low. temperatures, however, are going to get lower going into the weekend. we're using concord as the indicator of the high temperature trend over the next seven days. so tomorrow a warm day inland with concord's high reaching about 82 degrees, dropping off to only mid 70s on saturday and upper 60s on sunday. the temperature trend all of us will experience that downward trend over the weekend. but temperatures will gradually rebound going into early next week. and here is a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast. after tomorrow's mild to warm day, it will be sharply cooler and breezy on saturday. cooler still on sunday with that late day or overnight chance, slight chance of light rain. then we'll get partial clearing on monday afternoon. sunnier still on tuesday, and then sunnier and milder to even warm by midweek next week. by wednesday, thursday of next week, it will feel a lot like it feels today. but that weekend temperature trend will be downward. >> all right. thank you, spencer.

now abc7 sports with larry beil. >> good evening. thank you about how fragile the chase for a championship really is. if steph curry had broken a bone in his finger in game two, even if it's on his left hand, we'd be talking about a whole different series with the houston rockets right now. instead, it was only dislocated. so steph was able to finish game two and was a full participant in practice today for the warriors. steph did his full shooting drill today after practice. you notice his finger is heavily taped, but he didn't have any issues. so that's a great sign going forward. the warriors will have had three full days off, really three and a half between games, and coach steve kerr didn't see anything that might hold steph back on saturday. >> nothing. he practiced fully today. and he's got it taped up, but it's probably good that we've got a few days off. so hopefully the pain will continue to go down as we get closer to game time. >> it's not that fun, but i know steph.

he'll get it back. i mean, dislocated finger, it sucks, but luckily you can pop it right back in place and it's not the end of the world. >> it just hurts. speaking of pain, after getting whacked in the eye and missing a significant portion of game two, james harden went to see an eye doctor. he is improving as well heading into game three. no cornea damage, and the beard says bright lights bother him, he will be ready to go on saturday night. >> pain gone away? >> no, still tough, especially bright lights. but i can see a little bit better. so that's all that matters. >> as far as the next game, you're good to go? >> i mean, if i play barely seeing last game, what makes you think i'm going to sit out game three? >> abc7 news is the one and only place you can catch game three between the warriors and the rockets. this is a virtual must-win. if they go down 3-0, the series
