springs. his former boss says he was an expert at fly fishing. he was one of the 41 people that died as it bounced on the runway during landing. 35 people survived. the pilot says the jet was struck by lightning and lost all communications. the associated press reports the captain did not dump fuel to lighten his landing weight. but that aeronot pilot says he followed all procedures one more note about that american, his boss says he was beloved at work. never had a complaint against him. he was like a son to him, hi,,ing that community hard. >> so sorry to hear that. >> thanks, jessica. in the east bay a man is shoenl taking a field sobriety test after a deadly crash. chp says the man crossed into oncoming traffic on highway 4

and hit a car head on. the driver of that car a 51-year-old man from rippon died at the scene. today, cal-state will hold a vigil for a former student that was killed. he is the son of a councilmember. he was shot and killed during a robbery attempt in march. friends and former classmates will houston nor him at the concert, which starts at 7:00 tonight. a bay area father was killed in a fiery crash over the weekend. now a touching moment from that tragedy. the victim's daughter came face-to-tase with the choir that survived the crash. the aoleafs tried to lift aona's spirits. the choir irsang for bishop. her father died when the suv hit the back of the choir bus on ho

co2 emissions from silicon valley and salinas are blowing towards the ocean and waters in monterey bay are ob sashing the toxins. >> that has led to unfavorable conditions for sea creatures who call the monterey bay home. the study found the emissions are blowing from the valleys to the bay to the hacker pass. building a better bay area involves having contentious issues like the housing crisis. city leaders and residents, from palo alto and menlo park met last night to discuss senate bill 50. it seeks as to put more high rise housing near jobs and public transportation preempting local zoning laws. sb 50 would allow 50 feet and a height of 45 feet within a quarter mile radius of san trans. the bill would exempt developments from density limits. >> the last thing we want to do is build 3.5 million homes that

all right, we'll start off with neighborhood temperatures in the south bay. everybody else in the mid-50s until you get to los gatos field at 50. it's uniform, that's what the cloud cover does for us. the closer to places like the golden gate bridge, more likely you will run into drizzle, mainly this morning. there afternoon look for sunshine and comfortable conditions. here's a look at north bay. the clouds hang around until 1:00. we reach 68 by 3:00. how about the east bay along the shore. we'll have cloud justness with sunshine thrown in in for san

update. >> i want to update you on a story, jobina was there early there morning in san jose in the almondine neighborhood. we got an update minutes ago. so i want to share that this is at tucson drive and via monte drive. spd telling us five a ossaulted men. the men were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. there were reports of gunfire, san jose has not located any victims. you can see eight to nine place cars on the scene. the teenagers have not been captured. so an investigation is still ongoing. we will be following this developing story to you. back to you. happening today, google's developer's conference in mountain view. >> they will meet for the kickoff later this morning, abc reporter jobina fortson has more

on what we can expect. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, guys. so tech writers describe google's annual conference as something like a big party, where google will layout its plans for the future and you know google is turning 21 this year. the party could be a plast, right? the idea is that the coders in the room will help google build that future vision. let's start with the rumored gadgets that could appear today. reports suggest a new smart display, a ten inch skroo when a net cam and stereo that would compete with netflix and google photos. pixel photos for half the price. tracking locations through phones or violating the eu's privacy laws, they report that google will need to make a commitment to respecting user's privacy and data during the conference. they believe we can expect to hear that from executives a lot this morning.

upgrades and they just expecte to last for months. abc news will cover it eve day. we will send out push alerts. you can read up by going to abc7news.com. public transportation is a major issue when it comes to building a better bay area. san francisco muni's light rail system continues to struggle with reliability. a new report shows that trains were on time, just 46% of the time in march compared to a year ago. they were running late or very late 40% of the time. by the way, muni defines late as four or more minutes behind schedule. very late is considered arriving late 10% of the time. they have taken half of the fleet out of service. happening today in the east bay, the mayor will present her proposed budget to city council. it allocates spending over the next two years. the biggest chunk will go

towards road repairs. $110 million. 74 million towards children and schools. the oakland city council will vote on the proposed bug before the new fiscal year begins on july 1st. i know mother's day is coming up, i am just the messenger here. california is said to be 2019's 12th worst states for working moms. that's according to a brand-new wallet hub study. the company says it looked at 16 key pretty tricks. median salary, day care quality, even the average length of a woman's work day. get this, california came in 50th in median women's style adjusted for cost of living. 49th for day care quality. 44th in child care costs. the one thing that helped us pull up was the pay gap. we came in 15th there. so that's not horrible. but california really not doing so hot in this new study. so i'm going to put the link on

so cal, showers this morning. 85 in palmetto springs and thunderstorms across the high country today and again for seat and sunday. a 40% chance on mother's >> if you are waking up and joining us, i want to show you a building that collapsed in new york city. the two-story building collapsed. the driver was behind the we'll of a rental car and tried to run away from the scene but was eventually captured. they think speed was a factor in this. police are investigating. they sa i the car slammed deep into the ground floor. >> that undermined the supports, causing the entire building to come crashing down. the new york fire department had about 100 people respond to the scene. they were searching for victims in the rubble. there are five people that live on the second story.
