i'm in santa cruz where a massive unsanctioned homeless encampment closed today. >> i'm lose pena in san francisco. is a cure for aids near? experts say yes. >> you see that over my shoulder? that's a mural of nipsey hussle. why that's here. >> and a passenger jet skids off a runway into a florida river. abc7 news starts right now with breaking news. >> now from abc7, live breaking news. >> and take a look at that plane upright in shallow water in jackmanville, florida. everyone on board is okay. >> we had a really hard landing. and then the plane bounced. and screeched and bounced some more and it lists to the right

and then lists to the left and it sort of swerved and then it came to a complete like a crash stop. >> just scary. the flight and headed to naval air station jackmanville where the boeing 737 went off the runway and into the st. john's river. >> this flight was contracted by the department of defense. it's a regularly scheduled flight for military and civilian personnel. nas jackmanville says 136 peaks and seven crew members were on board. 21 did yous some with injuries were taken to hospitals. >> as i was en route i heard we had no critical injuries. to say that i was wiping sweat off my brow would be of course, an understatement. >> jackmanville's pair says president trump called to offer help as the situation was first developing. e are on their way to the site to investigate. there's indication wa led to the

skid at this point but there had been thunderstorms in the area. crews have been working to contain jet fuel leaking into the river. >> more disturbing graffiti found on campus at california high school in san ramon today with the words may 9th and the use of a raisel slur. no threat was actually made. it was found on the wall of a shack near the football field. yesterday police watched over the campus whether he a threatening mess and was discovered in a bathroom. that one also mentioned may 9th. >>able a better bay area doesn't come without growing pains. one of the difficult issues we're focusing on is hopelessness. in the city of santa cruz a massive homeless encampment is no more. a court ordered eviction forced hundreds from the very visible camp. manny amanda castillo joins us live with more. >> reporter: before tonight, roughly 200 people lived behind you see in the distance.

as we have witnessed, today's eviction was not easy. dozens of tents remain along the street in santa cruz. most of the people who lived here are gone. they spent all of friday moving belongi belongings. billie lowrie has established a home here. >> as you see, it was unhealthye dangerous, i could see that. >> reporter: techses ran higher when a small explosive device went off inside the camp early friday. the police and pire chiefs believe it wasnt detonated. >> we're in the process of investigating the type of device as well as the intent and people associated with it. >> reporter: advocating for >> wn it ttheus equi, wealt bution, what is the long-term plan. >> reporter: short-term more

proper treatment, there's effectively zero chance of spreading virus. news reporter luz pena joins us with more. >> reporter: this was an extensive study that took place in europe for eight years. during this time, nearly 1,000 male couples with one partner with hiv received the treatment. it was proven that the treatment works and eliminated transmission. it's the site of a potential aids cure. >> if your virus is completely controlled by hiv medications, then someone who is hiv positive like me, cannot pass the virus on to an hiv negative partner. so this is huge. >> reporter: jeff was the first public hiv positive public official in san francisco. he has lived with the virus for 22 years. the study conducted by the university college london looked at 1,000 male coups in europe where one partner had hiv. after the end of the eight-year study they concluded the virus was not transmitted. the hiv positive parents were

using the anti-retroviral therapy to suppress the aids virus. >> it is suppressed to such a low level that the person is not infectious anymore. now, what is so important is, of course, getting everybody tested. those who are positive getting them under treatment. >> reporter: dr. silver mann led the san francisco department of public health in the 80s. during the aids epidemic in san francisco, he says there is a major step. >> are we getting closer to a cure? >> well, i h i we are. in fact, the american foundation for aids research much which i'm a part of is spending $100 million over the past four years and for another year to try and come up with a cure. >> so how close is close? dr. silverman predicts the cure could be found by the next year. luz pena, abc7 news. >> thank you. the oakland unified school district says is the problem of lead in tap water is almost

president trump and russian president vladimir putin had a lengthy phone call today. it comes not long after the special counsel's seping electig efforts by the russians trump was asked if he confronted putin about those issues in the mueller report. >> so we had a good conversation about many different things. okay? >> did you tell him not to meddle in the next election. >> we didn't discuss that. >> democratic congresswoman jackie speier visited is abc7 news today and said the phone call raises new suspicions as the country gets deeper into the 2020 election cycle. >> did they spend the hour on the phone talking about how vladimir putin can be helpful to the president in his next run for the presidency?

>> senate republicans have sent a letter to robert mueller asking if he would like to talk about his conversation with attorney general bill barr regarding the summary of the mueller report. now to the learning moment captured by a flu dad in the delivery room. his twins had just been born whether he a doctor dropped one of the premature infants on to the table. the video is difficult to watch. abc tells us why the parents want you to see it. >> this hard to watch video a newborn baby slipping out of a doctor's hands and dropping head first. baby morgan rogers quickly caught by others in the room. her father derek capture the moment after his twin daughters were born. >> it made me so mad. i had to stop recording. >> reporter: he says the doctor never apologized saying when he confronted the physician. >> he had like a nonchalant look on his face. i showed him the video. he had nothing to say after that. >> reporter: an ultrasound revealed she had a small brain

hemorrhage. her mother concerned over her baby's behavior. >> she does there tensing >> reporr:ospital releases a statement saying the safety of our patients and their families is always our top concern. now the parents are waiting till august for a neurologist to examine morgan. according to medical experts the kind of hemorrhage she has is common in premature babies and likely won't lead toe long-term effects. abc news, los angeles. >> road crews plowing through eight feet of snow on the tie oh ga road in yosemite international park. snowpack was an impressive 149%. compared to last year, meaning crews will put in extra work to clear out the snow. operators face challenges, narrow road, potential avalanches and sheer cliffs. no estimate date for opening. a big job ahead of them because we had a pretty dramatic rainy season this year and a lot of snow up there. >> more rain coming our way. >> that's right. sandhya patel has the weekend

winter in this spring, at least not in may. we thought we would change it up. let me show you this from our east bay hills camera, 8:02 the sun was setting. noticing the fog was starting to redevelop, roll back in. as the night went on, isn't that beautiful? the marine layer continued to deepen. tonight it has deepened to about 1600 feet. so it is going to continue to progress towards the bay. as we head into the overnight hours. you'll notice that there's a push already into the north bay. along the coast, it is socked in. so tracking the system off the coastline that is just spinning. it has been spinning there for a pugh days but it is going to approach the coastline. as it does on sunday, we're going to start to bring in the possibility of some rain. so let's check out our rain chances. it's not just sunday that we're looking at the potential for rain. 35% chance sunday. monday a 30% chance and look towards thursday and friday.

a group of high school students in maryland will never forget their prom night. thanks to a generous stranger who picked up their dinner tab. they were sitting in their drews and tuxes about to finish their meal when their waiter told them a strange her picked up the bill. >> you could sense the generosity and the genuineness of like what she was really like doing. like how happy she was to like kind of be doing this selfless act. >> that's so sweet. the teens said the bill was over $250. one problem, they didn't get the woman's name. they posted the photo around social media hoping to reconnect and thank her. >> they will reconnect. what a nice thing to do.
