represents. the fact it's american and british and biracial, what does that mean for the royal family and for this country? >> reporter: yeah i mean, i think people who followed prince harry's story, there was going to be huge interest in his first born child, but the fact he has married and had a child with someone who brings so much, and brings in many ways a different audience to the royal family, it's significant. >> we don't know yet whether or not duchess meghan had the baby at home or frogmore cottage. they're home now, and how are they released this photo? >> reporter: they are keeping where the baby was born private, but we are going to see them pose for a photograph hopefully in a couple of days' time with their newborn son. >> when prince harry said, the world will see him in two days or so, i was thinking, will see see him? just a photograph. >> reporter: just a photograph.

this morning, horrifying video of an aeroflot superjet carrying nearly 80 people on board careening down the runway during an emergency landing trailing a massive plume of raging flames and thick, black smoke. as we come on the air this morning, 41 dead, 1 american reportedly among them. surveillance video appears to show the jet bouncing off the ground as it tries to land. moments later, flames ignite and that trail of fire lighting up the runway. on board, passengers watch in horror as one of the wings is torn apart. the plane dragging the fire across the tarmac as it finally comes to a halt. the survivors barely managing to escape on an exit slide just feet from the flames frantically moving to safety as the fire sends a thick cloud of black smoke into the air. the plane was traveling from moscow to the northern city of murmansk but was forced to turn back due to, quote/unquote,

technical reasons. some reports say it was a lightning strike. the aircraft then attempted an emergency landing at sheremetyevo airport at which point it caught fire. investigators now say they are focused on three possible contributing factors, the pilots, the ground crew and air traffic controllers. the superjet 100 is a commonly used passenger jet here in russia, but it's shunned by american and european airlines due to parts issues. in 2012 the same model crashed during a promotional flight in indonesia killing everyone on board. back here in moscow we're receiving news that makes this even more horrifying, that is there were three children on that plane, and at least one child has died. also this morning we're hearing from one of the flight attendants who spoke to russian tv. she seems to indicate that the incident that caused the plane to make that ill-fated emergency landing was, in fact, a

i think god had his hand on that plane and that's why i'm sitting here today. >> reporter: and there's no real time line on when the plane might be removed. they're still looking for options. they might keep it here at the naval air station or take it elsewhere. george? >> okay, victor, thanks very much. let's bring in our aviation expert, steve ganyard. steve, what happened in jacksonville, it could have been much worse. >> it could have been much worse. if you look at the runway lights that extend into the water and how the airplane just veered off at the last second. if it hit those runway lights, concrete, steel could have opened up the plane and could have been a real tragedy. >> which is what happened in russia. we saw the video of the plane bouncing there on the tarmac. what does that reveal to you? >> other than a botched landing, not much. they had to come back for an emergency and sounds like they lost communication but they hit almost twice and finally hit so hard it broke the airplane apart and caused the terrible fire that we saw in the video. >> what about this idea the troubles might have first been caused by lightning? >> it's hard to say why that would have botched the landing. for some reason they came in and hit hard the first time and the airplane bounced again and then caught on fire on the second --

but if you look at the response once the fire started i'm really concerned the people may have lost their lives due to the slow response to the crash by the rescue people by the airport. it should not have been that long. >> it did take a lot of time. we heard from dan this superjet has been shunned by european and u.s. companies. >> it's a russian design. it's only flown in russia. it's got a very poor reliability record. it's not commercially successful. it's an airplane to avoid. >> steve ganyard, thanks very much. >> always appreciate steve's insight, george. now to breaking news overnight. tensions rising in the middle east. that's on two fronts. the deadliest fighting since 2014 breaking out between israel and gaza's group, at least 27 people dead. hamas is now reporting a cease-fire has been reached. this as tensions rise between the u.s. and iran, the white house announcing an aircraft carrier and bomber task force are being deployed to the region.
